We go to Silo a few times during the summer for their great food and the location by the river. Last nite we visited the place again to enjoy the favorite place after the pandemic. They did an excellent job in following the pandemic guideline with social distancing, masks, gloves, table set up, constant cleaning of tables, food ordering and serving. This place was featured on Man vs. Food. As you can tell from the pictures of Silo half of the appeal to coming to eat here is the view. Set right above the Niagara River Silo sits on stilts and gives you breathtaking views. Right next door is an ice cream parlor serving Perry's, and there are picnic tables all around, as well as swing benches that my kids had a blast sitting on. So ambiance alone gives Silo an extra 2 stars, yes it's that scenic. Did i mention that this place was featured on Man vs. Food? Now onto the food. It is greasy, meaty, cheesy, salty, and good! I got the Footlong Haystack with bacon. (ribeye thinly sliced topped with cheese and chips) It is kinda intimidating because it's so huge, once you lay eyes on this beast you know you are going to need a to go bag. But then i saw my friends Monster Dog, not even exaggerating, i gasped when i saw how huge it was. it sits on the same bun as the footlong Haystack except it keeps going for another 4 inches on both ends. smothered in cheese and chili i was so jealous i asked my friend to split half and half with me. It was so good i ended up eating everything. But just to warn you i did wake up a little more swollen than usual the next day. If you just finished your day doing the tourist thing at Niagara Falls on a long hot summer day, come eat here, they'll replenish the salt you lost and fill you up with some good food. Then grab some ice cream and swing on a bench and enjoy the night. Workmates & I visited the Silo for lunch on a typically BEAUTIFUL Buffalo summer day. The breezes off the river were phenomenal and the the view was equally amazing. A+++ for location. We all ordered separately but in a row (each paying for our own order). I was pretty annoyed that my order was called after everyone else had finished their meals... I have no idea what took so long and when I finally got up and asked, I was given an answer of "yeah, it's coming." That aside, we all really enjoyed our various sandwiches (we had all the bases covered - bacon burger, vegan burger, burger-burger, pulled pork, and mushroom chicken) and the fries. The sweet potato fries were... eh. Underseasoned and unevenly cooked (some were orange, some were black). Not worth the extra expense. We stopped off at the nearby ice cream stand after lunch and loved the gigantic list of available options (not only were there like, 30 ice cream flavors, but froyo, no sugar added, and fat free options too!). They appeared to be related but I'm not quite sure if they were. Either way - save room! I'll definitely be stopping by before my next trip on the jetboat, or to arkpark, or during whatever other reason I have to drive up to Lewiston! read more

Echoing most others, the Haystack sandwich and the view are the stellar parts of The Silo. The haystack is basically a sexy cheesesteak sandwich with shaved beef, mayo, mozzarella cheese, and topped with fried shoe-string potatoes. Here is my tip: if you are with another person who wants a haystack, get the large one and just cut it in half. Not only is it cheaper, but the sandwiches are GIGANTIC. The view is amazing on a warm summer day. The wait can take forever, especially if it is busy. Last time we visited, the line was out the door, we couldn't find parking for a while, and it took about 25-30 minutes for our 1 haystack and sweet potato fries. Generous portions, even on the kid meals. Their beef on weck passed the test for our Buffalo native and the fish fry looked great at our neighbors table. Came on the last day of the season. Service at the counter was quick and the view of the water was amazing 5*. The food was enjoyable, but could have been better. I had the Dixie dog and fries, the hot dog was alright but the bun was cold like it came straight out of a cooler. The fries were salted well and very crispy; there was enough for 2 people so I didn't finish them. I think a smaller sized fry with the meal would be okay by me. Cute little place! We went on a busy Friday but the weather was perfect for sitting outdoors. You order your food at a window and then sit down to eat when it's ready. The food is pretty good but not the greatest of all time. You go to this place more for the experience rather than the food. I was amazed how much I enjoyed what seemed like a tourist spot. The haystack was great and so was the grilled chicken with swiss and mushrooms. The haystack was crunchy and as another reviewer mentioned, not as awesome as a Philly Cheese Steak, BUT, pretty good in it's own class. The chicken was huge and a really juicy piece of chicken breast - not some meat and meat product combination. In seeing the Haystack on Man Vs Food I knew this was to become a stop on this little adventure I call life.... or well... satisfying my hunger needs. My first bite I felt like "Holy sh1tbags this thing is good!" I am going to eat three of them. Then about half way through I realized. I am not a big fat slob, I can't possibly eat this whole thing. but gosh darn it I tried. It was as if the delicious peppery steak didn't want me to finish it, like my body was rejecting it no matter how much I wanted to cram that thing down my throat. Regardless, I gave up and saved almost half of it for later that evening. I ordered a double burger with fries and was surprised to find that it was a generously sized burger (you would hope so for the price). The burger had good flavor but nothing too special. Been here multiple times and it's a good place to grab some food by the water. We went in to order and the ordering area is right next to where the cooking is happening. It's usually a bit Smokey but tolerable. This time it was really bad. The smoke was so bad in there my eyes started watering and I felt like I was starting to have trouble breathing from inhaling the smoke. I felt sad for the workers that were enduring it all day in that heat. They need to fix their exhaust system before someone gets sick. On to the food...husband got the haystack and I ordered the grilled chicken sandwich and fries. The haystack has always been a favorite by both of us but isn't as exciting anymore. He ordered the footlong and it was smothered with cheese, not in a good way. Cheese lovers would appreciate it I'm sure, but it was overkill. The grilled chicken was good but some parts were so chewy I couldn't eat them. The prices are not cheap in my opinion for this type of food. Overall, the food is ok. I've been here only twice and I love it! You have to try the haystack. It's their "thing" and they were on Man vs Food for it. I got it in the kids meal because it was a good deal. So this place is more for atmosphere than anything. The food is pretty good but not amazing. The nice scenic view of the river is worth a million dollars. My husband always gets the enormous size haystack...and eats it all. It's beyond me how he does that. Usually the toppings are nice and crispy and the rest is similar to a Philly steak without peppers or onions. Enjoyable. I tend to rotate my order. Salmon burgers, burgers, even salads. All were pretty good and a great portion size. Same goes for sides. They do have beer and wine and, of course, tons of outdoor seating. They also have a great caboose with ice cream and custard. Some days when they make their custard they put extra egg in and I want to die with how good it is. The ONE time I had custard here with (my guess) extra egg, it was THE best custard of my entire life. Even better than the other famous custard place is Lewiston. So here's what we do all summer. The food was good, not excellent. We also had an order of onion rings and cheese fries in our group. The onion rings were good but not hot... Same with fries. I love the silo. Everyone I go, I always want to try something new. But when I get there, I can't help but just get the hay stack. It's so delicious and filling, you can't help but love it. This place seems like it's almost always busy during the summer as it is right on the water and you have a beautiful view of the river and of Canada while eating. Great, comfort food! I haven't been here in nearly a decade, but forgot how good it was. We ordered the footlong haystack with a side of fries and onion rings. Still so good. Just watch out for the grease, because that sandwich was dripping! Fries were great. Soft with the right amount of crunch and not over-seasoned. Not a big fan of onion rings, but I even enjoyed those here too. Nice and crispy, and the onion doesn't slide out of the ring when you take your first bite. They're right on the water, so I'd recommend going at sunset during the summer. Niagara Falls sets off fireworks around 10:00 PM, so you can hang around and watch those after you eat too. read more
