Ok. I remember when this place 1st opened. I attended a Juice 101 "class". I've recommended this place to coworkers. I've gone to more than one location (Mountain Ave) as well as Claremont. I've ordered juices, food, and even juice cleanses. I love the atmosphere and just the great service. I hadn't been to The Spot in a while until this morning. I think I was the 1st customer. I don't know if they gave me left over old juice, made my juice in a dirty blender, or put piss in my drinks, but both of my drinks were HORRIBLE! I bought the Green Phantom and that red Beet drink. I gave them to my husband and he too said they tasted spoiled and "not right". $18.40 down the drain...I'll never go back. read more

If I could give this place zero stars, I would. First off, the young lady working on Wednesday July 26th at around 11:30 am was one of the rudest people I have ever encountered in any restaurant, no smiles, no greeting, no thank you. I tipped $5 on my $30 takeout because I usually try to do that. I ordered two egg, meat and cheese burritos with bacon and a ham breakfast bagel. After reviewing my receipt, I noticed there was a $2 up charge for the bacon. After our food was ready, I asked the same employee why there was an extra charge for meat on a meat burrito. She looked irritated and said she didn't know, "it just rings up that way" or something to that effect. I asked again why they charge for meat when the menu specifically says meat is included for the $10. She said to me, "I can give you a gift card if that will make you feel better." I was flabbergasted at her rude response. I said I wasn't interested in a gift card as I would not be returning. She told me I could talk to the manager via email if I wanted. I just walked out in disgust. On to the food. The pesto on the bagel was inedible, had to throw it away. The two burritos had zero flavor. I really don't know how it is possible to screw up a breakfast burrito, but they did. If there was bacon in there, I couldn't taste it. This is very sad to me, because I have come here numerous times over the years for smoothies which were delicious. The spot is a neat little place tucked in the foothills in the city of Claremont, place specializes in health conscious sandwiches, wraps, bowls, salads, flatbreads, & acai bowls. Prices here are average for what the food is.. but if they raised it even $1 more then i wouldnt come back.. Occasionally there would be Deals for this place on Groupon so keep an eye out for those.. great savings! Nope nope nope! Disappointing, how did I pay $10 bucks for a juice that tasted watered down? Where's the kale, the cucumber, the apple, the lemon, the celery? It's like the dude that made my juice made a weak pressed juice and then added a lot of water to it. Fail! I've been a customer at The Spot for the last year and I've never had a problem until now. [We ordered a Brazilian Bowl] Unsure if the person was new or not or why a new person wasn't asking questions or being helped but this person had no idea what they were doing and I was observant the entire time. They blended the pitaya but it remained extremely solid and didn't even shake the blender/move it around. This made the pitaya liquify. And to make it worse, it wasn't even blended through. Top was un-blended, bottom was watery. The laying was a mess to the point where everything would fall off. I had to ask for more granola because I could probably count how many there were initially. Really good juice bar around the area. I love their açaí bowl, but it depends who makes it. I usually like to do postmate. Usually their açaí bowl I get is thick and lots of fruit topping ( even I use postmate with some wait time). But sometimes the açaí bowl I get is watery with barely fruit topping. I hope they can keep the consistency of their foods by giving enough training to their staffs. I love this place, I fast regularly and whenever my fast is over I like to break it with an Açaí bowl. I've brought many of my friends here and have been coming for 5 years. I usually like to order online because I drive awhile so by the time I get there I like to just pick it up and quickly get out of there without having to wait around all the people being that it is near a grocery store and gets fairly busy. The website was down and it says something kinda sketchy about possibly being able to steal your information .. I like to use the online service bc you get the discount but this message totally sketched me out. I get to the place and ask about the website and I get told "I'm not the website guy." He could have easily asked the manager who was in today.. but chose not too, asked if the online discount was available being that the website was done and had a completely sketchy message and I got no service. Located at The Claremont Old School House Plaza, around the corner from Trader Joe's and right next door to Boca Burger with a few tables outside and some small tables and bar stools inside. The Spot (also located in Long Beach and Upland) is a juice place that makes smoothies, juices, coffee, tea, sandwiches and salads. I have been to The Spot a handful of times while waiting for the show to start at Candlelight Pavilion (also in this plaza). Some of the drinks I have tried here include: (Please note that there is a $0.50 charge for credit card transactions under $5) Liquid Lozenge, $6.95 (prior to tax) for large size- This juice is made with orange, grapefruit, lemon and ginger. My husband thought this would be a good drink but I honestly thought this was pretty disgusting. The ginger was too strong and the drink itself was sour/ bitter for the most part. I would not recommend anyone to order this. Passion Peach, $5.95 (prior to tax) for large size- When I tried this, I came with a friend. She is allergic to orange sherbet. The employee who heard her suggested that he could make this drink without it and so we ordered it just so. I asked the employee if he could split the drink between to cups so that we can share. He did at no additional cost. This drink tasted great and would not have noticed any difference if there was orange sherbet in this or not. Strawberry Fields, $5.95 (prior to tax) for large size- This drink is pretty good with the strawberry flavor. This is probably my favorite drink that I have had here (and have ordered it twice). Kiley Kauai, $$5.95 (prior to tax) for large size- There is a strong presence of pineapple in this drink. My husband really enjoyed this drink because of it. Definitely a drink I would think of Hawaii when drinking this. Yelp check in offer: free cookie (with pick of chocolate chip, white chocolate or sugar cookie). I have tried the chocolate cookie here and thought it was standard but good (who doesn't like cookies? Especially the ones with chocolate?). Although most of the time I have been to The Spot during non busy times, I did happen to come by on a hot (weather was above 100*F) Monday afternoon around 3:30 pm and it was packed. Most of the customers in line were high school students. So wait time for my smoothie was longer than usual. For the menu board, I am glad that the ingredients are clearly written under each item in case someone may want to avoid a certain item in case of an allergen, like my friend. I appreciated that an employee taking my order chimed in when my friend said she was allergic to orange sherbet and offered to make a drink without. Although my experience with The Spot has been positive for the most part, I do have to complain about the single, unisex restroom. Every time I have come by this place, it has been just absolutely dirty! Toilet paper and paper towels on the floor, dim lighting, odors and water all over the floor and mirror. Also the toilet itself could use a little cleaning as well. Maintenance for this place needs some additional attention. I also wished there was more seating in this place because it is rather small. Most customers that come here seem to stay for an extended amount of time, poaching off the free WiFi and studying, working on their laptops, etc (typical scene inside a coffee shop). Lastly, sometimes the music inside is playing too loud that it makes it hard to hear your name being called when your drink is ready. Overall, this place is great to pick up a drink or maybe even a meal if you are in the area. But skip the restroom (try using it at Trader Joe's if you must) and don't forget to redeem your Yelp check in deal for a free cookie while you are at it. read more

I'm so-so about the overall food here. I came here with my co-workers on our lunch break and ordered a Chicken and Zoodles (~$10). The chicken and marinara didn't hold much flavor to it and zoodles (noodles made from zucchini) were as expected. I was mainly just disappointed that the chicken marinara tasted kind of plain when it was the main flavor factor of the dish. However I have heard good things about the açaí and other smoothie bowls here from friends that have come here in the past. I took the juice tasting class last Sunday night. It was fun and informative! Mitch, the proprietor of the shop, conducts the class. He is very personable and makes honest and helpful recommendations about juicing equipment, ingredients, and preparation. We were given a glass of water to use as a chaser or palette cleanser and fresh kale chips to munch on. Then we watched as the first drink--the Green Phantom--was prepared using three different juicers. Some of the juicers made the drink thicker or with "more pulp" I think that's the correct term. And then we tasted the drink from each of the different juicers. I actually liked the one with more pulp the best. I was thinking I could use it as a dip with tortilla chips . . . but then I might be canceling all the healthiness, or maybe breaking even! Then the staff jumped in and prepared the other drinks to fast forward the prep a bit. We tasted just about everything on the juice board menu--Green Phantom, Kale Cucumber, Crispy V, Liquid Lozenge, Orange Ginger, Kale Cleanse, Sweet V, Beets Me, and Grasshopper. The great thing about this place--Everything is 100% natural, pure produce, no artificial additives, and made right when you order, on the spot (hence the name of the shop?). Something to keep in mind when stopping in because it takes some time to prepare these drinks--that's why a lot of us aren't doing it at home. And the cleaning of these juicers? According to Mitch, it's a pain in the you know where! I'll take his word for it! Mitch also talked to us about taking baby steps with the ingredients. You can start with a higher fruit to veggie ratio, and as you become less shocked by the veggies, you can increase them and decrease the fruit until you reach the point where you have graduated to big boy/big girl juice. Did I mention we also did shots? Yes! One wheatgrass, one kale, and one beet. The beet was the most palatable. The other two made me grimace and burned as much as really bad tequila. But don't rule them out! When mixed in with other fruits and veggies (or maybe expensive tequila) they actually taste very pleasant. Honest! Take the Kale Cleanse for example, the unsuspecting drinker wouldn't even know it contains Kale. Lots and lots of health benefits from these juices. If you feel a cold/flu coming on, get here stat and try the Liquid Lozenge. You can have it hot or cold. My preference was hot. The ginger will clear your sinuses and burn the gang of bacteria out of your throat. Beet juices do wonders too! And add natural color to your lips. Just don't spill it anywhere or it will look like a crime scene. A nice sweet ending to our tasting was a sample of an Acai bowl. And it had Kale, and gasp, IT WAS GOOD! At the end of the class, we were invited to try the juice cleanse program at a discount. It's one day of no food, just juice--you pick 5 juices of your choice, call the night before, and come in the next morning to pick them up. It also comes with a huge bottle of lemon water to sip in between. I went for it, and am in the midst of it today. I'm on juice #3 and half way through the lemon water--and it's serious lemon water, like lemonade without the sugar. So far, not too bad. There was a point earlier when I wanted to hurl a book at my coworker, but I felt better after I drank Beets Me. And as I'm finding out, you will probably also want to use diapers unless you work at home or have your own executive restroom in your office! P.S. Don't eat too much before the class. I had a light sushi dinner before I went, and I got so full from all the drinking, I could barely make it through the last couple of juices. I think all the kale expanded! read more

This is the second time that I have been to The Spot this week. Being new to the area since I just got a job out in Claremont, I started yelping up popular places around here. I came across The Spot and since I'm on this new "fitness journey", I knew this is one of the places I wanted to try since they offered a lot of healthy items on their menu. THE DETAILS: Located in the same plaza as Trader Joe's, Boca Burger, and Buca di Beppos. It's a fairly small place but they have a couple of sofas, chairs/tables, and bar stool seating. The decor is simple and they have the menu written on a chalkboard hung on the wall. The employees are super nice! I forgot to say I wanted almond milk in my smoothie and asked how much extra I needed to pay and the girl said it was fine; I was very impressed with the service. The menu is rather big; they have smoothies, juices, acai bowls, sandwiches, paninis, salads, bowls, and more! THE DRINK: My first drink here I ordered The Hulk (spinach, whey protein, peanut butter, bananas, granola, yogurt, and milk) for a good preworkout drink. I love anything with peanut butter and banana so the drink was delicious! It was the perfect preworkout smoothie because of the protein. The second drink I got here was the Green Phantom. It was light, refreshing, and you could barely even taste the greens! THE FOOD: I stopped by here for lunch and I ordered the Chick-a-bowl off of the "Healthy Bowls" menu. Think of a Chipotle burrito bowl... that's exactly what it tasted like. It contained brown rice, black beans, guacamole, shredded chicken, and pico de gallo. The portion was pretty big and I could only finish half of the bowl. It was yummers and I haven't enjoyed a good old lunch like that in a while. THE END? Just like a lot of others, I've been coming here for years. Food and drinks were always great but lately the food has taken a turn for the worse. Extremely disappointed. I ordered a burrito and pizza today and the food has a chemical taste--just like the way the place smells. The breakfast burrito has grey eggs, mushy potatoes, and I can't tell if the cheese or the tortilla is stale. The pizza was not good enough that I would want to order it again. The smoothies used to be better and have become more watery and less of a smoothie texture. Please fix these problems, go back to your old food supplier, or go back to your old recipes because we liked what The Spot used to taste like.
