Waited an hour and 20 minutes for our food without a heads up that it would take a while. By the time we got our food, half of it was cold. Nah this place is trash. Deadass guys just eat at the Denny's down the road. The seafood here is cold and the burgers were lukewarm & not tasty at all, and then ALL the fries were undercooked and the "fried onion rings" were soggy? Please just eat anywhere else. We've loved this place for the better part of five years visiting Galveston. Over that time, the experience has gone down and down. On this last visit after a six and a half our drive, we stopped in for a rum punch. Halfway into my second drink, someone in my party pointed out a medium sized roach floating in my drink. I don't know how this is even possible with six plus years spent in the food industry. The manager and server were nice enough to comp the ticket, but I don't think I'd ever return due to the image ingrained in my brain. read more

Another one of those places I've been driving by since I moved here. Today, the crowd is down because its Tuesday and off season and 3:30 in the afternoon. NOTE: this place can get very crowded! There are even signs along the waiting area saying, "45 minutes from here," etc. There is a ramp, which we were glad to see, so my husband and I made our way up the ramp, not sure where to go. There are SO MANY AREAS to eat! Outside, inside, upstairs, downstairs... We ended up in a very nice air conditioned area with a window view of the water. The process is: order at the counter, find a seat, and they bring it to you. I ordered BBQ Chicken wings and Cole slaw. Bill ordered a burger and onion rings. We also got the chocolate peanut butter milkshakes. The milkshakes were AWESOME! OMG. Real ice cream! They also have cones. I will definitely be back for ice cream. I enjoyed my BBQ wings. The Cole slaw was refreshing - not heavy mayonnaise - it's a honey citrus dressing. The onion rings were crispy, not greasy. And the burger was HUGE! Too big for us! As someone who lived in Galveston for a good quarter century, I've been to The Spot several times. Thing is, I've never given it any Yelp TLC until now. I usually get my go-to order, the oh-so tender, moutwatering ribeye steak sandwich, but this is an ode to the eatery's fried shrimp platter. I'm not a seafood fan per se, but I do love The Spot's fried shrimp. When you get the platter, you receive a dozen nicely fried, scrumptious crustaceans complemented by a solid serving of waffle fries and cole slaw. One bite of the shrimp does not reveal any saltiness or greasy overkill. Dip it into the cocktail sauce and you'll wish they had more than 12. I certainly have found another item to eat when I come here, which is once in a blue moon. I went to high school with the owner, Dennis Byrd, who I remember as a cool, laid-back dude.
