5 of us had a dinner reservation (3 adults & 2 children). We arrived on time and were seated in a great corner location. I read on Yelp that the Sushi was great and ordered the sushi special, after the waitress promised it was enough for a meal. The others had Steak Tips, a Burger, Chicken Sandwich, and Fish Tacos. The Fish tacos came out and looked great but there was more fish than room for the taco so they completely just fell apart. Followed by a comment from my sister-in-law saying they had little to no flavor. My "special roll" came out and it literally was one roll with 6 pieces. Not enough for a meal at all. It tasted great - light and airy with fresh fish but other than that, not life changing. The 2nd roll I ordered (the spicy tuna) was outstanding, it had a great umami taste because of the sesame and the crunchy tobiko. So in short if you are coming here for Sushi your in for a treat. If your coming here to eat other pub grub you won't be wowed. It's okay but now wowing. read more

I have to say this place has BOMB potential. The spot (literally) is unreal in the small town with nothing around. The bar and kitchen are set up impeccable, really good mix of food, but the service was really disappointing. The bartender was okay personality wise, but incredibly slow and seemed to struggle getting to people before their drinks were empty. We were ready to order, ready to get another drink, or ready to cash out for many minutes before we could get her attention to call her over and ask for assistance. I saw a couple come in and sit down for Atleast 15 minutes before even being greeted while two different staff members were behind the bar as well. And may I add it was nowhere near busy. You could see the agitation in everyone sitting at the bar. I am not one to ever really give a bad review, being in the industry, but I wish I could just save it almost. We waited for some time to try The Spot. Our thinking was, let them work the kinks out before going. We went @5:00 p.m. on a Saturday. When we arrived we were immediately seated. We did notice that most tables could not take advantage of the fireplace which we believed would add some ambiance to the place as it seems a bit stark to us. Our Waitress greeted us with a hearty "WELL, HI YOU TWO!!" a bit over the top for us but she was attentive and nice. While deciding what we would order we took note that this is a pricey place, as we had heard. My wife ordered the Haddock with mashed potatoes and sauteed broccoli [$22]. I ordered the Spot BBQ which said it came with steak tips, pulled pork, BBQ chicken, sweet potato casserole. The waitress looked at me and said "Oh, that item has changed". I asked what the change was and was told the steak tips and sweet potato casserole were replaced with baked bean & something else. [$21]. Would have been nice if there was a note in the menu OR maybe even the online menu changed but it wasn't. So, I ordered the same dish as my wife. When the food arrived [in reasonable time] there was a large MOUND of mashed potatoes which dwarfed the piece of Haddock and 3 or 4 tiny broccoli florets [Why do restaurants cheap out on veggies?] My wife tasted the broccoli and immediately said she could not eat it because it had a burned flavor. Mine did too. The florets even appeared burned. We asked the waitress. She went to the kitchen and came back with the explanation that the broccoli was roasted. The menu indicated they were to be sauteed not roasted. There was no invitation from the kitchen to replace the burned broccoli. The burned flavor overwhelmed the taste of the meal. As more people arrived it naturally became louder and the 'background' music was turned louder. Not a good thing. We did not have appetizers or drinks [we drink water with lemon] or desserts or after dinner coffee/drinks. I can only imagine how much it would have cost if we did. Our bill was $44 and change + tax + tip. We didn't feel the the server should lose a tip because the cook messed up. We'll go back 1 more time. Maybe it was a bad day. read more

It's a nice place to go out. However, I enjoy a selection of beer, and their selection of beer is just too limited. Yes they have 12-16 taps running, but who wants an IPA? If that's all you want when the thirst for beer is present then the SPOT is for you. Love this spot. I ate dinner at this restaurant summer 2016 and finally getting around to writing a review. My wife and I went for a dinner date and had a blast. Our food runner, Rachel, was great great great. She made us feel so at home. My wife and I are from Ohio, and so was Rachel. We bonded with Rachel over our mutual love of buckeyes. Such a friendly, sweet girl. I can't remember what I had for dinner, but over a year later and I still remember the key lime pie. It sucked. I don't think this particular key lime pie is on the menu anymore so do not worry. Love the spot!! Five stars! read more

The yelp reviews were right on. Service quality is killing this place. I've been a fan of Serenitee group restaurants and have had their rewards card for years. This is one of their restaurants we will never return to. It was a bad sign when they were "out of the" Mac and Cheese apps at 4:30pm on a Saturday. It's a worse sign that they were out of fish and chips- on a Saturday night- at 4:45pm. Food we did get was mediocre at best. The nail in the coffin was our server. Inattentive when we the place is 1/4 full? I'm usually super patient and forgiving of waitstaff bc it's a tough job. But here I was forced to get out of my seat to locate her more than once and she took off from our table when we were mid-sentence. I guess she was more interested in socializing with her co-workers than earning a tip or a return customer. read more

I had to come and give it a chance since it's the new restaurant in town. I was very disappointed in my whole experience. My girlfriend and I sat down at the bar and we weren't greeted for at least a good 10 minutes, I've worked in the restaurant business since I was 16, and it should never take that long to greet someone. We decided after asking who we thought was the bartender but was really a bar back for drinks that we would split an appetizer. We chose the nachos...I payed $10 for chips cheese and onions? Really?! Probably the worst nachos I have seen come out of a kitchen. But the worst part was that we waited 15 minutes for the nachos. Really, how hard is it to melt cheese on chips and get them served in a timely manner, it's not rocket science. We ordered our meals. My friend got fish n chips...or shall I say batter and fries. There was barely any meat in the fish, it was like fried dough with a sprinkle of fish on it. You could tell the onion rings that came with this dish were frozen and not made in house. I ordered a burger. No seasoning on it, don't understand how you don't season the meat. Fries were well over cooked. Decided that after two bites I was done. We decided to get dessert, the peanut butter mousse in the mason jar. That was the best thing about our experience. It then came down to getting our bill. $74 for two people?! I was going to THE SPOT tonight with a friend and thought I'd check out Yelp before I went... I was very doubtful that I should go, based upon the reviews here. We were seated almost immediately. Our waitress came over right away and took our drink orders. She kept coming by to check on us, as we were chatting and hadn't looked at the menu. We decided, we ordered and the meal was delivered on a timely basis! It was excellent - Fish Tacos for the mains, the Max Maki for an app, as well as the tapenade app special. YUM - the food was great, the service was great and I will happily be headed back! Also - the comments that it was expensive were off the mark. My wife and I love the Serenitee Group restaurants but were underwhelmed by The Spot. The food was good, not great, the atmosphere fun pub but not awesome. Nothing stood out. They cooked the meat as I asked, but the marinade was a strange sweet and spicy, the mussels were good, but not as good as at 15 Walnut. The mushroom mac and cheese was good, Beer selection was ok. Unfortunately my first impression was not great because I ordered the $9 sangria and you couldn't even tell there was red wine in it. The waitress took it to the bartender who must have poured in a capful because I still had to order a glass of red wine to put in it, so cost me $17 to get a decent glass of sangria! If you get a glass of sangria back saying there isn't enough red wine in it then you better pour a decent amount! So don't bother with the sangria stick to the wine. The sushi roll was pretty good. I've been to The Spot now twice before posting my review. The GOOD: I haven't been disappointed yet by the food, excellent each time I've been. So far it has been sushi, pulled pork sandwich, baked chicken and fish tacos. It's also really nice to finally having a place nearby to go for drinks and a good meal that's not dark and overly divey. The place is well lit and well appointed inside THE BAD: The wait for the food on both my visits has been horrible. Both visits we ate at the bar and were on "slower" nights. The first time last Monday and than this past Sunday night. On Monday we only had a little over an hour to eat and head out for a evening school conference and we placed our order right away with our drink orders to be sure we left plenty of time. Unfortunately both the appetizer and entree took forever to come out almost as if the order had been lost. We had to inquire twice and when it finally arrived we ended up having to quickly scarf it down and take home what we didn't have time to finish. On our second visit (sitting again at the bar) both the appetizer (edami and soup) and entree's (sushi and chicken) seemed to get forgotten about. There's no other way to explain how long it took for the apps to come out (it can't be that difficult to bring out edami and soup) and then there was a never ending wait for the entree's. Finally when I noticed that a couple across the bar who came in at least 15 mins after us was served their food I asked the bartender if there was a problem with our order. She simply told us that it was on it's way. No apology or even an explanation simply a wait and I'll bring it out type of answer. It was another 10 mins after that when I finally saw the Sushi chef working on my order (this was now at least 40 mins after placing our order). When my Sushi was brought out we still had to wait a few minutes longer for my girlfriends chicken to arrive! Finally after delivering the chicken being the bartender asked if we needed anything else, not even close to an apology or explanation of any type for the extensive wait. At the very least it would have been good business to offer our next drinks on the house. The bartender was nice the entire time in a stand-offish sense. Definitely not the warm people person you would hope to encounter when paying an establishment over $90 for an app, two entrees and 3 glasses of wine and beer. As for that $91 bill. The Spot is definitely over priced. The food is expensive for what the place is. The first time we went we shared an appetizer and entree and each had two drinks (wine and beer) and bill was just over $60 for a quick drop by and the second time was $91. Which is the greatest shame because aside from the slow delivery of food I really like the place but the prices make it more of a once in a while place to visit. SUGGESTION FOR IMPROVEMENT: Improve upon the current order delivery system in place and lower the prices a bit. If that was in place I would have given the place 5 stars. Hopefully other (more reasonably priced) establishments will move into the area taking a cue from The Spot and improving upon where they need to improve. Until then I'll swing by the Spot once in a while but continue to drive up to Newburyport where I can find reasonably priced excellent options. read more

Went to lunch the other day with my guy. Having been in the business, the wait to be acknowledged and for our drinks was a little longer than I would have liked. We ordered Sushi, which was delicious, but it did sit at the bar for about 10 minutes before it was served to us. When we ordered our apps we ordered a chowder and sandwich and after about a half hour of finishing our app we asked if our order would be ready soon. The bartender, after checking with the kitchen, said it would be about another 4 min. We felt we waited long enough and let her know we'd like the check. Instead of just apologizing, she told us she didn't know "we were in a rush" and "had she known".... That is not what you say!! Had we been in a hurry, we would have let her know... but the waiting wasn't as half as bad as her half ass answer. We will not be back. read more

Probably the worst experience I have ever had at a restaurant. My girlfriend and I were starving and figured we would try this place out. It was a thursday around four and the restaurant wasnt even busy. By the time we got our food FORTY minutes later it was cold. Im assuming while we watched our server talk to other servers and not enter the kitched for some time. Our food was freezing. We asked her to please heat it up because we were in a rush, she rudly huffed and puffed while walking away. When we got it back it was now way too cooked to even eat. The server NEVER asked why we had only a bite out of our meals. Our bill was over 70.00. I am so disgusted with this place and will not reutrn. As a restaurant owner myself service is the most important thing in any restaurant, get some new attentive servers who care about your business succeeding and I may return. read more

The Spot is off to a good start. There are still some quirks to work out, e.g. they weren't bussing tables until someone was waiting to be seated and the bench seating along the left-side of the restaurant puts you much higher than the tables, but overall a great place. Our server had clearly done this before as she did everything right. The tap list was a very pleasant surprise: Pretty Things, Gulden Draak, Weihanstephaner, etc. We had the blackened chicken sandwich, which was perfectly prepared and delicious, and the fish tacos, which were quite tasty and prepared with fresh fish. The only slight downside to the fish tacos is they were a bit drippy when you picked them up. If it matters to you, the place was very family friendly during the Friday dinner rush. The wine list was had at least one offering for each major wine type, but wasn't nearly as robust and creative as the tap list. Overall a welcome addition to the area. read more

this place is awful. my friend and I went for lunch today and to begin, we were the only 2 people in the place for lunch. it was 12:15pm. it took forever for us to get our food. I ordered the fish tacos and it was cold and had 2 tiny pieces of fish about the size of a quarter. the French fries were cold and I know they used cheap, small potatoes because they were small. For $16 I expected a better lunch. my friend had chicken quesidillas and she said they were bland with no taste. This was my first time here and my last. For the price you pay for your meal it should have been a hundred times better and for no one being in the place the food should have been piping hot. DONT WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY. 3 strikes and now The Spot is out, I went for lunch with my husband and the food was mediocre, then one night we stopped for drinks it was crowded so we tried catch the eye of a bar tender we were there for 10 minutes no bartender looked at us so we left, went there with a friend a of weeks ago, my friend was trying to order another drink amd the bar tender was in front of us at the bar making drinks and would not even look at us, my friend had an empty drink for at least 30 minutes! I've been to Maggie's Farm, and its a slightly scaled down version of the menu. I had a the Mussels / Frittes and some Tuna Sashimi, both were very good. My husband and I stopped in here on a Saturday afternoon while passing through town. We are both former industry folks, and were thoroughly impressed with our experience! We sat in the bar and the service was awesome. Both our server and the bartender were very friendly and accommodating, even changing the channel on one of the big screens for us, twice, with a smile. The honey habanero wings were amazing, far superior to regular wing sauce and highly recommended. The pork tacos were also quite delicious, and they have a good selection of local beers on tap. Great spot to hang out, get a beer, and watch the game. Best music selection of all time as well. We will definitely be back to try the meatloaf and can't wait to have those wings again! read more

Last night was my first visit to The Spot. Unfortunately, I won't be running back anytime soon. While our waitress was pleasant enough, the food and drink service was slow. My friend even had to wait for for her wine, while they searched for a clean wine glass. Weird. All of our dinners were ok, but nothing to rave about and a little too pricey in my opinion. There was way too much cream cheese in the sushi. In fact, I've had better prepared sushi from Market Basket. In addition, I was disappointed that the establishment did not allow us to use 2 separate Groupons, even though we had requested 2 separate checks among 4 people. I don't understand the logic for this, as they could have treated the transaction as 2 separate parties. I used mine, but now my friend is stuck with the one she had planned on using last nite. The Spot is my favorite lunchtime hangout place. The lunchtime bartender, Tammy, is very friendly and attentive and always willing to engage in conversation. No matter how crowded it gets (and it does get very crowded at times!) the service is always fast and the food is great. The spot has a very warm and friendly atmosphere that makes you feel right at home. The bar area is setup as a square, which is great for sparking up an occasional conversation with others around you. The Spot Burger is one of my favorites, as is the Thai Calamari. The sushi (which I also frequently get) is really good and always fresh. Plan ahead on the weekends for dinner as it does get very crowded - clearly the place to be! read more

What happened to this place? The last few times I've been there it's been a combination of bad service and even worse food. Was there on Sunday night for dinner. Sat at the bar. Ordered a drink off the menu, was told it's no longer served, so I ended up with a replacement that was good, but not great. For an entree I ordered the sesame crusted salmon which should have featured "Asian Wok Vegetables." What came out was a decent piece of fish, but what I can only describe as bag salad that was lightly tossed in a fry pan. Zero flavor. I mentioned it to the bartender and to her credit she asked if there was anything she could do about it, I just asked her to let the kitchen know that the side they were making was totally flavorless. My wife got the roasted corn salad, but what arrived was a standard greens salad with anything but roasted corn on it - looked practically raw. The kicker is that for those two entrees, a bowl of steamed edamame to start, and three drinks the total came to over $80. Definitely not worth the price of admission. Two stars just because the bartender in this case did make an effort, but the food isn't worthy of even one star. read more
