Returned to The Stand in Encino this last week. It was AMAZING. The problems we encountered before when we were unhappy with the wine had vanished. The service was excellent, and the food perfect in every detail. My turkey burger was hot, delicious, and served with whole leaf lettuce just the way I like it. The weather gods were with us, and we were able to sit outside under the trees and enjoy the birdsong, our food and drinks, and felt like we had been well-cared for. We've been to a few different The Stand locations in SoCal. It's got a great atmosphere and really nicely designed interior. There are options for vegetarians and gluten free folks and you can even get beer on tap for a full on adult experience. We hadn't been in a while because they eliminated their Impossible burger option for vegetarians and generally have found that veggie burgers that are attempting to impersonate meat do a better job at providing a burger experience than almost any house-made patty. We came by the Northridge location as a large group of folks we knew were gathering there to give the "Stand Custom Patty" - unfortunately we're sticking with our original assessment. It just isn't as good as a Beyond, Impossible or true "faux meat" patty. That's just our opinion. Some people might love it, but their house-made patty doesn't really simulate a burger experience as good as the others do. (Three of us got it and had the same opinion.) From our perspective, if want to have an American burger and fries experience, we want it to be as close as possible to the real thing. This veggie patty with black bean forward flavor (also rice, quinoa and various spices) provides a different experience, which on it's own terms is probably fine, but isn't really the burger experience my vegetarian family is looking for. The staff was friendly. We were there on a crowded Friday night. No one came to wipe a table we sat at after asking a staff member if that could happen. The side sauces we asked for weren't the ones that were brought so we had to ask again. Free unlimited containers of pickles is a pretty good feature...but with so many options for, what we consider, a real (albeit vegetarian) experience at so many restaurants everywhere, unless The Stand brings back something like the Impossible Burger they used to have, we likely won't be back. read more

I've been to this location many times! Today I placed my order through the app, drove up and walked in and up to the to go station (around the corner when you walk in) Be sure to grab the complimentary pickles they're delicious, they're chips are too! The girls working was so sweet and helpful, she had my order ready within a minute of me walking in the door. I ordered the chimmichurri steak salad with avocado. The steak was tender and cooked perfectly, I loved how well everything went in the salad. I've sat inside, the booths are comfortable, they have high seats for kids. Great for families! The Stand is a well known eatery brand, that has built a solid reputation for its food specialities. The inside and outside dining areas are basic and spacious. The menu covers the bases of burgers, hot dogs, salads, wraps, sandwiches and the like. We came here for carry out. A Veggie Bliss Burger, a Stand burger, a Stand hot dog and Fire fries. The burgers (you have 8 to choose from) have a larger allowed selection of free condiments. Loaded toppings are extra. Unfortunately, this diversity is not equally true for the hot dog selections. For one, there are only two basic choices. Second, you are allowed a limit of 4 toppings only. While the burgers at the Stand are okay (and nothing special), I tend to gravitate towards the hot dog, which is prepared very well here. My 4 topping choices were sweet relish, sliced red onions, deli mustard and sweet chili aioli. The concoction, supported by a soft and chewy bun, really hit the spot. I love a little crispy bun with solid meat and veggies : ) -Kale Quinoa Crunch Salad this time around: it was really good! This use to be my favorite burger place. Lately the meat is never "medium". It's always well done even when you say medium. Second it's always cold. The soda machine use to have caffeine free Diet Coke but it no longer does and you also can't get just plain soda water. The ranch is still really good. A the service is also good. Before I start, one proviso....I haven't been to this location in about 5 years, so it may not be the same as when I was going there pre-pandemic...on with the review! I worked at CSU, Northridge for decades and this was one of my go-to spots. They have both indoor and outdoor dining. You queue in a line that runs past the menu board and order at the register. They give you a tall wire cardholder with your order number on it, you take that and put it on your table, so they know who gets what. I tried most items on their menu, and had several favorites. In no particular order, they are the Onion Stack burger, the French Onion burger and the Short Rib Grilled Cheese sandwich. While I love hot dogs, I never failed to order one of my favorite sandwiches and didn't get around to trying any of their hot dogs. The Onion Stack is just that, a burger with a stack of thin, crispy onion strings stacked on a burger, with lettuce, cheese, barbecue sauce and bacon-tomato spread on a brioche bun. If you love onions, the French Onion Soup burger is for you. It has crispy onion strings, some onions marinated in red wine and comes with onion soup au jus to dip the burger in. It also has Gruyere cheese and a Parmesan crusted bun, YUMMY! The Short Rib Grilled Cheese sandwich was the one I ordered the most often. It features braised beef, the ever-present crispy onion strings, bacon-tomato spread, lots of cheddar, barbecue sauce and Parmesan crusted sourdough bread. Not for the dieters among us, but outrageously tasty. I tried the fries once, their Fire fries. Not impressed, kind of dry and thin, but for less cash, their Stand potato chips were great. As you may have noticed, I like onions. Their onion rings are great, among the very best I've had, a must try! They are battered and deep fried. Not a panko or breaded crust, much sturdier and very tasty. An order may only have four or five rings, but they are huge and delicious. This location has three or four giant TVs on one wall. They all showed different sporting events. They also have booths farther away, if you aren't into whatever sport they are displaying. The outside has a short fence around the tables, with the great SoCal weather, it is very inviting almost year-round. The drinks are self-dispensed with a machine that offers every soda available, Coke, Coke Zero, Cherry Coke Zero, Diet Coke, Fanta, Sprite, etc. You can custom mix any drink by adding cherry, lime, orange and other flavorings and even other sodas. Very cool. They also have a great and wide variety of beers on tap. Some big brands, but lots of smaller labels, too. The ambiance is mostly industrial and somewhat noisy. Go there for the food, it is well worth visiting. Highly Recommended. read more
