We visited based on the Yelp reviews. Not certain if we hit it on a bad day but our visit today was less than stellar. I struggled between a 2-star and 3-star rating. Our service was just not good. The main menu items ordered were served in a staggered manner requiring most of our party to wait on the final order before eating. The steak frites ordered by two in our party were just horrible. The meat was tough and had a gross flavor. No pride was taken by the cook with this dish. The shrimp added to a salad ordered by another in our party offered a pungent fish odor before even being placed on the table. My order was a fried catfish sandwich that was supposed to come with potato wedges. I was informed on delivery of the sandwich that the wedges were still cooking. Exactly how does that work for a patron? I suggested they keep the wedges and they did. The sandwich itself was ok. The highlight main menu item ordered was the sloppy joe sandwich. The best items ordered were the chicken tender appetizer and the Thai Chili wing appetizer. Nothing special but good for bar food. We thought it was kind of neat that they allowed folks to bring their dogs with them. However, that went south quickly when one couple arrives with two dogs that started a barking exchange with their canine neighbor at the next table. Love this place for their $5 Burgers on Monday nights! They're a good size and flavorful and they come WITH wedge fries! I also like their cubans which are flavorful with tons of meat. We also usually upgrade the fries for mac & cheese for a small charge (I think $2). It comes in a skillet, tastes great, and is huge for a side! Avoid the pork belly banh mi which has so much fat it's difficult to eat. The 3 stars are for the service. The waiters mean well but the way the restaurant is set up, its free seating and no single waiter is assigned to a table. This means that it can be extremely difficult to get a table and then to flag down a waiter to take your order or bring your bill. It's obvious this place is not the owners priority. The allure is the outdoor bar. However, the owners have neglected to create an opening for the staff to go in or out of their wooden cage. This is a neighborhood bar but, we feel guilty every time we go. We have to witness the numerous times the servers have to kill their backs and heads to duck under the bar. Everytime I ask for something as simple as ketchup I feel embarrassed and sad. We love coming here on Mondays and it used to be our favorite place but it's just not enjoyable anymore. What does a customer look like? That's the question I posed to the kitchen manager at The Station after extremely poor service and a horrible experience based on the staffs' apparent assumptions about me, or simply profiling. As a visitor to I Raleigh, I searched Yelp for nearby restaurants and discovered The Station. I ordered two catch fish sandwiches. When I arrived at The Station to pick it up, one staff member gruffly said that he would be with me in a minute. 30 minutes later, after being ignored by the staff (at the nearly empty restaurant) and told by the kitchen manager that they thought I was from Grubhub, I asked the question, "What does a customer look like?" I was met by a blank stare. This despite the fact that I clearly identified myself as a customer to a staff member when I first arrived. Then, the kitchen manager gave me a package with a hamburger in it (not the two catfish sandwiches that I had already paid for via Grubhu). This place has been the date night place for my husband and I for a long time. It has a wonderful patio that also has an outdoor bar! Terrific for large groups of people that would love to bring their pups along. The service here is great as well, and all the staff is kind and attentive to their guests. The food is also a bang for your buck- especially if you go during their $5 Burger Monday! It normally doesn't cost exactly $5 if you're planning on getting additional toppings on your burger though (cheese, bacon, etc). The bar carries a large amount of NC beers, which is a plus since I love supporting local businesses and trying new brews. Their cocktails are on point as well! We love their Moscow Mules, and they also have a jalapeño cocktail which is great choice to spice up your evening. The only issue I have with this place is the parking situation. Most of the parking available is on the side streets, and a decent amount of time I see tickets on cars in the area. If you're planning on coming here, it may be better off to Uber & save yourself the hassle of parking. We had an excellent weekday lunch here! We started with the dip sampler and subbed hummus for the pimento dip. Basil and garlic hummus was thick and smooth and absolutely delicious! I don't usually eat hummus but it ended up being my favorite dip! Spinach and artichoke dip was excellent as well. The hot black bean dip had great flavor and spice but it was a bit thin and watery. The dips were served with chewy hot pita that's good enough to eat by itself. For entrees we had: Beer Grilled cheese which was perfectly crispy on the outside and filled with melty deliciousness, and the Beet & Goat Cheese Salad which was fresh and crisp. We also had margaritas and they were absolutely perfect! This place has a very relaxed vibe, an outdoor bar, and an enormous outdoor dining area and large tables to accommodate big groups as well. We used to love this place, so I'm not sure what happened. Out of the last four meals, only one was pretty good...the sloppy joe. Burger isn't as good as they used to be, but it's a steal on Mondays. Chicken tenders were dry and the breading flaked off. The absolute worst thing used to be my favorite, the pork belly banh mi was just awful. The bread crumbled apart after two bites and the pork belly might as well have been bacon jerky. One thing remains solid. The potato wedges with the chipotle dipping sauce is delicious every time. I really like this place! You wouldn't think it's much from walking past it or driving by, but it's a hidden little gem. Diverse menu and great to hit up anytime of the day. Service is usually pretty good with the random really awesome people and the occasional duds. Both indoor and outdoor seating options and the outdoor seating is great in the cool fall evenings! The menu has a little something for everyone. Two personal faves: sloppy joe and chicken salad wrap. Definitely a spot to hit up for their brunch as well! Great little place that's on the outskirts of the beaten path if you're wanting a change of pace. My biggest complaint is finding parking which is everywhere downtown. We were, however, a little disappointed that all three of our favorite menu items had been eliminated!! The potato wedges (why???), the salmon BLT, and the hummus plate were all one. The outdoor seating is fabulous! That bartender/waiter was excellent. He was friendly and attentive. Unfortunately, they got rid of the potato wedges which was the best thing on the menu. The pop music was too loud for lunch and the same songs play over and over. They have a small garden with herbs planted which hopefully they don't use. There was a guy with a dog and instead of walking the dog to the sidewalk, he let him/her pee in the garden right by a table with two people eating. I actually asked the waitress if that was acceptable and she said he was a "regular". Gross. The garden is within the dining area and it's shocking that someone would have the audacity to let their dog pee there. Is the regular too lazy to walk another 8 feet so the dog can do it's business away from people eating their food? The place has so much potential. I would suggest bringing back the potato wedges, asking entitled dog owners to walk their dogs outside the dining area and playing something other than Taylor Swift every now and again. read more

The location was great with a really cool outdoor area, nice ambiance, good for kids. The food was so so, nothing special. Service was pretty bad. Asked the girl for a drink Rec and she couldn't even name a drink, she had to grab a menu. Someone dropped off our appetizers and walked away, we still didn't haven't any silverware so I finally got up and found some myself. Ordered chicken strips for the kids and they had the breading was spicy. Nothing service-wise was a dealbreaker that would stop me from returning but nothing on the menu worth trying. read more

My experience at The Station was great. The service was good and the food was even better. The Bean Burger was delicious and a great fit for my palette (pescatarian) It was a great environment for me and my friends to catch up during summer break and I would honestly go again. We arrived around 5pm and it was seat yourselves. My family of 5 sat at the table and was greeted about 5 minutes after being seated and we ordered water for everyone. We sat for 20 minutes and never received our water. I stopped who I assumed was the manager and told her we ordered water and never received it. She apologized and said she would send someone over. By this time another table had been seated and received their drinks. Thirty minutes went by and we NEVER received our drinks so we left! This is not the first time that this happened. The wrap was huge so it made for a good dinner for a second night. On a nice day, The Station is a nice place to soak up some sunshine with your snacks and beverages. I have dined both inside and outside at the The Station and I enjoy both places. Both inside and outside have dedicate bar areas. However, nothing beats sitting outside on a perfect day there with a few cold ones. Pair that up with their great meat/cheese plate and you have a recipe for afternoon grazing that is enjoyable (I snapped a pic of one of these plates). Their Bloody Marys appear to be a small meal within themselves. Their burger game is pretty strong, and I do enjoy their sloppy joe with pimento cheese although a bit spicy than I prefer. For beverages they have a good selection both on draft and bottles. From all of this great stuff, I would put The Station in definite four star status. However...there is the factor of the service that's been encountered on visits. I cannot say it's been stellar on experience. One visit, our server acted like it was such a bother to be his tables and was put out that we even made any order requests at all. Recently, our server did adequate, up to a point, and then...disappeared. Completely. We even had to flag someone else down to get our check (much less if we had wanted another beer etc.). Haven't been here since-well, you know, everything closed and the menu has completely changes and non of the old favorites of what made this place good exists. The grilled cheese with onions was so messy and fantastic. I tries the Thai papaya salad with coconut shrimp and it was so bad. First of all, it wasn't; a traditional papaya salad with shredded green papaya, it was slices of hard yellow papaya with like one million store bought green beans and a few slices of Daikon radish. The 4 shrimp were good. My friend had a chicken sandwich and he told me it was OK but the slaw was bad. It's sad that owners don't fully understand how things work. read more

This place has a lot of things going for it. 1) the food is delicious. Great ingredients and a wide variety. 2) the portions are huge. They don't skimp on the servings. 3) the prices are ridiculously cheap. The side dishes are a few bucks and huge and the entrees are $7-$10. 4) the atmosphere is chill. Sitting outside or inside, it's laid back, airy and friendly. 5) the staff is chill. No uniforms, no problems. They keep you happy and full. 6) brunch on Sunday is amazing. Although temps are in the mid-30s I ALMOST wish we would have chosen to sit outside. The firepits seem to be really warm, and they certainly are more inviting than being inside. I was so distracted, because it is so LOUD in there. Really loud. And when you move a chair, or scoot in, it makes this obnoxious noise. It hurt my eardrums. And the acoustics are just so bad. Sometimes when places have deals the expectations are low but this was an awesome patty style juice burger that will definitely bring me back here to try other stuff on the menu. Wow!!! What an awesome lunch. I ordered the grilled cheese. It was so packed with gooey cheese that it was served in a skillet to keep all that goodness contined! The waitstaff was extremely helpful and kind. Our drinks were refilled quickly and they were prompt to bring boxes at the end of the meal. I like the station. They have food food, lots of different options and a huge patio to sit outside. I like the fireplace area to sit by. The service is pretty hit or miss. Last time I went we ordered the mussels as an appetizer and about half of them were still closed so we couldn't eat them. I told the server and he said he would credit us some money but he didn't so that was annoying. Overall a great place if you want outside seating but if you want a nicer establishment with good service probably not your place. I had to opportunity to dine here last night and enjoy the beautiful Raleigh weather. The restaurant is good, not great and that's why I decided to give it a 3 star rating. The chipotle tenders and wedges were very good but I will say I wish their menu had a little more diversity in its options. My husband and I tried this place because of the outdoor seating and suggested live music. It was a beautiful Friday evening weather wise so we gave it a try. The food was horrible. We had the wings, fries, garden salad and a shrimp sandwich. We really came for the catfish which they were out of. All the food was served Luke warm to cold. We told the waitress but she did nothing about it and said she would let them know. Not sure who them were she was referring to. The patio seating was good but the music was not to our liking. They had someone playing a guitar and did not play all genres of music. All in all this is not somewhere I would go back again and certainly not recommend.
