I had some crazy high expectations... best bbq in the galaxy? Im still on that hunt. But stellar hog is still damn good. They chop that brisket thick! I mean thick! The depth of flavor was astonishing. I mean the rub is superb, and a few flaky ends tasted like beef jerky in the best way possible. Because of the thickness you get a multitude of textures, intensities. Every bite is roller coaster ride. Some send you straight out the milky way--incredible! The sides were good, but both missed the mark on elite for me. I would love to experiment with some others! Oh, and their house bbq sauce is splendid. Like that is legit stuff. Smoky, tangy, a hint of heat serves a reminder it's at the party, but not the reason you came. As far as bbq in stl goes, this is rightfully pitted as some of the most illustrious!

The restaurant is quaint and in a house. There is a lot of outside seating under a covered patio which was a perfect option for the beautiful evening. We arrived at 7pm on a Sunday and they were out of the ribs, turkey, etc. I ended up ordering the brisket which was very dry and thus the reason for 4 stars. I recommend going earlier if you want the ribs on a Sunday or a better meat selection on any other day. The beans were made to perfection as was the Brussels sprouts. Go earlier for better selection!

BBQ out isn't usually my go to so I put off trying the stellar hog, and now I will live with that regret. Best BBQ I've had in a while in STL hands down. When you first walk in it gives dive bar vibes but opens up to a dining room & has a good size patio that wraps around the side & back. You order up at the bar & they give you a number, We got the brisket plate, half rack of ribs, and fried corn ribs. We had mac & cheese and potato salad for our side with the plate, we wanted pit beans but they were out, will just have to go back soon to try again. All the tables had two BBQ options Spicy Lou & Sweet Stella. I preferred the sweet but both were delicious. The meat was cooked perfectly. Will be back with friends!

We loved this local pub/restaurant! First of all, cute corner neighborhood joint and we could smell the food smoking when we walked up. Was a lovely weather day so ordered and sat outside in the patio area. If you love beets, be sure to ask for a taste, they have a great smoky flavor and the pickled version "oh heavens!" The turkey and pulled pork were tender as can be, the smoked salami was different and also tasty. Side dishes are fantastic, especially the potato salad. Star of the show though was the peanut butter pie!! A must if you are in the St. Louis area.

First time visiting. Street parking nearby. Water is self serve under the partially covered patio. When ordering, you do so at the bar and seating is seat yourself. They were out of brisket, unfortunately. I ordered the smoked turkey, mac n cheese and beans and pulled pork, potato salad and mac n cheese for our second order. Smoked turkey and pork were both very delicious as was the mac n cheese and beans. Potato salad was ok. Very quick ordering and getting our food. Highly recommend visiting if in town or resident who loves bar b q. Compliments to all at The Stellar Hog!!

This place is a bar. It sits on a corner in a neighborhood. They offer an outside area to sit and eat. They allow pets too. Inside of the bar is ok. It was clean and laid back. The employees seemed young but respectful. The presentation of my food was not the best. It looked basic just on a metal plate. I ordered Ribs, Brisket, Mac n cheese and Collard greens. Ribs- fall off the bone. A good smoke ring. Brisket- Not dry and easy to chew. Mac n cheese- The flavor was bland. It has potential to be better. Collard Greens- Spicy for no reason. Using Salami as the meat did not enhance the flavor...more of a hindrance. They didn't offer bread, pickles or onions to enhance the meal. The target of The Stellar Hog was missed. Im still hopeful.

We swung by The Stellar Pig while passing through town and were seriously impressed. I had the smoked turkey sandwich with added Gouda and a side of creamy cabbage--both were excellent. My husband ordered the White Wall (brisket with horseradish, Gouda, and a delicious extras) and also got the creamy cabbage. We loved everything we tried. We also shared the corn ribs, which were a fun and very tasty add‑on. The vibe is dive‑bar‑meets‑Irish‑pub, but much hipper and more welcoming than you'd expect. There's plenty of seating inside, even though it doesn't look that way when you first walk in. You order at the bar, grab a number, and pick any table. There's family‑friendly seating in the back too, so kids are totally fine here. Staff were super friendly and helpful too. Great food, great atmosphere--definitely worth a stop.

Found this on Yelp - one of the few places open on a Tuesday until 8pm. Completely worth it. The creamy cabbage was AWESOME, Potato Salad was great. Brisket was good, maybe a tad dry. The St. Louis ribs had a sauce reminiscent of cherry vanilla cola. Fantastic ambience - good prices. Completely worth the trip. Neighborhood style location - which was super cool.

Beef Brisket Sandwich with creamy cabbage and Mac and cheese

Had to check out the STL BBQ while in town and Stellar Hog came highly recommended in my search. It's a classic bar-restaurant, which I'm all about. Ordering is done at the bar and then it's brought out to your table. I love a good brisket so I chose the sandwich along with the creamy cabbage (also highly recommended) and added another side of the Mac and cheese. Mac and cheese was straightforward, very creamy and cheesy. The cabbage was well worth the recommendation; you'll hardly know you're eating a vegetable. Finally, I was very satisfied with the brisket. It had a good bark to it, and once you got towards the middle of the strips, they just melted in your mouth. Typically I don't gravitate towards sweet barbecue sauce but Stellar Hog's is not super sweet and complemented the brisket very well. The price point for the portion sizes felt reasonable to me and I did not leave hungry. I can see why this place comes so well recommended and I'd be happy to come back.

Finally got to The Stellar Hog! This spot is loved by so many people I know so I had to check it out. The inside space is small right when you walk in by the bar, but there are tons of seats as you go into the back rooms and patio. We ordered at the bar (I'm pretty sure this is the norm) and there was quite a line. Be prepared to wait a bit because it's a popular place. I ordered The White Wall sandwich which is brisket, onion, Gouda, and horseradish. I really enjoyed it! The cheese was nice and melty on the brisket and added to the flavor. I also ordered the Mac and cheese which was super cheesy and tasty. We sat on the pip and they have a window for drinks which is good for refills and more beers, cocktails, etc. I'm going to try the ribs next time!

Pork steak special and side of beef brisket

The Stellar Hog remains in my upper echelon of BBQ restaurants in the St. Louis area after many visits over the years since it opened. This last visit I had the pork steak plate special that came with mashed potatoes and Brussels sprouts and so delicious. I can't go there and not have the brisket so I got a 1/4 pound of the fatty beef brisket on the side for an extra $8 and still tastes like the Texas beef brisket I'd get when I lived up in Dallas and that's to say the best! Everyone there is always friendly, ambience is not the greatest but a dive that's this good doesn't have to be all that fancy inside.

I googled best bbq in the area and this came up. So we headed out to try it. Place is in a neighborhood and you could smell smoke, so that's a good start. Inside is what I wanted. Dive ish bar with good food. Ordered basically a sample of every meat. Brisket was good Turkey was juicy Pulled pork was good Ribs were very good Salami was very interesting in herbal. Mac n cheese didn't hold up Great place and worth the stop.

I really wanted to like this place, but it just didn't live up to the hype. The macaroni and cheese tasted more like cafeteria-style mac than homemade BBQ sides. My first plate of brisket came out with mostly fatty pieces, and when the replacement came out, it was better, but the food was barely warm and seemed to cool off quickly. The sauces didn't do much to elevate the food either. I tried a few hoping they'd add some flavor, but none of them really stood out or made the meal any better. Between the bland sides, inconsistent brisket, cold food, and forgettable sauces, the overall experience just fell flat. I've eaten here before and honestly don't remember it being such a huge letdown. That's what made this visit so disappointing. Maybe I caught them on an off day, but this experience was far from what I remembered and left me with little desire to return anytime soon. The staff were professional, but unfortunately the food just didn't deliver.

LOL It would probably help if you were wearing running clothes. If you showed up in business casual attire, they might think you were trying to pull a fast one. If you wanted to, you could even take a lap around the block. You know, build up an appetite, not to mention thirst. It's a fine park and seemingly a lovely area, despite being in the city. It has an old-timey charm that my native West County (obvs) is sorely lacking. Who would have ever thought, a beer garden in a public park? Some parks, they don't even want you to stand around and drink beer. Or so I've been told. Is the price keeping this place from being overrun with the local "unhoused" population? BYOB is strictly prohibited, per signs posted near the seating area, though there didn't seem to be any cops nearby. I checked, natch. If you have the means, there's not much you could bring that's on a par with what's on offer. Let it be known: The fare at Rockwell Beer Garden is wholly superior to a Jack's frozen pizza and a 32 oz can of Miller High Life, though the pizza is disturbingly similar-looking to the former. Really, if I had to describe it, I'd say it's an elevated Jack's frozen pizza. It's roughly the same size. It's cut into squares, but it's not St. Louis style. The cheese is not provel. (Boo!) It's mozzarella. It's seemingly of a high quality and generously applied. The crust is similarly thin, but not quite as crisp, except at the edges, which are a bit burned, giving it a classy, artisanal vibe. It's not the best pizza you can get from a local brewery, but it's better than it looks. (They can quote me on that, if they want to.) I asked the young brother working the register if he had a recommendation for beer. He seemed stumped, like he's never drunk a beer before. He may have been there on a mission. I did see a row of bicycles nearby. On a whim, I went with something called Son of Juice, which calls to mind both Son of Bazerk and the guy who actually did the scratches on Nation of Millions (just nod along like you know what I'm talking about). After I ordered, the girl standing next to him recommended it to someone else, so I knew I'd made a good choice. She described it as citrus-y. It had a vibe similar to orange juice but with less tang than you'd expect from something described as citrus-y. Which I appreciated. It's also a bit higher gravity than you'd think for something with a fruity flavor. It would make for a tasty breakfast. And an economical one, once you factor in the discount.

It's not altogether different from the smell of beer as it's coming back up, and it called to mind my illustrious, mostly-forgotten-at-this-point college years. I was suddenly compelled to listen to Cannibal Ox and watch certain videos that I'd pilfered from Kazaa, and it's probably for the best that I didn't have access to a circa 1998 Compaq Presario in that moment. The vibe in Bluewood Brewing is a lot classier. There's no "Iron Galaxy" over the PA. The lights are dimmed, which I imagine would be convenient if there was someone there you owed money to. I was particularly impressed with a long table on the patio. I remarked to a member of my running group that it almost certainly didn't come from IKEA. The wood was of too high a quality. The food menu is limited to a small selection of standard sports-bar fare, but this is not anywhere you'd go to watch the game. They might not have any TVs. Did they spend too much on the table? Also, they don't sell any beer in cans, that I'm aware of, which I generally prefer as someone who, as the evening progresses, is prone to dropping things. I went with something called Crush, which is an orange-flavored high-gravity IPA. It was the highest ABV selection on their regular beer menu, but it also costs a little bit more, so you're not really getting over on them--unless you thought to "pregame." I found it to be both less "stiff" than I was expecting and less orange-tasting, in a good way but also in a bad way, in that anything that fails to conform to expectation is at least somewhat disappointing. I was expecting paint thinner and orange juice. I got something that was balanced and flavorful. From the food menu, I got the daily special, which was a sort of elevated patty melt called the Stable Melt. It came with two all-beef patties, Swiss, caramelized onions and "Frisco" sauce on Union Loafers marbled rye, with your choice of chips or fries. It was $18, and as I was standing there a guy came out and changed the price to $19, presumably due to developments in the war with Iran. I was assured that I'd be "grandfathered in" at $18, but I'm not sure if he told the guy at the register and I didn't bother to check. It wasn't necessarily my kind of thing, but it was a great burger. The name-brand bread alone nearly justified the price increase. The meat was generously proportioned (no Diddy), but it didn't quite extend to the edges of the bread. Perhaps if it were one larger patty? The onions gave it a sophisticated Salisbury steak vibe, wholly superior to Hungry Man. The fries called to mind the fries at Wendy's. If only they offered a Frosty to dip them in. It wouldn't necessarily go with their beer. I'd suggest they put bourbon or something in it, but I shudder to think what they might charge.
