Best bbq ribs outside of Charleston SC. I would drive the 2 and 1\2 hour trip for a takeout order of ribs. Been going here on trips for six years and our waitress Angie is fantastic! We walk in and my standard order of ribs, mac and cheese and the house salad is taken without being asked we only get here twice a year and she remembers our names and orders to a T. This has always been the goto place in town for special occasions (for us) and has always been very consistant and best food in town with great service. We recently had our first disappointing meal with family from out of town after we boasted about this place. Really long wait for food after salad coarse and then not all meals served at the same time, so we had one of those awkward moments at the table staring at our food getting cold while waiting for others to get theirs. Would have given 3 stars but this was our first bad experience here. The food was pretty good , but the portion size is really starting to dwindle. If your going to demand $24 to $ 29 for a seafood dish or steak here in Escanaba, and want locals to come back, don't diss me on the portions. I hope the fact that there is a lack of competition for fine dining in our area doesn't let quality, service , and portions decline at one of our favorite local gems to be a trend. read more

The other excellent reviews are true. The steak was unbelievable. They age the meat and cook it up on a wood fire. It was excellent. Done perfectly. They serve gourmet macaroni and cheese that came with it which was also excellent. It's not cheap but the prices or worth it. Service was very good. Would definitely go there again when traveling through the area. The desert chocolate and peanut butter pie seem like it was homemade and it was excellent also. read more

Excellent food, excellent service. Husband had a steak that was perfect, I had whitefish so delicate in a tasty picatta sauce. My son had a salmon over a pasta with Alfredo sauce. He wanted a little salt. Great house salad and Caesar salad quite nice as well. read more

I stopped by last Wednesday night. It was packed. I will caution you about trying to park in their lot. Several of the spaces are not built for anything but Smart car. It's worth the struggle. I sat in the bar area. It was fine. I had the spinach salad. It was a large side with a nice light dressing and lots of egg. I ordered the mixed grill which was a filet, large shrimp and about four ribs. All great. The waitress suggested the twice baked potato which was very nice, the waitress was so attentive I thought asking her to sit down. My husband and I were on a road trip in Michigan in June and heading for Green Bay, Wisconsin, when we decided to stop for lunch and saw The Stonehouse in Escanaba. What lucky timing! We went there tonight after leaving another place where we had waited over a half hour only to be told it would be another 15-20 minutes yet-just for Taco Salad! We came by here and decided to try it. Are we ever glad we did. We were waited on promptly. After our orders had been taken, our salads appeared within 5 minutes and I must say, my hot spinach salad was awesome! My husband and I ordered the White Fish and Lake Perch dinners . They were served to us within 15 minutes and were delicious! I'll definitely come back here when we are traveling in the future. I reccommend anyone to try it. read more

I am a long time customer of Stonehouse. The atmosphere is great. The food is fantastic. I was quite shocked when I ordered the rib eye. I was expecting a nice big steak. It was no thicker than a pancake. I thought I was at Ponderosa. Don't cute corners Stonehouse. You should have the biggest best steaks around. Check out Iron Mountain steak houses. Wonderful atmosphere. We saw the sign that said "Casual dinning at its finest" and it certainly was. My wife and I each had one of their salads, which were generously portioned and made with fresh ingredients. We also appreciated that in addition to the typical kids menu items of Mac and cheese or grilled cheese, they also offered children's perch or shrimp and included choices of the vegetable of the day or fries. The wait staff the night we were there were a bit slow even getting us menus (which happened to a couple other customers too, I noticed) even though the dinning room wasn't very full yet. The menu prices start around $15 for the entrees, going quite a bit higher for some of the seafood and beef items. Even the kids menu items were around $6 or $7 each. So while it may say "casual dinning at its finest", it seems to me to be rather fine dinning. read more

My husband and I love this restaurant, it is one of our favorite restaurants in Escanaba. Recently we had dinner there. It's a beautiful place, especially during the holidays. I'm very pleased they brought our favorite appetizer back, which is the goat cheese app. We ordered the french onion soup which was nice, nice consistency and flavor with plenty of cheese, we also ordered the creamy red pepper soup which was very nice. Thanks we ordered the bacon wrapped scallops which had a nice flavor, however; they were very small. Then the baked goat cheese came out, it looked very nice and we couldn't wait to try it since at one time they removed it from the menu, however; we still could order it. My husband took the first bite and bit into a hard price of large plastic. Ouch!!! Shocked we told a server which wasn't sure what to do so she took it away and came back with another app of goat cheese. We felt it should have been removed. No manager visited our table, I wonder if it was because they were busy. Later that night I wrote the manager and two days later she got back to me via email. I felt as if I were bothering here by the tone of her words. She goes on to tell me we already got a discount because they were running a special and if I wanted she could mail me the total for the app minus tax and discount. Hmmm the letter was rude and I felt as if she was trying to say we were trying to get a free meal. I feel she should of taking it a little more serious and honestly can't believe one of my favorite restaurants has a manager that is that rude to a loyal customer if over 25 years. I'm sure we will go back one day but not in the near future. When a customer finds a foreign object in the food at the very least you could be a little nicer. read more

Making our way back from Houghton the menu of this place made us choose to drive to Escanaba for the night. When you first walk in the layout and decor of the place has you wondering but then you see the place is packed and that has to be a good sign! Let me tell you, the food is amazing! Had a starter of bacon wrapped scallops, so good! I followed that with the warm spinach salad with bacon that had just the right amount of egg and the best version of the dressing I've ever had. After much deliberation over the large selection of entry items offered I went with the Chicken Grand Traverse...sautéed breast with crimini mushrooms, scallions & dried cherries in a cherry wine cream sauce! If I hadn't been sitting in the middle of a crowded Resturant I would have licked the plate clean! OMG Foodgasim, table for one please! Had the Black Jack Ekberg steak, it was fabulous. My husband had the prime rib and while the flavor was really good there was a large cord in the middle which was disappointing. Atmosphere was nice but a little dim, hard to read the menu. Muddled old fashions are awesome. Servers were very friendly and helpful. Our dinner here yesterday was one of, if not the, best meals we've had in the U. P. The menu is extensive with multiple meat and fish entrees. They offer several side dishes as well as several choices for a salad with your meal. The food was brought promptly even though they were very busy. There was sufficient wait staff to make sure everyone's needs were met. The hot food arrived hot, the cold food cold. Portions were generous without being enormous which we really appreciate. There was a wide selection of desserts to end the meal. I recommend the carrot cake!! And to top it off the coffee was great as well. While it is a bit pricey compared to other similar places, it is well worth evert penny. You owe it to yourself to try it! read more

Every time I eat here, I get the filet mignon and I'm never disappointed. Their menu is mostly steaks and seafood- little to no pasta dishes. Their fish is very good- I would recommend the Great Lakes platter. I eat in the bar area every time I'm there. The whole restuarant is very dated looking. Very supper club. Came for lunch and had the perch special, the Mediterranean salad, and clam chowder (4 of us). Everything was served promptly and was delicious. We were traveling and stumbled upon the stone house restaurant when we arrived there was a 45 minute wait because we didn't have a reservation chose to sit at the bar they told us we could eat at the bar and delicious delicious appetizers the scallops were the most tender ever and bacon wrapped shrimp and then for an entree we shared a walleye that was covered with crab meat that was the evening special was absolutely delicious the place is packed the bartenders were great at making our drinks provided beverages and doing the food service just a nice supper club atmosphere in a small town. Great steakhouse. My pork tenderloin was cooked just right with great garlic mashed potatoes. The sauce on the pork actually had flavor. And my server was excellent. Had dinner there Saturday night. We've eaten there several times over the years, we live about an hour away. We ordered cocktails as we were seated, it was 15 minutes before they arrived at our table (also, no menus yet). As soon as the menus arrived we ordered 2 appetizers. That was another 20 minutes (calamari and baked brie). The waitress delivered them and left without taking our dinner order, so we had to flag her down to get her to come back and take our order. I ordered the special seafood platter. Scallops crusted in pecans, ahi tuna and Cajun blue marlin. Our entrée arrived an hour later, and the marlin was so tough I couldn't chew it. In their defense, the scallops were wonderful. Not worth the hour drive, or the hour wait for the food...not too mention the $100.00 plus bill. read more
