I've never been to downtown Orlando and decided to grab lunch in the area before catching my flight home. Stubborn mule is known for their different mule (the drink) variations. I can't remember which drink my sister ordered but she said it tasted like champagne and was very tasty. However, she did say it didn't pair well with her chicken sandwich. We both ordered the hot honey chicken sandwich. It had bacon and purple cabbage slaw with hot honey. The sandwich had 2 pieces of chicken making the sandwich very thick. It could use a different veggie to balance the sweetness, like a tomato. The sweet potato tots needed to be a little more crisp but the flavor was good. I asked for an extra side of the hot honey and dipped the tots in it. The waitress was very nice and even gave us a little info about the area around the restaurant. She told us how to get to the lake that was a couple of blocks up and offered suggestions for us to visit on my next trip. read more

Service : Courtney was 5/5 she took care of our family. She gave recommendations and answered all of our questions. She was super kind as we had three kids with us and the sun was blazing hot on the patio. Service: 0/5 front hostess. Awful. Not nice. We had a reservation but wanted to sit inside because it was so hot outside. She insisted that's the only thing available and offered to put up umbrellas. Not smile. Not personality. Awful. She came back and said they didn't put the umbrellas up but the sun wasn't out. It was and it was hot. She watched as our 11 year old had a hard time grabbing a chair. Just watched. Stared at him and never offered a hand. She was just not nice. I hope the managers can help her to lead hot to hostess in a way that's more inviting. Ambiance: the inside was decorated so uniquely we really loved the inside. The outside patio was nice but very HOT. Food: food was good. Nothing too crazy to write home about. I expected a little more from two CIA grads but maybe they have other endeavors they are working on? Chicken pasta was great and the steak was ok. The steak presentation kind of left us wanting more. My first time out at the stubborn mule for a bite before another event I was headed to. The stubborn mule has both indoor and outdoor seating. We arrived during happy hour and although I chose to sit inside, I thought it was odd they shoved me and my husband in this two seater against the wall despite so many other tables being open. It's hard to be seen from that area but the server was friendly and kept up with our needs. Whoever was in charge of the playlist was doing an amazing job with the music choices that made a great atmosphere for chillin on a Thursday evening with a few drinks. I had the sun shower, it was on the sweeter side, it wasn't bad, but my current palate has been more bitter lately. Definitely recommend for someone looking for a sweet and fruity drink though. I had the Belgian waffle burger. It was something slightly out of my norm that I would do but the waffle was soooo good mixed with the roasted red pepper jam, maple bacon and cheddar cheese was the perfect pairing of savory and sweet with a great bite full of flavor. My husband got the chipotle cheesesteak and he really enjoyed the flavors and sliced tender ribeye as well as the rosemary Parmesan fries on the side. Overall, great service, tasty bites and chill atmosphere. We'll be back to try brunch in the future because of that waffle! read more

Had a really great Wednesday night meal here at the Stubborn Mule. To start, the place was pretty packed both inside and out on an early Wednesday evening. We happened to be sitting next to the loud drunk table, but I would imagine normally the noise is average. It is not a super large venue either, but there is plenty of inside and outside seating which would make it good for groups. The bar is iconic. It looks like an old library set up complete with sliding ladder. I thought that was really cool. Even more cool was the amount of spirits, wine, craft beer and signature cocktails that they have. For drinks I had a flight of craft beer, a double of their house scotch which was decent and a whiskey drink which is their version of an old fashioned but with lemon. The food was as great as the ambiance. Started with mussel which were in a chorizo broth. The broth was a tad salty, but it came with bread which when dipped in the sauce was quite wonderful. The entrees were git or miss. I had the short rib flat bread which was just okay. Not awful not great. Also had a shrimp and scallops dish over risotto which was heavenly. Really really loved this. It is worth coming back for. Really want to be a regular here. Hopefully I will see you on my next trip to Orlando. read more

We finally went to The Stubborn Mule for the first time for a brunch date and it did not disappoint!! I love a good menu item that combines multiple breakfast foods together and that is exactly what I got! I got the "Who Woke Up First" which is a DG Doughnut topped with bacon, fried chicken, smoked Gouda, a fried egg, bourbon maple syrup, and served with a side of potatoes. We grabbed the first reservation slot for the day on a Saturday and were able to sit right at 11:00 and had a really helpful waitress. It was pretty busy by the time we left brunch so I recommend making a reservation. We will be back again for sure to try out some more menu items! read more

Met some friends here for brunch on a Sunday and it was packed as expected. We ordered just the goat'cha and brunch nachos, which were definitely enough for 2 people to share-- we couldn't even finish it all. The goat'cha is basically eggs Benedict but we didn't like it much... even though the eggs were cooked well as pictured the hollandaise sauce wasn't it :/ it had an off taste to it and also wasn't very hot. The brunch nachos had bacon and bruschetta (just the tomato and onion part) and scrambled eggs, as well as some cheese fondue which is the "nacho cheese". I really enjoyed the house made chips and the bacon and bruschetta went perfectly. The eggs could've been scrambled/seasoned better and the cheese sauce was kind of flavorless, but it's a good dish to share. The potatoes served with brunch sauce were also deliciously crispy! One thing I didn't like is the music was waayyy too loud. I understand the bustling atmosphere for brunch is fun and exciting, but we had to yell across the tiny table to hear each other; that's more of a bar / night out type setting. I have a friend couple aren't the best at exploring or seeking out new things. They have found what they like, and they are sticking to it. One of those places they have found is the Stubborn Mule. I think they come here about once a month, and now I understand why. This place is in downtown Orlando, but not the obnoxious part of downtown Orlando. It's near the peaceful part that is surrounded by Lake Eola and Thornton Park. A beautiful part of town. And they know it, too, because they have about as much outdoor seating than they do indoor seating. It makes for such good views and people watching, my friends say they have never sat inside. I don't think I ever will now, either. The service was off this night. The guy just wasn't very attentive to us, even though the dinner rush was not there yet. But I'm not going to hold anything against him or the Mule. I skipped any apps and went right to food food. I ordered the Belgian Waffle Burger (8oz. Angus Beef, Cheddar Cheese, Roasted Red Pepper Jam, and Maple Pepper Bacon Served Between Two Sugar Pearls Belgian Waffles). The medium rare patty was actually very flavorful; I tasted salt and pepper and a nice char from a grill. With only three other toppings, each one got to shine, the cheddar cheese was nice and cheddary, the jam was that sweet veggie taste that you love from plant jams, and the bacon was added in such a way that actually made it relevant. The Belgian waffles being perfectly textured and not too sweet, wow. I was a big, big fan of this. So the other thing I got to taste is the reason I cemented my decision to give this place five stars. I usually don't like flatbreads. I find them tasting like the crust is store-bought, the toppings way too skimpy, and the topping combinations themselves not unique enough to make me order them. I'd just go to Pizza Hut if I wanted normal combinations. But the Shrimply The Best Flatbread (Shrimp, Basil-Walnut Pesto, Cherry Tomatoes, Shaved Parmesan Cheese, and Red Onions, Topped with a Balsamic Drizzle) was a real winner here. The crust wasn't exactly artisan, but the plentiful toppings atop it more than made up for it. Each of the toppings were very well represented, and I don't think I've ever seen this particular combo, either. Well done, Mule. Overall, I can see why my friends love it here. A+ food in an A+ atmosphere. I'll have to come back soon to try more of their delicious menu. read more

The Stubborn Mule has an awesome location right on Lake Eola and was easy to make a reservation for our large group gathering on night after work. They were perfectly accommodating for our groups needs and allowed us to hang out a bit after we finished eating/drinking with no qualms. We enjoyed a few appetizers for the table, which were easily shared and enough for everyone to have a light bite while chatting amongst each other. I was extra fond of the zucchini fritters, but you can't go wrong with a soft pretzel. To go with those, try out the "Cocktail formerly known as purple rain" definitely a perfect wind-down to a long day. Lastly, the salads were a huge hit, but I was very fond of the smashed salmon with rosemary parmesan fries. Honestly, the fries were the best part of the meal, but anything rosemary Parmesan would be a scene stealer. read more

Happy Magical Dining! My husband and I decided to kick off with a trip to The Stubborn Mule! Neither of of had been before, but it's so close by so we figured why not! This place has a a great laid back vibe to it! It seemed like a great spot for people to come and unwind after a long work week! Once we came in we were promptly seated and had the sweetest sever ever named Seven. He gave us great recommendations for drinks to try - I ended up going with the Spartacus as my mule of choice . For our food we ordered off the magical dining menu and got the edamame, Caesar salad, tortellini, 6oz filet, bread pudding, and salted caramel cheesecake. The food was delicious across the board! My favorite item of the night was definitely the tortellini! The chicken was cooked to perfection yet still light, and the veggies mixed with the cream sauce made for a great combination! I didn't get to try my husband's filet but I guess that's a compliment because it was gone before I had the chance to ask! I would say my only note would be that the appetizer and entrees came out closer together than we would've liked, and we had to ask for silverware but otherwise it was a lovely experience! The food and drinks did not miss, and I will be sure to come back and try out other items in their menu...especially for Mule Monday ($6 mules all day). read more

They have indoor and outdoor seating, we chose to sit outside under an umbrella to enjoy some people watching and the occasional breeze. I would have preferred thinner and more pickles in the sandwich, but overall I thoroughly enjoyed the food and you easily feel full. Portions were good size for the pricing. This fun American style restaurant is located on the corner of eola and pine, in the heart of downtown. If you know downtown, you know the Parking can be a challenge but that doesn't stop us from getting to good food. There are parking garages close by for those frustrated with street parking. The restaurant has indoor and outdoor patio seating. No fans outside but plenty of umbrellas for shade. The tend to be busy to try to make a reservation. We came for brunch at 1 on a Saturday and almost every table was full, in and out. Our server was so sweet. Very attentive, bubbly, prompt. Everything you hope for when you're dining out. I was so excited about the food options, breakfast nachos - what more could you want?! But sadly, the food, with the exception of the chicken fingers and French toast were bland. The presentation and ingredients were spot on but flavors were just not there for us. I really wanted to love it but needed a little more on the flavor side. Came here an hr before closing on a Thurs night and it was pretty chill. As soon as we walked through the door was immediately greeted. This has a nice chill environment. Once we were seated our server Sevin (or Seven) immediately greeted us and gave us great vibes and service. When you visit make sure you ask to be seated in his area. We ordered the Stubborn Mule Burger and the NHC , Hot Nashville Chicken Sandwich Parmesan Fries and regular fries. The burger was amazing, angus patty cooked medium well good flavor, bacon, tomato, mixed greens, pepper jack fondue, cider onion jam mayo, crispy potato nest, brioche bun . The chicken sandwich was hand-breaded chicken breast, Nashville hot sauce, jicama slaw, cider onion jam mayo, and a crystal bun. The sandwich was spicy, and the Nashville sauce wasn't as flavorful as expected. There wasn't a lot of items on the menu I was interested in other than the burgers. I wouldn't get the NHC sandwich again but I definitely would get a burger. read more
