Barely full monkey bowl for a regular shmegular customer

I actulaly like their products but I have a few gripes about the establishment itself. 1. Inconsistency in serving size - this is probably the one that upsets me the most. I came bright and early on Saturday morning with my best friend for a Yelp Elite event in which she was able to get a monkey bowl. I bought a tropical smoothie that day which tasted of real fruit in it with that signature acidic and slightly bitter taste of pineapple at the end. I was happy with that visit. I came again that following Monday and tell me why my monkey bowl during this visit was barely filled up unlike the Yelp Elite visit. Do I get less of an intentional effort and quality of product because I'm a regular shmegular customer instead of a Yelp Elite customer who will likely leave a review on the place? Is that what is required of customers to get a consistent quality product? It really grinds my gears when I go to an establishment and the product is not the same quality and portion size as the previous visit. It especially grinds my gears even more when you think of the context in which one bowl was prepared vs the other. 2. Pricing on menu. The menu is so unclear how they charge you. The menu doesn't clearly state that for add-ons you will be charged and even more so, there's no price. I don't mind paying for add-ons, but could you at least make it clear on the menu?? I paid almost $17 for a monkey bowl that was barely full while all I added was vanilla whey and strawberries. The vanilla whey was almost $2 to add on and that wasn't even made clear in the pricing on the menu. For me, the value of $17 is not worth this teeny bowl. It really sucks cause it does taste really good but it's the little things that aren't really little imo such as PRICING on a MENU where you expect to see the cost of things BEFORE you order, not once the bill is all rung up and you're forced to do the awkward social backpedaling of canceling something in your order cause you weren't expecting it to cost that much. It really sucks but idk if I'd come back just for these two reasons. They get 3 stars instead of 2 because their product is actually good. But a good product doesn't really mean anything if you're not consistent in how you make and serve it and clearly show pricing and additional pricing for non-standard items.

Really enjoyed my first visit to The Sunrise Shack. This place is great and definitely a new favorite local spot for me. I ordered the small açaí bowl, which had a ton of flavor. I particularly enjoyed the granola and shaved coconut because it paired really well with the açaí and bananas by giving it the perfect crunch. The shop is small, but it has a great feel and doesn't feel crowded at all. The staff was friendly, the vibe was relaxed, and it's just a really chill place to stop by. As a local, I'm always happy to find spots like this that are worth coming back to. Definitely adding The Sunrise Shack to my list of go-to places, especially on those hot days when you're looking for something refreshing.

For a refreshing treat to cool off from the heat go to THE SUNRISE SHACK. I had the pleasure of checking out this spot last week and I love that a little of Hawaii is in LBC. I ordered the I LAVA YOU Acai smoothie bowl and it was delicious and just what I needed to escape the heat. My nephew ordered the smoothie drink BLUE DREAM. I loved the freshness of how everything tasted. The service is made to order but was worth the little wait. The staff was very welcoming and attentive to customers. You can read about the story of how the brothers and friend started the business and they have cute merchandise to buy. I do recommend checking them out. They are close to LBCC and LBX. It brought back memories to be in that neighborhood.

Avocado Toast - so nice that the avocado is smashed and spread vs. just sliced so it stays in place with each bite.

The store was clean, warm, and inviting, and the young woman who greeted us and took our order was very polite and professional! We started with a few specialty toasts and sandwiches-avocado toast, smoked salmon toast, and turkey avo aioli. Everything tasted fresh and the bread had a great chew and crust! We then had each of the smoothie bowls except the monkey bowl and they all tasted great! Our favorite was the Paradise Punch Bowl, as the citrus gave it a nice, bright flavor. Would definitely come back again!

I visited the Sunrise Shack in Long Beach on 07/21/26 to have a smoothie bowl. I was greeted with a smile as soon as I entered the door and told to have a good day upon leaving. The customer service was great. The restaurant was clean and the service was quick. I had the "Paradise Punch Bowl" which had a Base of: Pineapple Orange Guava topped with Pineapple, Banana, Orange Slice, Goji Berry, Bee Pollen, Granola & Pitaya Sauce. My smoothie bowl was delicious. You can also indulge in their Coffee Bar, Bullet Coffee, Specialty Toast & Sandwiches. I recommend the Sunrise Shack. There is plenty parking slots available as well as some street parking.

Conclusion first: did I like this place? Yes! Would I come again? Yes! Here's what was off. Smoothies: We tried to order a smoothie with no mango (pineapple instead) and they couldn't because everything was "pre-made". What about people with certain fruit aversions? The smoothie was still good I will say. Coffee drinks: although they have a blender for the smoothies, they don't offer blended coffee drinks - weird. I got an iced caramel latte extra sweet and although it had no frills, it was pretty good. I call it a lazy-latte because they really don't seem to customize them too much. Overall we liked what we got and will try it again. Parking and location are pretty good. There is parking in the back as well. Good addition to the area and the shop inside is super cute.

Friends were hyping this place up because it came from Hawaii but it didnt hit the mark. The place is very cutely decorated and vibrant. However not a lot of seating if it's busy and it was very busy. The service was nice and friendly however. We were told about 15 min wait but it became about a 30 wait, I wasn't in a hurry but when you wait that long and the food doesn't come out great you feel a bit sad. I got the blue dream small, it's the perfect amount for a single person but it is expensive. My main complaint was with the base and it was that the consistency was off. My blue dream was very icey. Whereas my friends parasise punch one was super watery. I also got the salmon toast, it was just okay. Overall I've felt I had better acai places.

Take me back to Hawaii! The infamous Sunrise Shack is on the mainland and I'm all for their Long Beach location bringing the Hawaiian vibes. Came here on opening day and also a few weeks after. The service is very fast and the bowls taste amazingly sweet. They have bowls, smoothies, coffee, sandwiches and toast. I tried their classic Tropical Bowl and Acai bowl. I think I enjoyed their acai bowl a little bit more, the tropical one was too sweet for me. For me personally, I think their pitaya sauce is what separates them from other places. It looks pretty wild because its pinkish purple but tastes great. As for parking, there's parking nearby near all the other businesses. Also street parking as well. Inside there's limited seating too! It's bright inside with colorful walls that will uplift your vibes. Also theres vibey Hawaiian music too!

Sunrise shack is a yummy alternative to Jamba juice. Using all real fruits instead of sorbets which is great! The smoothies and bowls are not too sweet. The I Lava You smoothie has similar ingredients to the Hailey Bieber smoothie at Erewhon but has less of a strawberry flavor. Still good though!

I really enjoy a refreshing Aćai smoothie bowl; it's always such a delightful treat. The vibe inside was giving Hawaii , which was so relaxing. The staff were really friendly, and even though there's no restroom, we had a lovely time eating outside where the breeze made everything feel even more enjoyable. I missed out on The Sunrise Shack during my last visit to Oahu, so I was really excited to try it out as a local! I went around 9:30 AM on a Sunday and it wasn't busy at all. Food/Drinks/Merch: My group & I came mainly for coffee. I was recommended the Hazelnut Latte with the macadamia nut milk by the staff and my sister & brother in law tried their bullet coffees. I thought the latte was just okay & slightly watered down and my sister thought it was too sweet. The bullet coffees weren't strong enough for their liking. They did however really enjoy the Turkey Avo Aioli, which came with chips. They have a great menu & I'm definitely coming back to try the smoothies & açaí! They looked so good. Their merch collection is impressive. They had stickers, baby onesies, mugs, shirts, hats, & hoodies. Location/Safety/Parking: The location is safe (close to LBX) and parking is usually easy on Norse Way, with limited curbside parking right at the front too. Service/Ambiance/Vibe: The staff was really friendly & helpful with my questions. Decent seating inside & some tables outside. Vibe definitely felt like I was back in Hawaii & they played hawaiian music too. Also, the mural is amazing! You can really see all of the details on it.

Just came back around this area and noticed this cute little cafe that specialized also in Açaí! Loved the colors and the music and it very much has their own characters to it. There was a lot of new staff and they were super welcoming and management/owners were very sweet to them therefore I see a lot of great things in the future for this place. Very attentive and also very communicative with their team. I like to taste lattes with little flavoring just to see how strong their coffee is and honestly, not the best but also not the worst. I only asked for one pump of syrup so the flavor doesn't over take. Iced latte is definitely watered down an there is no coffee taste, it's more milky and watery. Latte was 2/5 Next is their local favorite monkey bowl (açaí bowl). I tried it and loved the toppings but their base is not my favorite, their other bowls seem to be more interesting. Toppings 5/5 base is 2.5/5 the .5 was the dates because I love dates. Overall my experience is a 3/5 I will be coming back in the future to see if anything has improved. read more

came here on the second day of their opening after hearing it was a popular spot found only in Hawaii. I had really high expectations based on what I heard about this place. when I came, it was pretty busy. they have a variety of food options on the menu, but they specialize in smoothie bowls and smoothie. I ordered a large monkey bowl, which they said was a local favorite. it took them around 45 minutes to make our bowls which was understandable because it was a lot busier than expected. my bowl was honestly kinda mid despite being popular. the base itself was kinda melted by the time I got it. I thought that they would fill the bowl up like most other acai places, but they dont. the granola they used tastes like nature valley. I also wish they had included more fruits in the bowl. I'll probably try to come back when the hype dies down to see if maybe it was just a fluke from grand opening day. read more

Our family has been waiting for opening day since we saw the first signs going up, kids were excited to have a place that is literally walking distance for us. We love all the neighborhood restaurants and shops on Norse and couldn't wait. We went after tournaments and walked in, there were 3 people behind the counter working and talking to each other. No one greeted, said hello, can I help you, do you have any questions, nothing. We looked at the menu and were there for a couple mins and told the kids let's go. We were out the door and the workers told the kids that they were already closed and to come back tomorrow. Could have said that as soon as we walked in and we would have said no problem, but being from Hawaii just wanted to support a local business. read more

Came in yesterday and was not busy at all. Plenty of staff, friendly but service is not too great. I understand they were training but, it took 10 minutes for them to make our bowl and mind you we were the only customers they at the moment. Anyways, from the whisperings and whoopsies it seems they were making mistakes while making our bowls...bowl was kinda melty like a watery base thought it'd be a true acai bowl not a juice bowl - I would've just got a smoothie if I wanted it that way. Really busy but that did not compromise their service and hospitality!! I asked for some customizations and changes to my smoothie bowl and they took care of it with no issues even though it was busy. The employees were attentive and very kind. The food itself was also delicious!! I got a Blue Dream bowl with half Monkey Base and sub coconut flakes or goji berries. Amazing - the texture of the bases is like sorbet almost. The granola is clearly homemade and is delicious with a little hint of saltiness that balances the bowl so well. They do point and rewards through cashapp, so i signed up and will be returning! read more

It's hard to support local businesses when flexibility and transparency are lacking. I was disappointed to find out that the smoothies here are pre-made and substitutions aren't allowed even for allergies like coconut or banana. With smoothies already being on the pricier side, I expected them to be made fresh or at least customizable. The cashier let us know everything comes from a pre-made mix, so there's no way to adjust ingredients. At places like Jamba and most other smoothie shops, you can actually see them blending fresh fruit and making adjustments as needed. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case here. I really wanted to like and support this spot, but the lack of customization especially for dietary restrictions made it difficult to fully enjoy the experience. read more

Established in 2016.

The Sunrise Shack was born in 2016 on Oahu’s North Shore, founded by three brothers — Alex, Travis, and Koa Smith — and their close friend Koa Rothman. All professional surfers raised in Hawaii, they grew up running a fruit stand on Kauai and dreaming big. After Travis discovered bulletproof coffee in New York, they opened a bright yellow shack across from Sunset Beach, serving bullet coffees, acai bowls, and superfood smoothies to surfers and locals. It took off almost overnight. From that one little stand, we’ve grown to six locations across Oahu. Now, Long Beach is our very first location in California and our first step in franchising to the mainland. We are so grateful for the opportunity to serve this community. Since Zuzu's Petals opened, we've noticed a significant increase in litter, much of it appearing to be food and drink packaging from the restaurant. Weekend traffic on the sidewalks has become overwhelming, customers often park in alleyways or in unsafe locations, and it has made our neighborhood much more difficult to navigate. We brought these concerns to an employee, but were told there wasn't much they could do. If this business truly wants to be part of the community, I hope they take more responsibility for the impact they're having on the surrounding neighborhood. Encouraging customers to park responsibly, helping keep the area clean, and offering more reasonably priced menu options would go a long way toward building goodwill with the people who actually live here. I always want local businesses to succeed, but right now I can't recommend Zuzu's Petals based on both my experience and the ongoing issues it's created for nearby residents. Also beach cleaning isn't cleaning our neighborhood. That's no support to our neighborhood. Maybe have a neighborhood clean up day instead.

They came into the neighborhood and immediately started towing the cars of residents who park in their lot. My car got towed twice ($400 each time) thanks to this business who likes to charge 15 dollars for a small sized smoothie. On no street parking days like Thursdays there is nowhere to park and the customers of shops are also parked on the other side of the street. These businesses cannot tolerate even one day of overnight parking (when their businesses are closed) and call the tow company to tow any car on that lot. The customers in the cafe were looking quite disappointed and had been there without any food or drink for longer than the time I was in line and walked out. Sunrise Shack is one of those rare places that actually carries a little bit of Hawai'i's spirit with it. I'm so grateful the mainland has a spot like this--somewhere that celebrates the flavors and culture without giving people another excuse to overwhelm the islands themselves. I tried Sunrise Shack in Long Beach and it's such a vibe. The whole place has that bright, beachy Hawaiian feel and the food actually matches it. The açaí bowls are super fresh and flavorful, and their coffee is really good too (definitely try the bullet coffee if you're into that). It's a great spot if you want something lighter but still filling. Only downside is it can get a little busy, but overall it's 100% worth checking out. read more

Decided to stop by to grab an açaí bowl at 5:30, instantly greeted by ozzy and Joe. We were undecided on flavors and instantly grabbed us some sample. We decided to get the blue dream bowl wich was amazing!! I have to say their customer service was amazing and need to be recognized for the amazing hospitality. I have been here twice in a week and a half! The first time I had an iced vanilla latte and the pesto chicken sandwhich and it was great ! The pesto chicken sandwhich was probably one of the best pesto sandwich I've had! The second time I've been here I got the tropical smoothie and the avocado toast! Pro tip get it loaded !
