This convivence store/gas station restaurant doesn't look like much but it is the true definition of a hidden gem. I'm not sure if the restaurant goes by "Don Taco" or "Guapo Taco" but signage for Guapo Taco was painted on the inside and outside when I visited. I tried the Mexican Street Elote and Birria Tacos. The elote was some of the best I have ever tried (even when in Mexico). Juicy corn was topped and mixed with creamy mayo and sour cream and paired perfectly with hot sauce. The tacos were also phenomenal! Savory crisped tortillas were filled with tender flavorful beef and gooey cheese and paired flavorful consommé for dipping, crisp onions, limes, and flavorful cilantro. I love me some Birrieria tacos so I got those which were sooo crispy and greasy in a good way. The consome was beefy as expected. Holy sh!$t!!, we have been in Austin for over a year hoping to find some good Birria Tacos, no luck, we found some freaking amazing tacos here in Ft Worth. Please don't let the place turn you away when you pull up. Yes it's a gas station, yes it doesn't look like a place with amazing tacos but come on in! There's a lot of places that advertise having the "best" birria tacos but this place is probably the best in DFW. The meat is absolutely amazing and the way in which they crisp up the outside of the taco is incredible. I would definitely eat there. The 2nd time there, I got the order to go and after having the tacos sit in the car for 10-15 mins, it wasn't as good. (make sure to have LOTS of napkins handy). The dipping sauce is SO good! The burrito itself is pretty substantial, with plenty of meat, as well as beans and veggies. They even grill part of the burrito on the grill. Its piping hot initially, but cools down quickly once you bite into it. The pastor meat had a decent char on the edge, as well as a decent amount of pineapple in the mix. The barbacoa was juicy and a good amount of beef flavor. The red and green sauce were pretty good, esoecially when its made in house and blended fresh. Probably my biggest complaint is how dirty the place looks and feels. I dont expect it to be spotless, but it doesn't help that you will more than likely get diarrhea. read more

My husband said that Angel's birria tacos changed his LIFE; earth shatteringly good! I was like "a taco's a taco and we've had decent birria up to this point" Boy was I wrong. Friends, Guapo Taco's birria tacos are legit: From the perfectly seasoned and flavorful lamb to the epic crunchy savory taco shells and the super fire consommé, this plate of tacos is truly the best birria I have ever had! If you want something lighter or just a midday snack the El Borracho taco is the way to go. Flour tortilla filled with pineapple, pico de gallo, roasted corn and guajillo crema pack a lot of flavor! Guapo Taco is a case example of said establishment. Do not let the exterior fool you, go in and order. Order everything. The two people behind the counter (presumably the owner) were very nice. The food is reasonably priced given all the current goings on for a small business. The birria comes either beef or lamb (for an up charge) and personally was well worth it. I drank the remainder of the consommé if that's any indication of how good it was. The Borracho and Guapo tacos are awesome. Big, plenty of meat and toppings on thin flour tortillas with three different salsas to choose from (they bring all the bottles to the table). When I saw some Instagram posts about a new taco spot serving up delicious Birria tacos, you already know I had to go check it out!! I'm always on the hunt for these delectable, dippable, tacos as they are by far my fave and although I have a spot I think can't be beat, I'm always up to try new places. Located off Sylvania, in the old Mariachi's spot is Guapo Taco! They are inside the gas station on the corner, so make sure you don't miss them! Glad that another taco spot took the vacant place, now our "Eating Tacos at Martin House" Tradition can continue. They revamped the place with a fresh coat of paint, if you will, and the place looks awesome. Love all the cute cactuses. The menu is short and sweet but we knew what we came for! Birria Tacos come either barracho or Barbacoa (lamb or beef), three to an order with consomé as well as onion, lime and cilantro. We got two orders of Barbacoa as well as an Elote Loco and horchata. Just one guy working, and he's super cool. You can tell he really cares and puts a lot of hard work and pride into his food. I've eaten enough places to know that this always makes the food taste better. You can pay Cash, Venmo or Zelle, so come prepared! After a short wait, we had our food and made our way across the street to Martin House to enjoy our food with a beer. Tacos were soooooooo good! Crispy with lots of tender Barbacoa in the center, perfect dipped into the hot consomé. Onion, cilantro and lime came on the side so make sure you add them into your tacos before enjoying. My only criticism, and it may just be my personal preference, is that I felt like the tacos as well as consomé could have used just a litttttttle pinch of salt. Again though, this is most likely my own personal preference since my fiancé and daughter didn't notice a thing. Elote was tasty as well with crushed takis on top, can't beat that crunch! Horchata was also yummy, though we do wish it was in a bigger cup with ice. Can't wait to try the dirty horchata (mixed with coldbrew) which sounds lovely! Overall, it was an awesome experience and we are so excited to begin coming here regularly!
