Terrible customer service. Food was very cold and I knew it was when I felt the bag from my pick up order. I explained to the manager that I'm pregnant and I can't eat raw or undercooked meat and it has to be hot for me to eat it. She responded to me "it's hot I don't know what your talking about what do you mean cold food" very disrespectful and sure enough when I got home I couldn't even crack the crab leg because it was so undercooked and the meat in the inside as raw and cold. The place next door RL has decreased their portion sizes and I feel I am no longer getting my bang for my buck! My only complaint about this location is their cleaning. Had high expectations and was very disappointed ! Brother ordered Blue crab that the meat was soggy and no meat in most of it and it was not Blue Crab as we know it! First let me say there is no question this is the best sushi in town. Anyone that says it's too expensive has never had good sushi. They often even have uni. Their fish quality is phenomenal, especially for the Midwest. They've maintained the extremely high standards of lucky garden. As for the boils, I was not disappointed at all. They buy live crawfish, have good sized shrimp, the mussels, oysters, clams are all great. They have the option of having it more dry spiced without as much butter which I prefer. For central Illinois this is a remarkable restaurant. As for the criticism that it's not a Cajun restaurant with out an etouffee or gumbo or the like that may be valid but only for semantic purposes. We decided to pop by the Tasty Crab to check out. It was a weekday after the usual dinner rush. Couple things right off the bat - their menu has prices written in pen, spelling errors, and their adult beverage menu needs some major work - no info on their wines (name of the winery, region, etc), beer list is pretty limited, nothing on draft and the cocktails are only listed names without any idea what comes in them. Our server had no idea what was in them either. Not great. We ordered a couple Sapporos that came in a bottle with semi-cold mugs to pour them into. Our Coconut Shrimp were pretty good. We each got combos. Me- muscles and shrimp. Him- Blue Crab & Snow Crab. I wanted to order Garlic Butter with Cajun seasoning, but I was informed that wasn't possible (yet they have an option for everything called Tasty Special). So I got Garlic Butter, but was still asked "how spicy" I wanted it??? Our combos were delivered in plastic bags dumped onto our plates. Not very classy if you ask me. *NOTE* You really don't want to wear anything white when coming to eat here. You will end up with spots on your clothes. The shrimp and crag were pretty good. The mussels were overcooked and a few of them hadn't opened (never eat mussels that haven't opened when cooking). The butter was pretty bland. The corn was mushy. The staff started loudly cleaning the dining area while we ate (we were not the last ones there, two other couples were sat while we were finishing our meal). Which was very distracting and made us feel very unwelcome. All in all the experience was pretty underwhelming. I will probably give it another shot eventually to try their fish basket and/or sushi. The food was delicious and very reasonable at lunch time. The Calamari Basket was very tender and almost melted in my mouth. The Cajun Mussel Soup had a great creamy taste to it with an abundance of mussels! For calling it cajun, i was expecting a little more spice and the same with the cajun french fries. Nothing was greasy, which i think is very important when ordering fried food. My Grandma loved the shrimp basket and the shrimp are very big, unlike Red Lobsters shrimp next door! The reason for 4 stars is that the iced tea was weak and the sweet tea was WAY TOO SWEET! Also, with Covid still around, the 2 glass walk in doors to get in the building were filthy with smudges and fingerprints and marks where kids have put their mouths on them. We were really looking forward to something different. This was a Chinese restaurant until October this year. Now they are Cajon seafood. I had the lunch oyster basket for $10. It had 7 very small oysters. The batter appeared to be wonderful and crunchy but had absolutely no flavor. It came with Cajon fries and slaw. The fries tasted freezer burnt, no flavor and chewy. I ate a couple and left the rest. The slaw was good. My husband had the fish basket. He asked what kind of fish and the waiter said either cod or talpali. Those fish have nothing in common. Not sure what actually came. The batter was very crunchy but had no flavor. The fish was quite mushy. Again the fries were awful but the slaw was okay. Way to much money for bad food. Would like to see a sampler platter or something so you can try a variety without ordering the items as add ons or making it more pricey. It is a bit pricey. The other person with me had the calamari and said that tasted like just grocery store frozen. Also had the coconut shrimp the sauce combined with the shrimp makes it very sweet. Sushi was excellent. We did the make your own combo, the shrimp were really good. The blue crab, not so great. To start, it's not the whole crab that you get, it's already had the outer shell removed and split. These are extremely small crabs, almost no meat in the legs. The texture of the crab meat was pretty nasty, it was so over cooked it was water logged and mushy making it pretty much impossible to get it out. A hermit crab would have more meat. The potato was good, but the corn was gross. I never knew it to be possible to ruin a piece of corn, but they managed to. Water logged and way way over boiled..all 3 of us tossed the corn. The amount of butter/ oil that everything comes swimming in is way too much. Great concept, the crabs need to be bigger, the chef needs to learn to properly prepare crab and corn. If you plan on going, wear clothes that you can toss afterwards due to the amount of butter/ oil you are going to have oozing everywhere. I would also suggest carrying a roll of decent paper towel with you. The nonabsorbent napkins and 1 moist towelette are not sufficient. read more

Myself and 3 others came to this Cajun/ Japanese restaurant with open minds. Being frequent lucky garden customers we were not happy with this recent replacement. You walk in and you are seated with both a Cajun menu and a sushi menu. Both of which lack focus in either cuisines. Our group of four samples two of each cuisine. Two Cajun dishes, two sushi dishes. The dishes were brought out in the order they were completed ( if that's important to you). We tasted each dish and nothing was blatantly bad or good about them. Which is the issue. If you close down a well established restaurant with a very loyal base ( aka: State Farm employees) the successor should be of similar quality. Instead, this confused Cajun/ Japanese restaurant delivers both cuisines but neither of them well. And for the price, you are better off traveling to the grocery store, purchasing each ingredient yourself and preparing it at home. You will not only save money, but also produce the same quality food if not better. I wished for this restaurant to be successful. Went there for lunch today. Had the fried shrimp lunch which came with Cajun fries and slaw. The slaw was terrible. Basically just cabbage, not a lot of flavor and a very small serving which was fine because it wasn't any good. Cajun fries were straight out of an ore ida bag into the fryer and were severely lacking in any Cajun flavor. But I must say, the shrimp were delicious. Breaded just right and snapped when you bit into them. Large shrimp with just the right amount of breading. Would I go back? Yes. But I would ask if I could substitute the sides. read more

Waited a few months to go. So worth it. This is my first try trying a Cajun shrimp boil. All I can say is wow it was amazing. I ordered half shrimp half smoked sausage with garlic butter seasoned and mild seasoning. It was delicious! Had calamari and coconut shrimp as an appetizer for four friends and my bill only came to $31. So surprised. Will definitely come back many times. I expected a lot better. Went there for lunch and the food isn't great. I had fried calamari and I'm sure it's bought frozen and pre-breaded. It was down right chewy and flavorless. The "Cajun" fries are a joke. No seasoning what so ever and again, came out of a freezer to the fryer. This is the best seafood in the area! The service is quick and the food is great. The Cajun has different levels of spicy, so you get the great Cajun flavor that is perfect for you. I drove about an hr to get some of their seafood since I didn't have one in my hometown. I got a special which included (1/2 lbs shrimp1/2 crab leg and lobster tail. I added black mussels to my order and 1/2 lbs of sausage) all in all I spent around $60. Once I got home I looked over my food excited to eat and noticed my lobster tail was over cooked and that's what I wanted since I had added it to my order. I called the establishment and let them know what happen. They told me I could come back to the restaurant and get a new one but I told them I lived an hr away the lady told me she was the owner and was writing my name down and whenever I come back I would have a credit on my order. Fast forward months later and I'm back in town I tried going there and I was placing my order i Mentioned the credit the lady on the phone said there was no boss there then put me on hold for 15 minutes and say we can't find that but now this is male on the phone he then goes I'm the manager and we see your order but nothing was put down. So the owner just flat out lied like she took my information down! I dislike the honesty. The service is great! Our favorite waiter is still there from when it was The Lucky Garden!! The food is very good, my only complaint is the vast amount of plastic each person gets. Two plastic straws per drink, two plastic gloves, a plastic bib, plastic table cloths, and each meal comes in a protective plastic bag.
