We tried the Tasty Crab tonight and were not impressed. The fried items were not bad at all. And, from what we could see other patrons were happy with their orders. I say it wasn't bad, because it wasn't great. They bill themselves as Cajun, but are far from. They will sprinkle the food with "Cajun" spice, from a jar and call it Cajun. There was no actual Cajun food on the menu. No red beans and rice (only steamed rice and no beans at all), no jambalaya, the sausage was just a boiled Polish sausage (not andouille). All of the boiled dishes were brought out in plastic bags and "poured" out onto metal chargers. We've tried it, the food was alright. The atmosphere was confused, with hints of its previous life as a Chinese restaurant. There was an attempt at a "nautical" theme, with "pier" type rope wrappings on the pillars. Then, the license plates on the wall, tried to bring the Route 66 vibe. Lastly, were the vinyl records on the restroom doors. While there was music playing, it was the Chinese pop music from the previous incarnation. No Jazz, a you might expect in a "Cajun" restaurant. We see no need to go back. read more

At first I didn't love the Tasty Crab.. but it's slowly become something I crave all the time. I usually order the half pound no head shrimp, crawfish, and extra potatoes with tasty special extra hot. Today I've been craving it so bad but am out of town, so I'm going to try and make a copy at home. Haha! I definitely recommend if you're looking for spicy flavor and seafood. The sausage you can add to the meal is also great. Edit because I read some reviews: yes, their menu does have a few errors, and there is some language barrier between staff and customers, but one of the waiters there is absolutely amazing every time he serves our table. As for eating utensils for crab, I asked when I ordered, and they brought the cracker and a little fork. I saw a review about dirty scissors?? I don't think so. If I could could give ZERO stars, I would! This place used to be a Chinese place and to be honest, they should have stayed that way. They don't know anything about seafood. I ordered the snow crab. When it arrived, it was the skinny little crab legs you find a Chinese buffet. They do not provide any utensils to eat the crab. The very strange waitress (I say strange because she never stopped talking. Even as we placed our orders!!) came back to our table with DIRTY OFFICE SCISSORS to open the crab shells! My friend ordered catfish that was SOGGY. He complained to the waitress and then to the manager who refused to fix it!!! Absolutely without a doubt, we will NEVER return. Doesn't look like much when you walk in but I was dying of hunger so we popped in and we regret it so much, we had a big group and they literally lasted 30minutes moving tables around so they could seat us. They were really rude and looking at each other nodding their heads. They didn't give us the approximate wait time. They didn't even put an effort of seating They have no high chairs so I recommend not going there with children that need them. read more

This was a bad experience from the waitress reaching over me while I was eating. To the food. I never been here before so I ordered something that you can not mess up. Fried shrimp. Well let me tell you, they somehow managed to mess up the fried shrimp. It was bad. On top of that the drinks were even worse than the shrimp. Wow!! Tasty is how I would describe this restaurant! The blue crabs were amazing, big, full of crab and seasoned just right. They come with corn and potatoes that taste great with the seasoning. Had the steamed oysters with medium Cajun sauce appetizer and the black mussels boil entree. The mussels were tender and juicy. Would have been very impressed with this entree, but I had started with the oyster appetizer. WAS THE BEST thing I have eaten in a long time! Gave it an extra star just because you can't get this anywhere else in town so at least they tried! It is what it is: a Chinese/sushi place turned into a Cajun Boil/sushi place, in the midwest. If you go into it with this in mind, you won't be disappointed. If you expect a good, traditional cajun boil and fresh seafood, you're in the wrong place (wrong part of the country for that matter). We started with crab cakes. Greasy and lots of breading, BUT, lots of crab too. But overall disappointing crab cakes even for Illinois. In spite of my warning, my wife (from Baltimore) dared to try the blue crab, I gave a half order of crayfish and half order of shrimp a shot. My wife said the blue crab was extremely rubbery and overcooked. She put it down after the second bite and started eating off my dish. My shrimps had good flavor from the sauce but were very overcooked. The crayfish also overcooked and as crayfish go, not worth the work for such a small amount of meat. We asked the server where the blue crab came from and she said she wasn't sure but probably somewhere in Illinois (not kidding). Service was friendly and quick. $58 bucks for two diners with a couple of beers and one app. read more

We loved both the sushi and the seafood boil!This is a must try! My husband and I split a big sushi roll called the crunchy 2 in 1(fantastic and fresh) and he had the fried oyster basket (lunch portion) with seven nice big fat oysters. He wasn't up to trying the cajun fries so they made some plain ones (standard crinkle cut) just for him. He also had the homemade clam chowder which had good flavor and was thin but creamy just like you get in Maine where my husband grew up. As we were heading in to the restaurant a couple of women asked if we had been there before...when we replied that it was a new adventure for us they replied "Oh you are going to love it! It is our favorite restaurant now. They advised that I get the "tasty sauce" which was melted butter, garlic and mild cajun seasoning. So I did...it was really messy but oh so good....I got the luncheon portion of headless shrimp that came with corn and red potatoes. There were almost a dozen large shrimp that had been de-veined so they were super easy to peel. They were firm in texture...not overcooked and had excellent flavor. You can get a range from boiled plain to really spicy.I want to go back next week to get a crayfish and crab combo. The restaurant is not fancy but very clean and family friendly (there were quite a few children eating mostly chicken tenders...LOL). Not only is the food delicious every one who works there is so friendly and accommodating in a relaxed and genuine way. Our server, Michael, was so good we tipped 25% at lunch time. I think next time we will go for dinner and have an adult beverage from the full bar. read more
