My husband and I found ourselves unexpectedly staying in a hotel nearby The Tavern and were looking for a restaurant to have dinner within walking distance of our hotel. Yelpers mentioned The Tavern so we decided to give it a try. This is not the typical place we'd normally visit but I'm so glad we did! Brandon welcomed us in and brought us menus. We arrived around 5 PM on a Friday. It was clear that this is a local watering hole. [[HIGHLIGHT]]From the pinball machines, to the dollar bills stapled to the walls, juke box, dart board, and the 'claw' machine it was a very fun experience.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I ordered the BBQ Pork. It was excellent and the portion size was generous. I needed a to-go box for my leftovers! My husband ordered the Birria Burrito. Brandon was very helpful answering my husband's questions as he'd never had Birria before. It was a good choice for my husband. Throughout our meal, Brandon checked on us and refilled our drinks several times. He chatted with us as well and seemed to be working the entire restaurant on his own. Prices here are quite reasonable. This small restaurant is by a tattoo shop that's right beside the 7-Eleven on the corner of E Colonial and Magnolia. The restaurant has parking in the back and to go into there is really small. So, one car going in or one car going out. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The restaurant has plenty of seating and looks a bit crazy, in a good way, and lots of fun.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]There are dollars stapled to the walls all around the restaurant with cute and funny messages, some have the F word on them, so be careful with the little ones reading them.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The service was great, the was so tasty and very good prices. read more

Good drink deals on standard beer/seltzers, but we were disappointed in the food. We came in around 8:45pm before a show. There seemed to only be 1 employee running around to the tables, and he was doing a great job (taller guy with beard and muscular build - idk his name)! Server was definitely the highlight. However, we waited 45min for our tacos and rice bowls, and the food fell flat - rice was undercooked and the meat was also dry. The sauce helped a little, but overall, was very disappointed ESPECIALLY since we also had to wait a long time. (They said they had to make more rice which caused the delay?) I didn't have high expectations for the food coming here, but after spending $80 on two entrees, a margarita, and a few beers with that much wait, I won't be rushing back. read more

Went here to watch a basketball game with my husband. There is a small parking lot in the back. [[HIGHLIGHT]]We got a table in front of the big tv.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I believe the manager was who took care of us. Got our drink order right away. We ordered a bucket of high noons which I thought was a good deal. For food, we ordered chicken wings and nachos. The food took a little long to come out but they told us that ahead of time. We weren't in a hurry anyway since we were watching.m the game. Lots of different flavors for the wings. We chose honey sriracha which was tasty with a little heat. The pork nachos were a good size. Orlando-Great lil dive bar with great drinks. Hard to believe their Old Fashioned was actually made with Woodford Reserve without even "calling" it! That was a very pleasant surprise! They make their own margarita mix too. I like the dive bar feel, but the gal working was definitely not happy to be there today. I like a more relaxed feel and she definitely was very uptight and wasn't friendly. The 3 of us ordered burritos. 2 Birria, and one pork, along with guacamole and chips. The guac had some kind of additive that made it taste off. Just avocado, lime, onions, jalapeño, and cilantro is allll you need. No fake filler to make it go further. All of the burritos were more rice than meat. They were ok, but not anything that would make us return. read more

[[HIGHLIGHT]]The bar is a very chill spot.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] There is parking in the back but be careful because since the road to parking basically fits one car at a time. [[HIGHLIGHT]]They have a few games inside and I love going to places that have dollar bills on the walls because there is always a story behind it.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The server/bartender was running the whole thing as ithere was just a decent amount of people there. He was attentive and made sure i was good! I heard their birria melts is good and that was not a lie! The meat was well seasoned. The melt had the pull cheese when you bite from it. Of course the consume perfectly added to the whole thing. I also ordered half elote for my side. The corn was perfectly cooked. I ordered online to pick up. The order was ready on time and easy to pick up. I got 2 birria tacos. I like that they have an option make them crispy. I think the inside of the tacos were a little drier than expected with birria tacos but they were still good when eaten with the broth. read more

We wanted somewhere super casual, near downtown as we had another stop there, and Mexican sounded good. It is an unassuming establishment and calls itself a 'vibe' vs a dive bar. It's a dive bar IMO with really great food. They are located on colonial and although they have signage, it's easy to pass. They have several parking spots but it was a slow night and that lot was half full, so I imagine it would be hard to park there for games and such. [[HIGHLIGHT]]This is not generally my scene, but we were thoroughly impressed. They had a jukebox, dart throwing and sports on. It was loud but we could communicate.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Our server was Mark. He was incredible. He was managing several tables and the phones - all at the same time. The menu is impressive for such a small place and leans to bar food and Mexican. There are even a few Vegan and other specialty options. And they have happy hour too. I noticed that a lot of the food options were listed as spicy and that's not what I wanted. So, I custom-made a quesadilla. It was huge and so very good (one piece pictured). One of the best I've had here in Orlando and not overloaded with cheese - the perfect amount. My husband had 3 pork tacos and couldn't finish them. They were also very, very good. We had leftovers which was nice. And, they have great prices! I think our bill (without the discount) was only about $35!! I had a basic $5 glass of wine and he had a Corona. Not bad and satisfied the craving. If you are down there and looking for this vibe and food, check them out. We will definitely go again! read more

We went here on taco Tuesday to try something new. The food pictures online looked really good! The food ended up being pretty yummy but nothing amazing. However, there was only one server and it took over an hour to get our food. Poor guy was trying his best to bartend and serve! They gave my boyfriend the wrong burrito but it was no big deal and he enjoyed and anyway. So this bar is a hidden hole in the wall bar. The location is in a super sketchy area (behind the 711) , but once you make it inside the bar, you would never know. We have been stopping here before shows at the vanguard for drinks/apps. Always excellent service and super friendly bartenders . Good bar food too. Brandon made our day! The food was fresh and tasty. We had the taco salad, guacamole, street corn, pulled pork taco and Barbaco taco. Plus a beer and a special drink Brandon made us with a new spicy rum, lime and ginger beer. Brandon's calm but efficient manner was perfect after our hectic weekend. I really wanted to love this place, but it was just OK for me. They can be fun and fantastic. Tavern is one of the best hidden gems in Orlando. The menu isn't huge but everything they do is very, very good. The Birria tacos are my favorite thing, but the spicy chicken nachos, quesadillas, and elote are all awesome, too. The drink prices are great, staff is always cool and attentive, and as it says inside "it's not a dive bar, it's a vibe bar." Tavern is a 5/5 for sure. read more

Came here for lunch because my coworkers swore it was good. I got 3 tacos. One chicken, one birria, and one shrimp. The chicken and birria meat had no flavor whatsoever. This place is super cute inside. They have a lot of cute decor and games you can play games like darts. They also do trivia which seems super fun. We stopped in for dinner and drinks and had a blast. The restaurant wasn't super full which is hard to believe with how good our food was. Our server Mark was really sweet and attentive. He told us everything was made fresh to order and wasn't kidding. Such a cool bar spot with amazing Mexican food. We tried the birria tacos, the vegetarian quesadilla and the trio of dips. I loved the birria tacos and the queso. All the dips were homemade and delicious. Don't skip out on their drinks either. I got the Wild Berry Mojito and my friend ordered the Blood Orange Margarita. BEST TACOS IN ORLANDO!!!!! There is no competition, AT ALL! I have never had tacos better than these, specifically the BBQ Pork and Birria tacos. From the outside, the place is easy to miss, it's a small location but it has an amazing atmosphere once your inside, amazing drinks--specifically the Loopy Martini, you'll thank me later--and amazing food. The tacos here are fantastic! Birria and shrimp tacos are my favorite. It's a ways the same server. She is there by her self, running the floor and the bar. But the girl remembers the orders without writing them down and then when you come back, she already knows what you want! read more

This is a small spot off of colonial driven but it is really good. I've had a few different tacos here and they are all good. The way the tortilla grilled makes a big difference. The service was good. The bartender/waiter was a welcoming guy. The ambiance was very LBGQT+ friendly in my opinion which I wasn't aware but didnt bother me. The only con I have was the food could have been more flavorful but on the upside the presentation was nice. I wanted to like this place but it just didn't live up to my expectations. You can choose to sit at a high top, a low top, or a booth.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We ordered the tavern sampler & the birria melt with potato salad as a side. The tavern sampler comes with chips, pico, queso, guacamole, 2 elotes, & 4 tacos - chicken, pork, birria, & pork. Everything lacked salt. I usually complain about things in Florida being too salty, but all of our food lacked salt except for the chips. Their guac had WAY too much lime in it. I liked that the tacos were all crispy, but they were lacking serious flavor. The elotes were off. The corn was over boiled, there was no butter or mayo. Just a slight drizzle of crema, a heavy squeeze of lime, & some parm tossed on top. The pork & chicken tacos seemed like it was just meat slapped into the tortilla & then fried on the grill until crispy. The shrimp taco had cheese & what seemed like a sweet thai chili sauce in it. The taste was weird. The birria tacos were probably the best out of the 4, but probably the worst birria I've had due to lack of flavor. Points for actually making the shell crispy though. My husband had the birria melt & was pissed at the potato salad. Said it was the worst potato salad he's ever had, & going to Publix probably would've been better. I think we've learned our lesson. Don't stray from the Mexican places we know are good in FL, bc we'll just be dissappointed. Service was good, but very slow. The place was probably 1/2 packed, but I only saw 1 server running around the entire night. read more

Y'all!!!!! We were visiting from Tampa to watch an afternoon Magic's game on a Sunday and we give this place a 1000000 stars!!! I'm a simple girl. Give me some yummy food, a shot a menu, some vodka options and I'm happy. I'm a tex-mex girl and when I tell you this food fed my soul I'm not lying! It reminded me of being back home in San Antonio. It was flavorful, delicious and cheesy. That gentlemen back there knows what he's doing. My favorite tacos were the pork and chicken but everything was great. the food was good and we went on a taco tuesday saying soo much money on great food! i had the birria with rice and beans! it was great and i took a bit home to finish as it was a great size of food!! the service was fast, let us switch tables, let us add to our order, did everything with a smile! the liquor i will admit feels on the cheap side but if gets the job done! all in all you'll be pretty happy especially on a deal day!!!! read more

Next, came Course 2, which consisted of a Pork Chop, Casa Verde Mofongo and Chicken Fried Steak. The Casa Verde Mofongo is a Puerto Rican dish (which I just learned about this evening), consisting of sautéed bell peppers, red onions, sweet corn, and mashed plantains in a spicy remoulade. One of my friends is Puerto Rican and gave this dish high marks as did I. Finally, the chicken fried steak was perfectly cooked and came with Yukon Gold mashed potatoes, broccoli and sawmill gravy. We enjoyed these three dishes immensely. Course 3 consisted of the following desserts: Key Lime pie, Midnight Chocolate Ganache and Banana Bread Pudding. The Key lime pie was excellent as was the banana bread pudding. We thought the midnight chocolate ganache was a little too sweet for us, as it was truly a decadent dessert. They torch the butter right at your table, which is such a fun touch, and it smells incredible. The mentaiko fries are still a must order every single visit, and for dessert you can't skip the matcha tiramisu or the taro ice cream with the hot green tea. The ramen, grilled meats, addicting appetizers, fun drinks, awesome atmosphere, and consistently amazing staff are exactly why I keep coming back. Easily one of my favorite spots in Orlando.

I believe it may have been the Havana Ballroom. There was plenty of food, drinks, and mingling. The Cuba Libre Restaurant staff were great, and the venue was well laid out and worked for this event very well. When we arrived around 6:30 PM on a Saturday evening for our event, we first mingled around the tables and near the cash bar. There were a bunch of large tables that we began to fill out. As our program began and announces made and awards given out, appetizers were passed out. We were offered Guacamole Cubano, Mama Amelia's Empanadas, and Shrimp Cocktail which we passed around to the entire table. Personally, I skipped the guacamole and shrimp dishes but absolutely loved the empanadas. Yum! Then, an individual Cuban House Salad was passed out with red wine vinaigrette. This was also quite tasty. Next came the entrees including a choice of Salmon Paradiso, Ropa Vieja, Citrus Chicken, or Paella Vegetariana. I was trying to decide between the Ropa Vieja (beef brisket) and the Citrus Chicken. While the Citrus Chicken sounded perfect, I asked the serving staff their advice, and they recommended the Ropa Vieja for a true taste of Cuba. I was happy that I did even though it may have been more heavy and with a kick than I was expecting. I'm still glad I ordered it though. It was wonderfully prepared! And then, everyone received Cuban Flan for dessert. The Cuba Libre Restaurant & Rum Bar celebrates Cuban heritage and explores Cuban flavors, music, art, and traditions. The mission of the restaurant is to provide an "escape" to Havana through exciting food and beverages and entertainment experiences to celebrate the Cuban people and their culture.
