This is a no frills motel that's very close to the beach. The man who checked me in was very friendly and helpful. There's no elevator, so that may be a concern for some. I didn't use the pool, but it looked like a nice area with a fire pit. If the beach is what you're planning to do in Laguna, this is a convenient choice. The front desk will also give you beach towels to use. I liked the nice touch of the welcome note and earplugs :) read more

Delightful, reasonably priced place to stay in Laguna Beach, and the owners add a personal touch, which provides a nice contrast to the impersonal nature of many of the other, more expensive properties. Feels like staying with your Grandma. A few drawbacks, a little annoying, still left the impression of a good place. Room 101 has 3 living spaces & bathroom: a kitchenette with microwave, sink, full size refrigerator, coffee pot, dishware & utensils; a sitting area for dining and TV watching; a bedroom, with clothing bar & drawers inside a closet, a full bathroom, all small but adequate. The chenille spread covering the daybed had holes in it. In the bedroom, the queen bed had a much used mattress, somewhat lumpy. The air conditioning unit was mounted at the top of a wall and cooled the kitchen & sitting area but didn't reach the bedroom, leaving the latter too warm at night. The Keurig coffee maker wouldn't brew; being early & not wanting to disturb my still-sleeping husband, I didn't ask for a replacement, which surely would have come. Overall a comfortable stay. Homey feel, very clean, with a welcome note & tasteful art or sayings on the wall; quiet, due to tall stone wall outsidewith ivy all over it; car ports for parking, friendly accommodating staff. Pool looked inviting, grill also provided. Best feature: a few short blocks from downtown with many art galleries & eateries plus volleyball courts on the beach. read more

My boyfriend and I stayed here recently and I wasn't impressed. The location is great, parking is cramped and small, but is free and our room smelt old and musty. The biggest issue though was the fact that the walls are so thin you can hear EVERYTHING. I unfortunately heard our neighbors having very loud sex for a long time. I get people are here on romantic vacations but I don't really want to hear insanely loud moaning through the walls when those neighbors finally stopped going at it the people above us were stomping around like dinosaurs the rest of the night, so I got no sleep. Nice little spot tucked away behind a huge fence. Family owned and operated in the sweet little beach town of Laguna Beach. The rooms are cute and cozy, good for a romantic weekend away or a girls night. Sistah and I did the girls night and it was wonderful! The place is within walking distance to some of the bars, restaurants and parks we wanted to visit. So we ended up getting dressed up pretty and walking to dinner after having a few drinks and meeting people who play cards at a bar we made the trek back up the hill. One thing that would make this place perfection would be a Jacuzzi! We dipped our feet in the pool but it's November and I'm a San Diego girl so you know I was freezing! The outside fire place is beautiful to enjoy a glass of wine. Parking is snug, some are covered and some are not. Great little place for the money you spend, I'll definitely go back. I stayed here overnight for Kirstie G.'s bachelorette weekend back in June. My requirements were for a clean, nicely appointed room not too far from downtown so we could safely do a night of heavy drinking and cab it back since I live in Long Beach and she's in LA. I booked the room online through Orbitz, and a couple of days before the weekend, I called the hotel/motel directly and asked them if they could please put us in a room with two beds so that Kirs and I could each have our own space (hey, I love her, I just don't LOVE her...) The nice guy on the phone told me they only had 1 room with 2 beds and it'd actually be an upgrade, but he'd do it, no problem. "Bitchen," I believe, was my reaction. However, when we arrived on Saturday, he told me that he'd screwed up and that room was taken and not only did he no longer have our original room (which was supposed to be ocean view,) but we'd actually gotten downgraded. Whaaaa? So, not wanting to make a stinky scene in front of the bride-to-be, I sucked it up and we trudged off to our room. It was on the lower floor (there are 2) right up front on PCH, and blocked from any kind of view by one of those cement-block walls. Lovely. A troop of kids and fellow hotel guests trudged up and down the stairway outside the room as well. Inside, our room had the oddest layout: a bedroom in back with a closet, and then a kitchenette up front with a small dining room table, the bathroom and a day bed. I ended up sleeping on the day bed, which actually worked out well since not only were we not in the same bed, we weren't even in the same room, maximizing privacy. Bottom line is that this place is fine, however expensive, if you're just needing a place to stay in Laguna. I wouldn't recommend it particularly if you're looking for something really upscale (which is really what the misleading Web site makes you think -- the photo by the pool with the nice seating and fireplace is taken from some funky angle that makes the place seem like an oasis. That it is not. See photos.) They bill this place as a boutique-y type hotel/motel, but most is a facade. Like I said, it served our purposes fine, since we didn't spend much time there anyway, but I felt cheated - first by the photos on the site, and then by the check-in staff. read more

This older property has been lovingly renovated. For the value, price, location and friendly staff you cannot beat this place. We have stayed a number of times and cannot believe how lucky we are to have this lodging option in such a beautiful location/city. We always choose to stay in a room that is closer to the office or back part of the property because of the street noise from PCH. Other than that you are good to go. Well worth a stay. read more

A nice little cozy hotel a few blocks from the downtown area. The rooms are very clean and have a good layout. I love that they have wood floors instead of carpet! The staff is very attentive. They left us a hand-written note and a bottle of wine since we were celebrating an occasion. The pool is heated and there is a fireplace area by the pool that we sat at in the evening. This hotel is adorable. Absolutely adorable. If you decide to stay at this hotel, it should not be because you are in town for a weekend of partying, as it is in a very residential part of town (which many guests seem to forget and are LOUD at night, which I think is very rude to the surrounding residents). It just doesn't seem like that kind of place, and anyone who stays here with those intentions is likely to be disappointed. It is a very relaxing atmosphere somehow even though it is pretty much in the center of everything. The fact that there is a pool at all and that it is blocked completely from PCH is remarkable. The owners are very nice and staying here feels like staying at a friend's house. They must live nearby, because they were always available no matter what the need. I think that the rooms are sort of trendy in a boutique style, but I would stay here more so because they are extremely homey and comfortable (though they are certainly cute). There is plenty of parking and it is possible to walk everywhere that you could possibly need to go in town. read more

Had a great time here! Onsite management was very friendly and helpful. Room was terrific and their saltwater pool was surprisingly wonderful. It's nothing real fancy but is comfortable and charming, and consistent with my impression of the real Laguna Beach lifestyle. The little kitchen made us feel right at home. Tides Inn is perfect for a relaxing beach getaway, and we will be returning soon. I should mention that the beach is close by and only takes a few minutes to walk, plus the location is very convenient near downtown, restaurants and shops. read more

Very charming little boutique-y motel. Customer service though was the clincher, and why I'd certainly come back, if ever in this area again...the evening staff stayed late when we called from Anaheim to see if we could get a room that same night, upon arriving he then mapped us out things we must do and see in town the next day. The morning staff was equally lovely. Room was simple, clean, and the pillows were fabulous. Pool was lovely, and while we didn't use it, we wished we had the time to. Free parking was great, as well as the free wifi. As well, after driving the coast the next day it was apparent just how great the location of the Tides was...as we passed by many of the other well priced hotels that had been on our list that ended up being so far from town. We chose this Hotel as a weekend getaway to celebrate my birthday amidst this pandemic we wanted to get some family time in near the beach and have access to a pool. Knowing the area pretty well we decided to go for this location, when I called Henderson was great,awesome customer service and just made it easy for me to make the decision to book the room. When we first got there the place was not so bad ,definitely not The Ritz but ok for the price we paid. Unfortunately when we got to our room it only got worse,this hotel is pretty old, run down and in desperate need of some remodeling,but still not the worse part the floors were pretty dirty,paper thin walls and the rest of the rooms were also pretty gross. The ceiling fan was full of dust, it smelled mildewy, the blankets were old and stained,tv did not work but the worse part by far was the used medication my kids found in the closet it was dangerous and disgusting you can see pictures attached. I would have never chosen this property if I would have known the truth ,unsure why the reviews are so good,it just doesn't make sense to me. I had to sleep with one eye open and freezing cold because I didn't want anything unnecessary to touch me...by far worst experience yet. Definitely not recommended. read more

stayed in a room with double beds, me, hubby, and 2 giant teenage boys, and they slept comfortably in the same bed - plenty of pillows - super cozy! our room was facing the PCH, literally just a few steps from the door, and it was fine, traffic didn't bother us at all - the old school hum of the air conditioner was perfect white noise - Maybe if you're a super light sleeper, or impossible to please & love to complain, you wouldn't want to stay in one of the rooms close to the street. but we didnt mind a bit? yes the "walls are thin" but good grief, big deal. maybe if you're beside someone having a 'wild party' it might suck, but c'mon, it certainly wasnt a deal breaker to occasionally hear other people talk loud or walk around upstairs LOL. front office guy was SO kind and helpful. we had a late check-in, it was close to 9 PM, and he called us as were were driving into town to check our ETA. we were close and he waited on us to get there! it was also our anniversary, and hubby went to store for flowers, wine, and a card - while we were out, he had front desk guy set it up on our kitchen table, it was perfect! all in all, we thought the accommodations were adorable, and with Heisler Park right across the street, location was perfect! read more

The perfect getaway for a night. My husband and I had a night away from home and decided to stay here on a Saturday night during Memorial weekend. The price was reasonable and the staff was amazing. Wonderful people you'll ever meet and very helpful with where to eat and go etc. parking is as any other place you get a space and leave your car if you can walk to your destination. The less you move your car the better. They have parking in the front and back so you'll always get a space even though it's tight. The rooms are cute and very clean. The pool area is cute with a cozy fire place and hot tub. The hotel gives you towels and chairs as well as an umbrella for the beach if needed! I love that! The beach is an 8 minute walking distance and food places are the same and done even closer depending not where you like to go. Mapping it out before you go is the way to do it. My husband and I walked everywhere as it's great exercise and I tracked everything and we walked about 6 to 7 miles that day which was nice ( if you like exercise). If you love Mexican food, Carmelita's Kitchen ( on Broadway) was where we ate and it was really good. The beach is beautiful and you can look at the tide pools and there is usually a very educated person there to talk to you about the shells and sea life there. I love to learn about it so I'm the nerd to ask all the crazy questions but they are patient and answer everything. The only thing I have to state is that if you do stay here and you aren't too keen on noise, stay on the second floor. We were on the first floor and the people above us were stomping around like water buffaloes and it was annoying!!! They wouldn't stop until after 1:00 am. Then the slamming of their front door was annoying as well I finally got out of bed to tell them to be quiet! The people next door to us had their tv up so loud that it felt like I was in a movie theater! Those are the only two negative things I have but aren't those at all hotels you stay at? All I have to say is, for the front desk clerks is to tell your patrons who stay to stress to your guests to please be aware of their surroundings as not be so noisy after 10 pm. DO NOT STAY HERE!!!!! Very very disappointed my wife and I stayed here for our anniversary. Upon checking in, we left our luggage in the room and went for a close walk to the beach. Once really taking a look at the room, I found a stain on our bedspread, a stain on the tile, and the mirror is practically hanging off the wall. I asked the woman at the front desk for a refund, she said the only way for a refund would be if they resold the room tonight. I then stated that that was not my problem and $276 for this room was an absolute joke. read more

I stayed at the Tides hotel this past weekend. The people who run it are very accommodating and friendly. However, my girls and I were very disappointed with the room (108). It definitely could use some updating! It felt like it was decorated with second hand furniture. I wouldn't have minded except for the fact that my 1 night rate was over $425 (a Saturday night). It just felt wrong to pay that much which to me, felt like a motel. The tile floors were also very slippery. It could use a large area rug to prevent a fall. It's close to the beach, but not very close for walking distance to much else. Also, the parking situation is very tight. Beware if you own a large car or cannot maneuver in tight spaces. read more

We have stayed here a few times before however the last experience was anything but "exceeding our expectations". A little known fact about rooms that are listed on Expedia and their web site, is that their queen size rooms that show as suitable for 3 people are the size of a match box without a window. Extremely tight space so even if the 3rd person was a child or a baby, I have no idea where you can put them...the shower?! The only window you have is in the bathroom. Seems that the space was possibly a storage room at some point but they decided to rent it out for $200/night. Next time I will be more than happy to pay the extra $100 and stay across the street in a room with a window. It was extremely underwhelming experience compared to prior visits, so we won't be staying there again. The only positive about this place, was the staff at the reception desk - very friendly and helpful. The beds and comforter are super comfy - and they do provide extra pillows if you require them. read more

My family stayed in room 208 for two nights during the summer. The hotel is located across the Pacific Coast Highway from the beach and Heisler Park (five or six minute walk to Heisler Park), and the pricing is reasonable given its location. Not cheap (nothing that close to the beach is), but reasonable compared to nearby accommodations. We had minimal interaction with the staff, but what we did have was excellent. They had beach items like umbrellas, chairs, and sandcastle toys that they loaned to their guests, so that was appreciated. I didn't personally visit the pool, but my husband enjoyed it despite there not being a hot tub. As for the room, 208 was a bit on the small side, but it was located away from the highway and was on a sort of third floor and was semi-isolated from other rooms, so highway noise wasn't really an issue. It was clean, had a fridge and Keurig, was quaintly decorated, and actually had an ocean view. However, the bed and sheets were terrible. The mattress creaked like it was 20+ years old and the sheets felt like sandpaper. You generally don't spend much time in the hotel room while on vacation, but you do sleep there, so a quality bed is important. As much as I wanted to love this hotel and have it as an option because of the excellent location and pricing, I unfortunately have to say that I won't be back because of the uncomfortable bed and sheets. If the bed were decent, this would probably be one of my go-to spots in Laguna. read more

The wife and I came here last spring for a weekend trip and I am only now getting around to reviewing. Fantastic hotel. Has the feel of a small B&B without the associated price. Tides Inn is a few blocks from the Heisler Park beach which is beautiful and much more low key and secluded than the main beach in town. You can bring chairs provided by the hotel and its only about a 5 minute walk down to the beach. My main concern with this place was that it would be too far from the bars and restaurants in town. Not so. As long as you are up for walking 10-15 minutes, you'll be right down in the thick of things, and have saved a ton of money than if you booked a hotel right in town. Combine all this with a friendly staff, off street parking and a really nice room... boom. 5 stars. We'll be back. read more

really liked the location. room was definitely small, but quite nicely decorated. comfortable bed, some parking, top notch staff, Keurig, clean pool. no ice, fridge, or bathtub, if that matters to you. if i were you, i'd refuse rooms 101, 102, and 201 as they are about 10 feet from highway traffic, including trucks and harleys throughout the night. interrupted sleep definitely affected my meeting the next day, and sleep is priority one at a hotel, in my opinion. walls on all sides were thin; we could hear our neighbors clearly too. i took a photo of the two sets of earplugs provided with a note on the nightstand, because it was probably the most amusing perk i've ever received. read more

But we knew it was a smaller room when we booked as no other rooms were available. Pros Onsite management was very accommodating Location, walking distance to Vons, the beach and downtown Laguna Nice pool, BBQ and fire pit area Mini-fridge in the room Cons The SHOWER! The pressure went in and out and the water went from scalding hot to freezing cold. Unfortunately the shower was a deal breaker for us and we won't be back. It's a nice hotel ,5 min walk from Laguna beach and heisler park. Staff is very nice and polite. We stayed there with my little doggie , I believe it's extra 20$ or so. Room was clean and beds are comfy . You can make your coffee at the room, but breakfast is not included though . And the only complaint is the upcoming traffic noise at night. Besides that everything was good . Plus parking is included ,there is no extra charge. Heisler park is a beautiful place ,it's like a little bay at Laguna beach . We enjoyed staying there . As I said its a doggie friendly place ,but you can walk your dog at the beach only after 6 pm,unfortunately. read more

We are a family of four staying with several other families for a reuinion. The hotel was a great location, central to shopping and the beach. The pool and bbq area was excellent. Our room was small but moderately clean. The beds were awful, like sleeping on a box springs! The fridge was not turned on or the toilet water. Shower went from cold to hot. Parking was extremely cramped also. Minor inconveniences except the bed!! We won't return because of that. Also daytime/female manager was awful. Family members had issues with their door. Were locked out and in twice. Had small children inside and door knob broke. It was after hours on the second night... management had been made aware that there was an issue with door the night before. Dad removed the door knob (without any damage to the door) to regain acsess to the room. The next morning they approached management again, third time with zero acknowledgement from management, management said they would have to pay for a new door knob! So if you don't need any sleep and don't mind getting locked out of your room then this place is great! read more

I was in town for a weekend packed with meetings. What a place to come home to at the end of long long days! What a treat to experience a locally-owned. Knowing we'd arrive late, they proactively made arrangements to hide room keys for us. Joe came by in the morning to make sure everything was going well and see how he could make the stay better. Who does that these days? The room was truly surprising. I wasn't the one to book it, so I didn't check them out ahead of time. The bedroom was roomy... then... a kitchen? Really? Yup, with a full-size coffee pot, microwave, big dorm fridge and sink. The bathroom was just as impressive - a roomy shower with 2 heads (suh-weet!) Don't forget to cross the street and travel a short block to enjoy the people, dogs and view of Heisler Park. On the way back, take the long way and enjoy blocks and blocks of galleries. read more

Decided last minute to take a little staycation with my boyfriend to Laguna. I hopped online and started reading reviews a we decided The Tides was the place for us and our dog tootsie. The staff is very friendly and welcoming to us and our dog! They have towels and beach chairs for the guests to use as well as a saltwater pool, outdoor fireplace, and bbq. The room was very clean, good ac, comfortable bed, and nicely decorated. The motel is just a short walk away from the downtown area and beach. Great little spot that I am very glad we stumbled upon. We stayed here for one night as we were doing a quick beach trip before Disneyland which is about 30 minutes away and were so pleased with our stay!! The people at the front desk were incredibly sweet and helpful, they offered us beach toys and extra towels, let us check in early and were very pleasant. The hotel itself is super clean and cute, right across from the beach, you cant beat this location. While the parking lot itself is very small and hard to find space, the hotel location itself is seriously perfect. We are for sure coming back to stay another weekend and beach trip! read more

If you are looking for luxury or Marriott amenities, you won't find that here. But this was one of the most relaxing places we have ever stayed at, with a great rate as an added bonus. Free parking and free (fast) internet only added to the value. Room 214 was comfortable, cozy and had it's own private staircase. We were toward the back of the property so traffic noise wasn't an issue at all. The bathroom is TINY and the shower is almost comically small but it had plenty of hot water and good pressure. The bathroom sink was really slow to drain and there was really no hot water there unless you let it run for a really long time, and with a drought going on, that didn't feel right so we just dealt with it. The bed was comfortable, the linens were clean and crisp and the wall AC unit kept the perfect temperature without being too loud. We didn't use the kitchenette but there was a single use Keurig and 2 coffee pods if we wanted in-room coffee. Parking was super tight but with a tiny car, we were always able to squeeze in somewhere. The location is great...a 2 minute walk to Heisler Park and Las Brisas. Urth Cafe is also just a short walk away and we had a fantastic breakfast there. We are definitely looking forward to our next visit to the Tides! read more

Wonderful staff, great location - 10-15 minute walk to downtown and beaches - pretty little old school hotel looking place, saltwater pool, pretty rooms - nice size, nice touches like stool and dressing nook with mirror, comfy bed, clean and tidy. Great price for the location. You can grab beach towels and even beach chairs for free to bring down to the beach! No breakfast offered, but who needs it when the Laguna Beach cafes & restaurants are calling anyway. I liked how the liquid soap/shampoo were installed into the wall of the shower so no plastic waste. Nice smelling soaps too. Free, strong wifi signal. We stayed in #206 which was a wee bit noisy from road traffic but "white noise" from a/c unit drowned it out, then extended stay one night and moved to #207 (only room available) which was pretty quiet and had a cute kitchenette. This would be my top choice for a stay next time we visit Laguna Beach! read more
