Probably one of the worst restaurants i've ever been to. Talk about lack of passion for everything they do. First of all to start we ordered the focaccia and oysters. For $6 you get 4 little piece of hotdog bun sized hard bread with 6 wrapped squares of butter. You would think for a nice respected resort they would have the decency to give you a dish and a decent amount of bread. The oysters were a total Lie. Slime warm oysters with the worst sauces i've ever tasted- didn't even come with mignonette because our 1 brain cell waiter said "well people usually don't like it" ... then don't advertise it. Pretty sure that's the only thing oysters come with in general. Our entrees were just straight garbage from the oceans ass. My steak was like cutting into an old tire with uncooked raw potatoes colder than a winter lake. The best part is.. not even the owner of the restaurant cared about their quality. It's just a trap. Save your money and drive 5 minutes into town or bring snacks. I wish there were negative stars to give this place. My experience at the tiller was so bad. I was with 2 girlfriends and made reservations for an early dinner as we had plans immediately after. As we waited for our waitress I was taking pictures of my two friends against the beautiful backdrop of the ocean. The waitress comes by and asked if she could take a picture of all of us. As she was holding the camera up she stops and tells my friend she's not going to take the picture until she stops making that "ridiculous sexy pose" (she was leaning into our friend and smiling). We were all shocked. We order dinner and because we were running late we ordered dessert as we were still eating. The waitress told me that I'm inconsiderate or order dessert while people were still eating. The alarm goes off in the hotel and we are asked to leave the building. 45 minutes pass and we have to go to our next event. We return later that night to find out the restaurant had charged my credit card the hotel had on file (unauthorized) for our meal including items we had ordered but never received due to the alarm. I brought the bill to the manager and had to ARGUE with her to take off food items we did not even see. She then proceeded to ask us to give her a percent of each entree that was eaten so she could take off a percent of each plate. I told her I did not remember how many French fries I ate but that the only food I completed was my pre-dinner salad. Unacceptable customer service. And the chicken was dry. This restaurant is delicious. The staff are incredibly warm, and helpful. My partner and I enjoyed huge lobster rolls and local brews our first evening at Cliff House. I ordered the vegetable hash because it sounded like a beautiful dream that you wake up in the middle of and can taste AND you could add the lobstah on top. It came out and looked like perfection! 2 poached eggs on top of an assortment of vegetables with as much lobstah as there are lighthouses in the state of Maine. The hollandaise was creamy but not overwhelming. Vegetables tasted fresh. And the lobstah...unbelievable. With every bite I put my fork down because I wanted to savor this moment. The new hotel is absolutely stunning. The renovation was worth the wait! Rustic chic and perfect for Maine. You are right on the ocean with fantastic views of the rocky coast. We arrived at the hotel to check in and the staff was very friendly. Our room wasn't ready so we decided to try the restaurant. The man at the host table was very off putting from the start; no smile or welcoming greeting then he informed us that the dining room was closed between 2 and 4 which is fine but his attitude wasn't. We sat down in the bar area and ordered: -golden best salad: basic, solid but not special -mussels: fresh but bland. Absolutely no flavor to the broth. The bread could have been delicious but they skimped on grilling it properly -a lobster roll: meat was very fresh and the portion was generous. They serve a side of butter but it is sweetened and browned (fancy but butter is good on its own and doesn't need anything else) The waiter was very sweet and nice but definitely not a seasoned server. My husband and I went on Sunday for brunch in celebration of our wedding anniversary. The view was beautiful. Our waitress took our order, and we ordered a salad to share along with drinks to start. My husband ordered the poke bowl and since it was a special occasion, I ordered the lobster roll. We waited a long time for any food to arrive and the lobster roll in brown butter (warm dish) with French fries arrived first by a different server. I did not start eating because I expected my husband's meal to be delivered shortly. His meal was delivered 15 minutes later, by which time my meal was cold. Who wants to eat cold French Fries? The salad arrived with my husband's meal although we had asked for it to come before the entrees. When our waitress finally showed up again, I pointed out the issues and she said that she was going to speak with her manager. She returned without the manager, and we were charged full price for everything. I would have expected that the restaurant would have done something to make up for the bad experience. The disappointing meal put a damper on the celebration. I do not think that we will be going back. read more

Save your well earned money and choose ANY other restaurant in the beautiful Ogunquit region and hopefully you won't be as disappointed as we were last night . The menu is minimal so one would hope the quality should be top notch ( Gordon Ramsey's theory here goes out the window) I won't elaborate but just to say we had 2 cocktail ( must admit my cocktail was yummy, can't recall the name but it had rye and vermouth) and 2 entrees .. no app, no bread , no dessert , just 2 main courses. My date had the diver scallops which were tasty enough but over salted and served at room temp and I had the lamb shank served with different coloured carrots that were inedible! I sent them back to see if I could save on a dentist trip and the waitress returned with a side plate of crunchy undercooked carrots yet again .. needless to say there was no point in complaint Proof , as they say , is in the pudding ( carrots !) For such an upscale beautiful resort, you'd think that the service would follow suit. Unfortunately not so much. Our waitress greeted our table by complaining about the lack of support she was receiving that night from the bus staff. We had to ask for a bar menu 3x (from 3 different people) before getting it. Our food was just okay. Our waitress also referred to brunch as a "shitshow"...so I would suspect that this isn't a one-time occurrence unfortunately. Save yourself a headache and take an uber to downtown Ogunquit or Perkins Cove for a MUCH better experience. read more

I wavered between a 3 and a 4 for a good 20 minutes.. TILLER, you have so much potential, you gotta stop relying on that view and bring your A game. We have been here twice and... yes, it is hands down THE BEST view in Southern Maine that I have experienced thus far. That being said, Tiller has been inconsistent. The first time we went was in May 2018. We were totally blown away by the view, the ambiance, the renovations, everything. Our drinks arrived and we toasted while simultaneously watching as a picture perfect bride and groom took their wedding photos out on the cliff. Sounds pretty magical, right? It was. Our server was on point, she had tons of menu knowledge and her timing was impeccable. The food...didn't change my life and for the price, it caused a mild cringe...but the service and ambiance made up for it. It was truly an amazing experience. We went again just last week and...woah. WHAT HAPPENED?! The menus were stained, ripped, and looked like they went through the entire summer and fall without being switched out. Our server was nice, but clearly overwhelmed and had a hard time keeping up with his tables. My partners soda took 30 minutes, after our cocktails from the bar... yikes. There was a woman who looked like a manager, who was helpful and picked up where our guy left off, but it was clear they were maybe a little understaffed for the Holiday weekend; which tourist towns are notorious for getting hit when it comes to staffing after summer ends and school begins. So I tried to keep an open mind service-wise. The food was again just decent, I got the burger, ordered medium rare, but was clearly kept on the grill a little too long, and fruit that was nice and fresh-so that was a plus. Everyone in our party just kind of agreed that it was good but not amazing, and what made the experience was our table overlooking the Maine coast. Will I go back...yes because the first time was incredible...and there are a lot of factors to consider (we went the day after thanksgiving, understaffed, but pleasant staff, etc.,). Dinner at Tiller Wednesday night. My wife had the lazy 1 1/2 lb lobster. The meat from the lobster fit in a ramekin bowl. For $57! Disappointing. My salmon was Meh. The ambience is not good. The Maitre'D had many rules, stand here, don't sit there, if you sit at the bar you must eat. I never experienced so many unhappy people at one restaurant. Lobster rice and oysters on the half shell were delicious. Muscles were slightly undercooked so we did not eat them all. Server was pleasant, as were bus staff. But they forgot to bring us bread until the middle of our meal, after we asked for some. Lobster roll earlier in the day in the lounge area was good. 12/25-4:30pmHostess Juanita told us we could not take the table in the bar area we had yesterday for lunch, saying it was reserved. However, other staff told us it was not reserved until later that night, but that it was a dinner menu. We dined in the dining room last night for dinner, but Juanita perhaps didn't care/recall/was having a bad day and didn't care to offer us a dinner menu? She then gave the bar area table away to another couple that had no reservations and came in after us. Not at all close to two star service from Juanita. Our waitress was pleasant but forgot knife and fork. We had to ask for it. Overall, we will not dine or stay here again--not the level of service to be expected at all. Room service trays that we placed outside our door this morning are still not cleared 12 hours later. The level of service and some of the food at The Tiller restaurant was one star at best. Where do I begin? I came here three times. First time was 07/09, we asked for a window seat and was told nothing was available for 2 people that they only had tables for 4 or more but the window and that all the tables in the restaurant had a great view. That was fine it is a beautiful view and totally accurate. However, we were sat at a table for 4 with just two of us, and there were only two other tables seated on a Sunday night. Not one other table came in, our server was lovely very informative and was super nice. The food and drinks were outstanding. Since our experience was great we decided to return. On 7/30 we returned and it was a busier evening. We were sat at a nice booth although the resultant not full everyone seemed busy . I've worked in the restaurant business so I get it with short staff and what not. However we ordered our food and drinks drinks about 20 minutes , which again I get things happen when short staffed so we were totally fine. e other waiters and waitresses seemed not to know the table numbers as food seemed to circle numerous times before finding its rightful owner. Then our appetizers came out no side plates were given, we asked to split the Caesar salad which the previous time was outstanding and the chef or server split for us so nicely. However this time the lettuce didn't seem as fresh or as colorful as he previous time nor was it split. Finally after 20 minutes we got a side plate to share. Then our food came out, well one dish my boyfriends steak and one side we ordered. The waitress said she would get our other plate. About 10 minutes later she came out with a side plate, we then asked were my dish and other side was she then looked through her order and said oh no I'll be right back. Another 10 minutes have gone by and she stated that she messed up the order and she apologized. She never got the manager or anything, by the time my food arrived it was dry and not exactly edible. The side dish came out and was fine at this point my boyfriends food was cold since he sat there about 25 minutes waiting for me. The manager just came to check on us and I stated everything was okay she could tell by my face it was far from it and she asked what went wrong. I explained everything she took my dish and said they'd remake it at this point I said I was all set. We ordered dessert which was good. We took my boyfriends meal to go and the sides. The manager did take off my boyfriends meal and my meal even though I never got one to go like she said. Considering our entire experience was ruined and the situation was handled poorly by the server at the first mistake you should have your boss handle and try to help not let the guest sit there for 30 minutes without knowing what is going on. As we were leaving we realized we weren't the only table with a bad experience many other tables complained and I get awful because I never do but it was just that bad. Take 3 we decide to try it one last time for breakfast because it is so beautiful and we stayed at the hotel. We were quickly seated not one person came over to us. After about 10-15 minutes we were greeted by the manager who asked what he could get us. He managed to take our order and get us settled which was fine and he was polite. I only requested water which he brought over in a timely manner however I immediately realized the bottle was dirty with food but assumed it was just the outside. After he left I wiped the bottle it was on the outside along with mold and soap from the Dishwasher. No one came back to check on us. Our food took about 35 minutes which was fine but We saw our food circle the restaurant 3x until after 10 minutes of Circling made it to us my boyfriends was delicious mine was good but was missing the hollandaise sauce. Again no one checked to see how we were or anything. We didn't say anything because we're not complainers. It's unfortunate that this place is beautiful and has such poor service. It seems as though it was rushed to open on time before having proper staff and training. I contacted the team for our wedding because it's been my dream since growing up to get married here. But after the experience looks like we'll keep looking. The hotel staff was nice although the directions to elevators is unclear perhaps a better map should be handed out to help. read more

If you are staying at the Cliff House to begin with, you can splurge for a little bit to have at least one meal there - yes, that items are pricey but it's definitely worth going. Located at the spectacular cliff house resort/hotel. Immediately on the ocean (hence the name cliff house). The restaurant is beautifully decorated and has amazing views I was there for a business dinner with 12 people on a Thursday night. They have a really good selection of wine and specialty cocktails/beer. It's high end and I personally wouldn't bring small children unless they were exceptionally well behaved and maybe for breakfast or lunch only. The service was very good. The staff was very helpful and accommodating. I had the cod and it was a very generous portion and prepared very well. Others in my party got the duck,scallops, salads and everyone loved the food! This restaurant is very pricey but worth the money. A special night out for sure. I had a house special after dinner drink called bourbon delight. Oh yeah baby this is one nice drink! Maybe that's why the old bartender didn't acknowledge my presence for 20 minutes and instead talked to his buddy sitting two chairs down from me instead. Say with an empty glass for 10 minutes and had to wave my card at him to finally get the bill. Wish I could like this bar more but the service from this older bartender was awful. read more

Good and service are great - staff is attentive HOWEVER- unfortunately they list Pappy Van Winkle on their refreshments list. A 10 and 12 year BUT what they have is Rip Van Winkle --- Not the same! They had no price for the Rip (not listed - see attached) which should be in the $35 -$37 range but had no idea. They seemed willing to take the listed $200 for pappy though ... odd and very misleading. Would have gladly paid for the Rip fair market but they seem to have been caught red handed.... weird! I'm torn here as I really have 2 reviews as both dinner and then breakfast was experienced. Let's start with dinner. If you have some money to burn and enjoy dramatic ocean views then you are already winning. The menu is eclectic and fairly pretentious, local this and that. My lobster, corn chowder was hot and tasty, the fried Brussels sprouts fantastic. Dessert was a chocolate soufflé, which was meh and if you do order this the kitchen needs 22 minutes, 22. The bar is beautiful, and our bartender made decent drinks, a couple of manhattans. Again $$$. Breakfast was also quite expensive. Same lovely ocean views but now it's daylight. We both ordered eggs Benedict, I was very specific about my eggs because I'm a princess. First time wrong, second time wrong, and then the waiter vanished and I had to find him for the check. He was over me. I would not have breakfast here again, it's just too much money for the quality of the food. Ps. My husband said "mine is good" so.... I stayed here with my husband for a quick getaway. While the hotel was very nice, we found this restaurant to be mediocre and underwhelming especially for the prices we paid. Went here because it is in the resort we are staying in. We got Diane as a waitress and she was awesome! Very nice, told us her recommendations which was helpful, and just had a great personality! I got the lobster chowder as an ap, got the scallops as an entree, and the ice cream sandwich for desert. All were unbelievable, especially the ice cream sandwich. The only downside is that it is in a hotel so the prices were very high. Our bill was over $300 for a family of 4! I would definitely go here again, and don't forget to request Diane! read more

The previous reviews on this place did not do it justice. For a hotel restaurant we were very impressed and we loved the food!! Great seafood as well as red meats and poultry. The appetizers were also delicious, especially the mussels which were very flavorful and the broth with them was exceptional. Went to Tiller to have a drink while exploring the cliff house property and was glad we stopped in.We sat at the bar presuming we would just have drinks and enjoy the great view but after looking at the food go by we decided to eat. Waitress barley spoke english and couldn't answer any of the questions on the menu! Even worse once the food was brought to the table (not by her) she never came back! Food was mediocre as well. You would think that in a beautiful, high end establishment the food would be excellent but it's average. We had reservations on Fathers day. Drove up from Mass. 10 in our party.The views and the resort are stunning. However the service was horrible. It took us over an hour to get our food.Even the salad app took 40 minutes. The restaurant was not even that crowed. The food was good but 3 people got lobster rolls and each had different amounts of meat from sparse to a lot. When we brought it to the waiters attention he did bring out more lobster meat for the ones that were lacking but this took forever as well. Not sure if the waiter was new but he was never around.
