Was there tonight in a party of 9, with reservations made a month ago. It was 45 minutes before my water glass was filled, it was 70 minutes before most of us got drinks. One in our party did not get her first drink until 90 minutes in. This was after we got up twice and asked the server and bartender if we could please get drinks. If they make money on serving alcohol, they sure don't act like it. We were here for a good time and they left money on the table. The food was good, but good food is available all over Media, PA. This was my third visit to Idlewild, the outdoor area of the Media Towne House, and it seems the food has not improved. During the first visit with friends, several of us had the impossible burger which I liked but they had to send back for not being cooked enough. The second visit, I had the fish tacos which were ok, but this visit I had the lobster roll. To call it a lobster roll is a lie because I didn't see any lobster in this lobster roll. Basically it was a $24 roll with some celery and their secret sauce which seemed to have blue cheese in it? Despite the mediocre food, the outdoor space is a great place to hang out and our server was terrific. However, on this visit, just as we received our entrees, the 2-person band started. We couldn't hear each other and speaking with our server was close to impossible. At times it seemed almost comical. Were we at an outdoor concert? My ears are still ringing. Please TURN DOWN THE VOLUME. Even our server was apologetic, but it seemed like there was nothing either of us could do. At this point, unless things change, three strikes and you're out. All of the drinks were good as well. The service was relatively quick and we were able to be moved to sit outside even though our reservation was made for indoor seating. I've lived in Delaware County all my life but have never been to the Town House until last night. My daughter made reservations to dine at the Shebeen room to celebrate my 81st birthday. When we arrived at the building, the receptionist informed us that the Shebeen was having a private event so we couldn't be seated there. It's a shame that the person who took the reservation didn't know who previously reserved what and for when. There were a few tables at the main bar area (whatever it's called), so accepted that. The noise level in that area was so loud, that we couldn't carry on a conversation. Our server said that most of the people at the bar would be going upstairs for a bridal shower and it would get quieter. As time went on, it got even louder since a Phils game was on all the TV's. My daughter chose the Town House for my birthday since they had oysters on the menu and some other dishes that sounded good. When the oysters came, we felt sorry for them. They were about the size of a dime. They were so small that they should have been tossed back into the water to be with their mommies. At $18 per half dozen, I should have sent them back, but I wanted to enjoy the evening and not let things ruin my special day. If the oysters were running small, maybe we should have been told so. As I looked around where we were seated, I noticed very sloppy caulking that was used to fill cracks in the walls to keep out cold air. Whoever did that work sure didn't do a good job at trimming off the excess when it dried. So, we had to stare at that as we ate. On a positive note, the food wasn't too bad. I had the beef Wellington which was very tasty. At the very end of the meal, our server asked, "Is it someone's birthday?" After saying "Yes, it's mine," she placed a very small slice of chocolate cake in front of me with a candle on it. Although it was a nice gesture, what about the other three people with me? This place is a joke, expensive prices for mediocre food. They took over one of the most famous places in Media and although the aesthetics are on point, the service and food do not match. I've had multiple visits there and not one did I walk away with satisfied. Also blows my mind that they charge a $10 cover to get in with no band playing or any reason to charge it besides the fact that they can. If you're looking for a nice dining experience this is not the place. The manager will also argue with you when you want to give feedback on your horrible experience. We have gone to the Towne House several times over the last few years. We love the atmosphere and the bartenders and servers are great. We always have a good time. However, the food is usually not good. I don't like to give negative reviews. I also don't want to see the Towne House fail. The drinks and usually appetizers are good. As a recent example there were 6 of us. I had a chicken waffle and the chicken was so cooked it was not edible. One other had an omelet and said it was not good. Another had an avocado sandwich and said there was no taste. We will continue to go there for drinks and appetizers but will find another place to eat. read more

I'm rating The Towne House's Sunday Brunch because it's all I've had the pleasure to enjoy! They serve a menu brunch with a nice selection of entrees but what I'm going to recommend is the chicken & waffles with a side of bacon that you put right on top with an extra side of maple syrup! I know, that's a lot of calories but call it a cheat day & live a little! The waffle is dynamite & the chicken breast is perfectly seasoned & cut to cover the waffle! It was a beautiful Friday evening and I wanted to eat outside somewhere. Idlewild doesn't take reservations, it's first come but we got seated right away. Both inside and outside had a nice ambiance and we would definitely return to patron one of the inside areas. Drinks: I tried 3 diff cocktails. The passion drink was okay. The strawberry drink was strong but too bitter for me. The espresso martini was a 10/10 and best one I've ever had. Apps: Cheese curds. Amazing 10/10 came with great sauces a fig one and a horseradish. 10/10 French onion soup. BUT it took over an hour for them to come out. Our waiter noticed and gave us a free round of drinks so A+ service. Entree: Chicken cheesesteak hoagie and it was gone in a flash so I guess it was good. I got the Reuben sandwich and it was piled so high with meat that I could only eat half. Both came with a side, my husband got fries I got the salad and the house vinaigrette was so good. Would definitely go again. If I'm going for happy hour, I would recommend the bar outside at idlewild (they also do brunch!) but if im going for dinner I would probably get a table inside. Really good experience eating here. Came here for brunch. We were able to do outdoor dining besides it being a little cold because they have an outdoor patio with heaters. The wait staff were nice and the food came out really quick. We ordered French toast and home fries. French toast had apples and a sauce on top and was really tasty. Home fries were good although I prefer mines to have onions and peppers. They also had a nice drink menu although we didn't order any drinks. Really not sure where to start. The menu is inaccurate. My companion ordered the Panko chicken strips. They were $12 or $14, and in the past, delicious and worth it. When the chicken arrived, he was confused and disappointed. I am very familiar with food and I could tell that they were frozen, basic chicken fingers. We inquired about the product, and we're informed that we did not specify Panko. When I pressed to know if the product were frozen chicken fingers, the man informed us that yes, they were. Wow! They should be ashamed of this bait and switch. Very low quality, frozen product, served instead of homemade product advertised on menu. Sat outside at Idlewild on a hot Monday evening. Service was friendly and prompt - not many patrons since it was Monday and hot out. Ordered the mussels in a white sauce with toast tips. Usually, my favorite part of eating mussels is sopping up the sauce - well, there was no sauce - it was simply the hot water the mussels were boiled in. I order a lot of mussels when I go out and have never had such tasteless sauce. What a waste of bread. Come on chef! learn how to flavor your mussels. read more
