Me and my buddy ate there today and have to say it was one of the best supper club experiences we have had. I ordered the NY strip with blue cheese butter and my buddy ordered the Union Steak. Everything was perfect and the real surprise was the mushroom soup and side of mushrooms - the best I have ever had. Made a Saturday night dinner reservation and arrived early. Enjoyed a drink in in the bar and they seated us right around our time. Of course you get a relish tray which was fresh. Loved the sweet peppers the most. The entrees were timed just right and the food was delicious. Wife had the tenderloin done medium well and it was still juicy and very flavorful. I had the pan fried walleye and it was among the best I've had. Lightly floured and done to perfection, the large filet was so good with just a squeeze of lemon. Baked potato comes with sour cream FYI, and the broccoli was delicious. Wife had a grasshopper as a birthday treat and she loved it. Service was excellent, there when we needed something but not intrusive. Shout out to Allie, our service for making it an enjoyable evening. Went on a Thursday evening and made the reservation same day. We arrived a little early and they were able to accommodate us. Service was good. Food (walleye and chicken) prep and presentation was very simple but seemingly fresh, cooked well, and good tasting. Not sure if they had any seasonal offerings, we weren't walked through the menu to learn about specialties or customer favorites, and that would have been a nice touch. Wish they have more wine options - Mezzacorona and 2 other white wine options- doesn't really compliment the level of quality on the food side. Really surprised they don't invest more here. Didn't look at the red wines, they may be more interesting. On the positive side, I think all but one were less than $10/ glass, so my disappointment was reasonably priced at least. Pecan pie a la mode for dessert was delicious. My extended family has been going to this restaurant for decades, I remember playing by the fountain outside (it is gone now) of this building as a child. However, I had never dined here before, at this historic building, in my home town of DePere. My girlfriend and I were trying to decide on trying a new place to eat and "The Union" popped into my head, so we gave it a whirl. We just showed up, didn't think of getting a reservation, got on the list and went inside. We really liked the area where you meet the host or hostess, neat little room. This place is hopping! We had about an hour wait, which was fine, as they have a bar area with some tables to get drinks and chat. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It was a cozy room and the bar tenders were really cordial and attentive.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I scanned the crowd for recognizable faces from the past but got nothing, which was fine, it was fun to look. [[HIGHLIGHT]]We requested a couple drinks and sat at the meticulously clean bar.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] This establishment felt familiar and comfortable to us both immediately. Both our families had lived in this area in the past, we had our own historical roots here. She REALLY enjoyed the white Zinfandel and I was quite pleased with my libation as well. Our waiting time passed quickly with conversation and we were led to a room to dine. They had a vegetable and bread plate with various spreads to enjoy, while we looked through the menu. We loved that. The in-house little breads were delicious as were the three spreads. She ordered a steak and I got the perch. The steak was seasoned and cooked to perfection (I tried a piece, of course). My dish was delicious as well. Perch is so good when it is cooked properly and this was. Our waiter was very helpful and knowledgeable. As it was our first time there, he had happily answered all our queries. We were both satisfied and happy. We talked and laughed the night away. I've never had a steak with more fat on it! when the server came back I showed her all the fat I had cut off (1/2 the steak) she replied that's why we gave you a bigger piece. Also 5 minutes after we paid our bill the manager came over and told us our time was up, he needed the table (No one was waiting!). we had been there a total of 80 minute. we will never go back. My husband and I have one cheat meal a week. Last week we chose this wonderful place. A very cool classic charming bar, such sweet and helpful staff, the wonder was the the handsome fellow to greet us once we figured out the correct door . OMG! First time on 8/18/22, but can't wait to go again. We decided to visit the bar first for cocktails. Lots of atmosphere with a curved bar and a great back bar, dark wood & mirrors and great martinis. The dining room was a lovely room with old world ambiance. Our waitress was friendly and attentive, we were served a relish tray which had delicious toasts & pates as well as nice assortment of crisp veggis. They have Kendall Jackson Chardonnay on menu so we were very happy. I ordered the scallops, I cannot describe how delicious they were, just perfection. Husband had the halibut and declared it best ever. We will make this a stop whenever we visit family in Green Bay. read more

What's not to love about a restaurant that continues with the WI Supper Club tradition. The bar is charming and the cocktails are spot on. The dining room is very historic so don't think about a dark steak house settings. You start with a traditional relish tray with cheese, ham spread. and liver paste. In addition to great little bread rolls you get carrots, celery and hot peppers. The steaks are some of the best I have had. They are simply seasoned and cooked just right. Don't get me started with the service. It is all just top notch. I commend the owner, McKim, for being there and making sure everything is spot on. The Union Hotel is my all time favorite restaurant to eat at in Green Bay. Their food is delicious, the service is excellent and the atmosphere is relaxing. The scallops are the best that I've ever eaten and the little extras like their relish tray and fresh baked rolls are greatly appreciated and enjoyed by us. And during the height of the pandemic they provided delicious meals to pick up and enjoy at home. Once indoor dining was available, they provided a safe and relaxing atmosphere for us to enjoy our dinner. One more thing, the strawberry sham torte is to die for and is my favorite dessert. Old school supper club and one that's probably on many lists. You sort of walk into the hotel lobby and check in - bar is just through the door. Gorgeous bar with lots of character (and characters). Perfectly made cocktails start the evening off. Seated and the relish tray (some people freak at supper clubs if there isn't one) has lots of stuff. Big menu - went with the walleye that was very nice. All of the food that came by looked great, Service was excellent and very attentive. This is a must in the area. Great evening and experience. Had dinner at the Union Hotel this past weekend. I used to live in Wisconsin, but retired to AZ. Still travel back to see the Packers and area family. Most of the traditional supper clubs like Eve's and Wally's are gone, but thank goodness this one remains. Old school class, and first class service, from the bar to the wait staff. Nice selection of seafood. Our table had Walleye, Halibut, and an 18-20 oz lobster tail that rivals any 5-star restaurant in Scottsdale. Ribeye and Fillet, hand-cut in-house, were also great. Wine list had nice selections at better than reasonable prices. As good as the food was, the ambiance and atmosphere was better. Nice to finish the evening off back at the bar with a perfect Old Fashioned or a Highland single malt. If you are in the Green Bay/DePere area, and miss dinner here, you've made a mistake. read more

I could picture being in the dining room in 1920 having the same meal. First of all, we had 5 star service for my wife's and my anniversary. The professional attentiveness was spot on. My medium rare aged porterhouse was to die for. Even some high end places are seasoning steaks generously and it was refreshing to have the steak, and its grandeur, speak for itself. It was modestly and perfectly seasoned and I thoroughly enjoyed it. My mind was blown by the exquisite in house made appetizers. My wife loved a ham dish but the pate had me completely happy. Pecan pie is always something I enjoy but I generally only eat it when its part of a buffet or if its a family meal desert but something made me request it and all I can say is its special and amazing. The pecan pie was off the chart and maybe what brings me back sooner than later and more often than not. read more

Wet aged (14-16 days, in house) steaks, pan fried walleye, variety of fish entrees included perch. Vibe: Subdued, historic, peaceful. Average age 60 plus. Historic hotel over 100 years old, in family (present owner a former high school math and computer programming teacher who absolutely loves running this place and whose mission is making the wine list the premier, the creme de la creme, of wine selections in the area) for 95 years. Volume: Low. Decor: Per the owner "arts and crafts from 1930's". The bar has subdued lighting, very old feel to it. Dining room with Naugehyde booths, wall sconces, wall paper, high ceilings. Second dining room with tables, historic pictures on the walls. Another Yelper stated the Union Hotel was Vince Lombardi's favorite restaurant and he could rise from the dead and feel totally at home here. I agree. It has sort of a 60's classic supper club feel to it. Very cool atmosphere. Warm, cozy ambiance. Service: Excellent. When you arrive, you sit at the bar, order your drinks and are assigned a waiter/waitress. The waitstaff then gives you a menu, ultimately takes your order, and assigns you a table or booth. You then move to the dining room where a relish tray (lots of super fresh and crunchy carrot sticks, celery, and peppers, accompanied by liver pate, ham salad and cheese spread), bread basket (variety of fresh baked rolls) and crackers await at your table. Both the bartender and the waitress were excellent. The owner was beyond excellent, talked to me at length about the restaurant, the steaks, the wines. Drinks: Half bottle 2003 Chateau Montelena (go "Bottle Shock") Cabernet Sauvignon $48.50. Incredible wine list, over 300 different wines, priced economy to luxurious, but all very reasonably priced. Some of the wines here are cheaper than what you can buy them on the internet, if you can buy them at all. Wine cellar with over 2000 bottles. Over 50 half bottle selections. By far the best selection of wine in the area. Mission accomplished. Food: Meyer Natural Angus (Loveland, CO) prime filet mignon cooked to perfection, so tender it could be cut with a fork. Very distinctive flavor. Accompanied by home made "tater tots", which were actually not the breaded deep fat grease bombs most places serve, but rather shredded potatoes fried but not greasy. Fresh salad with French Roquefort dressing. Dessert was a French silk (chocolate) pie with whipped cream- decadent. Total: $93.90 Given the ingredients (on Meyer's website, the smallest (5 ounce) filet mignon costs $28, before shipping), the level of dining, and the fact that the wine was over 50% of this bill, I consider this reasonable. Overall: Highly recommend for a "splurge" dinner. The only reason I rated this four rather than five stars is the lack of anything on the menu vegetarian friendly. I really think in 2012 it is incumbent upon fine dining establishments to provide at least one healthy, whole food, plant based choice in addition to the classics. A restaurant this good, with a wine list this extensive really needs to cater to a larger group. read more

I stayed at the Union Hotel at the end of September, when I came home for my brother's wedding. I grew up in Green Bay, and while I'd never been in the hotel before, I remembered it from when I was a kid. I had always wanted to stay there, and this time I got my chance. First off, McKim is the owner and he's fantastic. They don't have a website and don't take online reservations, so you will have the pleasure of talking to him on the phone when you book your room. He's warm, funny and gracious, plus the hotel has been in his family for generations! Delta lost one of our bags and he stayed up til 11:00 to receive the bag and then personally dropped it off at our door. There are very few staff, so everything has a personal touch. Second, the price was so right! We chose the larger room, with an attached sitting room and in-suite bath (some rooms have a bath down the hall. I poked around a bit and saw the shared baths. They were impeccably clean and well stocked.) It was $89 a night, which is way less than something like the Hyatt, and comparable to a less nice hotel, like a Days Inn. With taxes it came to $308. Third, the room was great. It was nice to have the extra space so we didn't feel on top of each other. The bed was very comfortable, the carpet looked brand new and the bathroom was clean and well stocked. There were also beautiful pieces of antique furniture including wing-backed chairs, a bureau, a wardrobe to hang things, a dresser, a side table, night stands, etc. The hotel is over 100 years old, so everything is oozing with character. The fixtures, furniture and wallpaper all look original. There is a restaurant downstairs that serves classic supper club fare, like pork chops and steaks. The attached bar looks straight out of the 1950's with beautiful wood details, booths and a great U shaped bar. We didn't make it for dinner, but we had a couple of drinks in the bar. They have tons of local brews on tap and a good selection of liquors. McKim was there, along with a great bartender and some locals. We chatted with folks, sipped our drinks and enjoyed how disarmingly nice everyone was. Five stars for sure, we will definitely be back! read more

Impressive! This family owned business is a must see for people who like some history with their food! I believe this hotel - restaurant - bar was built in the late 1800's and it still has that old time charm. You really feel like you are walking back in time when you enter. The first room has a old hotel check-in desk, with the slots for keys and mail for each hotel room. The door to the right takes you into the bar which is all made of dark wood and also has a few tables to enjoy your beverage. The other door leads to a sitting room which I could imagine was a place for guest to meet at one time. Eventually you will enter one of the dinning areas which is as nostalgic as every other part of the business. White tablecloths with complete table settings await as you are seated. Service was excellent, both attentive and friendly. We where there for lunch so each of us had either a sandwich or one if the many dinners that were on the menu. All of us loved our meals which included either soup or a salad all for about $10. We would go back again in a heartbeat! read more

Wow, this place rocks. I took a New York friend who is very particular about his food to the Union Hotel. I figured this might be the only restaurant that has good food and good culture. It didn't fail me. My friend enjoyed both the food and the ambiance. I ordered the tenderloin steak (medium) and he ordered porterhouse steak (medium rare). I loved mine, it is super juicy and I just couldn't stop eating. My friend enjoyed his steak too, it was a little overcooked, almost medium, but acceptable. Last time I was here I ordered the salmon, it was yummy too. Can't believe Green Bay has this kind of restaurant. It was one of the best steakhouse I ever been to. read more
