We initially had a little trouble placing our Thanksgiving order by phone. However, after sending email, the General Manager - Anthony Messina quickly responded and got everything squared away. We ate lunch at the restaurant on Wednesday as we needed to pick up our Thanksgiving order anyway. Anthony came out and introduced himself. He apologized for our Thanksgiving meal ordering trouble and to ensure our experience in the restaurant was great. I like The Union Kitchen as I've been for brunch at the other locations in the city. They have an extensive menu, so everyone at your table are bound to find something that suits their tastes. I specifically like The Union Kitchen for brunch as they have many great options! I ordered the Breakfast Boost Bowl this time and while it wasn't bad, it could use more flavor as it was a bit bland. The fried chicken and waffles or chicken fried steak are delicious here though. This location is at Towne Lake Boardwalk, so the outdoor seating would be lovely on a nice day! read more

Food - not hot, not good. I had ravioli with short ribs and what I got was gummy Kroger-grade ravioli with bbq all over the top. Yuck. And 3 cold stale onion rings. One daughter asked for filet medallions rare they were well done. She ordered a replacement dish and it too was over cooked. The waiter even guessed the first plate was not right but they did not comp it. Husband had grilled cheese with bacon jam. There was no bacon jam no aioli and hardly any cheese. Even the fries were not hot. My mom asked for an extra side of the jalapeño cheese grits but these were definitely a day old or more. They were hard as a rock and not hot. When we got the appetizer I knew it was going to be bad because the tuna tartare was in one giant piece, not the little cubes that make this dish fun to share. Uhoh! I shoulda known this kitchen was very inexperienced or did not care. There were only 2 other tables and I saw four plates go back to the kitchen from the other tables. I also asked about the wine and was referred to the manager since waiter didn't know. Manager admitted she hadn't tried them. The motto says " good food good friends good wine " so I kinda thought they could discuss the wine list. Guess not. At the end we got fruit pizza which was like eating mint cardboard with canned mandarin oranges. Epic. :( I will say the beignet were good. My mom loved her scallops. Service - ok. Friendly but how many times do we have to ask for water? Sheesh. Only 2 other total tables in the whole restaurant... Forgot to bring cream for coffee. Forgot to turn in the sides we ordered. Spicy chicken burger on the lunch menu with house made chips. The chips, what few that were not burnt, were good. The menu stated there were a number of spices and a sauce. I thought I was getting a chicken breast topped with the spices and sauce, but it had bacon, lettuce and tomato. Nothing could have made this ground chicken burger better. My son had the Caribbean fish tacos. One part of the fish was very thin, a skimpy fish taco. It needed some type of sauce. There wasn't enough fish to make the taco good. I have been to this restaurant a number of times, and at best, it was just OK. I'm done! It was Veterans Day and my husband did get a free burger. That was the only positive I have to say about this restaurant. Perhaps we got food preparers in training, sad. Waitress was OK, ambiance was nice. We were able to set outside on a beautiful day. I've been eating at UK in Townelake for 4 years and have always loved the food..UNTIL.. We called in an order to-go on Thursday. I originally asked for the Shrimp Burger but it was not available so the manager suggested the po boy. When my husband brought our lunch home, I was stunned at the "shrimp" to bread ratio. There were, (and I counted the tiny little crustaceans who should have still been under the care of their mother) 8 total "shrimp", lying inside 2 halves of Titanic sized French bread. Now, to be fair there were 2 large slices of tomato and some shredded lettuce, so the $20 price tag on this magnificent "shrimp" was clearly justifiable, right? Add to this culinary masterpiece, a bowl of Tomato Basil soup, which was essentially tomato paste with 3 strips of chopped basil. The acidic content of this Chernobyl-isqe disaster could have nuked the entire state of Texas! I dont know who was cooking that day, but I will not be back! What a disappointment read more

It was a gorgeous Sunday morning and we couldn't resist grabbing brunch on the patio. The outdoor seating had such a welcoming vibe - friendly chatter in the air, sunlight peeking through the leaves, and a nice cool breeze. From the start, our server Dessalyn was absolutely wonderful. She had a big smile on her face and was genuinely happy to see us. Dessalyn was super quick with our drinks and food. Our mimosas arrived almost as soon as we ordered them, and she always kept our cups full. Even on that sunny morning, she noticed the bright sun and quickly moved us to a shaded spot so we stayed cool and comfortable. 4 stars for the lake view. It's a really nice seating area outside, with plenty of room and fans, and of course it's on the lake. We went there for breakfast and got the garden omelet and the fajita omelet. Both were pretty solid, a little lack of seasoning and the fajita omelet had basically 5 small cubes of steak in it. We also got the donut holes, and those were really good, coated in cinnamon and Nutella, with 2 types of dips. The service was alright, but I will forever be mad that I was charged $3 dollars because I asked for toast, and I got a singular piece of toast, a singular slightly burnt piece of toast. Overall, would I come back for breakfast... probably not But I will come back for lunch/dinner, hopefully that will be better. read more

Took my fiancé here for Mother's Day with our 1 year old. They accommodated us with a high chair and greeted us at the door enthusiastically. The staff was extremely nice and outgoing several managers spoke to use as well, but personally the ambiance of the restaurant was dull. The environment would be my only negative comment because the FOOD......WAS GREAT! I had the chicken & waffle concoction I was weary of it being a lot of food at first. Not a complain of anything we experienced save one. I removed 1 star because it's pretty limited seating choices for someone who uses a walker or wheels handicapped people. The biggest problem was that the tables were so close together my dads walker couldn't get thru if he needed to use the restroom. He didn't need to do so, but if he had, tables would have needed to be moved. A little thought towards those with walking limitations would have made it more enjoyable. We loved the staff. read more

Two years later and this place has vastly improved. I'm not sure if it is because it was lunch time Vs dinner or just needed time to settle in, but I enjoyed my lunch today! Also, had a really great waitress. Didn't catch her name, but she was training someone. She was friendly, fast, and had a good vibe. We order the crab tower, which came with friend wonton chips. I could have eaten this as my meal. It was a good size and nice presentation. I had the lunch chicken burger- chicken patty, cheese, bacon, lettuce, tomato and onions. I swapped out the chips for french fries. It was really juicy and full of flavor. They definitely improved this burger from last time! My friend got a Greek wrap that she said she always orders. It is on the lite menu and it looked really good. Portions are big on the sandwiches, burgers, wraps from what I could see from all the other tables. The food was amazing, Beignets came out hot and perfect, The Crab Cake Benedict was Delicious and honestly my favorite and the Lobster omelette was outstanding. A lot of it didn't have enough flavor for me. I liked the steak burrito, but added a bit of cajun hot sauce to it. I had my breakfast potatoes crisped with peppers, onions, and cheese. Doing it that way saved it, I highly recommend it. The deviled eggs were okay. My partner had the breakfast boost bowl. It was definitely a healthy option he was looking for, but he did add a bit of salt, pepper, and cajun sauce. A friend and I really wanted to eat at a place on the boardwalk by the water and so we randomly chose The Union Kitchen, it was the best food choice we made all week. The menu is intense, Nelson our server, was excellent, and well versed on all the options. The food came out quickly, and was delicious! Laura was the manager on duty and she was so kind and attentive, we finished the night off with their beignets, that were reminiscent to Cafe Du Monde's legendary treat. Over all an amazing experience, we wanted to go back tonight, they were going to even save our table for us, unfortunately we've been invited to a conference event this evening, and cannot go, sooo sorry Nelson and Laura, but we hope to see you both again on our next visit to Houston!! read more

Came to check this place out after a friend referred it to us. Walked in and it's a very nice location, great set up, gives a classy and more upscale vibe. Our waiter was great, he was very attentive. We started with cappuccinos and the million dollar deviled eggs. The cappuccinos were on point! Would've been better with raw sugar but still delicious. I personally liked the deviled eggs but my lady wasn't too big of a fan. I ordered the Elvis waffle. Be prepared. It's a TON of waffles to eat. I think there were 8 huge quarters and I was only able to finish two of them. Did not expect how sweet they would be. Delicious if you're going for the sweet tooth. I will most likely order something else the next time and then update the review. But again, all around great service. I'd recommend to stop in if you're looking for a some good eats. I would have liked it if the sandwich was like the picture on yelp. The brioche was very tasty but also very thick so it appeared to be a big sandwich. The meat was almost not visable. One shaved slice of ham and one of turkey. It was like the HEB packaged shaved lunchmeat. Basically, a bread sandwich. I think the brioche was grilled but not dipped in egg first.
