I shouldn't have reviewed til the whole thing was over...... Long story short, my package was promised to be delivered within a month....it was a special curltural item donated to the event for our US Navy guys in Korea......I couldn't send it APO cause had to drive quite far.....so I opted for UPS..... Ava the Owner/Manager was quite helpful but gave me the wrong info. On everything,, the package took more than 3 months to receive, she couldn't get any details and had promised me a full refund...... The cultural event was over, so no point in receiving.....and this was the last term for the guy that knew how to use the item, it was a lion head, type they use at Chinese New Years......for lion dancing..... Then she was trying to get me my separate checks, one from her and the other from UPS to get my refund, well.....its been over a year and nothing but bullshit on the phone.................she said she mailed them last week, Alameda to Oakland, it has been 4 days.....yeah whatever..... I came in on Friday and snuck in before they closed. I was the last customer and I had a bunch of at boxes to ship. The person that helped me out was named Gagan you want him to help you! He was a hero on this day! He made sure to re-package my boxes that were worth $4500 so they would be protected on their shipment. Gagan was nice enough to make the boxes for me. Mind you it's Friday and getting close to an hour past the time of closing. A woman came in and was frantically looking for expensive jewelry she accidentally threw away. Gagan was nice enough to let her in and helped her find it! It was really nice of him to help me out and multiple other customers past closing. Terrible customer service if you have a problem they will not have any way to speak to a live person and your problem will not be responded too. They damaged a package I sent and they accepted responsibility but never processed the paperwork to refund the person. It's been close to a year now and they don't have a way to talk to a live person so I'm resorting to taking this to small claims courts to get them to respond and follow through. read more

The staff, when available are very nice and helpful, especially Ava. But there it ends. The store is often not opened on time. I mean hours after the posted time. My son was waiting today since 9:00am and had to leave at 10:18am to go to work. Still not open. The armored truck and FedEx trucks came and went because the business was not open. People are using PO drops for packages now because of thefts at home addresses or work places not wanting personal items delivered to the office. But it is a problem when the store won't open on time. Alameda has a college ,two terrific high schools or a semi-retiree. Hire some p.t. reliable help as a first job or retirement gig, pay them more than trading stamps so they will stick around. read more

STAY AWAY! DO NOT USE THIS STORE FOR YOUR MAIL SERVICE! They lose your mail, packages, they give you the wrong mail in your box on a regular basis. They do not care, they have straight up lied to me and they have NO IDEA what they are doing in that store! They are often CLOSED when they have open hours! After using this location for a year, I happened to mention they were closed during OPEN HOURS and the guy said, "oh well, you have a "Business Account" with us, so you can access your mail anytime with your "KEY". A "KEY" which I never received after being a customer for a year! They are LAZY, SLOPPY and don't care about your mail, packages or anything! read more

Great customer service especially in a time when there seems to be a shortage in workers everywhere! I called right as the store was about to close but I was 5-6 minutes away. Gagan told me to come in anyways and they'll help me out. I'm so used to people closing early or right on the dot, and the employees would be so upset if someone walked in a minute past closing time. I love this place. They're fast, efficient, and friendly. I typically use the store for dropping off Amazon or Zappo returns, but I've also used their notary service which was also efficient and fast. I've been to stores where you stand in line forever, but not the UPS Store on Blanding in Alameda. They've got it down. Extra points for good air conditioning which makes me want to linger a few minutes longer on hot days! Oh...and I've also gone to the UPS store to return Xfinity equipment. That too is a painless, fast process. I returned equipment a few times at the Xfinity store in Oakland and that was a time-consuming, inefficient nightmare. Charged me $4 just for A STRIP of tape to wrap the other side of my package. One freaking strip that couldn't have been more than 20 inches. Never had that happen to me at any other UPS store besides this one. read more

In my business I'm constantly getting packages so getting a box here to accept deliveries just made sense. At the time I didn't realize how integral their services would become to my business and years later, the staff here are like family. Even through an ownership change, the team there are EXCELLENT at what they do, even under the most demanding circumstances. Having hired hundreds of people over the life of my business, i recognize how rare it is for a company to hire, train and consistently offer superlative customer service, yet this UPS Store's culture has done that for years. I order from Amazon. A lot. That being said, I regularly have returns and I regularly drop off items at various UPS Stores. This location is one of the more difficult locations to deal with. The service is simply poor and non accommodating. Today I went to drop off ten items. For one package in particular, I had printed the label but needed to tape it to the box...they advised me that they could tape the label for me, but it would cost $2. I also had a box of shoes that they labeled for me, but the box itself was not taped closed...they advised me that they could tape that for me as well but for an additional and separate charge of $2. I asked if they could kindly combine the two "taping charges" as a minimal amount of tape was required but they could not accommodate me. I then asked if it would be cheaper to purchase tape from them and they said that they had a roll of tape that I could purchased for $2.99 that would be cheaper than the $4 they would charge to use their tape roll. I was dumbfounded. I also had one return label that was for the return of two items for but the items were boxed separately and they insisted that they needed to be boxed together and offered to sell me a larger box. Fortunately I was able to just cancel the returns on my Amazon app and reperform the return as two individual returns so that no additional box was needed. I'd like to add that I had a husband trying to manage a newborn in the car but that's my own business I suppose. In conclusion, a gentleman who I believe to be the manager was present and I get the impression that he is the root source of this extreme penny-pinching, and miserly, parsimonious behavior. I believe UPS Stores are independently owned franchises and I like to support business owners but I will make every effort to frequent other locations that are more service forward. read more

I read the hours again, racked my brain, walked around the building looking for another entrance. Does not seem to want to do UPS business- Needed to drop off a work-related RMA (computer back to manufacturer). After I stood in line for 3 minutes (which is not a problem) the guy behind counter(middle-aged Asian gent) tells guy behind me (off to side the way queue was formed) to leave his package on the counter. He then looked at me expectantly (another customer was still at counter) but did not say anything. I said I too had a drop-off but needed a receipt. "I don't give receipts", he said flatly. "But i have dropped off hundreds of packages here before and always got receipts", I said (which was true - I helped my son with a shoe drive a few years before where he shipped hundreds of boxes if shoes from this and another store - all with receipts upon request "Well I don't do that anymore. I am not required to, you can ask UPS. If you want a receipt, you can take it to the UPS office" (which fortunately is not too far away). I shook my head, muttered "Oh Lord" and walked out. UPS likely pays for the supplies to print receipts. If they don't, I can't imagine they cost more than a couple of cents. If there is s Covid-19 related reason (I can't imagine what) it was not stated, nor was a technical problem mentioned. I have very recently received receipts from the other UPS store in town. The guy was just giving bad customer service because "he could". Ok good on you, mate, and good luck growing your business. You will be the LAST place I think of when I need some of your more lucrative services. To UPS Corporate - a key part of shipping with you is to receive a receipt for the package. I can't afford to pay for a $1000 computer if it gets lost on its way to Microsoft's service center. If you don't already, please require this from and enforce it upon the franchisers who profit by using your name. read more

On October 23, I had Ava at this UPS store pack and mail a large number of items (the remainders of a storage locker of personal items I'd just cleaned out). The total cost was more than $600, which was perfectly fine as it included what would end up being at least six boxes plus a guitar and a bike. It was very busy when I went in there. Ava didn't have time to pack my items right then so she put all of them in the back room for their packer who would be in later to pack the items into boxes. Weeks later, in mid-November, no boxes had arrived. I email the branch and Ava replied. We then talked on the phone. She said she needed to arrange for a date for freight delivery of the items. It didn't make much sense to me as none of the boxes would be unusually heavy, but sure, ok. Then she stopped replying to emails and voicemails. And time went on without the items arriving. Another month later, a few days before Christmas, two boxes arrived. Oddly, the boxes had labels saying Next Day Air. I checked the tracking numbers on the UPS site and, surely enough, they had just been mailed the day before. Strange as it was, it was a hopeful start so I waited to see if more would come. None did. I emailed again after Christmas to ask for all of the tracking numbers of the boxes they'd packed for me but never received a reply. So, now I'm without most of my personal items I'd mailed, can't get responses from this branch, and don't have tracking numbers I can use to report to UPS as missing. At a minimum, I would say no matter how how nice they are, if you have them pack items for you, do not leave until they've been packed and you have tracking numbers. They are way too busy for the number of people working there, they're stacking people's items everywhere, and if they make a mistake, they are afraid to own up to it. It would have been nice to assume it wasn't them who lost my packages and instead was lost by UPS in transit, but unfortunately it's hard to come to that conclusion. read more

NEVER use this UPS store. I went into their store on 12/20/2014 to have two lamps and two lampshades packed and shipped to my address in Dallas, Texas. Ava, the Store Manager, took my order for 1) packaging my lamps 2) shipping them to my address in Texas. As of 3/05/3015 I STILL have not received half my shipment. it should be noted I paid $203.90 to have these items packed and shipped, and I have only received the lamp shades after almost three months. I called the UPS Store several times to inquire about my package in January and February. Finally on 2/23/2015 the Store Manager, Ava, called me back and said my lamps had NEVER gone out, and she was shipping them right away (and explained that she had been out of the office for a month and a half. Why this is relevant, I am not sure). On 02/28/2015 I received only the lampshades to my lamps, or only half my package. I have no idea where my lamp bases are. I just got off the phone with the UPS Store Corporate headquarters to report this store. As of now, I do not have a resolution for this issue. I am still waiting for both the Store Manager, Ava, and UPS Store Corporate to get back to me. I have also filed a complaint with UPS Shipping Corporate as this store is not a good representative of the UPS brand. read more

The last several times I've gone in to this location, the same woman has been working. Based on other reviews, I'm guessing it must be Ava. I never had a terrible experience here, but this woman embodies customer service. My husband and I have both had fantastic experiences with her and have remarked on how amazing she is. Friendly, greets you with a smile as soon as you walk in, even as she helps other customers; checks if folks are just dropping off so they don't have to wait; makes helpful recommendations and is just an all around pleasure. I miss when customer service was a thing provided in the retail world (after providing it myself for many years) and am thrilled that it exists here.
