I've never left a one star review before but here we go. The first thing I noticed when walking down the hallway and settling in is that once you get used to be smell, you don't really notice it anymore. It was a mix of whatever dollar store cleaner they used and the smell they were trying to clean up with their dollar tree cleaner. Overall the room is a decent size with all the creature comforts. However, we are right above the hotel bar, and it's so loud that ear plugs are doing nothing to cover up the music. I can't hear a phone call. The front desk seemed to not care about our problem and refused a refund or to do anything to help. They said the restaurant closes at 2am so maybe we can sleep after that. We will not be staying here again. It would be fine for someone who's going to go along with the party scene who won't be in the room much, but it's definitely not for us or anyone else who wants to use their hotel room to sleep. read more

My fiance and I stayed at The Verb last December and I had upgraded the room to a corner one with a little balcony. I absolutely enjoyed my stay here with the exception of a few things: Cons: - Do not expect early check-in. They just can't accommodate it. Our plane arrived at 7 AM and we wait in the lobby/walk around Boston until 2 PM to be able to check-in to our room - Can be loud - maybe not a good option for those traveling with small children or older adults. I loved The Verb Hotel! I had just found it online & loved the look. This is a hip boutique hotel, but even my mom loved it! She's even wanting to take my dad here now. The rooms are extremely clean & comfortable. What you really come to The Verb Hotel is the vibe. This place is just cool. The attention to detail is amazing. It's the whole thing, the whole experience. From the record players in every room, the typewriters, the pictures on the back of the door, the song titles on all the lil papers around the room, the TV that shows tourist things, the lobby, the lights, the windows, the signs, the wall murals. One thing I really loved was the brand of soaps they used. I never heard any noise from the bar when I was there. The only thing I wished they had was regular pillows, instead of down. Like many other reviewers have said, this is a wonderful spot if you're headed to a Red Sox game. I was in town for work but it happened to be a game day, which I found out when I was able to hear every cheer from the stadium and lots of drunken merriment after the game as people filed through the hotel parking lot. Luckily I was up late doing some work so I ddn't mind the noise too much, but you may want to check the game schedule before booking if you're looking for a quiet, tranquil experience. Beyond the craziness of the game, The Verb is a stylish and friendly to crash in Boston. The rates are kept pretty reasonable thanks to the lack of frills in the rooms, though you'll still enjoy nice bedding, CO Bigelow toiletries, and zebra printed robes in which to cozy up. There's a large outdoor pool area which I think would be awesome to enjoy in warmer months (I was there during a rainy spell so unfortunately didn't get to take advantage). The communal lobby area is very tiny, with just a few seats and little tables. My room wasn't ready when I got there so I had to do some work in there, and it was comfortable enough even if it got a bit crowded. The front desk staff is really friendly and don't mind you hanging out there if you're a guest. Looking at pictures from other yelpers it seems that their breakfast bar is usually a decent spread, but when I was there I believe there was some construction happening so it was just a pretty meager offering in a little hallway. Though there wasn't anything that tickled my fancy, I did appreciate the free hot tea. The construction also led to some pretty loud hammering, drilling, and sawing noises that permeated the front of the hotel. I'm sure that was all very temporary, though, and I fully expect that the next time I visit it'll be spic and span with lots more breakfast goodies. read more

My friend and I stayed here for one night because we had an event in the area and didn't want to drive home after. We also both work in the area which made our commute the next morning 5 minutes. In Boston!? Unicorn sighting y'all... We had a really fun night here. The pool is heated and so we were able to enjoy it (in January!) and have it all to ourselves! The funny thing is, when we were making the reservation, they asked if we wanted a pool side view. My friend laughed and was like "it's January". The woman never even told her it was heated! Wtf? Luckily, Target is a 2 min walk away and we were able to get matching, hilarious $30 bathing suits, and so we really couldn't even be mad about it.The second thing that made it a lot of fun was the restaurant that is attached to it. Will do separate review but great drinks and food! Dat ramen though! The vibe is super retro-chic. It was not noisy at all, but again, it was January. The shower didn't work in the morning and we both had to leave before 6:30 am so there was nothing we could really do about it I mean I really should dock another star for that, I felt disgusting all day at work. I love the hole in the partition glass though. Is that so you don't get wet when you turn the shower on? Genius. Breakfast also started at 7 am so missed that as well. The beds were clean and comfortable. Staff were really friendly. The neighborhood is fantastic and has so many great restaurants, some shopping, grocery/ Target, Starbucks, all within walking distance. So yeah, I had a great time. Was it the Verb or the 7 Polar Bear shots or the company I kept or the matching pineapple bathing suits... We'll never know, but it was one hell of a combination. Location, well I certainly liked it and well within walking distance of the city centre (or a few stops on the green line) It's hip, fun and different, kept the essence of the old building and given it a sense of joie de vivre. Not so good. The hip sometimes gets in the way. (Not enough lights in the rooms for example) We stayed above the bar, and worth bearing in mind that if you stay here at the weekend, downstairs may be lively and you'll hear it all (seem to have a thing for Artic Monkey tracks incidentally) All in all - different, fun and memorable stay. read more

Game days would be awesome if you stayed at this hotel--you would hear the cheers from the Green Monster while you sit in your comfortable room or by the chic pool!! The staff at The Verb is very kind and efficient. They work extremely hard to make your stay easy, comfortable, and worthwhile. We based our decision to stay at The Verb using Yelp and a recommendation from a local. So we felt good about staying here, located near restaurants and convenient to Fenway. Parking lot is small and valet must be used at $24/day for guests and $39/non-guest and $55 for baseball games. The sign is a massive square billboard with a black and white picture of a young man holding a peace sign on one side and a woman on the other. The hotel is 2 levels and colorful, retro look. The lobby is pretty neat, bold design and color. Their breakfast bar prominently displays sugary flavored boxes of cereal. The hotel restaurant is Japanese, Hojoko, not open until 5 pm and no food in the hotel after breakfast. There are many options to eat in the area, but it is a bit inconvenient to leave. They have a small pool. Again no refreshments around during pool time. Our desk attendant, Zack, is wonderful and hard working. He managed the desk on his own with efficiency and urgency. I love watching people hustle and mean it! He was moving bags, replenishing towels by the pool, answering the phone, helping guests check in and giving them local advice while having an upbeat attitude! We asked to get checked in as early as possible na they delivered. Even though it was a while, I know they did what they could. The hotel only has 93 rooms. They need more space. They use a room as their "fitness center" which is comprised of 1 treadmill, 1 bike, 1 elliptical machine and a water cooler. They use another room to store luggage since their lobby is quite compact. The halls are too dark. Room numbers are hard to read with the funky font they chose. No elevator if you are staying on the second floor. We were on the first level thank goodness. Our room has view of the pool and a accessible private deck with seating and table. I believe our room had the sole deck of their design. The room was underwhelming. After seeing the lobby, one would think the room would be as bold. I felt the room was cold and cheap. They have a couple of photos on the wall and a retro typewriter on the desk. The tv is big flat screen. The closet has no doors. Our shower had no door but is handicap accessible. The bathroom is huge with much wasted space. No counter by the sink. Towel racks set across the shower and sink, walk across with dripping hands to dry. Wait there is more... Our sheets were stained in 2 places. They did not replenish our complimentary water or our bar soap. We were given an attitude ordering a taxi from the front desk. There is old time rock and roll music playing all...night...long! Being near the stadium we expect noise but the game ends and people eventually go home. The restaurant closes at 1:30 am which is fine but turn off that music. Our saving grace was the roaring AC system to drown out the noise for about 10 minutes at a time. This is not a peaceful night's stay, that's for sure. The breakfast counter is a la carte and if you want a sandwich you must buy each item separately and create yourself. Eggs alone are $5. On one of our days, they were not able to clean our room. We returned from a day out and our room was untouched. They finally came later and we were resting so we turned them away. Our water, coffee, towels, and bath products were not replenished. They were quick to bring coffee refills and water when I asked the front desk. I normally love our hotel stays. This room made me miss my bed terribly and cut my vacation short. read more

I originally only planned to stay 1 night here but quickly made it 2 after the front desk team was so friendly and helpful and I realized I needed more time in Boston. Honestly, the whole rock music vibe they have going on there is not really my scene. That being said, however, I had a fantastic stay here! The whole place is pretty small and cozy, yet the decor is so unique and has some modern chic-ness going on. I really recommend a visit if you want comfortable accommodations, great amenities, and a slightly different take on travel than your average hotel-- this was an experience in and of itself. Heat worked great in the room, loved the lavender mint Bigelow toiletries provided, and super comfortable bed. Only complaint is the shower, it gets really messy since there's no curtain. read more

Wow. What an awesome place! I seriously cannot believe I ended up here simply by happenstance. A few months ago I was searching for a hotel while I would be in town for a conference. Every place I looked at downtown was ridiculously expensive. I couldn't justify the cost, so I started to expand my search. The Verb was one of the best reviews to show up in my search and was relatively more affordable (about $100/night less than the hotels downtown, if not more). I booked the room and promptly forgot about it. Fast forward to my arrival. While I was waiting to check into my room, I got to sit out by the pool and listen to the Red Sox playing right across the street. SO. COOL. The rooms are fun, hip, and comfortable. I enjoyed looking for all of the small touches that give this place its retro feel. From the artwork to the lighting to the couches, this place is on point! The staff is incredibly friendly. The front desk attendant learned my name the first night and has always been great about asking me how I'm doing. Just tonight, the valet hailed a cab for a friend of mine who stopped by for a visit - something he certainly didn't have to do. Overall, a wonderful experience and a true gem of a find. Each room is decked out with a turntable, amp, albums, vintage posters, fridge, plush robes, high end linens and a cozy feel. They have a huge selection of albums you can choose and swap out. Stayed at The Verb Hotel with friends for my bachelorette party and could not recommend it more. The vibe is a perfect fun, laid back, and rock and roll. A group of 8 friends met at the hotel after we rented 1 room. As everyone else said, if you're into music or rock at all it is super fun to have a record player in the room and play music. We all were able to use the pool, which was in the middle of the hotel. The pool wasn't huge but was perfect for a hot afternoon. They provided towels and water and we were able to bring snacks/drinks (in plastic containers). There were a few chairs but filled up quickly by the few other guests there. One thing I wish we did bring is pool floats since there weren't many people at the pool. We went to a Red Sox game in the evening, and the hotel could not be in a better place. The hotel is about 2 blocks from Fenway and a perfect location for the park, as well as bars/restaurants around for after. We were able to grab food from a nearby restaurant before the game and a late-night drink at the hotel restaurant after. For the couple of us that stayed over at the hotel, we all commented on how quiet the room was despite being so close the Fenway action. In the morning, we checked out and grabbed an iced coffee from their nitro coffee tap. Definitely would recommend! There were also light breakfast items available for guests. I would say the price for the room was high, but the location, vibe, and pool made the stay worth it. I would probably not repeat the stay for myself but could not give a higher recommendation for a girls night/bachelorette party that we did. Really awesome experience here- I rarely Yelp but I had to for this hotel. First time staying here and I will definitely be back! The staff were all beyond accommodating, the vibe is killer with the rock theme, the room also did not disappoint. The bed was comfy, the bathroom was huge and had everything you'd need, and every room has a record player with selections to choose from in the room and out front in the lobby. They offer free wifi, free bottles of water, breakfast in the AM, heated pool... it just goes on. It was such a fun experience and again can't emphasize how friendly and helpful the staff was. This is our second year staying here for the ZBB concert at Fenway. It is such an awesome hotel we hate to leave. The staff from the valet attendants to the housekeeping are so helpful and Accommodating. We love the old school retro vibe. Being that this was a former old ho Jo's they have really created Something unique and pretty spectacular. The best part, it's right next to Fenway our room view was Fenway. They always provide free water bottles, coffee, cool robes, ice and great toiletries. This time we even got t shirts and bottle openers! All the rooms have record players and there are many records to choose from. The beds are Comfortable and the bathroom is clean. There are so many cute things that I won't give away. This stay the pool seemed a little cloudy/dirty but that's the only negative I have. If you enjoy boutique hotels check it out. read more

Great location and service!!! Located a block from Fenway and only a few blocks from bars and great restaurants. The gentleman at the front desk Calvin was very helpful throughout our stay! The hotel offers complimentary muffins scones and coffee which were delicious. The hotel has a rock & roll them and is truly unique. There is a pool at the center of the hotel which was right outside our door, it would be great in the summer. The bed was very comfortable and although it's not a 5 star hotel we did get a 5 star experience!!! read more

We really enjoyed our stay here! Our Family of four stayed for three nights. The music library was a big hit with the whole family! The staff is exceptional. Everyone was so kind and helpful. They had water and ice pops for the kids and the cold brew coffee in the lobby is amazing. There is a restaurant on site and the food was so great (get a reservation because they are really busy.) The location was perfect, subway station was close enough for a comfortable walk and the fine art museum is just across the park. I would certainly stay here again! Highly recommend! read more

I can't tell you how much fun this hotel is. If you're a music lover, or even if you aren't, this is the place to be. Centrally located behind Fenway, everything is close. You can walk to Target or a T station. The staff is super friendly and helpful. The lobby is decorated with very cool memorabilia from all types of music. Nice, clean pool. When you get here... you've arrived. The Verb is a rock-n-roll oasis in the middle of a bustling Boston neighborhood. It's right next to Fenway Park, which is fantastic, but it's way more than that. The retro design, the 24/7 access to the biggest vinyl collection on the planet, rock memorabilia everywhere, the poolside experience and the always helpful staff will make your stay one you will tell stories about to your friends. Every room has a turntable in it so you can spin whatever you want (bring your own vinyl or choose from their massive vault). I highly recommend this hotel for a unique travel adventure. Very cute, clean, and nice people. Their restaurant is also very good. Only problem was it was very loud...I was one of the first rooms in the hallway and all night we were kept up by loud people and doors slamming shut, also the fans were loud in the room and didn't automatically turn off and even when turned off kept turning back on. Everything besides the noise was good though, and if you're staying a night parking is an extra $48 per day which is also something to consider. read more

We stayed for the weekend due to back to back shows at the TD Garden. Easy check-in/check-out. Very cool vibe! Music was playing in the room when we got there and there was already an assortment of vinyl for the record player in our room. Very clean. Beds were ok comfort wise. We didn't use the heated outdoor pool but there was always plenty of people swimming whenever we walked by even though it was absolutely freezing cold this weekend. Easy drive to the Garden and most everything else for us was within walking distance. Overall a good stay! Only thing I wasn't sold on was the lack of shower door...everything was always super wet, and that when following gps it comes up fast but the building is short and the name is small so it hits you after you've already passed the entrance. read more

It doesn't matter why you are in town, but if you love music and like a cool place to hang, this is the place you need to stay. I was here for a couple of concerts at some local venues, and this place just fed the vibe of awesomeness that fed my awesome weekend. For starters, you walk in and there are guitars in the lobby. Couple electrics just chilling there, some acoustics, guess what for? Guests to jam on. It will lead to some most excellent post show times. Next, you get your hotel key, which comes on a lanyard with VIP lettering on it. Now, I'm not saying that if you're at a show you can use this to get any special treatment, but it may look just official enough depending on the show you're at. ;) There is a huge collection of records in the lobby. Hmmmm, I wonder why? Oh right, every room has it's own turntable ad Marshall amp. There are also concert DVD's playing on the in house channel at night, and the staff- Wait they get their own paragraph. The rooms themselves are modern but not too modern. They're very rock. The staff are kick ass. They're friendly, patient, and awesome. Major props to Scott, who kindly directed our group of mischief makers to the lobby where we could hang out after hours and not bother other patrons. Yep, this place rocks. Loved this eclectic rockstar themed hotel! Absolutely love the decor, the ambience, the rooms were clean and decorated according to the theme as well and had record players in each. You can borrow records for your stay and return them upon check out. There's a huge rack of them. There was a music display in the hallway on the way to our room which was pretty cool. The pool was in the center and lots of people were seen having a good time in it. The location is the best, right in front of the Fenway stadium where concerts are held as well. Red Sox were out of town when we stayed. Luke Bryant was there the following day so the parking lot was full and the music could be heard from the hotel. There are plenty of cute restaurants near by including Pavement which we stopped by for coffee and yummy bagels. read more

Amazing experience all around! We chose The Verb for its proximity to Fenway, and to stay someplace unique. Every member of the hotel staff did their part to treat us out-of-towners like VIPs. I was nervous about parking, but we scored a valet spot onsite. We got the Rolling Stones room, and the memories written by the local journalist were fascinating to read. The record player was a little scratchy, but it was fun to listen to records in our room. The outdoor pool felt glorious on a 60 degree evening! Dinner at the onsite sushi place (Hojoko) was a solid choice. The front desk folks helped us figure out how best to spend a sunny Thursday, as well as how to navigate the T. I didn't stay at The Verb but I did check my daughter and friend in for a birthday celebration night and can say without any reservation it was the best check in experience I've ever had. The team in warm, welcoming, takes COVID precautions very seriously and treats guests with love. The balcony room, pool, vinyl library, music memorabilia and location make it the perfect spot. It's a very cute hotel decor wise. Record player in the room was great. But, there were just too many things that turned me off. The room was just not very....clean. Very dusty in several areas. I didn't smell any cleaning products upon entering our room. The sheets were a good quality, but were covered in dark lint, very noticeable. Our room was directly next to the staircase, causing me to be up at 5 am when other guests exiting were clunking their suitcases down every step. This problem could be eliminated if they had an elevator, so beware for that, and ask for a first floor room if you are disabled. Very little insulation to the rooms. We could hear every noise and footstep of the hallway and rooms near ours. $68 parking fee, $38 resort fee (no option to decline resort fee.) Would not recommend if you are looking for a relaxing stay. But the front desk people are very very sweet! read more
