We made reservations for Dec 25. had the Prime Rib, Carrots, potatoes, Au jus, Horse Radish..etc 1st off , they dont have any kind of steak spice ??? 2nd, carrots were fried but uncooked and hard. 3rd, Au Jus, not Au Jus. it was this rich over bearing and way too salty gravy. 4th, asked for horse raddish, no kick. i could eat off the spoon 5th, Prime Rib way too fatty and very tough to cut had to chew and chew 6th, $350 more than double the keg, half as good please do not waste your hard earned money on this restaurant. read more

Having recently stayed at the Douglas for a staycation (the weekend before Victor opened!) we had marked Victor as a place to go back to try their steaks, since from the outside the space looked nice and their website was showing off a nice selection of steaks and a 1200 degree broiler to get a nice char on those steaks. We ended up going around two weeks after it opened and were reasonably pleased with our experience. The evening started off a bit rocky as the hostesses at the front seemed a bit confused with our seating and ended up putting us at an awkward table in the middle of the room and denied our request to move to another table claiming it was "fully booked" (no one was sitting there before we got there and no one had sat down when we left 2+ hours later). Maybe they had no shows or were holding for casino high rollers, either way quite disappointing. There was also an awkward gap where it seemed no waiters/waitresses had noticed we were seated and we had no service at all for the first 5 minutes of our meal. Hopefully something they get sorted out after a month or two of being open. Moving onto the food, we started with the blue fin (which was served with a hot salt block to sear yourself) and the foie gras - both dishes were well presented and tasty (though portions are on the smaller side for both these dishes so consider yourself warned). For mains I opted for the wagyu ribeye (seems like a steal at $69 for 12 oz) and my girlfriend had the filet. Both steaks were well cooked and had a nice char on the outside (better than other steakhouses in town). We also ordered sides of fries and brussel sprouts which were both solid - the truffle mayo that came with the fries was a standout for us! Even though we were full we decided to get some dessert - the Menke's Cake ended up being a huge slice of cake, and a must-try for anyone who likes coconut. Beautiful restaurant. Lively atmosphere. I would give this place 5 stars but the noise level was so high it was difficult to hear my dining companions. The service was outstanding. The server's timing was wonderful. He knew when to attend to the table and when to give us space. The food was delicious. I would recommend the crab cake. When it arrived I thought it was a bit small, but it is 99% crab meat, grilled to perfection and so rich. Two of us shared it and it was enough. Try the fries with truffle aioli. Outside crispy, inside fluffy. Finally I had the ahi tuna steak. Absolutely Devine. The grilled rice role was incredible. My dining companion has the chicken and it was very good. Ratings for Victor is lower than I thought... I really enjoyed their steak. The service was not bad either. I got their porterhouse (4/5) to share. The show you the cooked steak as a whole and bring it back in for cutting and voila. Your meal is served. Oh and tip, you should order some sauce to go with the steak. Prior to the porterhouse I had their foie gras (3/5) appetizer to share. It's not the best but I'd skip and try something that might be more worthwhile. I tried two desserts that night. The Menke's cake (4/5) and the Whiskey cake (3/5). The menke's cake was a sponge cake with coconut mousse/custard between each layers. The texture of the sponge and cream was so good and the coconut flavours were very prominent; which I wasn't expecting. Whiskey cake was a bit more theatrical as the server would dig a teaspoon in the middle of your 'cake' to create a dent. He then pours the whiskey caramel in and lets it soak into the cake. We booked our staff Xmas party, they sat us in the tented patio area, all the woman's legs and feet were freezing cold, 3 of us ordered beef wellington, they messed up the order and brought us the wrong meals. Mind you we ordered steak to share and you could be full depending how much you order. 5 Girl's and a few cocktails our bill came around $480 which isn't to bad. It's on the 6th floor of the JW Marriot inside Parq. Easy to get lost if you don't ask for directions. Once I arrived, they do check your vaccine passport which is reassuring but no one checked my ID? My review is based on DOV and would have rated it 4 stars if I had just gone a la carte as not a fan of ordering dessert as wish restaurants would substitute that course for a cocktail instead?? I enjoyed the main and dessert but the appetizer was disappointing. I ordered from the Dine Out Vancouver 3 course menu for $59 (definitely feeling the effects from inflation as DOY used to be $45) as it's the last wknd so the restaurant was very busy. I started with the whipped burrata & pear fresh & caramelized pears, roasted beets, candied walnut, minus 8 reduction but it was flavorless and sub par. The golden beets made it somewhat tolerable but not as delicious as it sounded in theory. Then got the sake marinated sablefish and that was delicious, melts in your mouth felt like a small portion, it consisted of bok choy, and saikyo miso but think it was missing the crispy rice as per the description? It reminded me of Nobu's black cod miso but sablefish is lighter white fish. Then had the valrhona dark chocolate crunch for dessert which was chocolate mousse, brownie brittle, chantilly but was pretty full from the initial 2 courses but had a bite and it was decadent. Paired my meal with a bottle of Mission Hill Pinot Noir and it was good since I'm familiar with this winery but probably not a suitable pairing for this meal. Doubt I would go back as think I could have spent $120 elsewhere since this is a steak house and I don't eat beef and not a fan of the casino environment at this hotel as it was pretty crowded but you don't know unless you try it. read more

Yet when she walked away we spoke to another hostess who found us seats in 5 min . The rest of the staff waiter's & buss staff were very customer service focused . We tried several dishes on the menu; tomato-salad ( was ok ,not worth reordering) prawn cocktail ( three prawns seemed a bit skimpy for a portion , cocktail sauce had way too much Tabasco in it ) Chilled Alaska crab excellent portion size ,very fresh ,would recommend. Bone marrow ( this was beautiful presented , one done like a surf & turf style with crab & lobster topping the 2nd done with a caramelized onion & Gouda cheese topping. Tasted like French onion soup! ) Served with brioche toast points. Only issue with this dish it came drastically under cooked .......pity but they did right by us & took it off the bill. I would recommend this dish . The best savoury dish of the night was the mushroom risotto. This was the best risotto I have every had anywhere! Really highly recommend.! The chef treated us to dessert. We ordered the coconut cream cake which was enough for three people we took the left overs hm .like a coconut cream pie cake . I have came here many times and I enjoy the service ,food and atmosphere. Today however I am appalled. I was not only disappointed with the service today but the whole experience itself. Our server is named James and we came in a group of 4 today. Clearly they were short staffed but never communicated it to us. It took 15 minutes for us to get water and another 20-30 minutes to get our order in. Anyways the service throughout dinner was not up to par in comparison of the other times I've been here. At the end of the service we ended up tipping g around 10% due to our disappointment. What's worst is that at the end, our group is outside taking pictures and our sever comes outside and says to us "is something wrong with the nail? normally the gratuity is higher, now I have to pay a portion of your bill, please come in and talk to management". It's strange how The Victor is considered a "fine dining restaurant" yet the service was not any better than any regular restaurant. read more

Being in a place like the JW, I had high hopes for this place. Unfortunately, those hopes were just that, hopes. We went with a group of six people. Typically, a dinner like this takes around 90 minutes. It took 90 minutes before the server ever took our entree orders. It felt like we had to remind him to take our drink orders, then our appetizer orders, and ultimately, our entree orders. He seemed in no rush to do anything. We were constantly sitting with empty drinks and had to ask for another one versus him asking if he could get us another one. Maybe too much Canadian weed? After roughly 150 minutes, we finally received our entrees and they were a huge disappointment. Some people had things missing like their steak accompaniments or side dishes. Every single steak was overcooked. In addition to being overcooked, the quality of steak was terrible. My filet mignon tasted like a sirloin. Being that it had already been so long, we just dealt with the steaks so we wouldn't pass the three hour mark. My friend and I had to repeatedly walk up to the server station just to get our water refilled, or to simply even get the server's attention! Casino restaurants get a bad rep (and understandly so.) The Victor smashes that stereotype beautifully. Lovely ambiance and food to match! Came here with a friend for her birthday dinner. She was blown away by the entrance ~ it envelopes BC Place and its stunningly beautiful at night! Our server was great; made sure that my dietary restrictions were taken care of and came back to check on us all night! We had a bottle of champagne, the onion ring tower and house-cut bacon chips to start, and a wagyu burger and steak as our main! The wagyu burger was A+. Perfectly medium rare as requested! Do order the bacon chips, we munched on them for the duration of our meal! The portion sizes are surprisingly generous. No complaints here! I especially love the seating at the Victor. The green booths and the tufted sofa seating...super comfy! One could easily sit there for hours on end. The crowd is pretty bumpin' too, like Shirley C. mentioned, it's not stuffy at all for a steak house! Quite the opposite actually. Just a total joke. My family came in for a table and one of the 4 hosts said she would put us on the waitlist at 6:45 and told us to come back at 8 o'clock. We come back at 8 and she told us to come back in another hour, and that they just had too many reservations so it would be another hour until they could maybe seat us. Here's the thing. I work in a very busy restaurant and if we're booked up for the night we tell people we're booked. Don't make people wait around for two hours and keep giving them a longer wait time every time they come in. Do better. If you're not sure when you can seat someone it's better to tell them a longer wait time up front. read more

I had been meaning to dine in for a while, however, it always seemed like there were other restaurants that peaked my interest more. By the time I finally came around to trying it out, they had the dine outside menu, which was quite a steal for the 3 course meal, which included a ribeye steak. Im normally quite weary of dine out menus since it seems as if they're never on par with what a restaurant normally makes, however, because The Victor is self proclaimed as a steakhouse, I made the assumption that their steak would be done well regardless. To start, I had the lobster bisque, which was done very well. When the steak arrived, I was surprised that we weren't offered a steak knife so I assumed it was just because it was a dine out situation that they maybe (?) didn't have enough steak knives to go around. I had ordered it rare, and the steak came out overcooked. The cut was very underwhelming for a ribeye, let alone, impossible to cut with the knife that was at the table. When our server finally came around to check on us, I was going to ask him for a steak knife then but he had them in hand and told us he saw us struggling with cutting our steaks and that these might come in handy. Regardless of the knife, the fact that he saw us really struggling with cutting, what was supposedly a ribeye, done rare (my guest had his done medium rare and struggled just as much), it honestly shouldn't have been so hard to cut through. The steak was served with whipped mash, which was overly salty and a couple pieces of roasted veggies. The dessert options were a coconut cake and a black forest cake. My guest and I ordered different cakes to be able to sample both. There was nothing particularly special but they weren't terrible either. I would maybe come back for drinks on their patio since the view and interior are beautiful, however, I would definitely suggest Elisa or Gotham if I was to recommend a steak house in Vancouver. read more

Very bad Management we booked the table and the restaurant confirmed the window seat for us. When we arrived, they said all window table are gone as it is first come first served. This is ridiculous, the person who confirmed the booking with me didn't say is a first come first serve and what the point of reservation? I think the increased traffic from Dine Out may have contributed to staff's inattentiveness to be honest. Because I heard the service was poor here before I went, and I can confirm that it is very poor. We arrived at 8pm sharp, the time we had reservations for, but our table wasn't ready. We were advised to sit next to the front area and wait. It was around ten after 8 that a manager noticed we had been waiting for awhile, ran back to the front, grabbed menus for us, and finally brought us to a table. They give you a large book that says 'Wine' on the cover. In fact, it has wine, beer, cocktails, etc. all the beverages. I didn't notice this at first and asked a bus girl if they had a cocktail menu. She replied that she didn't know and that I should ask our server. That was strange. Also, our server was completely MIA. The same manager that noticed we hadn't been seated, also noticed that we had no drinks 15 minutes after we had been seated and came over asked for a drink order at almost 8:30pm. (Remember, our reservation was at 8pm). Anyways, the food was actually very good (we did not order off of the Dine Out menu), but no matter how good food is, bad service will always ruin a meal -- that's what happened here. When we ordered dessert, we also asked for the bill right away because our waiter was so MIA the whole evening, and we were afraid we have to wait for ever to get the bill later. We were correct. The thing was, we got our dessert, but 35 minutes later after asking for the bill, we had to ask for it again (!). (Maybe this is being petty, but multiple servers dropped and broke multiple plates on the ground around tables near us throughout the evening. It was as if all new people were working.) Again, maybe Dine Out had the staff under pressure. But you can't advertise yourself as an upscale experience with such poor service and poor attention to detail. Tried both the bone on and bone off sirloin. Under seasoned and bland. Hys steaks are better and was underwhelming. Was really hoping the steak would steal the show but was very disappointing. Maybe the meat from the supplier is bad or wasn't dry aged (didn't say dry age on the menu). For the price of $70, was expecting a lot more. Couldn't beat the steakhouses I had in various restaurants in Vegas even. The only good thing about the steak was the finger potato that was well seasoned. Mac and Cheese Waffle was great. Felt like street or night market food but was easily the most unique thing on the menu. I wish it had pulled pork or some type of meat inside that works well with the pasta inside the cheese waffle. Was a little bit too bland but good enough to try. Don't know why this was considered a side for the main. Is obviously an appy to share. 4 Big pieces came in the same time with my steaks. The server told me I had to eat it hot when it came in. What about my steak? Don't I have to eat this hot as well? Said the same about the fries. Why are these two part of the sides for the main? Makes no sense. The lobster bisque was the most saltiest soup I have ever had and it had barely any meat inside. Was expecting so much and received for little. The most added ingredient is salt! Like have any chef or cook inside actually try the soup itself? The presentation was nice and fitting because an expeditor poured the soup tableside but the salt was intense. A lot of lobster and crab flavour but was easily overwhelmed. Triple cooked fries were not bad but I am really surprised it wasn't an appy but a side to the main / steak. Literally jumbo fries and we had to eat it while eating the main course. Of course the fries get cold afterwards but why is it a side for a steak? Mushrooms are good, enough for 2/3 people for the price, well seasoned and includes roasted onions and bell peppers. Do not get the chimichurri. It is nothing like what I had in other steakhouses in the US. It looks and tastes like an oily salsa. Literally chopped up onions and bell peppers that looks like a salsa. Why is it not blended?? I wanted a dipping sauce, not a new side dish. Like I get this place tries to change certain things and be fancy but cmon.... if people love blended chimichurri where people can dip it on a ramekin, dont serve chimichurri salsa with big chunks of vegetables. It was also very bland too. Basically just dipping into oil and bell peppers. I wanted blended herbs with oil infused and some salt for the flavouring. The only reason I can give 3 stars is that the service is great. Food is obviously pricey as it is a high end restaurant but I am sorry, no one actually tested the flavours of the menu. Went the for the first time yesterday. One of the best dining experiences in a very long time. Every appetizer we got was great. I had the cowboy ribeye, and others at the table had the rib cap and the petit fillet mignon. All of them were fantastic. The service we got from Matthew and everyone else was phenomenal. If I had any criticism at all, it would be that the music was too lid for our taste. I'd take off half a star for that if I could, but certainly not a whole star. Highly recommended. read more

Dim sum at the victor is really mediocre. Crab cake was super delicious, the curry aioli went really with it. Egg white frittata was good, but would be better with more veggies in it. Steak and eggs was pretty good. Onion rings were a little hard to bite because of the batter. Quebec foie gras was over cooked the first time it came out, so we got a replacement. It wasn't up to Quebec foie gras standard tho, don't know what grade do they use. Our server Shawn was great, so it made up the experience. The food quality really could be better. read more

This was my second time at The Victor and it lived up to the expectations. First of all, the outdoor walk to the front of the restaurant is spectacular for a Vancity view...mass water feature reflecting the glow of BC Place lights and canopy on one side, and a downtown scape on the other. It really sets the tone for an impressive night! The hostesses were friendly and were able to seat us straight away. At first, it was a little strange because our table of two was in a corner that shared bench seating with a larger party table (may not be an ideal table for two if you're thinking you're in for a date night with your significant other, & end up seated next to a potential party table). Since this was not that type of dinner for two, our table actually worked for us and the occasion. The whole atmosphere here is really lively and celebratory which added to our feel good night out! Our server Rio was awesome! He knew we were celebrating a birthday so he brought us two glasses of complimentary champagne with delish drop cherry on the bottom! He was really informative, gave great recommendations, was the perfect amount of attentive and did little things to make us feel like he was going above an beyond just for us (even though he could be that way with all his tables). He definitely added to our experience! The food is primarily steak house but lots of seafood and even sushi options. They also had a few vegetarian friendly dishes too. A well rounded menu that accommodates a lot of preferences. Our order was all really good and I share the exact details a little further below if you're interested. All in all, if you're looking to indulge and treat yourself, this place is a really great place to get dressed up and enjoy without having to hit up a bar scene downtown! The food is good, atmosphere is fun, and I will definitely be back. For foodies interested in hearing about the order details... Our order list was quite a lot for two people but this was a night to indulge and celebrate so we wanted try a number of things. Pre appetizer, they bring complimentary bread with butter. The bread isn't your ordinary table bread either, it has little crispy onion bits crusted into the top that add such extra flavour and the butter is whipped and smooth. For appetizers, we had the charred BC octopus, the crab cake, and the scallop dish in an appy size. All the appies were quite good. The crab cake came with a curry sauce that was really complimentary and a shaved fennel salad that also paired well. The scallops were kind of caramelized and crisp on the top and bottom, but soft texture on the inside. They're served with a carrot purée, crisp guanciale, and little fregula pasta which is a little bead shape that added some "pop" - we really enjoyed them! The octopus was smoked so it's soft texture and smoky flavour did sort of remind of us of hotdog lol - but we still ate it and enjoyed it. It was served with some yummy potatoes and a romesco sauce. For our mains, we went steak route with the rib cap, a side order of the waffle mac & cheese, & the Caesar salad to share. We were told the steak comes on it's own and the sides are to share, but to our surprise, there were several smashed potatoes and red peppers on our plates alongside the steak. The steak was cooked to perfection, the Caesar salad was a nice crisp side and instead of croutons, they add crispy chickpeas...then came the mac & cheese waffles and damn, they're friggen amazing - crisp outside with that crunchy cheddar flavour, but comfort, classic mac & cheese texture on the inside; they were all kinds of good and served with a white cheddar dipping sauce (as if they weren't cheesy enough). The dessert menu didn't blow us away...I had ordered the donuts with cotton candy (one of their most popular) the first time I went and wasn't too excited about them...and nothing else appealed, so we opted to grab dessert elsewhere after dinner. Although we didn't formally order dessert, we did indulge in a yummy Spanish coffee and were given a little complimentary sweet dish with two white chocolate balls filled with a lemon flavoured ganache on a bed of coconut chips and a thin white chocolate sheet with "Happy Birthday" written on it. These were little flavour bombs and we really liked them but not sure if they're served at the end of every meal. Edit - 3 stars because 2 hours later i was absolutely parched and it continues through the evening. Pass on the mushrooms! ---- Came here with the hubby and 4 month old for my 30th birthday. Definitely family friendly and great courteous staff. We had the aburi sushi to start. The fish was super fresh and not covered in any masking sauce. The small amount of sauce that was in there complimented it quite well. I would even choose this over the likes of miku/minami. Everything was great we had the tomahawk 50oz steak to share. It was super juicy medium rare and presented beautifully. Mashed potatoes were nice and smooth. The reason it was half a star off is the mushrooms were on the salty side. Hubby stopped eating them and he usually never wastes ANY food. The raspberry limonata was delicious too if you're looking for a virgin drink. This review is based on appis and drinks. Service- was good overall except it took me asking someone for help after 15 mins went by and we weren't even acknowledged. I was surprised bc we were seated right behind the waiters "station." They apologized and gave us free champagne. Thanks, you are forgiven :) We just came by to grab some drinks and light bites before heading to D6. The ambiance is very nice and formal. Beautiful sights and views depending on where you are seated. I didn't mind where we were seated bc we dropped in last minute. The waiters are very nice but it was awkward when my waiter went straight into this long dialogue about what they specialize in when all we wanted was appis. He almost seemed disappointed by our decision. The gin cocktails we ordered were amazing! One of the best gin cocktails I've had (French Smash). I downed 3 like they were water. I am coming back just for that cocktail!! Food: We just ordered brussel sprouts and french fries. I kid you not, the side mayo was delicious. We could not stop diving in. Incredible drinks but absolutely AWFUL service! My husband and I had a terrible experience at The Victor even though we were staying in the hotel AND 20+ year Marriott Bonvoy members. The bartender Phillip started off quite rude and persnickety with us. He didn't give a warm welcome or share the top items in the menu even though asked. However, throughout the evening he welcomed a couple of couples around us with warmth. He did not check on us for the 2 hours we were present - not once. I spoke with the manager who was kind and "attempted" to make up for the experience by offering another round of drinks in the same area, which was far from service recovery. Would not recommend to anyone wanting a positive, fun experience with kind service. read more

Pros: convenient location, lovely ambiance, spacious seating, well-made cocktail Cons: sub-par service, okay food Details: The Victor markets itself as an upscale Pacific Northwest eatery with a focus on steak. While booking we were advised multiple times regarding dress code, which heightened our expectations. Has a truly upscale restaurant, wear a jacket in the dining room, restaurant appeared? Intrigued. We arrived Saturday night. Shattered expectation, it's another casual but "elegant" establishment. At the very least they would take our coats? Nope. Pulled out the chair? Nope. Could we take your purse miss? Nope. Surely they must have coat check? They do, you just have to be assertive enough. Ordering a drink took a while. Same with receiving them. Upon receiving drinks we were ready for food, the server was not ready, so we wait again. Appies: Northern Divine Caviar served with blinis and accompaniments. I prefer blinis fresh and still a bit warm. So, overall not perfect, but good. Salad: Roasted Beet Salad ... nothing notable about this. Main: Rib Cap cooked med-rare - good, the one thing I really enjoyed. Add Hokkaido Scallops - overcooked, so sad. Spinach: it was just spinach... Desert: Menke's Cake - I like coconut, so this passed. Food verdict: My favorite part of the meal was the bread they served prior to. No one checked if the food was tasting good. As I said "meh". As a steak house it's a breath of fresh modern air from the tradition spots. But, if you want to have simple items on your menu, either blow people away with it's freshness and presentation, or be innovative with the composition. Would I come back? Very disappointing! I came here for my 30th birthday and made a reservation at least a month in advance for 8:45pm. We arrived on time and spoke to the hostess who looked very confused and panicked and then just left us. Those girls were so overwhelmed and extremely unhelpful! We had to go up a few times to get updates. The lack of communication was so frustrating! The manager eventually brought us prosecco but it was after one of my guests mentioned to him how upset I was. Finally at 10:15pm we sat down. Then the ordering took forever at that point I didn't feel like splurging on dinner. I finally got my dinner at 11pm a full 2hour and 15mins after my reservation. The food was ok, I did enjoy the Mac and cheese waffles. I got a filet mignon which was cooked well but it was same quality as the keg for way more. Also I NEVER GOT A BIRTHDAY CAKE!!!! Literally everyone working there knew it was my birthday, the server even said happy birthday when I sat down. We saw a birthday dessert coming and thought it was for me but it wasn't, we all laugh about it now but it felt pathetic! How can you screw up so much and DO NOTHING?! At the prices Victor charges you expect excellent service but it was subpar and very slow. Definitely avoid it here if you're a large group, their service is not suited for it If you wanna spend that much go to Blue Water Cafe and at least get high quality food and excellent service.. Started off well, but ended up not so great. My husband and I went into the Victor after we cancelled at Nightingale as it is close to where we live and the weather was not good. We were pleasantly surprised upon entering. It is a little bit out of the way in that you have to go the 6th floor of the Casino then go back outside cross an outdoor courtyard and then into the restaurant... all that said once inside its nice. The decor is mainly dark wood with pops of green in the padded booths - flanked by a bar on the right and a sush/oyster bar kitchen on the left. We ordered starters and mains. My starter was a delicious crisp endive salad. Great portion size too. We also ordered at the servers recommendation the macaroni and cheese waffle, in addition to another starter that I can't recall. My main was a good risotto, and despite asking to ensure there was no truffle oil or truffle in it at all I could taste it. It was subtle but there. Not sure what happened it was almost like they were in and then removed, I didn't know, all I know is I.could taste it. My hubby had a steak and enjoyed it, but without sides. It literally Comes with nothing. Here's where things are disappointing. The waffles were barely touched we had half of one quarter and the server at the end of the meal said something to us about the waffles and we told her we didn't care for them and they were left on the bill. A bit surprising, no service recovery on that at all. As well it was our anniversary dinner, something that our server acknowledged when we sat down, but it was surprising that a restaurant of this calibre did nothing to mark the occasion, at the very least could have removed an uneaten disliked item. The general Manager was wandering around the restaurant chatting with guests which was nice. Did the same with us, is a shame the same customer service spirit wasn't passed on to the server we had. She was efficient enough for most of the evening but came across as insincere and definitely unimpressed with 2 open table cheques. I let her know we would be tipping on the full bill. The evening ended on an awkward note yikes. This restaurant has some great things but definitely left a bad taste in my mouth. read more

Hello, I was dining in this restaurant with my boyfriend and we were celebrating the year of anniversary. That was really important for us to have this day special. When we came to the restaurant we expected to be in a nice atmosphere, get an amazing experience, and eat some great food. However, we were pretty disappointed with our visit. Almost every single item we ordered was freshed out, even when we had set menu sitting on the table for 30 minutes, just then our server came over to us and let us know that they didn't have 12 oz Prime Rib and just took the menu from our tables. When we finally ordered something, we were waiting 40 minutes for it, even though restaurant was half full. We ordered 2 medium rare steaks, my steak was fine, but my boyfriends' steak was underdone, so he asked to throw steak on the grill for longer. When we finished with them, we ordered 2 desserts, which also were freshed out, as server said, so it took 30 more minutes to get those desserts on a table while she was asking the Chef for it. As soon as we got home, my boyfriend started complaining about stomachache he was feeling (he only had a dinner and nothing else before the pain started). I needed to get some medicine for him because he was actually feeling very bad. I'm just wondering for what did we pay $250, for ruined anniversary? read more

Where was Victor when you needed him? We took a late dinner option at Victor. Despite calling on Wednesday the 8pm sittings were full so 9:30pm it was. We arrived slightly before 9:30pm and were told our table was almost ready. 20 minutes later we are still waiting and needless to say I started to get a little shirty, mainly because I feel in situations where you're kept waiting it should be communicated to you. The hosts seemed really confused, almost overwhelmed, but as we stood there for 20 minutes in our coats without a drink or a word otherwise, you roll your eyes and think "typical Vancouver". The host mentioned that we would be compensated for the delay. Anyway, eventually we were seated next to a table of five girls out on the town. I can not tell you how annoying that was. Up and down, up and down, up and down...like they were at a bar or something. We were two, coming for a late dinner and I can't tell you how annoying it was being sat next to that. The next thing you know other people were coming and sitting at their table. I'm not a buzz kill, but man I just wanted a dinner with some discussion but it kept being interrupted. This isn't really the restaurants fault as such, but they sit the tables really close together and I'm not sure why, the room is massive. I don't think parties should be sat next to couples, it's two different dining intentions entirely. The manager came over at the start of the meal to apologize for the delay. Our waiter was a nice guy. We ordered the porterhouse, I asked for it English cut and he didn't know what that was...but it did come sliced off the bone. The steak was ok, personally I've had better. It was a little under seasoned and under broiled on the outside. The inside was cooked very well however, but I did the week before have the same thing at Gotham, and it blew my mind (similar if not same price) Overall it was a nice experience, premium pricing for a feeling of being in a Cactus Club. There is something about Vancouver restaurants that want to hit the "cool vibe" - my suggestion, get your staff to chill out (frantic servers does nothing for a vibe) , change the music genre to something less mainstream and reduce the volume 20%, lose the aprons and matching uniforms. Service needs ironing out but so does the service in most Vancouver restaurants...it's always pleasant but lacks the experience of refinement, well rehearsed etc. Let's see where it's at in 6 months. What a gem! Beautiful interior. I was told that they will have a waterfall outside with lights in the coming months which I can only imagine being gorgeous. It'll definitely be a nice spot in the summer with the patio looking out to false creek. The food is delicious. Since Dine Out is going on I chose to go with the Dine Out menu which seems to mean mediocre to bad service at most places which is why I'm not giving them 5 stars. Especially given that I did order a $20+ glass of wine. The hostesses were sweethearts when seating us without a reservation, but our each time our server came around the level of service got poorer and poorer. I will definitely come back to try out their sushi bar...didn't get a chance to try it out. read more

Hubby took me to The Victor for our anniversary and I don't think there was a better place to celebrate! The food was delicious, atmosphere perfect and the service from Matthew C Sept 8th was the best we've ever had. We ordered the brut rose to drink, ceviche, caesar salad, oysters, surf and turf (husband said he cant go to the keg anymore as the quality was on point), and I got the whole lobster and crem brule donuts for dessert was a treat from the server. If anyone wants to celebrate something special or go out for a really nice bite to eat, I would suggest The Victor. read more

Tonight's experience was going to be a 1-star, the only reason for the 3-stars is because of the Manager who I felt was genuinely apologetic and tried to salvage the experience. Diners - if you are going for dine-out, please do not expect the same level of quality in any regard. Whether it's the service, the food, or the presentation. The food I had the bisque, the ribeye, and the chocolate thing. Bisque was good but the quantity was significantly less than regular, ribeye I admit I'm at fault as well as I didn't read the menu close enough (it is the Costco type cheap cut of ribeye and it was so chewy), dessert was ok I'm not a big dessert fan so won't say much about that. What really ticked me off was the service. I have never had worse service from Victor and I have been here several times. Service is normally always professional and knowledgeable. Tonight, I felt like the server just didn't care. Drinks weren't filled regularly, when I complained about my meal I was told I should've said something earlier when he asked how it was (I said it was "...ok.." after 2 bites), and at the end of the night with 12% courtesy tips not even a thank you. Victor, if this is the level of quality please do not participate in future dineouts, it is an absolute understatement of what Victor normally is. read more
