I recently attended a retirement party at The Village Inn ... Let me share a few details about the owner of this establishment. He is rude, arrogant,and does not dress professionally. As with many retirements, speeches were made, John proceeded to have a loud conversation right near the door with other patrons at the bar. When politely asked if he could kindly keep it down, he replied, "No" and proceeded to speak even louder. Mind you this was a party of nearly 70 guests. The food was taken away shortly after the guests had barely served themselves and the quality was poor. I personally cannot understand why his attitude is all that, because his venue certainly is not! I don't think it has been updated in a long time, bathrooms weren't very clean either. Would I ever consider another affair at this place? I would have to say a big NO just like the owner did when asked if he could keep his voice down. read more

Last Nights Dinner was spectacular, to say the least. Drinks for me very reasonable, my wife had a wonderful Cab. Apps Calamari, lightly breaded and tender. Entree's My steak was cooked and seasoned perfectly and My wife said she loved her pasta with sausage and broccoli rabe. Then desert, homemade donuts warm and fresh. worst food i ever had!! they advertised a father's day picnic all for $24.95. so you served yourself and they put an 18% gratuity to the bill! for what? the hostess was extremely rude. when we made the reservation we were told it would be in the back. she put us in the front at a table stuck in the corner. when we advised we were not happy with the table she didn't even acknowledge us. dont waste your time or money. the outdoor barbeque was disgusting. everything was burnt and overcooked. extensive salad bar was advertised, but it was pitiful. desserts were also not very good. ice cream was offered, but not what you would expect. cheap ice cream sandwiches. read more

Cozy atmosphere. High end presentation and taste at very good prices. You won't be disappointed. It is a place you can go when you want a special evening or you can go on a weekday when you want to feel special and yet not break the bank. Love the stuffed meatballs. We went there on Wednesday before thanksgiving, which is usually very busy night out and we were only people in entire place. Our waitress was a sweet older woman who was very good and attentive. Calamari app was decent, salads were drowned in cheap store bought dressing, main course was good. We had steak, cooked correctly and tilapia which was seasoned fine. Now the bill comes... and we have a restaurant.com voucher for $25 as long as you spend $50, our bill was $58. yet, Our voucher gets tuned down?! we get explanation we spent only 46$ on food and our glass of wine and a beer doesn't count towards the bill purchase (the fine print of the voucher says clearly : "minimum purchase total 50$" -doesn't say it has to be spent all on food). We asked to speak with owner, yet when he arrives he refuses to show us where is that info mentioned as we actually have phone out looking at details of deal. Then he says he can do whatever he wants and he doesn't have to show anything.... figure that out! so just to let you know what kind of treatment you can get if you deal with the owner of this place...DO NOT RECOMMEND! OWNER'S BAD ATTITUDE and LOCK of RESPECT -no wonder this place has no customers. read more

Been there a couple of times. Guitar player in back is nice for ambiance. Service was ok. Waitress seemed a little snippy towards dessert...maybe it was getting late for her. Apps were fine but steak was a mess....came out raw....sent it back and it came back slightly more cooked but still no where near medium. Great food hidden restaurant would never have tried without groupon coupon. Grilled Octopus appetizer and Sea Scallops dinner were delicious. I have recently attended a party here and I was so disappointed in every aspect. First the owner put the party I attended into a very small room after being told they could rent larger room. We were like sardines sitting on top of each other and if I weren't a guest I would have called the fire dept. The waiters and waitress couldn't get through to bring or take away food or drinks without bumping into guests who couldn't sit at the tables that should only seat eight but squeezed 10 people on. The big room was given to a party who had half of our guests and the owner was like a hawk watching over our room. The food was just so so, pasta had a okay taste but cold, the steak was tough and the vegs were hardly even warm. I dont know how a dinner there would be but after what they did to my hosts concerning this room and his behavior and the quality of his food, I would not recommend a party to be hosted here ever. read more

My husband and I had the pleasure of eating dinner here last night. The food (taste and presentation) and service are excellent! Their menu is very interesting and varied which added to the appeal. If I had anything negative to say about the restaurant it would be that the noise from the bar could be heard from the dining room which was mildly annoying. The Village Inn I remember from about 7 years ago has disappeared. I was impressed then, with the new chef/owner who cooked for me and my Mom when we were trying to decide on menu items for my Dad's surprise party in their great party room. The food was solid, even inspired. Now it seems ripe and ready for a Restaurant Makeover in every way. i dined with my family last night for a special occasion and for sure there were more misses than hits. First, the only hit: the olive bread was terrific. Hot, plentiful and tasty. We filled up on it because our food was taking so long. Now the misses: It seemed forever for our apps, calamari (just ok), grilled octopus (a few strands of octopus on a dead salad) and my sister SALTY soup special. (she couldn't eat it). When the salads finally came (it seemed like forever, maybe 45 min) we were dismayed to see more soggy mesculun salad dumped on the plate. Why bother is all I can say. Entrees not much better. The salmon special with walnuts and maple was ok. We ate every bite because we were starving, not because it was great. Mine was overcooked. My mother's Sea Bass was a mouthful of fish and lots of mushrooms. She seemed disappointed. My sister's tuna was not sushi grade but was prepared that way. She didn't eat much of it. And finally, the hangar steak was not just inedible, it was a holy mess. I can't even describe the texture of taste without getting upset. Slimy, rubbery, marinated to some otherworldy state.....UGH! It tasted like beef that was preserved in a package. Enough said. All in all, NOT GOOD. We should have known we were in trouble when we asked the waitress what was good and she admitted to not having eaten much of the food there. We got the check and hightailed it out. We won't be back. I guess I could give props to the bartender for making me a nice martini and for the wine list to be reasonably priced, but I am stretching. Casual, Friendly and Delicious! I like going a few times to a restaurant before reviewing. The other night we brought a party of 8 which is a very good way to truly judge a restaurant and the Village Inn was terrific. We were there to have a good time and our server really enhance the mood while delivering great timely service. The wine selection is extensive and runs a very wide price range to fit everyone's budget. Each and every course was delicious, my fish was cooked to perfection and melted in my mouth. Everyone at the table was more than pleased with there entree. My other half is very particular about getting her steak rare not medium rare, her entree came out again cooked to perfection and very delicious. Trust me this is a rare occurrence (excuse the pun) but more than half the restaurants we go to fail to deliver on the definition of rare. The only suggestion I might have for the restaurant is to serve their red wines closer to room temperature. You may want to order your wine early which is what I will do next time. My friend has always raved about this place. I recently bought a Groupon and tried it last night. Our waitress, Heidi, couldn't have been more attentive. It was thekind of night where you felt totally taken care of. I couldn't have asked for better service. Now, on to the food. For appetizers, we picked the stuffed meatballs and sesame chicken. My nieces ate the chicken so fast! They loved it and suggested they make it a dinner! The meatballs tasted like my grandfather's. Yes, they brought me back to a happy place! They were stuffed with ricotta and sausage. Just delicious! For our main meal, we chose the porterhouse steak, salmon, hangar steak and the short rib ravioli. Each meal cooked to perfection! Desserts consisted of the chocolate lava cake, the triple crème brulee and the brownie. Awesome! We have voted the Village Inn as our favorite restaurant! Had never been here but decided to give it a try because we had a restaurant.com certificate. Cute place, food was okay but told my husband during our meal that it probably wasn't worth coming back. Was seated next to a window that had such a horrible draft. Our legs were so cold they were numb. My pocketbook was on the floor up against the window and when I picked it up to leave, it was just about frozen. What really made us decide that we would never come back was the fact that after spending $100 for the two of us, we were told that we couldn't use the $25 certificate because it was a "holiday" (it was the Saturday before Valentine's Day). When I spoke to the manager, he was rude, rushed and acted like he could care less. I went back and checked out all of the terms and conditions and couldn't find anything about holidays. Anyway, I was able to "exchange" my certificate for another restaurant so all is good but will not be visiting the Village Inn again mainly because of the way the manager dismissed us. read more

I went there for a catered meeting on 3/20/14. The food choices were chicken or sliced steak. I ordered the steak rare. It came charred!. I asked for a rare portion and I was told they all are the same way. No offers were made to rectify the situation. The mashed potatoes were actually brown and cool on the inside. There was 1 piece of broccoli which wasn't more than an inch long. The pasta was served on a dich smaller than a saucer that you put under a cup. The table next to us received a full order of pasta which was 5 times the size of our plates...they just happened to be the heads of the organization running the meeting. The bread was nothing more than a loaf of italian bread cut in 2 inch pieces. It too was hard on the ourside, as if it was laying around. When we asked the server for soda, she pointed to 2 pitchers which were across the room by the window. She said, "It's over there". I recently had my daughter's surprise 30th birthday at the Village Inn. I was never so disappointed and upset in my life. The food was mediocre , the linens were dirty there were flies on the windowsill etc. The food looked like it was thrown together. The one thing that the guests and my daughter did love was the cake. I purchased that from the bakery in Wayne outside of the restaurant. In my package I was supposed to receive Italian cookies. They never came out till I asked several times for them. They were thrown a kitchen plate and put right next to my cake. My bar bill alone there was $965. So you can imagine what my total bill was only to walk away feeling so upset from a party that I planned for months. I work for very large school district. Needless to say I will never recommend nor go back to the Village Inn. The owner never once asked if I wanted any monetary compensation. I will be sure to tell everyone I know what my experience was at the Village Inn. I work for very large school district and I will be sure never to recommend this restaurant to any of my colleagues.
