The Waffle Spot is truly a San Diego hidden gem! This place has been around for as long as I can remember, I love the nostalgic feel as soon as you park next to Sir Waffleot! It's good to see that they appear to be reviving their image and going stronger than ever. Thanks to their recent activity on social media I feel that more locals are starting to revisit this Mission Valley gem...not just tourists who happen to be staying at The Kings Inn hotel they're connected to. They now offer lunch and dinner (not just at the Amigo Spot next door--who now has a happy hour at 4:00, which is awesome), we will definitely return to try that out next time! Their breakfast here is solid and better than ever! You can't go wrong with their famous churro waffle, which is sinfully delicious! My eggs were cooked perfectly and our sausage links were plump and flavorful. Their kids menu is great as well, any item for $9.95 makes it easy and a definite win no matter what your kiddos choose. Service was warm and welcoming. Both our server and busser were friendly and attentive as well. My son was excited when he recognized the busser from the last time we were here (last summer); when the nice gentleman acknowledged my son he said to me, "See mama, I remembered he was so nice, like last time." Good breakfast spot however food took a really long time to come out. This place was packed from the moment we got there. You can get on the waitlist before you get there so that's a positive. We had a large party, but since they have indoor and outdoor seating, the number of parties ahead of us went down pretty quickly. It did take a while to get our orders placed took even longer to get our food. Unfortunately, one of the last orders that came out was for one of the kids which you figured would be one of the first. I ordered the chicken and churro waffle and oh my God the waffle was so good and it came out with a half a chicken. They charge more to add a specialty waffle but well worth it because your waffle was so good. It was super surprised on how much chicken they gave. Chicken was cooked perfectly with a crunchy skin. I checked with others and they also love their food. Just the downside was the wait. Also, after our food came, I waitresses kind of disappeared, so it was a while before we got on our waters filled and could request any additional things we needed for our orders. The walls are covered in fan art and various fun waffle related decor. Lots to look at, you can even color your own waffle king and put it up. It is located on the main floor of the King Inn, you do not need to be staying at the hotel to eat here. Staff is very friendly, food came out quickly. The waffles were yummy, I tried the new lemon ricotta one and it was nice, I'd prefer more lemon flavor but thats me. The chicked looked so good, but when I bit into the drumstick it was a little bloody still, I spit it out and put it aside. The other chicken piece that came with it was cooked fine. I picked two mini waffles and asked for churro and banana nut, then found out they do not do churro on the mini and the bananas were not looking great for the other one. They make their chorizo in-house as well as their salsa and they were both amazing. I thoroughly enjoyed it. The plate was big enough that we split both things. Sitting at the bar is always nice - they refill your coffee constantly and are basically at your beck-n-call. They have a smaller room with retro decor. Our waiter was Omar. He was very helpful and friendly We ordered a mushroom and ham only that came with 2 small blue berry waffles to split. The portions are huge. It came with a side of breakfast potatoes that were the best I've ever had. I'm not a big fan of breakfast potatoes but these were amazing. The blueberry waffles were also really good The omelette was a little watery, but the flavor was good and had lots of mushrooms. We both got iced tea and it tasted fresh brewed. Service was absolutely horrible. When we got seated no one came to our table for at least 15 mins. We had to flag someone down to ask for coffee. When we finally got coffee and had our order taken it was at least another 20-25 mins to get our food..on top of that it was cold. This restaurant was fantastic! It is decorated with a 50's style diner theme. There are a few tables, several booths and a countertop that you can sit at From the time we entered till the time we left, everyone we came in contact with was very friendly. Our servers name was Paula, and she was absolutely delightful. She had such a positive upbeat attitude and was willing to do whatever it took to make sure everyone in our large party was happy. The food was also super yummy. I had the Chilaquiles and my sister had the churro waffle. We decided to share each other's dishes and I am so glad I did. The Chilaquiles was very good. I asked to have green and red sauce and Paula said you got it! The chips on the bottom were crunchy. The sauce was delicious and they even accommodated my request for egg weights. They are known for their waffles and I will say the churro waffle was an absolute masterpiece of flavor! I swear it tasted like the churros at Disneyland but better. The waffle had a light crunchy texture on the outside and a warm moist texture inside. There's plenty of seating because once the waffle spot seating area fills up, they open up the Mexican restaurant that was the other restaurant in the hotel for seating purposes. I will say you may have to wait, but the wait is definitely worth it. Your taste buds will thank you. I also felt that the prices were reasonable. It sets in the hotel lobby of King's Hotel on hotel Circle off the 8 Fwy in the Mission Valley area of San Diego. The restaurant is small and simple, but the food is fantastic! of course by the name you know they specialize in waffles. This was our first visit. We decided to try the chicken fried steak breakfast. It had a very healthy portion of chicken fried steak with plenty of white country style gravy. It also came with country style cubed potatoes mixed with sliced onion and bell pepper. We chose 2 mini waffles as our bread choice because how could you go to the Waffle Spot and not try the waffles?!?! #RookieMistake Everything tasted good. What a cute restaurant. It has that old school look and was decorated for the Day of the Dead. We came in for a late breakfast around 11:30. We were seated immediately by a very pleasant young hostess. Our server, Omar, was right on it. He was pleasant and helpful, not rushing us through our long perusal of the menu. The service was good and our meal came out quickly. They have a lot of tasty looking dishes on the menu. I chose the Machaca Burrito with the Ranchera Sauce. The Machaca was tender and moist, the sauce was delicious! And the burrito was Huge! My companion had the Machaca Benedict. Wow, what a treat. The portions are very generous. We stayed at the hotel linked to this spot. It was good. My kids loved it. The chilaquiles are decent as well, no spice to it tho. The wait was short. The only thing I wasn't happy with is that on the reservation link it asks if you're celebrating something special and I put it was my daughter's 6th birthday. Nothing special was done. The second time it was more packed on a Sunday morning but we were seated quickly. All staff here are friendly and there is plenty of parking. Food is fairly priced. It has such a cute family vibe. However, we were excited to try "the best waffles in town" but were left wanting more :( We went in and sat at the diner counter but unfortunately the seats at the counter was not plus size friendly. Even my bf who I would consider a thinner build felt uncomfortable in the seats. Luckily they share seating with the Mexican restaurant next door and were were seated there instead and felt much more comfortable. Now onto the food, the waffles are okay and everything else was okay as well. The coffee was okay, the service good but not great. They didn't check up on us often or even refilled our coffee mug (which is a number one thing I look for when I go to breakfast spots) . We left the place wanting more and a pricy bill. This place is so cute! I love the retro look. It's attached to a motel and the lobby is nicely decorated. Very cozy and warming. The staff in the restaurant were fantastic! While it is true I've never had a waffle. Yes, I know, I know. I've never had a waffle in my life. I will say that I do like the breakfast here at the Waffle Spot. For me, it's scrambled eggs, some potatoes, and a little bacon with toast. And I'm all set and ready to roll. I'll hit the road with my belly full. Ready to go. When you've satisfied the hunger, everything in the world is just fine. And in San Diego on a perfect morning where the sun's coming up over the east side of the city and it's still cool and there's little mist in the air and you look over the water which is saying good morning to the hints of sunshine on the harbor, the lazy boats and ships, no one is out and about creating havoc on the waves. Was looking for a lower key weekend breakfast spot for my family, and without a stressful parking situation, and I got all that and more at Waffle Spot. The Churro Waffle was literally a deep fried Waffle well-coated in cinnamon and sugar (amazing!). Bacon was thick and plentiful. Coffee was hot and strong (and they were happy to send me off with a fresh cup to-go). You get plenty of food for the price at Waffle Spot. Servers were friendly and happy to chat it up with my little kiddo. It's definitely family friendly. The decor is unique...some parts have been set up for ig-photo ops (I think?), but it just added to the already fun atmosphere. The restaurant is inside a hotel and doesn't look like much and seemed Ike a small, old school diner from the outside but they had a large dining area further inside that was large enough to accommodate our party of 15. Our waitress was excellent as she was very attentive and so kind to all of us. I ordered the steak and eggs and the steak was cooked perfectly.
