I dropped off my kid at Daycare and was on my way to work in Durham. The 205 freeway was a parking lot so I decided to cut across to the I-5 on city streets. Lo and behold I noticed that I was approaching 39th and Hawthorne; and I thought aloud, "Hey, I am near the Waffle Window!", so I turned right on Hawthorne and left on 36th and thar she blows! I searched the menu, and conferred with my inner desires and decided that the apple pie waffle was the one. But wait! What was this? Biscuit and Gravy? My entire DNA strand is intertwined with biscuits and gravy; my soul sings for biscuits and gravy, and for a moment the cloudy, rainy morning parted and small shaft of heavenly light luminated the menu. So I ordered that too. Because it was a typical drippy, cloudy morning in Portland (the kind I enjoy) I decided that I would try and eat these two boxes of apply, sausagey, whipped cream, gravy heaven in the car. So, first let me give the place a big thumbs up for ease of eating in a parked car! That goes far with me. The Apple Pie Waffle. I opened the box (see photo in my profile) and instantly my olfactory senses were excited by the smell of warm cinnamon and apple and the sight of carmel sauce over whipped cream. The waffle was every bit as heavenly as other Yelpers before me as described, it cut easy with a plastic fork and it went down smooth. I was happy and felt good for eating, but I was still a litte hungry and glad that I had another box of food waiting for me. Biscuit and Gravy. I opened the box and was pleasantly surprised by the smell of an herbed sausage gravy, something I have never tried. The biscuit looked good, a nice golden color (what wasn't covered in gravy goodness) and a light texture. The first bite was purely an attack on all my pleasure centers (for eating), and each bite after that was better. I know I cannot come here every single day, but I bet you I find a way to make it here once a week. read more

I ordered the The Spicy Bacon Cheddar Jalapeno Waffle that was topped with bacon, diced jalapenos a slice cheddar and topped avocado-tomatillo salsa. The waffle is slightly sweet and is a good contrast to the savoryness of the toppings. I wish I would have seen the entire menu, they have a waffle dipped in dark chocolate! Next time I am getting a few chocolate dipped waffles to go :) It was a nice day out so we sat at one of the tiny tables outside. When we arrived at 9:30 AM, there was already quite a line leading up to the bright blue window with a bustling but unseen kitchen. The tip jar was appropriately adorned with a picture of Leslie Knope, Pawnee's premier waffle enthusiast. We placed our order and went to the side of the building to find a picnic table. And then the waffles came and blew me out of the water. The medley of flavors and the sweet light waffle play together perfectly. I do have to say that these are the best waffles that I have ever had. I've been here on two occasions, and I felt like I got to appreciate the quality of these waffles a lot more this time around. I came on a rainy day and I got the standard Pearl Sugar Waffle, which was perfect. There's just something so satisfying about eating a warm waffle in the rain, try it some time! :D The waffle itself was doughy while being a little crunchy on the outside, and I loved the fact that it wasn't super sweet. However, if you are a sweet fan, you can always put syrup on it! The place is literally a window in a wall, but there's space outside to sit down and eat. If I'm ever back in Portland, I'm pretty sure I'm going to channel my inner Leslie Knope and eat all the waffles I possibly can. read more

(Honestly, I didn't even look at the savoury options.) Lotsa options to choose from, be it something fruity, berry, or chocolatey. I tried Summer Waves (on their Specials menu w/ white peaches + lemon panna cotta) + Blueberry Cheesecake and I preferred the former. Summer Waves was on the lighter side and nothing was overly sweet! Both were ~$4.50ea and look like a small portion, but it's perfect for 1/sharing, if you want to try different flavours. Apparently there's indoor seating, but I didn't see it. I only sat outside which is lovely when the weather cooperates! I'm glad we tried this place. It's in a funky, lively neighborhood in Southeast Portland. You literally walk up to a window (expect a line) and order your waffles. There are a few outdoor tables, but thanks to reading Yelp, I knew they also reserved a few in their restaurant for waffle window eaters. Since it was a chilly morning, we loved that option and easily found window seats inside. I had to try the bacon, basil, and brie waffle. It comes with apricot preserves. I probably wouldn't order it again, but not because it wasn't good. It was just so rich and so unique. Glad I tried it. Also glad, however, that my daughter and I shared the Oregon Strawberry waffle piled high with whipped cream. Glorious! and something I'd definitely order again. You'll need orange juice or coffee with it to wash down the sweetness. Found this place on Yelp and managed to stop by on a rainy afternoon- location was easy enough to find, with the bright signage and awning around the corner from the Ink Café. Rang bell for service, ordered the Tomato B waffle (tomato, brie, and basil) and a mint green tea lemonade. Total was about $10, wait was about five minutes. Sat in the covered area around back with ample seating at wooden picnic and wrought iron table and chair sets. The waffle itself was thick but light, with a sweet taste to it that wasn't overshadowed by the toppings. The acidity of the tomatoes and the creaminess of the brie worked well together, though I would have preferred a smidge more brie. The peach jam kept the tomatoes from being too acidic, and brought back the sweetness of the waffle itself. Every ingredient in this simple dish harmonized. The drink also was spot on flavor: sweet but a touch earthy, and brightened up with mint. I rarely drink anything other than water, and squirm a bit at paying $3 for a 16 ounce cup of anything, but it was an excellent drink that I savored on our drive home. It's a window, you order waffles from it. Concept is good, but the execution leaves much to be desired. The 3B waffle topped with egg was absolutely amazing. Unfortunately, to go with the waffle, I found their flavored lemonade to be absolutely disgusting. Portland sure loves their bitter drinks for some reason. My wife's coffee was atrociously bad (with coffee ground lumps floating about) and the self-service station was a messy wreck. The Bread and Ink cafe staff were not friendly at all (which prompted us to go to Waffle Window in the first place), so eat at the covered patio outside if you can and avoid those grumps. The Waffle Window staff were friendly but way too overworked to be attentive to their own dining areas. Maybe that fuels some of the drama with the cafe... who knows? I want to come back and try more waffle combos, but my wife hates this place and there are more convenient options around that won't cause marital strife. Omnomgod. This place is so absolutely simplistically fantastic. We have been here a number of times and have tried a number of waffles both sweet and savory. I simply cannot choose. My partner loves the ham and cheese waffle (I did too, it was uh-mazing) and I have had the Rose City waffle on a number of occasions (a seasonal waffle with amazing strawberries and rhubarb sauce and whipped cream with the classic pearl sugar). We brought family from Canada and the weather was nice, so we took a seat outside. We've sat inside many times, however, and despite being busy and sometimes crowded, it always works out just fine. This is like, the love child of an amazing food cart and an amazing restaurant. Their coffee hits the spot, especially with a sweet style waffle. For the quality and size of the food item you get, the price is ridiculously reasonable. I'd go there right now if I could, but it's a quarter to 11pm, and I've had dinner. TO THE (WAFFLE) WINDOWWWWW, TO THE WALL! An easy 5 stars. Portland is full of delicious spots, but I have come back every time to this little happy window when I'm in the area. That's pretty big for me, considering I always want to try something new. The service is friendly and fast. There's indoor and outdoor seating under a covered patio. You order first, literally at a window, and they'll call your name when your order's ready (which only takes a whole 5 minutes). To be fair, I'm gonna admit I'm a waffle person, but even if I wasn't, these would be the ones to convert me. They are cooked to perfection and everything always tastes fresh. My personal favorite is The Three B's (brie, basil, bacon) with a fried egg on top. It comes with a house made peach jam. UMPH! My boyfriend is the king of all things sweet and happily enjoyed his -- Blueberry Cheesecake. My other suggestion would be The Whole Farm, a combination of all things delicious and an alternate savory waffle. Whatever it is you end up ordering, you can't go wrong. Thank goodness for Screen Door and Waffle Window! These were the two saving foodie graces of our Portland trip. I was on the verge of leaving sorely disappointed with this "supposedly Foodie" town! I'm a sucker for Leige waffles and this place didn't disappoint! They serve waffles out from a window and the prices are very reasonable for the amount and quality of food you get. We ordered two savory and one sweet and in the end; I went back in line to get another order of the savory waffles. Spicy cheddar bacon jalepeno - OMG. The bacon was divine. This ranks up there... probably in second place for delicious bacon. (Founding Fathers artisan thick cut bacon in Washington DC still is ranked first!) The flavors melded perfectly and I'd go back in a heartbeat to order this again. The whole farm - I hate goat cheese but it was easily picked off. Again... Best freaking thing ever. I don't even know where to being. The Three B's was one of the most incredible treats I've ever had. Honestly, I'd put that on my top 10 list of best things of all time. I tried to explain the flavors coming together perfectly, but it was like explaining a fresh 15inch dumping of fresh powder to someone who doesn't ski. Visiting the area and looking for the best places to chow down and this popped on the list. We decided to stop by for breakfast, excited to order right away with the friendly cashier and super happy to find out that there was some indoor seating since it was raining. Took a seat inside and after a short time our waffles were ready for us on the counter. I'm a BIG fan of the Blueberry Cheesecake Waffle. The waffle itself was perfectly sweet with a little crunch and the blueberries were perfect! Not the mention the wonderfully fluffy whipped cheesecake topping, yum! The Peanut Butter and Chocolate waffle was pretty good, but didn't hold me down as much as the blueberry. Tastes exactly as it sounds, and is definitely perfect for anyone with a sweet tooth! The Spicy Bacon Cheddar Jalapeño was nothing to rave about. Kinda seemed like too many things all at once, and it ended up being a soggy mess. Hopefully you'll have better luck! This place is a MUST if you're in Portland! If this place was in California, I would be hittin up this joint everyday. It's that good. Love the concept of being able to order from a window. So casual and cool. They've got indoor seating too that is shared with another restaurant. Don't expect the tables to be clean though! And you bus your own dishes when you're done. Their waffles are well priced so the self service is expected. The Whole Farm is awesome. This waffle is topped with pepper bacon, mushroom, spinach, roasted pepper, tomato and marinated chèvre. This was my favorite! Everything was perfect. And they give a pretty good amount of spinach! But the bacon definitely stole the show. The 3 B's was also delicious. This waffle had Bacon, Brie and Basil and was served with our house-made peach jam. What an insanely wonderful combination. There was a such a perfect balance of flavors. Whhhhhyyyy!!?!!??? Can someone please tell me why??? Why, only in Portland do they sell this wonderfully fresh and delightful concoction of pure bliss!!?? Now I have to drive 3 hrs to address my addiction to this place, gads and the government is worried about drug enforcement? We had 2 waffles, one plain and the other the Razzle Dazzle, OMG, pure manna from heaven, sadly heaven is a 3 hour drive away from us... Fresh raspberries, with fresh whipped cream and a light drizzle of lemon curd, served on a waffle, I'm about to head back now just thinking about it... The waffle was kind of glazed, which kept it a bit crunchy during the 49 seconds it took my Dad and I to devour this heavenly morsel, while waiting for the kiddos to finish up shopping at Red Light across the way. They totally deserve all the hype they've been getting. We went on a very cold Saturday afternoon. There was quite a line when we got there, and I almost didn't want to stick around because it was THAT cold, but I also wanted to see if it was worth it. AND IT SO WAS. I got the Farm Fusion (mushroom, spinach, roasted pepper, tomato and marinated chevre), while my boyfriend got the blueberry cheesecake waffle. My waffle was perfect. The crispness and sweetness of the waffle worked really well with the vegetables and chevre. It was a great sweet and salty brunch. The blueberry cheesecake one was super rich, decadent, and delicious. I mean, it's pretty much a blueberry cheesecake, but with a delicious waffle crust instead. Also, can I just rave about how delicious that waffle was? That was my first Liege style waffle and I am sold. It's crisp, sweet, buttery, and F'ING DELICIOUS. I think I may order a plain waffle the next time I'm there because it's really that good all by itself. I am still thinking (and salivating at the thought) of that waffle. The coffees we had we delicious as well. I usually have to have cream and sugar with my coffee, but their coffee (I forgot the roasters) was good enough that I could enjoy it all by itself. Crispy waffle slathered with real Nutella, slices fresh pears on the side, and all drizzled with a tiny ribbon of caramel. The orange juice is fresh squeezed. My husband had the Bacon, Brie, and Basil waffle and I got a bite. It's my next choice. You can carry your treasure home or eat it on site. There are tables outside or you can eat in the designated checkered-tablecloth area inside Bread and Ink. Bus your table and leave a generous tip at the window. It's worth it. I paid $4 for my waffle, half what I'd pay for a crappy one drenched in fake maple syrup elsewhere. It's only the 3rd of the month and I've already had my entire month's carbs. The waffles here are better than any of the ones sold at a cart in Portland. The main difference in the quality is simply because of the waffle itself. WW's waffles are beautiful, perfect Belgian waffles, as compared to the denser and soggier waffles sold at a few different carts in town. The WW's menu also provides tasty and unique combinations of toppings, while at least one of the waffle cart's in town forces you to come up with your own. I prefer the savory flavors over completely sweet, and both the 3 B's (Bacon Brie and Basil) and the Ham and Cheese are incredible. Some of the tastiest food I've ever eaten. The Farm Fusion is good too, and probably a perfect choice for vegetarians, but it's hard to choose that over the meaty waffles! WW is quite affordable too. Food from either the Little Blue Waffle Wagon at 33rd and Division or Pine State Biscuits at 36th and Belmont will cost you nearly 30% more and be less tasty. WW never disappoints. For savory, I've had the Ham & Cheese and the 3 Bs (2 separate occasions, I'm not that fat =P) both were really good, I think i liked the ham & cheese better, simple but tasty. Probably the best place we visited in Portland. This place was very nice place. Make sure you look check where ur parking before you parked because a lot of people got parking tickets. When I ordered I didnt know what to get so I asked the clerk for recommendations. He said to get three types of waffles. · Savory bacon and waffles was to die for. I thought that it was probably the best waffle combination ive ever had. The sause that came with it went beautifully with the bacon and waffles · The whipp cream, banana, chocolate and waffles was also delicious. Ive had this combination before and this was way better than the first few times we had it anywhere else. · The brown sugar, whipp cream, berries, and waffles was amaaaaazing!!! I thought that the chunks of brown sugar was an overload of sweetness but its not a bad thing. The berries was so good with it too The area that we we could eat was a little dirty for my taste. I with they cud have bussed the tables more often. I thought it was pretty romantic that people carved their names and their bf or gf on the tables. It was a pleasent experiance to eat there but they should have someone wipe the tables more often because it felt sticky. All in all, I really wish this place was closer to home (SF) I will definitely come here again when I come to portland. It was ver delicious!! read more

Alright guys, the food is amazing but they are so badly organized at the window?????? The line is long, because they take an order and then spend 10 minutes calling out orders, dealing with the food delivery people, ect ect until they call the next person up to take their order... rinse and repeat. If your with a group and you want to pay separate- don't do it. 10 minute gap between your orders being taken. No exaggeration, I was watching the clock. The food comes out quick enough but they gotta find a cleaner way to do this. read more
