Went here for bingo a few weeks ago. Fun atmosphere, sat on the patio. Server was nice but they definitely have some kinks to work out. First let's talk about their wings: their Cajun wings were BOMB! Cooked perfectly, seasoned heavily like I like it and the flavor was great! I think they may be the best wings I have found in Castle Rock. The pizza was one with prosciutto & pickled onions. So good! The crust is on point. Cooked beautifully. Just trust me on that. The server took our order but never put it in so while our friends ate and drank we got nothing. Once we were able to track down the server, she blamed the kitchen which left a bad taste in my mouth (I'd prefer she just admit she forgot to put in the order) and when my friend's pizza came out 12-15 mins later, it was the wrong pizza altogether. She got pepperoni. So they had to remake it. They still get 4 stars because the food was awesome. I would definitely go there for takeout and plan to soon! read more

I went in for bingo night with my wife, loved it, loved the food and their margaritas are fairly good! So... we tried to enjoy a friday night there after having a fun time mid week, instead we got told by the owner, who was ABSOLUTELY PLASTERED that we were no longer welcome. We thought maybe we didn't tip properly on that bingo night, instead we were told its because my wife looked at the owner with a mean mug....my wife has never just looked at someone with an improper look with no reason before so this was confusing, we tried go head go The Library next door and instead of being able to talk for the 20 second walk, we got shouted at from their patio. Seems as if they pick and choose their crowd and friends inside the business. Never going back again, your personality is whats supposed to keep the bar alive. read more

We visited Whiskey Lodge on Friday night after hearing there was a new owner. It had been a while since our last visit, so we were excited to check it out. The night started fun, but things quickly took a turn. From where we were sitting (not part of the group involved), I noticed a man becoming aggressive toward another nearby group--yelling at them and eventually shoving someone, which led to a fight. As someone simply watching it unfold, it was pretty clear who escalated the situation. What was most surprising, though, was how it was handled. The owner appeared to side with the individual who initiated the confrontation and ultimately removed the group instead. Later, we heard that the man involved was actually a friend of the owner. From an outside perspective, the group that was asked to leave seemed calm and was minding their business before things escalated. Watching everything unfold--and seeing how it was handled--left a really negative impression. Unfortunately, that experience made the environment feel uncomfortable and biased, which is disappointing because the night had started on such a positive note. read more

We had an amazing experience here! The atmosphere felt warm and authentically Western, and the food was absolutely delicious--hearty, flavorful, and clearly made with care. The head cook came out to see what cheese we wanted with our pretzel and gave us both to try. The highlight was meeting the owner, Eddy, who was incredibly kind and took the time to chat with us. Went here last night for happy hour. The place was hosting bingo at 6:30. The bartender was the only person behind the bar and doing the best she could. The owners were more interested in socializing than helping her. The menu is average, the food is average and the owners are more interested in looking good than helping their employees trying to help customers. read more

Terrible new ownership. Went to play Bingo last night and have dinner at the bar. There was one bartender serving the entire restaurant, including a full bar on her own with no bar back or help from the owners who were close by watching her work her butt off. Really quite a disgrace to watch. Bartender was wonderful however it was very hard for her to keep up. The food was average. No real redeeming qualities and some of the worst food I have had in Castle Rock. The Whiskey Lodge is small and clean with a cozy feel, but on the night we stopped they had live music that was so loud that I literally could not hear our server. Despite it being uncomfortably loud our server was almost non-existent during our meal. The server gave us two menus that had different items and we had to ask which one was accurate. The food was atrocious, with queso that was congealed and cold and very clearly poured out of a can, nuked for 30 seconds and served. The burger was a pre cooked patty that had no flavor and was lukewarm, and the duck wings while good, did not save the rest of the meal. The prices they charged for the quality of food were an insult. There is no reason to frequent this establishment for anything other than a stiff drink. read more

The Whiskey Lodge was down the street from where we were staying and we decided one night to take a walk and check things out. It was pretty dead when we went and there was only one other couple so we decided to sit at the bar. The lodge itself is pretty large and has lots of seating. They have a large assortment of whiskeys that you can sample or you can opt for a cocktail. I tried the Peat Sake: Boubon, maple, bitters, scotch mist. It was good and I'd definitely get it again. If you opt for a bourbon, pour just note that the standard size is 2 ounces and not 1 ounce. So if you only want 1 ounce, you have to make that clear because the person that helped us did not and we were a little surprised at the size of the pours. Service was ok. The person who was working was a little snobbish. I don't drink a ton of whiskey and I pronounced the name of something incorrectly and was immediately called out on it which was a little embarrassing. We also asked about hours because we saw two conflicting times and we got our heads bit off because this individual was ready to go home. Maybe he was having a bad night but customer service is the biggest thing that could be improved upon. We'll definitely stop in when we are in the area again. read more

This was a good outing with a large group. We kind of took over the patio area and had a good time. I got happy hour pricing on the fried pickles (I recommend them, they were sliced like chips and had a little spice to them, old fashioned (strong drink), and Avalanche amber ale on tap. Everything was great and the only thing I'd improve on is some faster service and a couple of the fried pickles were mushy. I wish I tried their Nashville chicken or the rib tips though...maybe next time. The bathroom was clean and I liked the environment overall. I had a fun stop here with my wife the other evening after our son's HS hockey game. There was quite a crowd (likely due to the Starlighting ceremony downtown), but we were still able to get a booth and fairly quick service. Prices for whiskey "neat" is as expected in Castle Rock (2oz pours for most offerings, 1oz or 2oz for the higher sought choices). Surprisingly enough, Stagg 24A was on their normal pour list (I think I paid $28 to try that one... high, but I can never find that bottle anyplace I visit). Food is decent pub grub. I had some chicken wings and the wifey had cookies and ice cream (dinner of Champions! ;-) ...). Street parking is all around, but it is getting more difficult to find spots with all the construction going on around the area. read more

The new owners ruined the menu, jacked up prices, offer no new value and now no longer will give you water st the table you must buy a bottleed water, no because anything makes them do it but selling bottled water is more important than whisky. New owners are arrogant and entitled and looking for any way to screw over customers. Apparently they felt the old owners were leaving too much money on the table by not charging for water. Everything got way more expensive the moment they took over. When you go in with your wife and drop over 100 bucks between the two of you, you probably dont want to get nickel and dimed on water. We were having a great time. Actually told "Eddie" -who we thought we thought was the owner - he really turned the place around. We tried to order food at 9:00- they said kitchen closed. So one of the group went and got food- brought it in. Server said can't have that here: we asked to see owner-She came out "on fire". Said can't have outside food. One of our group said/ doesn't seem fair since we were told kitchen closed and bar open until 2. I LOVE the new Philly Cheese Steak Sandwich, best cheese steak I've had since I moved to Colorado, (from Philly). I had a couple of my wife's wings, the best I've had in Castle Rock, even the Denver Metro Area! Wow Guys! What could have been a bad experience was made into a magical experience! To start we were attending a prepaid fare for their Crawfish Boil. It was my first time and my friend's second time. By the get way, all was was very good. Recommendation is to get an early spot because the last reservation, which is what we had, is a little reckless. Now, don't get me wrong. A lot of inexperienced business owners and their staff may have dropped the customer service ball on a night like this, but not Sonia and her team. If you know, you know. Food was great/excellent! We ordered wings, ribblets, spicy shrimp, chicken fried steak, spicy cheese fries, multiple whiskey shots and beer on top of the prepaid ten pounds of crawfish. The only comment was that the ribblets were cold and we were made aware that the crawfish was over sold by 2lbs. We were full and satisfied. Then, we were informed we were sat late, so we were led to move tables because, surprisingly, there was an artist coming in to perform live music. Who doesn't love good live music? Tyler is very talented and performed some of my favorite songs. Cool thing too is he accepts electric tips. I wish more businesses and people did that. We had a party of 10, that's five married couples, and we all agreed we would do this again. It was like homemade VIP access. We were taken care of. We drank, ate and laughed in a high energy, well attended party. A side note: the 2 restrooms are single stalls, well stocked and very clean. Food was pretty good. The service was lackluster I don't think a lot of people in in that area, are up for being in the service industry.

We came in for a drink...or maybe more...on a Saturday night. Being just a few blocks from our house, it's nice to have this kind of neighborhood hangout nearby. A two-man 'band' provided music, and they were very good. As the name suggests, if you like whiskey, this is the place for you. The variety and complexity of the menu is almost overwhelming. I started with a traditional Manhattan, while my wife, who isn't a whiskey drinker, had the Colorado Bulldog. The Manhattan was ok, but I've had better. My wife liked the Bulldog, but it was a bit weird, so she didn't have another. Next, I went with the Bulleit Barrel Aged Old Fashioned. This more closely resembles my typical go-to drink, the Bulleit Rye Manhattan. On future visits, I'll likely stay with this one. My wife next created her own drink from other things on the menu. What she ended up with was a combination of the salted caramel cream and vodka. Guessing this is what she'll stick with in the future as well. Finally, I tried the peanut butter old fashioned, which had been the original drink I wanted to try when seeing the menu for the first time. It was ok, but probably a bit too tricked up for me. Service was consistent from start to finish. I give the one server credit. She served the entire bar, seemed to be moving nonstop, and never made people wait too long to be served. I'm guessing she's exhausted at the end of a shift and sleeps well at night. The one knock on this place that keeps it from getting five stars? The dessert. If your one dessert on the menu is going to be hot chocolate chip cookies, they should be hot, and ideally chewy, gooey, and delicious. While technically, the plurality of cookies was accurate, because there were two, for $7, I expected more. Also, they were cold, crumbly, hard as rocks, and difficult to cut with the provided silverware without the force used to break them causing the remnants to fly off the plate. Imagine old, almost stale, store-bought cookies with a scoop of ice cream and a drizzle of Hershey syrup on top, and you get the idea. Looked much better than they tasted. We won't bother for the next trip. Perhaps next time, we head next door to Crush for their sticky toffee pudding when we're ready for dessert. read more

My husband and I love this spot. The location almost constantly has something fun going on. They have a wonderful whiskey selection and the people that work there are very nice. The environment is inviting warm and very down to earth it doesn't hurt that they know how to make a wonderful old-fashioned. We especially like going on Thursdays when they have local whiskey samples and distillers. It's such a fun location and it's a great place to grab a drink when you're waiting for a prescription to be filled at the CVS next-door. LOL read more

The bartender had camped out with his laptop and notepad in front from the fireplace which had no heat coming out of it. It was freezing in there. I asked the waitress and she said oh no I can't do anything about the heat as it's automatically controlled.Wrong... as my second attempt talking to the bartender. He said he turned up the heat. Just the two people shouting a conversation at the bartender... they were so loud- over the top loud. The wings were so tiny as to be almost meatless, absent of celery,carrots. My son and I found this place while exploring his new Castle Rock neighborhood in the late fall of 2021. We sat at the bar and chatted with the bartender while enjoying his recommendation of a Stranahan's Old Fashioned and a beer for round two. They have an excellent selection of American whiskeys, a carefully curated smaller selection of Scotch, Irish and Japanese whisk(e)ys, and a nice selection of beers on tap. A few weeks later my son and I returned with my wife and sat a table for drinks and lunch. My wife and I split a fried mushroom appetizer which was delicious. Each of us ordered the delicious-sounding Mountain Man Burger, with a blend or bison, elk, venison, wild boar and antelope meat topped with green chili. The burgers came out and unfortunately were like biting into a hockey puck. The waitress gave an embarrassed laugh when my wife sent hers back and ordered a pizza instead. She later explained that their usual cook was out that day. The stand-in cook came out and apologized for totally overcooking our meals. If I order the Mountain Man burger again I'll make sure to get it medium rare, as it was almost inedible on that second visit. Other than the surprisingly overdone, tough-as-an-old-boot burgers I've enjoyed everything about this place. I will give them another try, and maybe order the game sausage platter, which sounds great. If my second meal is a good as I expected the first to be, I'll update my review and re-rate this place as five stars. One off day in the kitchen doesn't wreck the place for me. read more

My boyfriend and I brought my dad here for Father's Day. It was our first visit and it won't be the last! It is a great little place with an impressive liquor menu. We had one of the old fashions, a blackberry smash cocktail and some moonshine and all were great. The food menu is pretty limited but what you'd expect for a bar. It all tasted great though. My husband and I have tried this local bar a few times during the past two years. Overall, the drinks here are good and the service is friendly and prompt. It has a nice neighborhood bar kind of atmosphere. However, the food here is mediocre. I haven't tried anything here yet food wise that I would say warrants more than a B- grade. If the food was better, I would be more motivated to visit this establishment more often. Stopped by for some pre-dinner drinks. I was warmly greeted upon entering by Chris. I sat at the bar and enjoyed some old fashioneds on Happy Hour. They were well made - yes, it is possible to mess up an old fashioned, but these were great. Chris is a rock star and was great at holding things down as they got progressively busier. They have food, which I didn't have, but it looked good. They were having a bingo night, which was starting just as I was leaving and the place was packed! I would definitely return when in the area. Great place to hang out and relax...plus they had an awesome band playing !! The group is called "These Guys" and they play 60's,70's,80's,90's, and 2000's pop rock and even some country and even Prince!! The story was that I came for happy hours from 3-6 pm for $5 old-fashioned whiskey. As you see a receipt shows a time. That's before 6 pm which is still $5 a happy hour price. That's why I came and I kept looking at the time to make sure it was before 6 pm. What they charged me was $60 I immediately asked a waitress and said just the price it is. I had no time to argue because I didn't want to start the problem. So I paid for it and left. I will not come back to that place ever again. read more

This place was full on a Saturday night with seemingly little to no social distancing or spaced out tables happening. Only one staff person (our waitress) was noted to be wearing a mask....both bartenders, all other wait staff and any other staff were not wearing masks. They were also not enforcing customers wearing masks, whether it was customers walking up to be seated, customers walking around the restaurant, etc. and there was no signage that I saw posted anywhere about the state mask order. I didn't notice all of this until after we had ordered (we were close to the door and the booths are kind of high) or else we would have left because I was highly uncomfortable. Aside from the above, we unfortunately still did not have a good experience. The service was not good and everything took a really long time, from ordering drinks (we just got water) to paying. We got fried pickles that didn't taste fresh (and weren't that hot, so probably aren't), the bbq sandwich which my husband said had "16 pounds of sauce" on it, and the duck wings which were overly sauced and super super sweet. I could barely finish them (I honestly only finished them because I was paying for them and they are pricier). Nothing was super hot and I'm not sure if that's because it wasn't fresh or because it was waiting too long for the wait staff to get it, but either way wasn't great. We may have given this place another chance for service and food since it was a busy Saturday night but due to their handling of COVID, we definitely won't be back even after this pandemic has passed. read more
