Have ordered twice now. First time, was Chicken with eggplant and Sesame trio, both were very good. Second time, Shrimp lettuce wraps, Cashew Chicken, and Singapore noodles. Wasn't a huge fan of the lettuce wraps. It was basically chopped water chestnuts with barely any shrimp. :( The Singapore noodles were nice and hot but could use a little more curry flavor. Will try more items because we enjoyed the first order. read more

I got takeout from The Wok in Westley Chapel. I should have known that when I walked in the door and smelled "old grease" that I should have walked out. The fried rice was old and the lobster bisque was yucky. The Shrimp was cooked well and good. I also got an egg roll that tasted like it was a frozen one with just cabbage inside. I do not recommend. read more

Best Chinese take out restaurant in Matthews, North Carolina. High food quality and fresh vegetables and affordable also. Quick service as well. Respectful of vegetarians too - order of vegetarian fried rice contained eggs and it was immediately replaced. Has indoor seating too for those who wish to dine inside. read more

I had their pork fried rice and it was very bland. Not very much pork and didn't even taste like pork fried rice. Also had the House lo Mien which was not tasty at all. The ingredients seemed ok, but there wasn't much flavor. Overall, a very dissatisfying experience. read more

Better than average fast take out Chinese. They have a few tables, but they are mostly a take out restaurant. I am never unhappy with what I get here. I am also never over the top with what I get here. It is consistent, they are pretty quick on making your order. They do care about your satisfaction. It is quick and easy for us, so we visit once a month or so. read more

This place is the definition of sadness. Imagine a place you would go, for happiness to die. With 100's of restaurants to choose from, this one is not it. We visited at 11am on a Wed. No other diner visited during our 50 minute visit, obviously because the locals know better. The restaurant is painfully worn and dilapidated. The interior hasn't seen attention since the Bush era. Old tube TV's, handwritten signs and general storage decorate the interior. They have no take-able menu, just a community menu that sits at the counter for you to awkwardly review while they wait for you to order. To say this was the worst Chinese of my life, would be a reach, but it was painfully close. A bunch of frozen junk, coated in more sugary syrup. My General chicken was 10 pieces of small "chicken" covered in gloop, with 1lb of very old rice. The balance of the meals were equally lack luster. Just avoid this place and go anywhere else. They obviously don't care about their establishment or the food they put out. read more

I was surprised that after paying over $12.00 there's was no egg roll included. Lots and lots of carrots.... small container and very small portion of steak and shrimp. My sister recommended this place after I told her I was craving some Chinese carry out. This place is nice and I will return here again. I ordered to-go and had to make a last minute change. The lady I spoke to was really nice and friendly. The inside of the place is clean, and while they aren't currently offering Indoor seating, you can tell they're taking precautions to keep the place especially clean due to the pandemic. The egg drop soup was delicious, not to runny or thin, and perfectly hot. The dumplings were also delicious, fresh, not greasy, and served with a sauce that had a delightful sesame gingery kick. I wasn't a fan of the crab Rangoon, but the flavor wasn't terrible (just not my fave). I will definitely return here for carry out. read more

I'm really giving them 3.5 stars. Solid food at a good price. Good portions too. I had the house fried rice which was fresh, tasty and full of life. Chicken wings were over cooked but had great seasoning so I ate most of them. Dumplings were great. I'm going to give the wings a second chance. Overall not a bad place to go for fast Chinese food. Stopped in for lunch today and the place was pretty full. I ordered the shrimp lo mein and the sesame chicken with fried rice. Usually they have the best lo mein to me but today it was just not that good. I'm not sure what they did different but it was not that good. The sesame chicken was the best part but some of the chicken was fried too hard so it had a crunchy texture to it. I always test how good the fried rice is by if I have to drench it in duck sauce for it to taste good and with their fried rice that's exactly what I had to do. Overall I was disappointed with my meal. I will give them another try though, maybe they were just having an off day. read more

I'm still not Happy about the fact that they said that I was complaining too much when my egg foo yun was super oily and the refused to do anything about it, simply told me not to order it again. That was really bad customer service but the food is good here...at least the fried rice and the wings are. I've had A problem with consistency in the past but for the most part I've been happy with my experiences at this establishment. read more

Normally OK for Chinese take out at lunch. Popped in for apps at 8:45pm Crab Rangoons were great...Fried dumplings had dried out edges with no color...never seen that before, so can only conclude they were reheated. Eggrolls were cold. Probably taken out of a warmer, not cooked to order read more

Our go to for take out Chinese as its conveniently located off 485 which is easily accessible when heading home. The food is pretty good I haven't had any issues since we discover this place. The only issue we have is the fact that there is NO really NYC or Chicago style Chinese take out spots in NC. We LOVE some good Chinese that make you want to go every night(but don't go) and here in the QC we have been VERY UNSUCCESSFUL in finding that place but we have found light comfort and convenience in The Wok. We only ALWAYS order the spicy green beans which is stir fried with tofu and I believe chicken but we always say LEAVE OFF the chicken. It's pretty flavorful and we like it. My daughter stamp item is the shrimp fried rice only and that's what she orders rah and every time. So as you can see we stick to two items and maybe one additional item like the spicy mix seafood mix minus the squid. This is only once in a while when we feel like exploring the menu a little more just don't want anything to turn us off so we stick to the regular items :-) read more

Closest Chinese restaurant to my house, so I typically use it. Food isn't all that great, but not terrible either. Somehow they manage to make a meal in under 30 seconds, meaning they're quick and efficient. Prices are pretty cheap. There is seating inside though the place doesn't exactly feel all that clean. read more

Decided this is the last time we order here. Nasty General Tso's Chicken with a sort of undercooked doughy batter on the exterior (yuk!), nasty over cooked broccoli (I love broccoli florets and am very bummed when bad cooks ruin one of God's great gifts - beautiful broccoli), the fried rice is literally not as good as the generic stuff sold in the freezer bag at Trader Joe's, and the spring roll is soggy rather than crisp. Plus prices are high at The Wok. Finally, every time I request "extra spicy, please. Like as hot as you guys make it." Every time I get bland, no hot Chinese peppers or other spicy pepper sauce. If I wasn't so hungry, and against waste, I would have thrown the entire thing in the garbage can. Yuk! Never again even if it's just around the corner. It is difficult to find really good, high quality Chinese food close by... so I have tried several of the little take-out places in the 28277 area. I recently tried the Wok for takeout and found it to be pretty solid. I ordered Kung Pao Chicken and the chicken and sauce was good. I wasn't thrilled about the mix of veggies they used, but it wasn't bad. I got a meal that came with an egg roll and it was not the best egg roll, but I really prefer spring rolls anyway. I went back for take out a second time and this time I got the garlic chicken with brown rice. It was not as good as the garlic chicken at Wan Fu, but I would order this again when I am looking for quick takeout close to home. read more

Didn't understand the 90 sanitation rating, used to be our go to Friday pepper steak and chicken fried rice place. Never really tried anything else. Quick, close by, reasonably priced. Never an issue. Until our last visit, and will never go back. Had eaten about half my fried rice when I saw something shining in my bowl. It was a staple. Gross. So I called them to let them know, maybe be more careful, they could not have cared less. Since they didn't care, neither do I. You ARE the weakest link. Goodbye. read more

The Wok is pretty good for fast food, takeout Chinese. They are very accommodating and quick. It's not the best Chinese around, but it's probably the best in the "fast food" arena. Everything is served in styrofoam containers, for dine in and carry out. They use a bit too much oil, but you can request less. read more

Overall, this was just another disappointing Chinese takeout restaurant in North Carolina (surely I'll find a good one eventually!). The food was subpar and they forgot to include everything in our order. I won't be going back. We've been going for 6 years --but i've noticed that the vegetables that are part of the dish are very little, example kung pao chic only had like 2 broccoli florets. Fried rice was not as good as other restaurants-hardly any vegetables included --in fact i think two of our portions had only 2 peas --you couldn't find any onion, carrot, etc. Seemed like rice wasn't really a fried rice -just white rice with soy coloring --no flavor. My expectation was more visible chunks of veggies and a little crunch in the rice via wok frying. My only comment is that the quality hasn't been as good over the last couple years. Service is good and there is certainly a lot of take out -but i wish they'd go back to former quality. Portion is substantial (lunch same as dinner) and certainly enough to have leftovers.

Despite that, the restaurant is absolutely packed every weekend, so clearly it has a loyal following. Having experienced incredible dim sum in places like Sugar Land, Texas, and especially throughout the San Francisco Bay Area, it's hard not to compare. Those spots set a very high bar, and unfortunately Open Rice Metropolitan doesn't quite measure up.

The price was higher than I thought it would be by a significant margin; I thought something was off but then rechecking their menu I saw it was indeed $20 for a vegetable entree. On the upside, they did offer brown rice at no extra charge. Still, I'll get three meals out of it and as someone who eats a lot of takeout, this was not a great value. In terms of quality, I was thrilled to find that they offered a stir-fried okra dish. This is a ubiquitous Indian dish, and of course okra is common throughout the tropics globally, but I'd never seen this offered at a Chinese restaurant before. And the rapid cooking technique typical of the cuisine produced a delightfully crisp vegetable, which went great with a black bean sauce and some very hot dried chilis. On the other hand, their interpretation of ma po tofu had some fermented broad beans but minimal vegetables (sometimes you get mushrooms or peas or at least some leeks or something) and no numbing sensation. They had a bean curd roll dish that I enjoyed, and some quality dumplings. Overall, not huge portions and a mix of okay to great quality.
