This used to be an amazing bar with great drinks and awesome bartenders. Came in on a Saturday night and was completely ignored at our table along with the rest of my party. There wasn't enough help, no one ever came by our table to take our order. When we went up to the bar to ask for water, the bartender seemed annoyed and made a comment that "he was busy running the bar". Previous bartenders are gone, and the whole drink menu has been revised. Strange ingredients are in the drinks now, like sesame oil in a coffee drink. You can literally see the oil floating at the top of the drink. Drinks are horrible and the personal attention we used to get is gone. I have referred many people to this location but will now spread the word about how this bar and its atmosphere has changed. read more

Stepping through the door I felt the coolest, most sophisticated version of myself showed up. The staff all look like the most popular kids in school, while treating me like their long time friend. We had two signature drinks that were tasty, and the atmosphere resembles a cool movie. Everyone was having a great time. Maybe they were pumping happy gas into the air. (They were not) I don't have a long history with bars, so when I commented on how cool the ice cubes looked, the bartender took the time to explain to me the subtle differences in high quality ice, and cheaper fast ice. I feel my ice questions were maybe eye-roll inducing and cringe worthy, but again, he treated me like a friend. There's lots of seating and an upstairs balcony area, and outdoor patio. I tried 2times and they kept dropping the ball. First time, after my second drink I asked to close the tab and they said I never gave them my credit card to keep it open. I didn't argue, just told them that I was sure I gave it to them, kept denying so I just ignored for a bit without ordering anything else for an hour and asked again if they have it. No again, that I MIGHT BE DRUNK. So they started closing the place and all of a sudden they found it in their register. No apology. 2nd time was New Year's Even and they never gave us the complementary champagne glasses to cheer the new year so the person next to us felt so bad that gave us his champagne flutes when the countdown was already happening. This is a very cool bar in DTLA. It's a blink and you'll miss it if you are walking by. However the interior is very cool. My boyfriend and I did a cool walk through when we first walked in because the architecture and design are very intriguing. My friends have been here before and told me that they decorate a lot for Halloween, so I think i'll have to come back and see it. Their happy hour menu is pretty good and also has a lot of house drinks. They have some good appetizers to share. We got the flatbread and the fries and were pleasantly surprised. A friend of mine recommended this bar for its drinks and we were not disappointed! I was a little skeptical after reading the ingredients but they were delicious. I had the "Let them talk" which is brandy based with ingredients like mushroom and celery and it was blended to perfection. Another great part is the ambiance itself. The old classic decor makes you feel very relaxed and care free. There was 90's music playing loud enough to hear it but not too loud where you can't carry a conversation. Came here before a show in DTLA and was not disappointed. It's a wonderful 1900's style bar and it is lovely, but a little small. We got there at 5:20 and by the time we left it was almost full. They have a $2 off cocktail hour on their starred menu items so definitely take advantage of that! Now, to the food! It was incredible!!! The croque was a rich delectable treat, described as an "adult grilled cheese sandwich". It did not disappoint. I would come back just for that! Ask for all of the toppings on the pomme frites instead of choosing just one! They were great and they gave you a solid portion! The eggs were our least favorite but were still very good. Icing on the cake is their level of service - best service I have received at a bar EVER. We were a group of nearly 20 people (if not more) on a Friday night and team at The Wolves were literally so amazing. They treated us so well and really catered to us - Caleb is the ABSOLUTE BEST who helped us with seating **and** with managing our tab. 3.5 stars (reluctantly) The Wolves is located in an old hotel and it has a really nice vibe. There's even a balcony that faces Spring street. There are (tight) booths along the wall across from the bar and some tables throughout the room as well. The feeling is of an old-school bar, except for the piped r&b music, which is kind of loud and a distraction. We ordered a cheese plate and a charcuterie plate. The former was a bit mingy but not too much so, and the latter was more than generous. Where they did stint, however, was on the bread: 4 baguette slices per order. Really??? We asked for more bread and it arrived promptly but more on that later. The pates and cheeses were excellent and it would've been nice to have more of that fig jam on the cheese platter, we got a teeny bit. Same goes for the Dijon mustard on the charcuterie assortment, a mingy splat. The wine list is a bit gougy but (again) I get it; that helps them keep food prices manageable. The white Burgundy was nice, but not a $60 bottle by any means (retail is around $17 and they get it for way less). Service was courteous and knowledgeable, the stemware is lovely, and there are cloth napkins and decent silverware, too. They give you these smallish pewter platters and I would've preferred salad-sized china, but oh well. The real surprises came when the bill arrived: we were charged $5 for the extra bread (listed as "baguette", which it wasn't, wtf???) and the last straw was a 3% "Health Care Service Charge"; again, wtf??? This turned what had been a pretty good dinner into kind of a bummer. Five dollars for a sliced-up roll is an expensive joke and if you want to give your workers health care just jack your prices 3% and leave it at that. We won't be back. read more

Not sure what this location was previously but it almost gave us church vibes . The drinks were tasty and very unique . The food in the other hand was so salty . Well to be specific the meat of the burger was too salty to eat . I couldn't eat it but I gave it to my bf . Men eat anything when they are hungry haha . Girls night on a Thursday? Why yes, girls night any time of the week! We were kindly welcomed and greeted by a super cool greeter. Thank you for starting our night out with smiles and such a cool attitude. Once we walked in, we weren't sure how to find a spot to sit. Whether we needed to wait to be seated or if we needed to just grab a place ourselves. Thankfully one of the waiters let us know that it's all up for grabs so we scoped the place out to see where to sit. When our waiter mentioned that there was an upstairs, we decided to go for that! We found a table up stairs on the balcony over looking the bar/restaurant which to be honest, I highly recommend. It's quiet and private up there, perfect for gossip with your girlfriend or a nice quiet date. Our waiter was super awesome. He was nice and patient with us. He made sure we always had water and ensured that our cocktails didn't spill while going up the steep and curvy steps. Our drinks were filled to the brim and although we were upstairs, he made sure to come in to check in on us every now and then to make sure we didn't want to order more. We ordered the 1920 cocktail which consisted of rye whiskey fig, orange bitters, sweet and dry vermouth. It was served in a cute coupe. We ordered some fries to share with the spicy aioli (so good! and perfect to much on while chit chatting). We also ordered the ratatouille that was served in a very vintage adorable plate with a side of toasted bread to dip. Before eating, I wanted to make sure to wash my hands and let me tell ya.. they have the CUTEST sink faucet ever! I am so in love with the decor and vibe this place has. Feels ol' timey and classy, very 1920s. Although the decor was 1920s like, the music was not lol. I wish they were playing something to fit the atmosphere of the place rather than hip hop but I guess it was Thirsty Thursdays after all. On our way out, I wanted to look up where to walk too to our next spot to make sure we were safe and not distracted while walking (it is DTLA after all so please be safe and vigilant). I was standing next to the greeter outdoors looking up directions to our next location (The Varnish). He was so kind and so caring to let us know where to walk too and how far to go. He also made sure we didn't go too far past a certain street since that's where it can get a bit more sketchy. Let me tell ya, the fact that he was so kind and sincerely cared for us, this place has my heart and my business! Thank you so much for being so great to us and making sure we had a great time and were safe! Parking here is a bit complicated. There is street parking but good luck with that. We parked at a lot and just walked toward The Wolves, not too far of a drop but since we decided to be safe and save time by parking in a lot, we did pay the price for it.
