Decor Once opening the first door you turn left opening next the "main" door to The Works and right in front of you will see a stuff toy claw machine and a few quarter gumball machines as well so it can grab little kids attention. The dining room has a more older look to keep the original look it had since when it first opened in 1978. They use an older style menu that's on the wall and it is made up with a bunch of small white letters and a blackboard as seen on the picture on the right side. This is a nice place to bring your family for some lunch. Service If I were to rate their service from 1-5 I would rate it a 5 because as soon as you walk in they are ready to take your order with a good welcoming and a big smile. They don't take long to get your food ready and if they ever do it's always worth it in the end because the food always comes out tasting delicious. I ordered a gyro plate with extra pita and my total came out to be $8.49 which to me was a great deal for the amount of food I got. The waiting time to get my food took about 6 minutes and my food came out really warm and tasted fresh. The staff were very friendly and so was the owner that works there as a cook as well . Food description They lay out a big tray and start placing the food on it first they place a wide flat plate and put gyros on it then on a separate plate they place 2 warm pita breads with their delicious homemade sauce that contains cucumber. Also depending on you they also add spicy peppers if you ask for them with no additional cost. I really enjoyed my food because there was many flavors it had to it. The gyro has a fresh taste to it but, just a little too greasy other than that the rest tasted great. I love the pita bread a lot because the way it is cooked is different from other places because they actually cook the pita unlike other places that don't. The bread is warm and round with a bubbly soft texture to it. The gyro is cut into thin even slices. Atmosphere The inside of the restaurant has an older 90's look to it with all the old newspaper articles on the wall and the equipment they use when serving your food. The vibe you get once entering is a happy and relax one because you feel comfortable as soon as you walk inside because the staff that cooking always greets you and they always maintain a smile on their faces while attending your order.I would recommend this place for lunch to anyone who loves Greek and American food. Location The works restaurant is located in a strip center on golf road right next to Walgreen's and right in front of Washington elementary school. It's pretty hidden because the lettering from the outside is in small font so many people pass by and do not enter but the people do stop by never regret it. WOW all of these 4 and 5 star reviews are puzzling me. Went to The Works today because we were near by and we were thoroughly disappointed. This place is not good. First of all the service was pretty bad. The guy insisted we pay in cash, when we didn't have enough and had to pay with a card we got major ATTITUDE from the creepy guy working the register. After our order I went out to my car for my phone while my girlfriend ordered a coke. The guy was calling my girlfriend "baby" and being overly creepy. Not cool and I didn't find out about this until we left. The place is a dump in a really sketchy old strip mall. There are tacky paintings inside And on to the SUBPAR gyros. We got the 1lb which was $13 not $9 like other reviews mentioned. The gyros themselves were average and seemed greasier than most gyros I eat. The onions were NOT FRESH and the tomatoes were cut so thick they'd fall out of the gyro. Also, maybe the WORST cucumber sauce i've ever tried. The pitas were the only good part of the meal. Sorry, Yelp, but you failed me this time. If you want a real, delicious gyro do yourself the favor and take an extra 5 minute drive to WALLY'S in Park Ridge where you won't be disappointed. read more

I've been coming to The Works since I was a wee one, since my grandmother lives within spitting distance. The gyros - oh lordy, the gyros. Perfect. Loads of perfectly sliced meat, tzatziki, and fixins. They do something magical with the pita, too - nicely crispy. It's a meal, it usually drops me into an hour-long food coma within 10 minutes or so, but it's a damn satisfying coma. Oh how I love the Works. I've evolved my tastes over my time going here from the hot dog & fries to the every famous gyros. You must go for the Gyros. The pita is absolute perfection. I always get an extra one on the side to enjoy in all it's glory. But let's not forget the huge portion of gyros that goes in your sandwich. I have yet to find a larger portion for that price ANYWHERE. And yes, the same guys behind the counter work there all the time. I've only been going there for about 4-5 years, but it's still the exact same in every way. I think their newest renovation was an ATM machine. We love The Works! They have a lot of great food on the menu but I almost always end up with gyros with everything and cheese fries. The fries are the perfect size and are always fresh and hot. The sauce for the gyros is amazing. My son loves their hotdogs and chocolate shakes. I've had the salads as well and the Greek dressing is great. The guys behind the counter are friendly and keep things moving along. The space is a little smaller but has quite a few tables and they keep it clean. We don't get in as often as we used to, but still make the drive north every once in a while for a treat. read more
