Latte - Unsweetened normally but I put some raw sugar and cinnamon in it and it was delicious. I can't tell if it was the espresso itself that was good or the add-ins that are naturally good. *Note: The bathroom is absolutely disgusting and so small. It reeks like a subway bathroom. Great coffee shop to study at. They have a front area where the cashier and barista are located at along with a couple of seats but they also have a back section with many tables and chairs. My friend and I arrived at around 12:30 and had no trouble finding a table but when we left at around 4:30 the place was packed and our seats got taken the minute we got up. The drinks here are pretty good as well. I got a large Spanish latte for $5.50 and it did not taste watered down at all. Music wasn't too loud but not exactly ideal if you're looking for a quiet study place since people are having conversations as well. Bathrooms were not dirty. I have always sung the praises of Think Coffee, but I've just gotta dock a star for two reasons: 1. There's no A/C. Yes, I realize you're basically an NYU hang-out so why bother investing so much money for A/C you're only going to use in the summer when there's no NYU kids around, but Jesus Christ it is hot as balls in there! I sat shvitzing for an hour today convincing myself I would just get used to it, but no - it's just too hot. Seriously people, I can hear you bitching about how all the CD's are skipping "today" but this has been a problem for a while. And when it's happening with EVERY disc you put in there, that's a problem with your stereo, not your Pearl Jam CD (which I'm sure is from 1992 anyway). Actually, don't fix it, just rewire your speakers and plug in an ipod. This is 2008. Get with it. Perfect place to stop along during a coffee shop wi-fi hop. Walking into Think Coffee, I was amazed at how HUGE it was. There were tables + bar and stools on the left side of the entrance .. tables + chairs on the right side 2nd "floor" .. and a lot of tables + chairs + couches in the back area. There is a nice selection of beverages and food. The coffee was ok. I got a single shot of macchiato- didn't feel a thing. Wi-fi is pretty good. They have their own network set up. Wasn't spotty where I was sitting along the bar w/stools in the front. There are power outlets all over the place .. mostly near walls. The whole wall with the bar + stools is filled with outlets. The music was loud .. but you get used to it. Also, it stops after a while (CD runs out? mp3 playlist is over?) The ambiance was nice. I guess because its mostly just NYU students. The heating did feel a bit out of control though - way too stuffy in the back/larger part of the coffee shop. The bathroom is decorated with artistic graffiti. Despite the fact that they serve a decent brew, and offer free wifi to the computer enslaved few, I don't plan on returning to Think Coffee soon for they blasted ridiculous music well before noon. Around 8:15am, the party started with the Beastie Boys. I looked up from my book as I was shocked by the noise. Others seemed to take notice as well, as another studious girl took off like a gazelle. I swear that I still know how to have a good time, but do you really need to play Kanye well before nine? Update: The WiFi, it not working, is. At all. The signal is "Excellent," yet nothing loads. All I got for my $2.75 coffee was annoyingly loud angst-ridden conversation from the grad school aspirants that fill the back. The couch, which I was lucky to snag, is very comfy, but the atmosphere is terrible: If the whiny NYU conversations about homework don't get you, the inexplicably loud (for a university-abutting coffee shop), bass-filled soundtrack will. It's one of the few places where tourists taking a break from shopping and plotting their next move on a map are actually a welcome change of pace. I have a theory that no one here actually gets any work done (how COULD they with all the distractions!). Rather, it's an elaborate, perpetual tableau: "College Students at Study." I really liked this place. I needed a place where I could hole up for a few hours to do some work, and searched Yelp looking for coffee places with padded seating so I could get comfortable. Not a couch or armchair, but something with padded seating and a table so I could use my laptop comfortably. Surprisingly, this task was pretty hard because coffee shops seemed to favor wooden chairs and couches. This place met my requirement, so I came by. I think they try to make your experience here as unpleasant as possible to stop people from lingering. Maybe I'm getting old, but damn, they have some pretty shitty music. I love hip-hop but they had the music on the Shit station on Pandora that night. The music playing sounded like Drake, Lil wayne - they all sound the same these days. But damn them, I now have some garbage stuck in my head. The wifi was very spotty, in fact it wasn't even working at all, and it took multiple requests from us to get them to reset the router. They do have a few redeeming qualities though - they serve booze, so you can have an option other than sleep depriving caffeine. Honestly, I only came in here for a few minutes to grab some coffee on the way to meet with a friend, so I can't speak very comprehensively as to the overall experience. Here goes nothing though... Food [4/5] - By food, I mean coffee of course. The cold brew was satisfying, especially on such a hot day. Service [4/5] - The cashier was nice, and my coffee was out within a few minutes. The coffee is decent but overpriced. I paid $7 for a dirty chai with oat milk - it tasted okay but not worth $7. The baristas and workers were also all VERY, VERY rude. They acted like I was causing them the biggest inconvenience in the world by placing an order for my dirty chai at 2 pm on a Saturday. They seemed very entitled and as if working in a coffee shop is above them. I really love the feel of this place - organic AND organic coffee. The exposed brick and accents make it look authentic and non-corporate. Then again, it's screaming at you to remember that it's better for you and better for the world than a place like Starbucks. Their coffee is good though a little more acidic than to my liking. Also, since everything is organic, the prices are definitely higher: a 12 oz. latte at Oren's is $3.30, whereas an 8 oz. latte at Think is $3.57. Lucky, you may call me. Been to this one on Mercer street a couple of times before but I kinda didn't settle because of crowd. Then I tried again and the perseverance must have been paid off; the night I walked into, there was a film showing, one of my favorite Alfred Hitchcoke's 1955 movie "To catch a thief". Cary Grant and Grace Kelly were almost shining! Simply lovely to watch a movie at a cafe, like old time Italian cafe, sipping espresso. Better you can have wine or beer. The halves of the sandwich were wrapped/positioned vertically in a basket, and as a consequence, all the melted cheese in the sandwich fell out through the bottom, onto the wax paper below. A coffeehouse near the NYU Washington Square campus. The place is a bit dirty, and they hung a broom in order to keep a door open... the dirt off the broom ending up floating down towards a table with drinks. Not cool. The red velvet cake here isn't bad - they actually asked which piece we wanted rather than give us any of them... on a real plate, though not real silverware. The coffee and tea were okay, nothing special. Soup looked good, though, with a side of a piece of bread. The person making coffee didn't look happy at all... Front space there's an elevated seating area and a side area, and the back has benches, sofas, chairs and tables. They can definitely make some open space in the back. I've been to this Think location twice now. It is definitely my first choice of the three in the area. It's spacious AND there's free wifi (the password is written up on the blackboard amongst the drink menu). There's also tons of different types of seating; whether you are the bar stool kind of person, or the chaise lounge chair type, or just the hard wooden Ikea chair type. There's also plenty of seating available both at the front and the back of the cafe. Unfortunately, I find the cafe a bit stuffy. It also smells less of coffee and more of grease (like an under-ventilated fast food restaurant). Stay too long and you will smell like you just took a bath in a tub of grease. read more

After reading the parade of negative reviews, I was hesitant to try this place out. After all, I didn't want to work with obnoxious hip hop in the background, or pay too much for bad coffee, or not be able to find a place to sit! Au contraire, my friends! First of all, when we walked in, there was ample seating. In fact, this was a shockingly HUGE coffee shop (especially for NYC standards). Secondly, the music was a satisfactory volume, and they were playing the xx, a super chill indie band that I usually listen to when I work anyway. And as for the coffee, I approve. Yes, it was strong, and half a cup left me a little jolted, but it was certainly an enjoyable cup o' brew! I'd love to make an encore visit, especially to enjoy one of their live jazz nights. However, while the line is significantly shorter then Starbucks, it is just as packed. The cups seemed a bit small to me, making it kind of expensive. I found Think Coffee by chance the other day after walking around Washington Square, a park drenched in summer humidity and unintersecting makeshift jazz musicians portraying a hot New York day in the village in sound. Interior is pleasantl rustic and cool from the outdoor heat. The air inside this place circulates nicely and the amount of space accomodates many people comfortably. A great place to study, read, or converse with friends. It's also a shelter from the muggy, humid summer New York heat. Had a coffee. Black. It was just right.
