I come here so often that I'm surprised to have never reviewed it. It's in such a central location that I always visit. This Think Coffee location is like many others in Manhattan: wooden construction everywhere, soft cafe lighting, lots of people working on stuff or studying, ample seating space (though it gets crowded at times). The staff here are friendly and down-to-earth. I also find it cool that Think Coffee uses fair-trade coffee and cares about social impact. The coffee is decent, not phenomenal nor bad. One caveat about this location in particular, however, is that it can be terribly loud. Straight up CLAMOROUS sometimes. It's not just the sound of espresso drinks being made; you've got people collaborating loudly on a business project, friends gossiping audibly in the corner, buses and dumpster trucks zooming by with a passion, your local crazy person making a scene. Could be very distracting if you've got deadlines, but it's almost endearing when I go back and find myself knowing what to expect. read more

I've worked here all day, several times. The staff is usually really friendly. The crowd is chill. I once had an iced coffee that was hurting my stomach. When I ordered a latte and asked they pour out the iced coffee, the barista was super understanding and refunded the iced coffee. Little things like that are really appreciated. read more

Stopped by for a pick me up. I was only visiting New York and happened to walk into this place because it was near us and we were tired of walking. I ordered my go to drink: iced mocha. I was surprised to that drink came out to almost $7 and it's not even a large! BUT, omg it was soooo good! Idk what they did, but it came out so smooth and the perfect amount of sweetness! Sustainably geared with some fairly quick service (at least for just getting a simple iced coffee). While there are a bunch of seats in the frnt and back, it is pretty packed, and people seem to be about doing their business there rather than just stopping for a quick drink or bite. As I had been walking all day it would have been nice to get a spot inside and rest for a few minutes from walking and the cold. But alas, luck was not on my side. Their menu seemed small but people were ordering things that weren't listed, which confused me and relegated me to keeping my drink order simple. I don't want to take too much time ordering as there was a line, but maybe a bit better signage to help move this along. I like that they have cups and such with eco-leaning and sustainability in mind. The coffee was good. I've been to this location of think coffee many times. I went in today and tried to order their egg and cheese, but on a bagel instead of toast. I've ordered this many times before from this exact location. The cashier told me this was not possible. When I explained I had ordered this before so I was confused, she told me they only do this when they run out of toast. I asked if they can make an exception and she said no (I can clearly see the stack of bagels in front of me). I do not understand why they could not make this when it is something that they have made before and fully have the ability and ingredients to make. They could have charged me more for the bagel, i would have no issue with that. But the complete refusal to even consider fulfilling my request and rudeness about it left me feeling not great. read more

I needed a coffee fix so badly that I was pacing outside before they opened. What I got hit the spot, an iced Americano...smooth with a slight toffee aftertaste. As I was there, how could I pass up breakfast? A toasted poppy seed bagel with just the right amount of cream cheese (enough to taste but not the whole tub like some places do) and a lot of smoked salmon. Great little coffee shop at a convenient location. The front is a bit chattier and noisier, while the back is fairly quiet. Great place to have a conversation/focus on work. Same as everyone else here is saying... overpriced, terrible service, poorly made coffee. This place only exists because of the WFH laptop users. Came in today and the supervisor was gossiping with the chef about hooking up with someone and finding another person's shirt in their home while the dockets piled up. She refused to make my coffee to have in-house, which is what I ordered. The coffee was terribly made, too (scaldingly hot, too much foam for a latte, under-extracted espresso shot). Before I lay out my gripes, let me say that the coffee here is great. The drip coffee is good, the iced coffee is good, cold brew is good, the espresso drinks are good; honestly you can't go wrong. I also give Think props for having soymilk at the dairy station, and not making people request it and/or pay extra. That said, drinks are rather expensive ($3.50 for iced coffee) and they're all served in to-go cups. Maybe it's just me, but cold beverages taste better in a glass than in a plastic cup. If I have the time to sit and sip, I like to have a real glass/mug as an option. I was surprised by how grimy the restroom is. Overall, Think seemed clean and tidy, but the restrooms felt like it was at a dive bar. It seemed like it gets a lot of use (there's just one toilet, unisex, and this Think location is busy all day!) but isn't cleaned often. In addition to to general grodiness there's also lots of graffiti and stickers. For such a slick coffee shop, I expected a clean and well maintained restroom. read more

Came in on a Wednesday afternoon a little after 5. At first it looked like a very nice coffee shop. Then when I went up to order the woman at the register was talking on the phone the whole time so I couldn't tell if she was talking to me or the person on the phone (She was also kind of rude). I was in a little bit of a hurry so I just ordered a batch brew. For some reason she had to make it like a pour over and I could tell she didn't put enough coffee in it as it was very watery tasting. Like so many businesses that I write about I had walked by Think Coffee a bunch of times before I finally got to visit the coffee shop. Chalk that up to tight schedules and often being in the area to make a movie at the nearby theater. Think Coffee has an Old Skool feel to it that is like catnip for me. The big, lit up sign recalls neon signs of old and its wood, beige and silver color combination feels like a set from some movie set in New York City somewhere between the 60's and 80's. Inside are lots of tables (medium to small) and seating. The ceiling is still an old style patterned one (painted over of course) and overall the place has a really comfortable feel. Service was quick, if not a bit loud and perfunctory. I ordered a Dirty Chai and settled down. Here's where I will say up front that it is very possible I could bump this review grade up in the future but man...the chai was bad. There was none of the bright flavor you would expect from a Chai, just a curious sharpness with no depth. It was, sadly, one of the worst Chais I've ever had. I get this feeling had I ordered just a plain coffee I would have been happier, so I fully intend to give this place another chance. Just stay away from the Chai and you should be okay. read more

This place is noisy AF. In the span of 10 minutes, I heard children screaming, a dog barking, another kid getting disciplined, a dude on a business call, and super loud music on another dude's headphones, on top of the usual milk steamer squealing and the "should I dump my douchebag boyfriend" conversation in the corner. (Yes, always yes.) It's truly chaos in here. The bathroom is gross. And I don't know why they put "for here" orders in paper cups. Ok, so your cups are compostable. But why not keep them out of the waste stream in the first place? Especially when you have an eco-conscious image. I don't think hiring a dishwasher is that expensive, but maybe they have other reasons. On the bright side, the Spanish lattes are really good. Also, despite it looking hopelessly packed I was able to get a spot quickly. Aside from that... I don't know. I didn't get murdered. Always a plus. Might come back but wouldn't study here. read more

I enjoy the cold brew at think coffee! If you go 10 times you get a free medium drink! However, compared to other Think Coffee locations, this one is always loud and rarely has empty tables. It seems to draw the type that claims and table and uses it as a work station for the day. read more

I don't drink coffee so don't look for that here in my review. My friends D's wanted to stop by to get some. We sat in the back where a good amount of people were on their laptops using the wifi. It is a cute place with a lot of foot traffic in the front. I got the hot chocolate and it was actually pretty decent. A good amount of foam on top and the hot chocolate was milky and not too over powering in the chocolate department. The only complaint I really have about this place is the bathroom. I came on a Wednesday night and the bathroom smelled so bad. Compared the nice interior and how clean everything seems in the rest of the café, the bathroom is disgusting. I got a chance to visit Think Coffee in Union Square on a lazy Sunday in August. The storefront looked warm and inviting, and we saw that it was open until 10PM which is considerably later than most other coffee shops in the vicinity (generally close around 6PM on a Sunday). One thing I really liked about Think Cofee was that I felt comfortable going into the store and setting up shop before going up to order a coffee. Often times at these sorts of places, you are expected to order before finding a seat, but that sometimes leads to purchasing a drink and not having a place to sit. I got a medium chai latte waited a minute or so before I got my drink - it was a lot larger than I expected! I guess I am used to the Starbucks grande size so I was pleasantly surprised to have a good bit of chai to sip on. The drink itself was great - perfect temperature and not too sweet, just how I like it. As for the space itself, there are really nice and sturdy square desks peppered around the shop and convenient charging spots here and there. I personally felt that the tables were a bit far away from the booth-like seating, so I ended up spending a good bit of time leaning forward when using my computer. But that might just be me - this place seems perfect to catch up with a friend over coffee, or to cozy up with a book. There are front and back areas here, both with ample space. One thing to note is that Think Coffee plays a lot of experimental ambient music - think KAYTRANADA, Mura Masa and the like. That's definitely my vibe, but it may not be for some. - Delicious (but small) latte. $3.88 after tax - Lots of tables extending all the way to the back. The tables are bolted to the floor, which is strange. - No wifi that I could tell. Do they just turn it off randomly? - Fellow patrons seem to be loud chatters (rather than quiet, headphoned laptop loners) so this is not a place to get work done. The space is packed, even at 3pm on a weekday (I'd taken the day off but woe is she who witnesses the glory of not having a 9-to-5). You'll need your hawk eyes to snatch a seat, plus a sense of decency to know not to loiter too long after you've finished your drink. Too bad the "small" latte is so damn small that I was gulping the delicious thing down and then felt compelled to leave out of consideration. I was expecting some attitude with my caffeine, but the staff is actually pretty friendly. The barista was describing to me how to "fold" the milk into the coffee as he was doing it... mesmerizing. This is one of the coffee shops I use in the city for studying. I have met up with my study partners here in the past. It can get a bit crowded, but if you are persistent, you can find a spot (even with your study buddies). I have been known to camp out here for over 6 hours when I had to study for a final. It was so ironic that when I sat down (the last I was here was in December) and there were 2 girls sitting next to me studying for the same exam! How crazy is that? And no, we do not go to NYU. We actually go to school at 168th St., so that was just pure coincidence. I do recall that the coffee being strong and fresh. That helps especially when you are studying. The hot chocolate is also good. I also got a grilled cheese but that was just so-so. I wouldn't eat here unless you were desperate (and I was since I was studying like a fiend). In any case, there is a lot of traffic here, so it is a great place to people watch. It is also good for someone like me that gets very ADD when she has to study for exams. I need a good amount of stimulation to have anything "stick." read more

Decent coffee but not that great. This is a vast location offering plenty of seating options which is great if you're focused on being productive, like writing a paper or contemplating life. Unfortunately there is no WiFi available at this spot which I would totally understand if it were a small, intimate spot conducive to conversation, but it is not. Therefore, why no WiFi? And why the attitude from the barista for asking? Lastly, they use a ticketing system for orders. The barista, taking on the role of a short-order cook. They also have a short order cook. Last time was confusing as my ticket didn't print (or the barista or whomever misplaced it) and my latte was never made. This ended in immense confusion as I took someone else's identical drink leaving him to argue with the barista. He was nice about it. The barista? Not so much. Not sure what the big deal was-- just make the drink. This coffee shop is cool if you're right near and need an escape from the cold with some coffee or need to rest your feet with the ample amount of seating they have. This is a great place to come to find a motivation to work on something on your laptop as it has electric plugs, a bathroom, free water, and some seats. The coffee that they serve are great but a bit expensive and little in quantity. However, it is ok given that this place offers an unique feeling when you are seated inside. The lighting is great, the space is great, and the most important the crowd is also great. Definitely worth coming to this place to get the vibe and energy of the people around you... We wanted an afternoon pick me up as we were both feeling rather sleepy after doing some shopping in Union Square, so walked in the closest coffee shop we saw. This Think location was really loud, and had a surprisingly long line - there was a lot of seating that happened to be (or usually is) fully occupied by people catching up and people on laptops/reading. The bathroom was clean, our coffees (my cold brew, his latte) came out quickly, and we were on our way. I'm in LOVE. Don't get me wrong, the coffee was putrid. But I'm going to let this slide this once because, I ordered two large regular coffees and I'm assuming that I got this batch from the bottom of the barrel. With this being said, I will explain the reason, I'm overlooking this. First, Think donates 10 % of their profits after taxes to the Grand street settlement. = 2 stars Second, Think uses compostable cups that are biodegradable =1 star Third, Think only buys fair trade coffee beans = 2 stars Fourth, Think's baristas are amazing. Don't bother coming here. Had a cheddar egg sandwich, where the egg consisted of microwaved eggs. The hot cider was more like warm water.

Using a couple of summer days off to prep for a doctorate thesis I wandered into this Think Coffee to do some book reading and online research. After a few days here is my take- Positves: 1. Not as crowded as other NYC Thinks. This is 100% due to the lack of WiFi at this establishment. So that small $3 cup of coffee you are about to buy doesn't come with free wifi. Furthermore they won't tell you there is no WiFi until you ask. Which is usually after you bought coffee, locate a seat nearby a power outlet and switched on your macbook. I've seen many hipsters angrily storm out after setting up their laptop-shop and realizing there is no WiFi. 2. The layout is very Feng Shui. There is diner-style seating area in the front section that is well lit and spacious. The cash wrap/barista/ toilet/kitchen are all in the middle and at the back you have a semi-hidden lounge-style seating area replete with dim lighting and ice cold air conditioning during the summer months. Thinks usually have the best interiors and this location is top notch. 3. Damn good $4 pints of beer. They have house blends on tap that I discovered accidentally one night. It is really good beer that, when measured pint for pint, comes out much cheaper than their coffee! Negatives: 1. No WiFi. This is a big turn off even if you bring your own WiFi hotspot with you since Think's higher prices for coffee, teas, and confectionaries usually include the cost of having free all day WiFi. No WiFi here but prices are still HiFi. 2. Expensive. Coffee/Teas start at $3 (after you tip). Confections are pricey and sandwiches are all $7 and up. Someone's getting very rich off the organic food movement is all I can say. They issue with me is I didn't find any of the food stuff worthy of the prices. As a New Yorker I am accustomed to paying more for basic stuff but usually the quality and taste justifies price increases but here I didn't feel that. 3. This place has the biggest tip buckets on the counter. Both tip pails overshadow the cash registers and of course when you are handed back your change it is always going to be handed to you over the tip buckets. I don't mind tip cups, in fact I'm all for tipping, but having massive bucket pails adjacent to your cash wraps seem a tad desperate. 4. Bring earplugs because this place is louder than other Thinks. Since there is a lack of wifi seeking laptop loners all-daying it in here you get various crowd turnovers during the weekdays. Chatty housewives/nannies come in with babies in the mornings, the roaring lunch crowd swarms in at noon, and the musicians/artists/hipsters appear after 3pm. There were also some religious and theater meet up groups that frequent this Think. That said it seems everyone here yell at each other for conversation. This may be due to the overhead music that is rather loud and rarely tasteful. Its a coffee shop baristas and not your bedrooms. 5. Tables in the back are all bolted down and the long communal sofa thingy that snakes around the wall can put you uncomfortably close to others. Add in the fact that every conversation is this place is fairly loud and nasally and you can imagine how annoying it is. 6. Not Laptop Friendly AT ALL! I only found 2 power outlets in the entire establishment. Even if you bring a laptop with your own WiFi hotspot chances are slim to none that you will get any all-daying-it online work done here. If you need to plug in you must get here before 11am or then you best bring a tablet or iPad. This is bad since some Thinks have outlets at every seating area or table. 7. Think Coffee's coffee is really bad. I don't know if I am alone here but Think's coffee is really horrendous. It is bold and dark but has no flavor or robustness to it. I've tried various ways of preparing their coffee for consumption, I've tried soy milk, decaf, flavors, etc... but I don't like the end result. To me it tastes like what I imagine ink would taste like if it was brown, non-viscous and hot. Then again I am coming from a background spent at Parisian cafes and an Ex-girlfriend from Ankara who lavished me with Turkish coffee. I also french press Gevalia at home so like I said it may just be me that thinks Think's coffee stinks. read more

The girl at the register was so nice and friendly, and my chai tasted good. Many other cafes' chai tastes weak, but the one I got at Think was well-made. My friend had gotten this big oatmeal cookie which I had a few bites of, and I thought it was pretty OK. One thing I noticed when I went was that most people around me was studying and only my friend and I were chatting so in that way it didn't exactly feel... private. Not that cafes are private, but when other people are also involved in their own conversations, you feel like the overall noise masks your own voices. But this could be a great place to go study and read. read more

I like this Think location because it feels less grungy than the one closer to NYU's library. There's adequate space to wait in line if there's a crowd, but I've actually never seen such a large crowd here. The space to sit, however, is a bit smaller and tighter. Be sure not to miss it; it's tucked away in the back. You will definitely be privy to everyone's conversation. I get the sense that most people do not stay here all day - maybe because it's a little stuffier? read more

2.5 stars. Coffee shops are still the place to go for a quick chat without a huge meal or alcohol commitment. Think Coffee, however ironic, is the last place you want to come to think. There were no seats, for one, we were this close to jumping some people and kicking them out so we could sit down. And once you do sit down, don't even think of trying to talk, as you'd be talking over about 55 other voices. The line for the not so nice bathroom is forever forming and the drinks are average and predictably overpriced. Get me to a bar next time because we both needed a drink afterwards and ended up at a bar anyway. read more

It's huge, dont get me wrong, but I just don't get why people love the vibe here so much. Think is dedicating their practice to fairness in the coffee trade, from farmer to customer, and also run their own Farm and Social Projects. They also donate 10% of their profits to local non-profits, taking care of low-income families, including daycare, early childhood education and programs for inner-city youth, teens and seniors. I mean, how amazing is that? Their wallpaper isn't too shabby either. If you need a bite to go along with your cup, they offer a breakfast menu until 11am, and lots of sandwiches and baked goods throughout the day. I grabbed a Peanut Butter Cookie, which comes in from a local bakery. It was big, crispy, crunchy, peanut-buttery goodness. And then, of course, I got a coffee, a Cappuccino. The coffee was rich and smooth and served up with creamy, foamed milk. read more

Coffee was nice and strong with high acidity but touch of milk turned it to a great cup of coffee. My friend's chai latte was good but on a spicier side.
