My experience at Thinking Cup could've been better. The staff seemed aloof and/or nonchalant. As I approached the counter, the barista just gave me a glance and raised eyebrows without saying anything. I found this a bit amusing because the person after me got greeted with, "How may I help you?" After being handed the orange juice and Boston cream pie, the staff still didn't say anything after I said thank you. A bit of manners can go a long way. Boston cream pie was decent, although I didn't care for it being in the form of a tart. The cream filling of chocolate and vanilla layers tasted good. Great quick breakfast place in the north end, really enjoyed my oatmeal, quiche, and pour over. I had gone for a run and stopped in afterward and was famished so threw down a slice of quiche in like 10 seconds and then went to the oatmeal. The quiche was light and fluffy, I think with potatoes, bacon and some sort of veg in there but not quite sure, all I know is it was tasty with a nice buttery crust to match. Oatmeal was pretty standard but well done, didn't need anything fancy, just a nice consistency with a little sweetness from the brown sugar. Pour over was so smooth, just a great cup of coffee. I have been going to Thinking Cup for a long time but today I did wonder why I spend almost $15 for poorly made bavarages I odered a cappuccino, and what I got was coffee with milk. When I did comment on it, the barista whose shift was at 3:30pm not only did not offer to redo it, he also had an attitude. The latte was also poorly made. I went here on Sunday morning on my trip to Boston after the brunch place we wanted to go to had a 1.5 hour wait. We walked in and it was busy but you could tell that this meant it was a good place to go. You order at the counter and wait for your food. They have a good selection of breakfast items, sandwiches and other lunch items. The coffee looked amazing and they have won some awards for their coffee art! We got some freshly squeezed our juice with our meal. I ordered the special which was the bahn mi with tofu and I really enjoyed it. I think I would have left out the jalapeños. My friend got the breakfast burrito and said it was good but nothing special. The pastries looked good as did the granola and yogurt. Stayed in the area for a two day stay and looked for coffee shops. Thinking cup was highly rated- but extremely Long wait for service in a Friday at 10 am . We ordered a Hot chocolate, chai latte, and an iced latte. My wife liked the Iced latte, my son was disappointed in his hot chocolate, and i will say my chai latte was just straight up flavorless. They claim an award for their latte but I am not convinced. As always could have just been a bad day, but should be something you are good with. A great coffee shop downtown with amazingly friendly staff! First time here and I was greeted with all smiles the moment I walked in. There were so many yummy-looking pastry options in the display cases, ranging from scones to croissants, to cheesecakes! Plus the cookie jars showed some hearty jumbo-sized cakes that were tempting me as well. I went with their mini Boston cream pie and their Blueberry Fancier; both delicious! Not overly sweet and very great texture to both of them. (They didn't skimp out on their berries on the fancier either which was a big plus!) My friend got a coffee and I thought it smelled so yummy, I tried it too. It was so robust and made well (and this is coming from a non-coffee drinker!) I'd come back for the service alone as the whole staff was very patient with us and friendly. The cafe ambiance itself was very chic and cute. Plus, clean bathrooms! The only reason I gave it 4* is because it's a bit confusing when you walk into the cafe, and there are people coming from opposite sides of the line. Better signage is needed. This was a fantastic random find while in the area! I was looking for coffee and Thinking Cup popped up and it turned out to be so much more than just coffee. I love the decor. All the old newspaper stories. It was really interesting to walk around and read some of the articles as we waited for our items. Service was super friendly. No line so we were able to walk right up. And, what a selection of bakery items even later in the day! Was really hard to pick just a few things to try out. The coffee flavors are limited but two of them were really unique - ginger vanilla and cinnamon honey. I went with an iced cinnamon honey and it was beautifully done. The flavor was right on and it was strong but not too strong. I'm definitely trying the ginger vanilla next visit! For food, we went with 6 macarons, and no lie, they were the best macarons I've ever had. Extremely creamy and tasty. You have to try the salted caramel! Melt in your mouth delightful. We also got a grilled cheese on sour dough bread with havarti cheese and tomato slices and it was again amazing. Maybe the best grilled cheese I've ever had. I was super impressed by the food and coffee. I wish I'd heard of Thinking Cup before now as we're in that area often enough that I could see us stopping and grabbing some goodies and coffees all the time. Thinking Cup is a great spot in the North End if you're not an espresso person and you need a good hit of iced latte. Emphasis on the iced lol. I have only ever ordered one drink from Thinking Cup and I just can't get myself to try something else because of how good it is! Please try their hazelnut iced latte! It has little remnants of hazelnuts so the coffee has the taste and texture and I love it! Its the best hazelnut latte you will ever have! Eggs for the breakfast sandwiches/burritos are microwaved for 2:30 in a flimsy, single use plastic container. Except they reuse them. This is a big health concern, since microwaving plastic can cause the BPA and Phthalates in the plastics to leach into your food. The breakfast burrito I got was burned to the wrapper but was cold in the middle, with runny beans and salsa that tasted like it had gone bad (fermented mouthfeel...). It was wrapped in a wheat tortilla which I didn't want (flour would be better) and was wrapped terribly (food falling out of the bottom) despite there being a pile of extra tortilla that I had to pick off. The whole burrito fit in the palm of my hand - strange size and shape. The coffee drink I ordered had an inch and a half of room at the top, and was so messy despite them using two cups. There is a stressful ambiance about the whole place. They also don't take orders over the phone, so avoid if you're in a rush. So strange that they have a delivery option but refuse to take orders over the phone. They are surprisingly very slow at churning out their orders, despite the fact that the people behind the counter are flailing at a million miles an hour. There were only 4 people with queued orders (only one food order and two drink orders were ahead of me) and it still took 10 minutes to get an americano and almost 15 minutes to get a breakfast burrito. read more

Hip coffee shop in the North End area of Boston. It seems out of place amongst the Italian cafes and restaurants but actually was perfect as they accepted credit cards and there was seating. FYI most of the Italian cafes are cash only. A lovely selection of GF cakes and pastries. The GF tiramisu was great, creamy and rich (I couldn't finish oh my). The chocolate Eclair was full of cream and covered with lots of dark chocolate. Nice selection of teas and various coffee options. They also serve breakfast and lunch. Prices are reasonable. In the mood for reading, I came here with a friend on a Saturday afternoon. It was crowded but we were able to find seats among the many smaller 2-person tables. The tables are really close together so you could hear the surrounding noise in the background. I enjoyed my French hot chocolate (seasonal), which had a strong, rich, thick, and pleasant taste of dark chocolate. My friend loved her chai latte as well. The decorations in the shop adds a nice ambience thats is synchronous with the historical Boston/North end vibe. The only downside is that there is no Wifi. We were heading to an event later in the evening, but were feeling the affects of a food coma. What better way to combat it than to get some coffee (and dessert)!? Thinking Cup was pretty crowded when we got inside, but there wasn't much of a line so we were able to put in our orders very quickly. I got a strawberry tart, my sister got the mixed berries, and I got a matcha latte. I think my sister might've gotten a latte - not quite sure. We received our tarts very quickly and found a table we could sit at. The drinks themselves didn't take too long to come out, so we picked them up at the counter and went back to our table. My matcha latte was decent. Not the greatest that I've tasted, but not the worst either. It was good enough. The strawberry tart on the other hand... ugh, SO GOOD. The moment I put a forkful of it into my mouth was heaven. We didn't stay too long (places to go, people to see), but the service at Thinking Cup was great. Everyone was super friendly, very nice, and incredibly helpful. The only downside was that the cafe wasn't very clean. Granted the place was crowded as hell when we got there (and the employees were very busy!), but the tables had crumbs and stuff still on them. Nothing a quick wipe of the napkin can't fix. Definitely will be coming back in the future, if not just for the pastries and sweets they offer. read more
