This was our 3rd time dining at Thom Thom. First time times were exceptional. Tonight was a complete disaster. Our waiter was very odd remarks i called inappropriate Arrived at 5pm on a Sunday. Only two other tables were occupied We placed our dinner orders It took 30 minutes for our food to be served. Though my husband enjoyed his petite filet mignon my dinner was terrible I ordered the Seared Diver Scallops with mushroom risotto. The risotto was under cooked the scallops were soggy and rubbery. Our waiter disappeared, couldn't ask what the hold up was with our meal or order a glass of wine. I asked the back waiter if I could order a glass of wine. He responded "ask your waiter". Ummm he was around I would have. Waiter never came over to ask how our meal was. Which was probably a good thing at that point. It will be a long time before considering returning. If you're looking for a steak house , this isn't one. The red flag should have been that they also serve sushi. The service was great but that was about it. My wife had the marinated skirt steak. It tasted like Chinese food steak on a stick . I got the 14oz ribeye and it tasted like steak in the air fryer. This place reminded of restaurant that would be attached to a motel. I take the train to work everyday and live 5 minutes away from this place and I shoulda went in sooner! I was so surprised by the sushi during restaurant week. They gave such big portions and the seafood was fresh. Place needs a little work inside seems a bit small, but it's a cozy spot for a date night. Service was great always around refilling drinks and seeing what you need. It's definitely worth taking a ride to. The regular menu has some pretty delicious entrees and appetizers on it. We arrived on time for our reservation of 5 on a Saturday evening but we showed up with 8 people instead. We were accommodated within minutes and seated. That unfortunately was the only quick thing they did all night. The grilled pita with humus was really good, the pulled pork taco appetizer was also a good choice and the Expresso Martinis were yummy but there was way to much time between drinks, bread and appetizers. Even more time between the apps and main course with no explanation or apology. Our group had Marinated Skirt Steaks and Petit Filet Mignons. One member of the group ordered his Filet Mignon medium well. It was not to be. It arrived rare and went back twice. The last time it came back well done after every member of our party had already finished dinner. Thankfully his meal was on the house. I have been here so many times I cannot count but my last visit left me feeling a little unsatisfied. I went on a Tuesday night with my boyfriend and it was basically dead inside (2 -3 tables were full) which didn't bother me because I was looking forward to a quite dinner. We ordered our normal favorites bang bang shrimp, surf and turf roll, and the skirt steak entrée and I left feeling disappointed. The bang bang shrimp which is normally too much to finish was half the size and the skirt steak entrée which we asked to be cooked medium well charred and burnt on one end and more on the rare side in the middle. Plus the veggies that came with the steak had hardly any flavor and were drenched in olive oil. I'm not sure if it was because it was a slow Tuesday night and it was a different chef or if the food has completely changed, but I'm not sure I would recommend them anymore. This place wasn't good. I went here years ago and my boyfriend and I at the time couldn't find the front entrance at first. It took a while to get waitstaff just for drinks. The drinks were too heavy for me. I barely tasted the sweetness that it had in it. It was mostly alcohol. Which I didn't want to get drunk that night. I just wanted a casual night of one drink and something to eat. I barely finished the drink. The food came a while too. The food wasn't cooked the way I asked and that's when it really bothered me. Plus, it didn't help that the tables were on the smaller side, rather than have it be a nice size where the plates and drinks fit nicely on the table. I only gave it three stars because because the ambiance was nice. I won't be coming back here again. read more

I had visited this restaurant in the past and always enjoyed it. I came here on a busy night with 3 friends of mine. It took 15 minutes for a waiter/waitress to come to our table and ask our drink order. We then asked if we could put it in our appetizers and our waitress said no, that everything had to be put in together. She came back another 15 minutes after with our drinks which didn't taste how the usually do. We then put our order in. The appetizer which was the sampler took about 30 minutes to received and was nothing to rave about. Finally, we then got our dinners. The 2 surf and turf rolls were not edible. I got a filet mignon that I requested medium rare and it was completely raw. To top it off, BOTH of the salads that my friends ordered had hair in them. Thom Thom specialize's In Steak, Sushi and fresh seafood all under the expert guidance of owner and Executive Chef Danny Wu. My wife and I dine there often and are impressed with all facets of their culinary game. We are in love with their Petite Filet, I don't know who their provider is, but it's a steak that surpasses many of the high-end steakhouses at a fraction of the cost ($21)! This can also be said of all the purveyors for this eatery, they are all first class, which makes dining an amazing experience. Additionally, their Sushi is on a par (or better) than the elite sushi bars on Long Island. But what really differentiate's Thom Thom from the pack is their staff. From the Manager Leo, to all the waiters, waitresses. busboys, barkeeps, etc, they are determined to make dinner an extraordinary experience. This was our second time visiting Thom Thom and they did not disappoint. We went back in November for my boyfriend's dad's birthday. There were about 8 or 9 of us and service was fantastic. The food was delicious and everyone left happy. No complaints at all. At that time, we were eating dinner at about 5PM on a Sunday, so the place wasn't exactly full. Cut to- Saturday night, 7PM. The place was jam packed! The parking lot was totally full so we had to park about two blocks away (not such a huge deal, considering it was Saturday night, but if you have an issue with walking, it could be problematic). We were a party of 4 adults and one adorable 3-year old. We were given a table with six chairs (not enough room to put a highchair for the baby). We were so tightly squeezed into this table that I could feel the person sitting at the table behind us. For this space issue, I am giving Thom Thom only four stars. I got the petite filet mignon with veggies and mashed potatoes. It was beyond delish. I also got a margarita which was the perfect amount of tequila. The other three adults at the table got the shrimp fra diavolo. Two ordered mild and one ordered spicy. All three couldn't hardly eat their meals- that's how hot it was. I know what my boyfriend is capable of eating when it comes to the spicy scale. I was shocked that it was too hot for him to finish. Went there with some friends. Nice atmosphere, nothing special but nice. The food though was not good. We had the appetizer sampler. The Bang Bang Shrimp was good (shrimp was small but tasty), Calamari rings had a nice flavor to them, the Meatball was ok (medium size and soft) and the potstickers were good. Also the naan bread was good. We did ask for more bread 2x and finally got it nearly 20 mins later. I had one of the specials, petite filet mignon and lobster tail ($43). The meat was a very small piece (less than 5 oz) and not cooked properly (asked for medium, came out less than medium rare). The lobster tail was small but fine, nothing special. My wife had a petite filet as well. Her piece was even smaller than mine and was nearly raw (she order medium well). I asked for it to be put back on and received an entirely new piece of meat, now very well done and shoe leather like. Drinks were ok, a bit pricey at $18. We came here to have a dinner out with the girl's parents. We had a reservation and waited a few minutes for a table to be cleared off. It wasn't a long wait. We were seated in a table in the middle of the room at a table that kind of fit four. We ordered drinks and looked over the menu while those were brought to the table. For an appetizer, we decided for the thai calamari, which is usually a good bet. It wasn't bad, but I wouldn't recommend it. The calamari was soaked in the sauce, so it coming apart. It tasted good, but it lack the crispness I usually enjoy with it. For dinner, I had the paella. Warning, it will be scorching hot. You have to mix it well and give it some time. It was very good though. A had some of the steak too, which was great. The major problem was that it seemed the staff was overloaded. It seemed like our waitress had too many tables to handle. She was very nice, but we had to look around and wave her down to get another drink. Overall, the food was good. I'd skip the calamari, but the entrees were great. The service was lacking. Thom Thom clearly has an identity crisis. A quick look at the menu will have you asking questions such as: Are you a sushi spot? Trendy Asian fusion? New American? Steakhouse? This may or may not have affected how much I enjoyed the food @ Thom Thom. Happy hour lasted until 7pm or so that night with preference easily given to those of us with two X chromosomes. Too bad it was literally boiling hot in there. I turned into Rosy-Face Steph. My embarrassing Alcohol flush reaction was in full swing when coupled with the heat that night! Let's begin with the food, shall we? Sushi Pizza: Sounds really gross, like the bloodied thing the cat just dragged onto the stoop. But wait --- it's not as nasty as you may think. Conceptually, it IS like pizza. HOWEVER, there is no cheese, no sauce and no little fishies mixed with your Italian meatballs on here. Think sticky rice, lightly fried with an assortment of fresh sashimi like tuna, salmon and eel. Then add some jalapeno. Crikey! I like it, I like it! Chicken and Wild Mushroom Fettuccine: How they made this simple pasta dish SO amazing is beyond me, clearly. Reggiano cheese, fettuccine, light creamy sauce tossed with some shrooms.... Nothing too fancy but it was just plain glorious in my mouth. The sum was greater than it's individual parts here, Additionally, tons of items on the menu peaked my interest. On my hit list for next time: Bang Bang thai chili shrimp and lobster mac and cheese with truffle oil, schwing! Let's talk about the atmosphere, shall we? First time ever eating here; I am thoroughly pleased! I had a perfectly cooked steak (to the temperature I asked for), and quite possibly the best mashed potatoes I've ever had in my life. The string beans were extremely fresh and still snappy. The marinade from the steak flavored all of the components beautifully and made everything taste even better. I ordered a side of fries and they were great. They were not greasy at all, nor were they soggy. Lightly dusted with sea salt, which I loved. Unfortunately, due to the Coronavirus pandemic, I was unable to enjoy my absolutely delicious meal inside the establishment. However, I'm sure the ambiance of the inside would match the quality of the food, if I had to guess. We enjoyed a delicious dinner at Thom Thom despite a rocky start from the rude hostess. As always they have a nice cocktail menu. We shared the calamari which was perfectly cooked, crispy and not the least bit rubbery. The wedge and goat cheese salad were both delicious. We shared a few sushi rolls and they were all wonderful. The sea bass was buttery and tender. All and all it was very good meal. I wanted to commend the busser Jorge who was fabulous! That guy is such a hard worker and deserves some recognition. I wanted to let the manager know how wonderful we thought he was but alas the hostess wouldn't give me the time of day- and really the only reason i could not give 5 stars for this visit.... read more

I spoke with the manager Danny tonight and I brought up all of my concerns that I posted in my previous Yelp review. He was quick to acknowledge the same weaknesses I saw on New Years Eve and also showed me that they are being addressed. While that night definitely was dampened by many things, I'm confident that Thom Thom is learning from the flaws and doing what they can to address them. I have a lot of respect for the fact that he took accountability and also made sure to say "I am not making excuses." These are attributes of a leader. Though they dropped the ball on New Years Eve, (boo, pun intended) having spoken with Danny, I am willing to give Thom Thom another try. 1 star- for food quality-cook 1 star- Management showing that they saw those same flaws and are addressing them 1 star- for bartenders, servers. I am taking two stars off for the disappointment from that night due to structure and systems in place. Also factoring into that is the fact that they didn't do anything to address the problems that were occurring at the time. Unfortunately in the restaurant business only a certain number of people will give you feedback and complain, the rest just won't come back. If I didn't contact the management I wouldn't have some of the regained confidence in them. I would suggest them to be a little more proactive because I know many people who were disappointed. In conclusion- 3/5 not bad. Hopefully they can continue to improve so I can update this again to a 5 out of 5! Problems with the Gala consisted of: -Rude phone service - having to spent 20 minutes to get a seat after they neglected to tell me it was standing room only. -Classless group from upstairs -Hoardes of Children, rude ones at that. Ruined the atmosphere for all adults -Running out of food -Dj Booth not being near the dance floor -Only received premium spirits if you request them. Thom Thom is a local gem that I have only had drinks and appetizers at until this past Sat night and I'm glad we did. Dinner with friends on the Sat night before Valentines day with a 6:30 reservation and we were seated immediately even with a packed house. Impressive start! The restaurant is decorated beautifully, the sound level is very manageable and the tables are comfortably distanced from each other to make for a comfortable experience. We ordered first round of drinks. Specialty cocktails for the ladies were off their specials menu and although I cant remember what concoction they made up, it was delicious and a bit expensive ($12 a drink). I had a perfectly mixed and refreshing gin and tonic. The bartender at TT is well known and makes a great drink for sure! We ordered two appetizers including bang-bang shrimp and a short ribbed stuffed ravioli. The shrimp was very delicious, perfect blend of spicy with the sweetness of the shrimp itself. The short rib ravioli was tasty however it was a bit cold when it arrived. For entrees, I had a wonderful duck combination of a moist roasted breast and a crispy duck leg confit. The sides of sweet potato mash and bok choy was perfect! Duck was done perfectly medium and they didn't miss a step in this entree. Other entrees had (and of course I tasted) were marinated skirt steak (very good), NY strip (also very good) and two sushi rolls that were tasty as well. For dessert, blueberry crisp with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and a dollop of whipped cream. The blueberry crisp was bit too hot and without the ice cream it seared the roof of your mouth. With the ice cream to cool it down, very tasty! Cappuccino was served way to early before the dessert was served and was cold. In all a pleasant experience, despite some food temperature issues I enjoyed the meal here and will dine again. read more

Let me start by saying the food is consistently good here. However, the service was so bad for so many couples on Valentine's Day that it hindered many of their dinner and especially mine. We made 6:45 reservations and waited 45 min to be seated. There were at least a dozen other people in the same situation as it seems as though they double booked their tables as every single table was taken when we showed up. I asked how long the wait would be when we checked in and they said in 15 min check back with us to see how much longer. I checked back in 15 min and we waited another half hour. It looked like the people that were making a big fuss got seated within 10 min and those that didn't just stood there waiting forever. I don't think it's right to overbook especially on an occasion like Valentine's Day. The management didn't seem to care either. Offered no apologies and just said it is what it is. Once we got seated the service was extremely rushed wanted our drink and food order at once and didn't see the waitress again until the check came. I asked for bread because tables around us were getting but not us, even those that sat after us. She said ok one min. We got our apps and still no bread when the table next to us got seconds. I asked the buss boy and received right away. For an easy $200 bill for two people, you expect a certain level of service and thom thom did not come close to delivering. My friend Mike and I were tasked by our wives to find a "L.I. Restaurant Week" place to have dinner together. After searching through the menus, we decided that Thom Thom's, a place we had enjoyed previously, provided a good selection, all from their regular menu. We wound up finding a parking spot in front of their building (there is a municipal lot nearby if you are not so lucky). We were seated immediately at a quiet table near the sushi chef and bar. Our server/bartender/ law school student was most pleasant and helpful as she poured "Whiskey Old Fashions" for our spouses which they both enjoyed. For dinner, I had what Mike had, which was Kung Pao Calamari, nicely fried with a not too spicy peanut sauce and a grilled to a medium rare, as ordered, marinated very tender delicious skirt steak. My wife ordered the chef's special sushi roll appetizer, which was excellent and was enough to make it a meal in itself. For her entrée she chose a nicely baked salmon. Mike's wife had a fresh salad and a wonderful roasted chicken. We usually try to limit having any dessert, but with restaurant week, it is almost always part of the deal, (I wish some of these special menus would provide a choice of perhaps a salad or soup instead of dessert). Anyway, the Molten Lave Cake was great and the Warm Apple Crisp one of the best desserts I have ever had. Service was good, and we enjoyed all which we ordered. I plan on heading back this weekend, which is what prompted me to write review! One of my favorite restaurants! I love the ambience. Restaurant is very clean & the staff is great. I have to say, I've been here many times & I always order the same thing; the marinated skirt steak. Every time I go, I say I'm going to order something else, and I go with that, every time because it never disappoints. I've never eaten a more tender piece of meat, it's delicious! (My one complaint, I feel as though the portions changed drastically- I always used to bring home at least half the steak, because it was too much to finish- now, I eat every last piece. The skirt steak used to curl over it was so big, now not anymore, but for the price, you're still getting a great deal) - I always get a side of creamed spinach as well to share with whomever I'm with. They have a great bartender, that makes amazing drinks. I don't eat seafood, but I heard their sushi is to die for, and their "Kung pow calamari" is out of this world.
