We celebrated a friend's birthday at Thompson and Twain Prospecting Co. She made the reservations in advance and we were looking forward to the visit. As the usual, this "speakeasy" is behind a "hidden" door inside Crush & Brew in old town Temecula. Its like going into an old bank vault by the looks of the door and inside is quite small and decorated like you're in the old west. We were seated right away and our server was friendly and efficient. We each had a couple of drinks and liked most of them. I really enjoyed the Rattlesnake, myself. The prices are not any more than any other speakeasy style bar and in fact, at $13, really reasonable. Overall, its a nice experience, but the one thing that made it DEFINITELY not five stars was no AC. It was hotter than hell in there and we were super uncomfortable. 1 star because we got asked to leave because an employee name Karli felt uncomfortable when I have never done anything to this woman. TNT you should be ashamed to have someone like her push paying customers away and I know for a fact I'm not the only one. On top of that yells at the host for doing her job and seating us. Extremely unprofessional. Be smart managers and get rid of employees like that. Refusing to serve someone because she doesn't like me for no reason isn't a reason to not serve a patron. Even the manager garret felt embarrassed to ask a paying customer to leave for no reason. Just a joke. Out of respect of him and the staff we left. Really good atmosphere if you want a more intimate place to have drinks with a western type nostalgic decor. The drinks were really good, a decent amount of options plus you can order ones that are off the menu as long as they have the ingredients to make it. Definitely make reservations (especially for the weekend) and plan to spend about 2 hours there if you plan on having more than one drink. The only downside is that you can't bring food in from Craft & Brew or order it from any of their sister restaurants (maybe so people don't just loiter) but would be nice to at least be able to order apps. read more

My boyfriend and I went to Temecula for our anniversary and were able to get a reservation at Thompson and Twain. It's a super cute speakeasy. I highly recommend making a reservation on their website ahead of time. I was so happy we were able to come here. The place itself is very beautiful. I especially loved the high ceilings with different light fixtures. They only serve drinks and don't have any food. They were fully booked for our reservation time, but it was not crowded or too loud. We were able to talk to each other with ease and had plenty of room. My boyfriend and I hate crowded and loud places, so this was really nice. I had the Strawberry Negroni and my boyfriend had The Man From San Jose. Both drinks were very strong. We both really enjoyed our drinks. If we hadn't been out all day, I would have loved to try another drink. If we're ever back in the area, we would definitely come back. We were running a little late for our reservation and they were able to hold our table. The hostess was so sweet. They text you about your reservation and you can text back and update them on your status. I thought it was very convenient and hope other establishments start using this communication method for reservations! So we learned the hard way that wine tours happen during the day in Temecula,Ca and not the evening. So we ventured out in hopes of finding a fun watering hole and THIS IS IT! We did have a bit of trouble locating it ( in true speakeasy form) but once inside we were told it was about a 60 min wait. We grabbed a drink at a nearby bar but had to chug quick because our table was available within 10 min and we couldn't bring our drinks with us. I am one who loves to have my eyes entertained with decor and this little nugget had it all! It has a 1800s saloon feel with taxidermy, damask wallpaper, a piano and antiques a plenty. If anything it's comfortably exclusive feeling(is that a thing?), with room for maybe only 20-30 people max. No TV screens, lots of cool touches, rope and barrels hanging from the ceiling, longhorn horns, and all manner of things on the walls. You definitely get the sense of taking a step back in time. We were greeted right as we walked in and seated immediately. I had made reservations through their website since is was my bestie's bday and I wanted to make sure we were able to get drinks here no matter what. They definitely took note of that and even get my bestie a free birthday shooter! Excellent Service! I unfortunately can't remember the name of my drink, but I requested something with Gin, and whatever I got, it tasted absolutely delicious. Loved the amarena toschi cherry in the bottom. Couldn't tell you about food or really anything else.. Just the quoted wait time was 30 minutes and they didn't even message us until 70 minutes later. We sat at the bar in C&B just outside the entrance and watched multiple parties leave. We ended up just packing up and heading out after waiting an hour. The cocktails are creative and delicious (I tend to do dealer's choice), and the servers are very friendly. Business Trip out to Temecula thankfully got me thru the hidden door to this wonderful speakeasy. We were so impressed we had to cut our time short in Oceanside to ensure we could get back and have another Cocktail the following evening with Stefan and Shilahn. Stefan created amazing Beverages seamlessly. Great outgoing personality and a pleasure to chat with while enjoying one of his creations. Sheilahn was amazing. She had a great energy and made you feel at home while you were in her presence. The teamwork and how they managed to care for everyone in the place was a pleasure to watch. Each evening I started with a cocktail I selected and then had them decide what my next would be...every Cocktail was expertly made and exceeded all expectations. Whenever I visit a new city, I can't help but seek out the best speakeasies/cocktail bars in the area. When I did a quick Yelp search, Thompson & Twain came up, and after looking at the pictures, I decided to check it out myself. Trying to find where it was located was a bit of a challenge. After circling the block in Old Temecula couple times, we were told that it's located inside Crush & Brew. So we went into Crush & Brew, and were guided to a small entrance covered with curtains. After walking through the entrance, there was a small table and a lamp where I suppose the host/hostess would be waiting to seat you. But there was nobody there even though the bar should've been open. Then somebody finally came out and told us that there had been a blackout, and it would be a little more while until they can open the bar for business. We were disappointed, but I was determined not to give up. After waiting for another 45 min. or so, we were finally able to get in. The bar is beautiful - it has high vaulted ceilings which makes the space open and airy instead of cramped and stuffy like most speakeasies tend to be. Everything looked like it had come straight out of an old western movie (or Knott's Berry Farm lol). We grabbed a seat at the bar and were attended to right away by Steve the bartender. After looking through the menu, we decided on the following - Deadringer (scotch, pineapple, ginger, lemon, bitters, islay float) - Smooth & almost creamy, but I was a little disappointed the smoky flavor of the islay didn't really come through. Still a pretty delicious drink, served with crushed ice julep-style. Bonnie Parker (gin and something else...I forgot TBH lol) - Spirit-forward, punchy & floral. It wasn't my favorite but it's just my personal preference. Twain's Vice (scotch, rosemary, maple, lemon) - Served in a camping mug with a flaming stalk of rosemary lol. Kind of extra but tasted really good. The maple definitely comes through. All cocktails are $13. I'm sad that I don't live near Temecula so I can't come by often, but I'll be back when I'm in town. read more
