Just bought a certified pre owned Chevy Suburban from Thompson's GMC. I emailed the dealership to make sure they still had it in stock and was promptly emailed back by Steven Conner. Arrived in the morning and was greeted by Steven and he showed us exactly what we wanted to see. He didn't try to up-sale us or show us more expensive vehicles. He was very friendly and answered all of our questions. When he didn't know an answer he would immediately find out from someone who knew. We test drove, inspected, and he showed me some neat tricks about the SUV. When it came time to talk business he was very straight forward and treated me and my family like we were family. While negotiating he would check in with the sales manager, and the sales manager would come out and explain things to us. There was complete transparency. I've never seen anything like this in a car dealership. The manager was talking directly to us, no mysterious "manager" in a hidden office. I believe the manager's name was Alex, and he was very nice. We were offered a very fair amount for our trade in, and we were able to come to an agreement on a price rather quickly and absolutely painlessly. At one point Alex, Steven, and the finance manager Dan were all in the room talking on how to get us the best deal for our trade in, the price of the vehicle, an extended warranty and make sure we left as satisfied customers. We then went to finance and met with Dan, and he thoroughly explained every paper to us throughout the signing process. Quick and easy. I know in the business of sales, people are nice because they want you buy a car, but these guys were genuine and really took care of us. They gave both of my kids balloons, snacks, and drinks, and on the way out the owner was driving home for the day and he stopped and gave us a pie! Where to begin?! Seriously one of the worst experiences I've ever had. Now I understand the bad rap most used car dealerships get is unwarranted, but in this case it is. I'd been searching forever for a B8 Audi A4 Avant. They had a used one on the lot at a reasonable price. I drove out from Davis to check it out. Roughly 45 mins or more depending on traffic. Fell in love with car despite it having a few quirks. My fault, I know. Check oil light, service due light etc. They assured me it had gone through inspection and just needed the oil topped off. Requested service indicator to be cleared. They couldn't do it and said I had to take it to the local Audi deal in Sacramento. Fine. Drive it home and not 10 miles from my house the rear view mirror falls off... literally falls off. I call them right away and they say come back and they'd put it back on. Now granted, that's almost 2hrs of my life and mileage wasted. So I take it back only to find out that the mirror they had put was not the right one for the car. I sourced the correct one and made another trip out for them to install it. Promised me an oil change, nope. They did reimburse me for the mirror and gave me a tank of gas, but still. Then about 2 weeks after that the oil light came on again. Added oil and 2 weeks later again. So I go through 2 quarts of synthetic oil every month. After that the parking brake sensor failed and the warning light comes on periodically. Then 2 weeks ago my blind spot warning sensors stopped working. Now today the car started to idle really rough and died on the freeway. WTF?! Getting it towed and having diagnostics run. No matter what they say, a used car salesman is still a used car salesman. They lied about service records, they lied about inspections and maintenance. read more

First time buyer here, and I couldn't be more pleased with my experience at Thompson GMC. I live 5 hours away, so what type of transparency I would receive was a huge concern of mine. I was initially met by Nicole, who was very kind. I then was transferred to Johnny, who was very helpful in getting me approved. Both were very prompt and only addressed my wants and concerns which I appreciated. As a first time buyer, the influx of offers and deals can be a bit confusing ultimately overwhelming, but they went at my pace. Because I was hesitant on committing to the buy, I was told that they had to give another person the respect of an already scheduled appt by another potential buyer. At first I thought this was a selling tactic, but my doubts were soon extinguished with play by play updates from Johnny. Fortunately the truck wasn't for them. I called Thompson's to see about purchasing a new 2500 Sierra. After speaking with roughly 8-10 other dealers who notified me that there was a First Responder discount, I asked Thompsons if they would honor it as well. They said due to a "shortage" of inventory, they would not honor the discount at this time. I am not one who needs recognition for my job but I find this incredibly offensive and embarrassing for them to act this way. If you are "honoring" a group of people, you do it no matter what, not when its a convenient time for you. It's sad because I would prefer to shop local as I have lived here my whole life but now I will drive past the dealership that is 5 minutes from my house and go to Sacramento or the Bay Area. It's a very despicable thing that they are doing this and it is not a good representation of El Dorado County. I had a terrible experience with them when I bought my first vehicle 12 years ago. My wife had a terrible experience when she bought her first vehicle from them 10 years ago. We both had an awful experience trying to buy a Grand Cherokee from their Dodge Dealership. I bought a new 2014 GMC Sierra from Thompson's a few months ago. I wanted a 2014 GMC when I heard that they were redesigning the body/interior/engines and went to all of the local dealerships around me to inquire about when they would be available to order. The GMC dealerships in Folsom and Roseville had no idea about anything and seemed less than interested in me because I wasn't buying a 2013 that day. I ended up going up to Placerville and talking to Steve Rector at Thompson's. He didn't have a lot of information about the arrival of the 2014's but was more than happy to share what little information GM had made available. I told him that I would be special ordering my truck as I wanted certain options. He had a sheet that showed the build options available and went through it with me. Although he couldn't order it yet, he said he would put the order through the day ordering opened. The day ordering opened, I got a call from Steve letting me know that he could put the order in and that he just wanted to verify the order so I got exactly what I wanted. He told me it would be 6-8 weeks and about 6 weeks later I got a call from Steve letting me know that my truck was in transit. A few days later, another call to let me know it had arrived and was in detailing. When I got there, it was a very pleasant sales experience. What seemed to be the entire staff at Thompson's, congratulated me on my new truck (it was the first 2014 they'd seen) and commented on how beautiful it is. We did the paperwork based on the number we agreed on when the truck was being built (that's something else deserving of a comment - below) and everything was smooth and painless. Steve took the time to go through the many options on the truck with me and to show me how everything works. He sync'd my phone, set up my free OnStar and got me down the road with a huge GRIN. Steve also followed up with me a few days later to make sure I Love the truck and see if I had any questions for him. Also, when I was hunting for information before I went to Thompson's, I was told by Roseville GMC that if I ordered the truck from them, "it will be at MSRP, no lower cause it's a 2014." PLEASE! Steve gave me a much better, no hassle price and I can honestly say that the whole deal just went perfectly. I will never buy another GMC truck anywhere else. It is a pandemic economy and Thompsons Buick GMC provided the best service... My wife and I planned to purchase a new truck for months. We knew trucks were in demand. But in the SoCal market we could not find a Dealership or Salesman that were up for the challenge. We were working with brokers. In addition, we were willing to purchase direct from dealer, but had 2 trucks sold out from under us. Time was quickly slipping away. On our 3rd try purchasing thru a dealer, we found our desired truck within 50miles of our location, but ... they refused to hold or sell it to us online or over the phone! When we drove out the same day...it was sold 15minutes prior. They didn't even call us back to tell us. They then offered another truck that they said was the same (save for the color). It was only after financing that we discovered that it was not. It was a short-bed not a standard bed. That night I contacted dozens of dealerships from Seattle, Denver, Boise, Butte and everywhere in between. Kyle Ryan of Thompsons Buick GMC called me back next day, Sunday morning at 10:01am. They were equipped to sell remotely prior to the pandemic. We were under contract within the hour. They then expedited shipment of the vehicle from NorCal to Socal. (Oh, and that other dealer, they could not docusign or overnight paperwork to cancel our transaction. We had to drive back to provide wet signatures!) From Sales to Finance to Delivery ... Thompsons knew the process should be simple and achievable via mobile. Whenever I had a question, they had a direct answer often providing photo or video so I could verify with my own eyes. In the end, all the well-funded, heavily marketed online car vendors and local lots did not have the care or ability to handle such a tough market. "I had to negotiate like crazy with an argumentative sales..." Update: Nothing about my initial experience has changed but I did receive appropriate and prompt attention to my problem after making my complaint repeatedly known to the dealer. They have fully addressed my concerns and have taken concrete steps to rectify my issues and bring my car back to full working condition. I and to negotiate like crazy with an argumentative sales associate to get a second key in my deal. Dealer never provided second key (deal closed almost 4 months ago). Followed up 3 months later (2 months and 2 weeks after the key was supposed to be delivered) when I really needed second key hoping they had ordered it and just never called. Never ordered and now will take an eternity to get there. I now have no keys and will be waiting at least 7 business days to get any key. I will also have to pay out of packet or use my own roadside to tow my VERY expensive driveway brick to the dealer to get the key programed. I bought a Yukon from them 5 years ago and was excited to come back because of the positive experience I had. Obviously that was a mistake. Argumentative sales person, unhelpful service department and in inept deal closure department that NEVER did its job. This dealership is not the one I bought a car from before. Thompson do your job. Don't withhold waybill items (intentionally or unintentionally) from customers. They are either negotiated parts of the deal or things we have paid for at sale. They are legally ours and getting upset with us about you not doing your job is a nail in the coffin issue for me. read more

Thompsons auto purchase round 2. So yes i am back once again. 1 week after I purchased a new truck a family member ran over something on the freeway and totaled the shamry. As soon as I new what we were going to recieve from our insurance I placed a call to Sean. He again worked his magic and met my needs on a new Terrain. All this was done with 1 phone call and a few texts while I watched TV in my own living room. Not sure if it was Covid or just job experience that changed the game of sales but SEAN and the Thompsons staff got something going on.
