Love this place!!! I went on a Tuesday to check it out, and it was so awesome, I went back on Friday! The location is alright, quite a ways away from downtown, but that isn't always a bad thing. It is located in a strip mall, so they are a little bit on the smaller side, but the wait didn't seem to be long at all, and we got to sit at the bar in the meantime. They are not just a beer only brewery. They actually have liquor, cider, beer (and maybe even mead? I cannot remember). They also do flihts and growler fills! They also have awesome food - we got a pizza, and honestly, looking around, there were pizzas on most of the tables, so that might be their specialty! The crust was on the thinner side, but still somewhat soft, and not crunchy and rock hard, which is a plus for me. The service was pretty good. Although twice we had the wrong beer brought to our table, it was a fuss-free correction. I would highly recommend coming here, and getting a growler to go! read more

I've heard a lot about this place online. I decided to go there by myself for a late brunch and because I'm on a quest for the perfect Bloody Mary. I received a glass with bacon infused vodka and was told to help myself to all the fixings and accoutrements. They had everything one needs for a great Bloody Mary...not just zing zang. I also received a taste of cider and of beer. Both were excellent, but I was there for the perfect Bloody and I wanted to be able to drive home. I will come back for those. I ordered chicken and waffles. The chicken was a fried fillet of chicken breast seasoned and perfectly done. The waffle was drenched in bourbon barrel maple syrup. Some day I will have a bottle of that. My server was friendly and attentive and I sat out on the patio. The sun was shining, and life was good! read more

Came by on a Saturday in late October with my husband and 2 year old. Found parking easily and walked in to plenty of table options. Our server was pretty attentive right off the bat, but it became apparent when the lunch crowd hit, that they were pretty tight on help. They were out of the pretzel so we opted for the polenta fries. Meh - wouldn't order again. The Turkey sandwich was awesome and HUGE! Kids grilled cheese was literally the same size as my sandwich.. so we were able to take half home (plus it was really good!) both came with large portions of french fries. Hubby had the white chicken chili and house salad - both were good. Ranch tasted homemade and was very good, too! Hubby ordered a flight to start and wasn't impressed with anything - esp not the purple beer (a Hefeweizen!?). He ordered a pint of a different beer but never got it.. again, we pretty much got forgotten about once our food came out. No refills and our check took forever. Due to covid, there aren't many places you can go to, sit down and have a meal. We were pleasantly surprised when we pulled up and saw that we were able to do it here!!!! The had an "igloo" and 2 spaces outdoors that you were able to reserve, each separately space has its own heater so you aren't cold. How great is that?!? Everything came out in to go contains which was completely fine with us. The food was so so yummy and the services was amazing. I got the burger and my hubs got the Alfredo pizza... Thornapple Brewing is great! Karaoke is super fun on Fridays while enjoying some amazing pizza or the pretzel and beer cheese which I actually think are both probably the best in Grand Rapids. We got here at 8 pm on a Saturday night for dinner after our original dinner plans fell through. There was a two-man band playing so we tried to sit as far back as possible. Normally I would have walked out but we were desperate. The staff was a little unorganized but busy and friendly. We sat ourselves and someone stopped by to take our order. I ordered the smoked brisket sandwich and my wife ordered pizza. Both were very good. My order got missed so our waitress took it off the bill which was not necessary. I ordered one of their IPAs and it was very good. Overall a pleasant experience and we would go back again at a time when there wasn't live music. read more

If you've ever had the trouble searching for a brewery that opens before 3:00 pm then I feel your pain but, if you are in the Grand Rapids area this brewery and restaurant that will solve your problem. It opens at 11:30 and besides good beer it has really interesting food. We had a couple of things from the menu. First we tried the Pork Belly Nuggets and found them to be outstanding, both sweet and hot and an even number so easy to share. We went on to the Mac and Cheese with the BBQ Pork which was also excellent. I had a couple of the IPA's and both were good. When we were there on a Tuesday there was only one person working. She was the bartender, server, runner and busser all rolled into one. She was fantastic. There are other things on the menu that I hope to try soon. read more

Thank you thornapple for always giving us wonderful hospitality. It is always a pleasure coming here and getting great service. I personally enjoy the booth option to the right with the tables made out of huge slabs of wood. They are fun to look at and get lost in their patterns. The bar is made out of beautiful wood planks as well lining almost the whole back wall of the space. The space definitely feels like a brewery which is a good thing. Not too big and not too small. Each time I have been in there are about a dozen beers to choose from as well as cider and I believe wine. The brown eyed girl seems to be pretty popular. I still have yet to try the food but I hear excellent things about the pizza. I promise myself to go when I'm hungry next time! I stopped by the Thornapple Brewery a few days after the crowds had died down from their grand opening. The staff was very attentive and gave some excellent food and drink recommendations. Not being the biggest beer fan, I was very impressed with their Cider and Mead selections. I particularly loved the dry zing of their "Refresco" cider. The BBQ chicken pizza I ordered made an excellent pairing with it's rich smokey taste and just a hint of sugar. I also sampled their cheesecake, which was deliciously creamy, but at the same time didn't overwhelm me with its richness. I could tell their chief had taken the extra time to make the crust by hand, which was a rare extra touch for an establishment of their size. Thornapple clearly hits a home run in the Cascade area, bringing this review up to 5/5 stars. read more

What a great new brewery! The wife and I tried it it out with our 14 month old, and it was a great experience. We shared a Hawaiian pizza and got the kids mac n' cheese for our daughter. The pizza is some of the best I've had in GR, and the Mac and cheese was homemade. Definitely a plus in my book! The noise level was fine, loud enough that our daughter didn't bother anyone, but not so noisy that we couldn't talk. As for the beers, they have a great variety, most that I tried were very good, especially for a new brewery. If you like darker beers, their selection was great for August. My wife and I went on a Sunday afternoon. Pretty sure they aren't usually as busy as they were or they had someone not show up. The bartender was also the server that day and he was swamped. Kudos to him as he tried to keep up and he really did a great job. Was the service slow? Yes, but I could see why and it obviously was not his fault. He was literally service bar and orders for 26 people. When he finally got to us, I told him to take our appetizer and drink order and just come back for our food order when he could make it back. Onto the food. We were told that it was $4 off pizzas on Sunday so we decided to get a couple appetizers and one pizza instead of one app and 2 dinners. Thought this was also a great deal for us because she really wanted to try the cheese curds and I wanted a pretzel and cheese. I loved the pretzel and she loved the cheese curds. We then ordered what was basically a meat lovers pizza. The pizza was really good. I just thought it was a little small for the price. Luckily the bartender got help about half way through our meal. That did help things move along. The only issue I had, and I didn't notice until I got home, was the $4 discount wasn't on my bill. Oh well, I should have caught it before paying. Food (though small portions) and beer was good. However, terrible service. This wasn't of fault to the servers, but rather a staffing issue. No table bussers or hosts and inadequate number of wait staff. One of the servers was pretty unfriendly, and though he probably could have been less short with us, I know he was overwhelmed. Multiple tables came and left due to never receiving service. We would have given the benefit of the doubt that someone just called off (as we have worked in restaurants for much of our lives and understand). However, we met two strangers at the next brewery we visited and they let us know that this is a consistent problem in terms of service and staffing. We likely won't return but hope that management takes this issue seriously. read more

Wow! Super neat place tucked into a strip mall! Would never have guessed how cute it would be on the inside. Tried the meads, a couple beers and a cider and all of them were solid. Wish they would have had more stouts because those are my favorite, but it IS summer. Started out with the hummus and the the regular hummus was good, but the pesto hummus was divine. Literally the best hummus I have ever had. And I really liked the veggies plus the bread for dipping! Afterwards we ordered the BBQ chicken pizza and everyone at the table agreed that was great too. We didn't stop at dinner and ended up splitting a couple pieces of cheesecake and the chocolate cake. I think someone might have licked one of the plates had we not been in public. The rasberries on top of the cheesecake were ripe and the crust was also super yummy. I think the cheesecake had a tad of lemony flavor which was refreshing while the chocolate cake was purely decadent. It was quite busy but the tables turned over pretty quickly. We were a slightly larger group and got to chatting and the servers remained attentive throughout. Pro tip: if the sun is out, it is a little warm even with the shades down. The best place to eat and drink in Cascade!! Delicious and unique pizza with their own spent grains in the dough- perfect crispiness and tons of flavor. They have really friendly service and a beautiful patio to safely dine "in". Last time I was there I bought gift bottles of vodka for friends who all gave rave reviews. We have been here several times over the last few years, used to come for the amazing pretzels but the last 2 times the pretzels have been horrible and service is always terrible. I always have to wait forever for someone to make contact, it's to the point that it feels like they want people to get tired of waiting and leave which I almost did today and honestly would have been better off if I had.
