Great burgers fries. The hi Ken sandwich is to die for. I wish it was open more consistently. Hours seem random.

Impressive cocktail menu, and notably one of the better non-alcoholic mocktail programs I've seen in the entire Greater Portland area. The crab dip was as every bit of sensational as I expected. Bread is always a good choice, but honestly, there's not enough for the dish. I think they could do something special with Ritz Crackers here to complement. We ordered the daily special, a beef brisket with celery root/potato mash and brisket filled ravioli with a truffle cream sauce. The ravioli was the winner here for me - I would bottle up that truffle cream sauce and sell it. I love that they kept a good portion of the original framework of the building - it adds to the romantic touch to the rustic interior. Open concept kitchen at the platform made it fun to peep into every once in awhile during dinner. Great for date night and special occasions.

If you're anywhere near Yarmouth and even slightly hungry, make the reservation at Royal River…read moreGrill House. It's one of those places that never misses. Let's start with the cocktails, because they truly deserve top billing. I always order the seasonal espresso martini, and somehow it just keeps getting better. This time it was tiramisu-inspired, and it was unreal. Rich, balanced, not overly sweet, and actually tasted like the dessert without feeling heavy. Whoever is behind that bar knows exactly what they're doing. The fish and chips? You cannot go wrong. Perfectly crisp batter, flaky fish, and fries that hold their own. It's one of those dishes you order once and then find yourself thinking about days later. That said, everything we've tried over multiple visits has been consistently excellent. It's the kind of menu where you feel safe branching out because you know it's going to deliver. The space itself adds to the whole experience. The architecture is beautiful, with warm wood tones and big windows that bring in natural light and make the river views part of the meal. It manages to feel polished and special without being stuffy. You can dress up a little or come in relaxed and still feel right at home. And the service is always attentive in that effortless way. Our servers have consistently been knowledgeable, present, and genuinely welcoming without hovering. It makes the whole night feel easy.

It was about 11:30 and the place was getting busy. By the time we left there was a short line out the door waiting to be seated and the parking lot was full. My fish sandwich and fries were fresh and tasty. My husband's chicken salad wrap and fries were equally good. Great views of the marina, comfortable tables, very good service. We will definitely be back.

Turns out, this place is way better than I expected. I had it in my head that it was some kind of tourist trap because of the location, but nope. It actually gives off super local vibes, and the food was REALLY good. I think this might be in my top three for best food-to-price ratio in the greater Portland area (does Freeport even count as that?). My "dish" was $11.99 and came with two eggs, two sausage links, two hash browns, and a homemade biscuit. The only thing I didn't get two of was the biscuit, but it was huge, so I was actually relieved about that. I left stuffed. More importantly, everything was really yummy! The hash browns were crispy but not greasy, the eggs were cooked perfectly sunny-side up, and that homemade biscuit... I could've taken another one to-go. Make sure you ask for it grilled; you'll thank me later. My husband got the biscuits and gravy and his food was just as good. Also, they have dozens of mimosa flavors. I had the pineapple mimosa and it was phenomenal. Service was great, too. Our server was friendly and super attentive. The vibe inside reminded us of some of our favorite diners in Massachusetts; no frills, nothing fancy, just a classic diner feel. Exactly why we loved it.

They were nice thick fry that was crispy on the outside and still soft and tender on the inside, and I think they were beer battered, which makes them even better. The Philly steak and cheese sandwich with a sprinkling of jalapeños on top was absolutely delightful. After talking to the waitress, I discovered that it's fairly new on their menu and there is a beer cheese sauce. I think she called it l, on the sandwich and it made for one of the best Philly steak and cheese sandwiches I've had in quite some time. The service was great. The atmosphere is great. The only thing that I struggled with here was the entire restaurant is freezing cold. They need more heaters in here, and then it would be a much more pleasant warm environment for my dinner versus cold. We ate here at the end of January right after a massive snowfall, and it would have been nice if it was toasty warm.

I have to say their menu was awesome and such a surprise to find in Yarmouth.

From musty dive hotel bar, and not one of the fun ones (well there was this one older lady that would serve you the strongest drink of your life whether you told her you were driving or not but other than that), to fine dining. Beyond impressed! This place is BEAUTIFUL and I don't know how they did it, but it doesn't have that smell anymore. And anyone that has been there in the past knows exactly what I'm talking about. Kinda like your grandmother's basement after a flood from 15 years ago that no one probably cleaned up. Yeah you know the smell. The short ribs were gorgeous, the reduction was perfect and the wild mushroom au gratin was heavenly. NY strip was perfectly tender, seasoned well and cooked to perfection. I'm never surprised anymore when a restaurant forgets what "medium" actually is. Sadly, I'm at the point where I'm surprised when they get it right. Pleasantly, but still surprised. This place, definitely gets my vote when I go to Freeport to spoil myself. If you haven't gone here yet, you're doing it wrong.

December 4, 2025 My…read moremother and I went to Porter's today for lunch. I hadn't been to the Harraseeket Inn for 25 years, so I was anxious to see what had changed. It took a few minutes to be seated, since no one was manning the reception station. Apparently that's waitstaff's job - when they're not doing 100 other things. This is an oversight on the restaurant's part and something I pointed out to the manager. Once we were seated though, our experience blossomed into something really wonderful. Neither my mother nor I ordered appetizers.... Since we figured that lunch would be enough (it was). They don't serve bread or crackers or anything as a gratuity - which is probably a cost-saving as well as time-saving measure. It also forces you into buying one of their "small plates" (appetizers), which looked wonderful but were also quite pricey. We also didn't order alcohol- which probably saved us between $30 and $50, since their cocktails were $15 and upwards. Same is true with their wines. Appealing but pricey. I ordered the beef short rib entree ($38) (see attached photo) with a small Caesar salad and their wild mushroom ragout. The beef was some of the best I've ever had. It was fork-tender, juicy, and flavorful in ways that are hard to describe. As for the wild mushroom ragout.... It was cheesy and delicious, but lacked any visible mushroom. I told our waitress so and I hope she passed it on to the chef. My mother ordered their Grilled salmon, served on a bed of cranberry quinoa and topped with an avocado sauce that was amazing (see photo). ($41). The food was so good that there was no hope of taking any home. We wiped out everything! (See photo) We hard coffee with our meal and with taxes and tip, the bill came to $118. Well worth it for such a fabulous meal. We'll go back, but with my father and eldest daughter in tow next time!!

We still love their smashburgers - you can get a signature one and you can build your own - they have really expanded options over the past 5 years. The chicken sandwiches are always so good. I recently discovered I loved the Jalapeño Popper Chicken sandwich. Their fries are always so great - especially if you have queso. Speaking of queso - one of the best things they have added to their appetizer menu...chips and queso- We love eating the leftover queso with our fries with our sandwiches. Chips have a lovely seasoning - sometimes a little heavy handed with flavor - but they are still delicious. I love their breadstick/pizza appetizer. it's more a focaccia bread and it's soooo good. Sometimes I just have that for my main meal. They have wonderful local beers in the cooler and wonderful sparkling non-alcoholic options as well. Don't forget to ask about their specials. In January we had the chicken curry soup - holy moly - it was SOOOOOO GOOOD!!!! And the warm pita that accompanies it. It's perfect. The shaved brussel sprout caesar is soooo good and VERY filling. While it's a small dining area - we have never found it crowded where there weren't seats. The food is just as delicious to-go. They do a ton of to-go orders.
