I've always raved about how Three Sisters is the best deal for ice cream in Providence. Although that is still true, the mediocre service really does sour the experience (as other reviewers have noted before). I decided to stop by and treat myself to a scoop one Fall afternoon. Upon entering, there was another customer still deciding what to order. He gestured that I should go first, so I walked up to the counter. I stood at the front near the the cash registers for over 5 minutes while the staff (4 or 5 workers) seemed to just be chatting amongst each other about 3 feet away from me in the left/back area. Many of the workers saw me and just decided not to take my order or ask me if I was ready to order... it was so strange, especially since I wasn't the only customer waiting! The worker who was clearly the manager didn't direct any of them to work the register or take any orders even when another group of customers entered the shop. Eventually my order was taken (very reluctantly might I add). The ice cream was tasty and affordable (which I knew was the case already), but the service was alarmingly unwelcoming. read more

We came here for breakfast, and got good service and food. Then, in the afternoon, when coming back for ice cream, we were treated with lower quality of service. We ordered a small Dutch chocolate on a wafer cone with a topping of gummy bears. What we got, however, was an upside down cone of chocolate in a plastic cup with gummy bears at the bottom. The servers were a group of teenagers, and when we walked in they were huddled in a corner against the wall behind the register talking. The person adding the gummy bears seemed to have messed up, and then called his friends all over and they all laughed in a group as if it were a great joke. I was waiting for my order, while they held it for at least a full extra minute, where it almost melted into the cup. It was unnecessarily messy to eat, and definitely not what we ordered. read more

By far the best ice cream in Rhode Island, maybe even the east coast. Their ice cream mix is fresh from SB Winser Dairy. Though ice cream is naturally heavy, they've somehow made it feel deceivingly light. Each flavor is well pronounced with just the right amount of sweetness. The ice cream is always fresh and never freezer burned (ew). My favorite flavor is the dirty garden mint. Apparently the Kulfi flavor won 2nd place in the RI Food Fights Ice Cream throw down. Had a Friendsgiving and called in an order of 3 pints of ice cream. Came In and told the woman my order and bought a coffee. I went and sat to wait. After I took my order the girl asked me if I paid. ??? I said yes along with this coffee In my hand. I leave get in the car and this girl follows me to my car, knocks on the window. Keeps knocking as though I don't see and hear her...because apparently she doesn't know the car has to be started in order to roll the window down. And says to me "the girl in there says you didn't pay." So I follow her in there and a new cashier is there says she didn't ring me up. I asked if she was ringing people up 20min ago and apparently a light bulb went off in her head. You people can't figure this out on your own like maybe checking order history to check who rung me up and cashed me out? An update for the update: Three Sisters is now all growns up. That beer & French fries thing they have? Do it. It's soooo goood. I love the new space; what was once dingy and dirty is now fresh and inviting. The large windows still make the place bright and sunny, and the new paint and menu boards take it to another level. Also, more seating! Yippee. In addition to the fabulous (and I mean FABULOUS) ice cream options (check out their daily specials, you guys) and sandwiches, they've now got a whole host of other items, too. Worth mentioning? Burgers. Fries. BEER. And these awesome ice cream drinks with coffee or root beer or any other soda you want... Fancy floats, I guess. The service is still friendly but made even better by their still-warm professionalism and efficiency. This is a popular spot, and it's all order-at-the-counter, and their menu is absolute huge, so my hats are off to these guys. They really took a great thing and made it better. Three Sisters is the first restaurant that inspired me to take pictures of food and share it on the internet, and not in a good way. Each time I have ordered their wrapped nachos and it's been ok, nothing that memorable, but it works if I'm in a rush on my lunch break. This time though my sandwich was half the size! I literally ate the thing in 5 bites, ya I tried to stretch the second half out a bit. My friend had the same problem, and commented that they switched from Cape Cod to Lay's potato chips so they might be trying to stretch their dollars a little bit more these days. Looking for the best ice cream spot in town? Well, here it is! On our weekend trip to Providence, my bf and I were determined to find the best summer ice cream shop. This place is located on Hope street right across from the park. When we went, we were pretty lucky to find street parking right out front, but there is a lot next door as well. The ice cream shop itself is actually attached to a small cafe that has several tables you can eat at if it isn't too crowded. The cafe also offers brunch foods including pancakes, sandwiches, and salads. There are a few tables outside where you can enjoy your ice cream on a nice day, which is exactly what we decided to do. Now get ready to wait in a line, because it seems like everyone else around knows just how good the ice cream is. Luckily the line goes pretty quickly and the servers are extremely efficient. They have a huge board where they post the flavors for the day. My suggestion is to pick a few off the board that you want to taste, and have those choices ready for when you get to the counter so as not to hold up the other hungry customers. I ended up getting the Green Tea and Purple Cow (black raspberry ice cream with fudge and cookie dough). Their Green Tea ice cream was delicious, creamy, and fragrant. The Purple Cow was amazing. I can't even explain how delicious it was, you'll just have to try it for yourself! My bf ended up ordering the Kulfi ice cream (sweet cream base with cinnamon and pistachios), which he could not have been happier with. The flavor reminded me a bit of a sweet rice pudding dessert, yum! Just over $4 for two scoops, this was scrumptious and definitely didn't hurt the wallet. I love coming here for the coffee and pastries alone- the coffee is from New Harvest and brewed with care, while the banana chocolate bread is dense and delicious and baked fresh so the chocolate is still all melted like it should be. For ice cream, there's a range of options in ice cream, sorbet, and yogurt. Oh, and there are smoothies, if you're into that. Although I'm partial to the pineapple coconut sorbet, I love the coffee crunch ice cream (coffee, Heath bar, and Oreo) because I like to pretend I'm both running a company and stereotypically at the beginning of a break up at all times. Mmmm Three Sisters was A+++. This quirky lil ice cream parlour & cafe serves up tasty frozen treats in never-before-seen flavors such as green tea chip and fluffernutter. The service is really nice and happy to let you sample some flavors before making up your mind. I got to try the alligator pie, banana toffee, and coffee crunch ice creams. All three flavors were incredible, but alligator pie was my favorite. It's green tea mint ice cream with Oreo and chocolate chips, and it's reminiscent of thin mints. I really like the texture of their ice cream, as it's creamy and elastic but not super thick. Their flavors are also very pronounced - my banana toffee ice cream legitimately tasted like banana rather than banana flavoring. Even though I just had it, I'm already craving alligator pie again! While we were in town, my girlfriend and I discovered that Three Sisters probably has the best ice cream in Providence. Admittedly, there isn't much competition, but with their house-made, unique flavors, they easily take the crown. With a nice array of tables inside and a few outside beneath an awning, Three Sisters is a pretty laid back place. With fun flavors like maple walnut, oreos and coffee, or coconut almond joy -- the menu is divided into ice creams that are always available, "get 'em while you can" and three flavor-based specials. My girlfriend opted for the black raspberry which she loved and I went for the green tea and kulfi (cardamom, cinnamon, pistachios) SO GOOD! Beyond ice cream, they also have smoothies and casual lunch/dinner food like sandwiches and burgers. Pricing is very reasonable and there is plenty of seating. Let me start by saying that I used to frequent this place years ago but it had been ages since I had returned. Not because of any issues with their food but just because I just hadn't been back for quite some time. But I decided it was a hot day and ice cream would be a really nice end to my evening and so I stopped by for an ice cream cone. I ordered the Savanna Socialite and it's description said it was Milk and Dark Chocolate with roasted pecans. When she handed me my ice cream it was pale and far from resembling any chocolate ice cream I have ever seen. It was pale and lacked any chocolate flavor and there was no dark chocolate ice cream to be seen. The amount of overrun made it taste like cheap economy ice cream from the local supermarket. Fairly priced food, tons of variety, reasonable hours, something for everyone, beer, and they have ice cream! Menus sit on a small table as soon as you walk-in. You order at the counter and give your name. Outdoor and indoor seating. Very spacious and even on busy Saturday and Sunday mornings, there appears to be a place for everyone. Iced coffee is delicious with lots of different flavor options. They use coffee cubes instead of regular ice, which guarantees that your iced coffee won't be watered down. It's genius! I think more coffee places should do this. Sausage egg and cheese on a croissant, banana chocolate chip pancakes, any of the muffins, iced green tea, iced tea, and iced coffee are a few of my favorites! My only complaint about Three Sisters is their bagels. Which I don't blame them for, as it seems that they are outsourced. They're too hard on the outside and more like a dinner roll than a bagel on the inside. I haven't tried the beer and french fry thing I've read so much about on Yelp, but I am most definitely intrigued! I also haven't tried the ice cream, but as soon as the weather gets warmer I'll update. As I entered, I literally almost shattered the front window with the door because it had broken away from the arm thing that prevents you from doing just that. Scared the shit out of me as I walked in but someone quickly came by to fix it. After pausing for a moment to look at the menu board behind the counter I decided to go with the veggie burger. Not sure what came over me to order such a thing but I recall someone saying that it was one of the best they ever had. It comes with a side of carrot sticks and hummus... GET IT! I found a spot in the front window of the dining area. Plan ahead if you need to charge your laptop because all the plugs are covered completely over. I assume it is so people don't spend all day at their tables taking up space for people to eat. I agree but then I don't! The problem is, is that they are a coffee/ice cream shop as well as a full-on restaurant. I would like to come by more often to grab a bite, a coffee and to do some work. I hope that is ok? The whole plug thing kinda made me uncomfortable as I no longer know whether pulling out your laptop is a bad thing. The Burger... That veggie burger was ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE. It was one of the best burgers I have had in a while and it had NO MEAT... There was so much going on, the right texture, the right balance of flavors. I honestly didn't miss the meat one bit. The side of carrots and hummus... Incredible. Some of the best hummus I think I have ever had... So damn good! After I finished my lunch, I went back to the counter to grab a mug of coffee. This ice cream is definitely better than anything you'll find at a chain restaurant, in your grocery freezer or 90% of homemade ice cream shops. There's something about it that really takes it to a whole new level. I also love the food that I've had there; paninis are tasty and all of the ingredients taste fresh and organic (not sure if it's certified but it "tastes like it" -- if that's possible).
