I brought my dog in the other day due to him being a super senior dog (their words). In this visit we found out that he has mild dementia, severe cataracts, arthritis and hearing loss. A lot to deal with in 1 visit. Clearly I was the one who was more shaken up. The vet tech asked all the right questions and was able to understand what I was saying thru the tears. When the vet came in she was also understanding about my options regarding pain management. I will say when I did make the appointment the person working the phones was very comforting. She listened to me thru my tears and said if I ever needed to call and talk she would be there. This is why we will be back. read more

Everyone is so nice. I was bringing my cat in when he was at the end of his life and the staff was so kind and empathetic and tried everything they could for him. The experience was as good as It could have been. Recently my dog passed at home so when I was communicating with the receptionist on next steps she was such a good listener and made it easy. Today I picked up his clay paw print from them and the same front desk girl was in and it was good to see her, she is still empathic and seemed to remember my good dog. We switched vet offices to here from Manchaca Village because Thrive is way less and my cat was traumatized and scared of Manchaca's new vet. He went into Thrive for a checkup, vaccines and dental exam. My cat inherited bad teeth and I knew he had tartar and never had a teeth cleaning before. He also had a cyst on his lip. So I was given a quote for a teeth cleaning with X-rays and addressing the cyst and it was a 1/3 less than I'd found at the old vet and half of what I was getting quotes from at another place. I thought we had agreed to also remove the cyst while he was under because it wasn't going away and seemed to bother him. Plus it was on the estimate. The vet said it was cosmetic but I know if I had a hard cyst on my lip, it would bother me too. All was set and I brought him in at 7:30AM and his surgery was to be midmorning and pick him up about 2PM. Well while I was updated on how he was doing, they didn't start the surgery until close to 3PM!! I got a pic of him in the cage. So I asked how he was and they said fine. Then I said he seemed rather alert for coming out of surgery. That is when I found out he had been in the cage all day and not operated on yet. Sigh. Poor thing to be there all day with no food and in a bright noisy environment not knowing what was happening. Anyway I picked him up about 5:30 and he was groggy but happy to be going home. It was after he was home for a bit that I saw his cyst hadn't been removed. They only did his teeth. Ugh! So I called and they offered if I brought him him in a few days that they'd waive the anesthesia fee, but then quoted me twice as much if not more as what it was before on the original estimate. This is upsetting because I didn't want to put him through another surgery and especially so soon. The original quote was online and now wasn't available and I didn't take a screenshot. What was $250 range now was $750 range. If there was a question of what to do, why didn't anyone clarify with me with a text or phone call? Instead it just wasn't done. They've all been very nice and the vet is caring and knowledgeable but to mess this up is frustrating. I'll be back with my other fur babies to this location but in the future I'll make sure a surgical mistake like that doesn't happen again. read more

We switched to Thrive from Tanglewood VCA. It is a fantastic office, the staff was friendly and so helpful. They listened to my concerns, we made a plan for my dogs health, and they didn't pressure me to anything I wasn't comfortable with for him. The office is very clean and modern in the lobby. With Covid precautions you are only allowed to do a lobby drop off and you wait in your car. I really appreciated the text communications during the appointment. I think we have decided to fully use Thrive as our veterinary office. My dog is very anxious and the technician was so kind and patient with Him. We brought our dog here for wellness visits and shots- usually about $300 each visit. Each visit she was seen about 20 minutes after her appointment time, and the visits are very rushed. Even after telling them I just need the prescription for heart worm medication, they still charged us for it. After getting many emails about being overdue for our dogs annual check up I called to make an appointment, where I was told, in a very rushed conversation, she didn't need it yet. I later had some concerns about a change in my dogs behavior and called her vet office, the receptionist told me not to worry but if it continued to happen then to call back and make an appointment. The same thing happened the next day and I called to see if she could be seen. The receptionist put me on hold for 20 minutes, then gets back on and rudely states "I told you yesterday to take her to an emergency clinic"- that was never said to me. If it had been portrayed that she needed emergency care the first time, I would have immediately taken her. I am so grateful for the care and concern from all the Staff and Dr Carn gave our Bear (Pembroke Welsh Corgi) during the last 9 days, he suffered an injury or sprain that caused an extreme amount of pain, he cried out at any attempt to comfort him, he was unable to lift his head, eat, drink, walk, even sleep, he became dehydrated and very lethargic, it is Heartbreaking to watch, listening to his cries, trying to comfort him, hand feeding him. Calling in daily for assistance till our appt was a blessing and much needed care and support, not to mention we had not been in for initial visit/well care for our 10yr old Corgi, they went beyond as if Bear was theirs!! Of course there was the "you can take him to an Urgent Care or Vet Hospital", unable to afford the $$$ (undetermined) we waited on a Stand-by and support which turned out to be a near Miracle!! I could go on about the Care, Concern and Professionalism we experienced. Our Bear is on the way to a full recovery and Thrive Pet HC has become our new Veterinary. I brought my doggie for his vaccines and flea treatment, he has an anxiety and fear problem which was the reason he was wearing a muzzle. Because of Covid-19 they came outside to my car and got him so I couldn't go with him. About 25 minutes later a personal called me telling me that kleber (my dog) bit one of the co-workers and that I was going to receive a call from the City because they probably are taking him for Quarantine. Even though I told them not to remove his muzzle off, for some reason they did remove it. Because all of the conmotion that was going on they didn't tell me which vaccines they applied on him. I called back, and called and called only to be waiting on the phone and being hung off by a stupid machine without any answers. I got a receipt of $217.00 charged twice for same vaccines really??? That wasn't even the worst part... Now the City is taking my sweet dog to the Animal Center, thanks to these unprofessional "Vets". Worse experience ever. That's their company policy. Fine. We came back the next day after giving her the anxiety medicine we paid them for and she still didn't want to leave our side. They said we could get her eyedrops that she needs and set up a later time to try again for shots. We explained that we would go to our old vet where they let us sit with her and she's been fine in the past. She then refused to give us the eye medicine she needs because we didn't want to use Thrive in the future. They care more about a quick buck than they do taking care of the animals. Took our dog to the vet. They tried to force us to give our dog a rabies shot because she had already been bitten by another dog. Our dog was vaccinated. The purple-haired technician was so timid and standoffish that she would not even touch our dog and made us put a muzzle on him. This was so surprising. Don't be a vet if you hate animals. This one is also not connected to a pet store. My sister set up this appointment for me as I was pretty sure I needed to put my sweet kitty to sleep. She and I met there, with Maddy, my cat. From the time we walked in they were kind and attentive. The vet tech walked me through the procedure after asking several questions about Maddy's status. After she had gone over everything, she asked if I would like some time with the vet to answer any questions I might have. I said yes. Within a couple of minutes a lovely young woman came in and talked with us for over 30 min. Sitting on the floor monitoring Maddy, pointing out things she was seeing and genuinely offering compassion for a very tough decision. Ultimately, I made the heartbreaking decision to put Maddy to sleep and the vet was with me every step of the way explaining. As hard as the decision was, the vet gave me some much needed validation and comfort. And my sister is...well, the best ever...but I'm not sure I can rate my sister on Yelp! It is easy to schedule, add vet records, and pay. pretty much everything was sent in a link via text - even the invoice, which was super convenient. The vet tech and the vet were both very nice, attentive, and sweet to my cat. They took time to ask about any relevant history or concerns outside of what I scheduled for, BUT didn't try to up-sell me on a bunch of products or services. That was a welcome change. This place is a disaster all the time, especially since COVID. It takes 3-4 weeks to schedule an appointment. They don't have any walk-ins (even if you pay for the yearly pet package). I ended up going to an emergency vet for a simple ear infection. I am so glad to have found the vet and the techs here. I have found the vets in the Manchaca area to have terrible bedside manners, and I was done with all that with my last dog. Now, my cat, one I inhereted with the house, suddenly needed care, which started with a preliminary check at an emergency vet, which I then chose to have treated at a regular vet (cost) and found Thrive. I'm glad I did. The vet was so nice and helpful. I felt like my cat was being well looked after and the techs were wonderful. Also friendly but professional. The cost factor was a huge deal for us and I'm so glad to have such quality care so close to home that's affordable. My other vets thought I was some kind of piggy bank and wanted to rack up charges like it was free money day. They didn't do that to us here. We ended up at an emergency vet and found that had we waited one more day our boy would have had a burst bladder and died. DO NOT USE THRIVE PET CARE. They are basically a network and revenue driven pet Jiffy Lube that really only wants to care for healthy pets. Sorry for the rant. This was probably my best visit in a couple of years and I have only gone to them for 4 years for all 3 of my dogs. They send out the check in before you get there which makes everything not take as long. And they also printed out the vaccine records at the end of the appointment without asking for them to which is a first. We were in-between vets and needed to get our four-year old Husky's yearly vaccinations and testing done. This is a comprehensive set of services which includes, despite our pup being continuously on preventives, a standard heart worm test to rule to out a breakthrough infection. Because of problems in previous vet settings we've always opted to be present for procedures during our dog's service. This was respected and accepted with our original vet as well as places I was vetting to start a new vet relationship. When the test was about to be done I was informed by the tech that they wouldn't allow me to be present and chided me for not implicitly trusting them with my dog. This experience degraded any trust I might have built with Thrive as a potential new client. When I mentioned this to management in an email they dismissed me further, declining a phone conversation, which let me know that being disrespected and shamed by their tech staff was acceptable and probably a common part of their practice. On the positive side, I found Dr. Tung, a vet very new to practice who saw our girl, to be a competent and compassionate doctor. One of their front-end persons was also accommodating and kind. That said, we won't be bringing our business back to Thrive. Because of their dismissal of our needs as pet owners, this is not a place we want to return to. Too many veterinarian offices are blind to the fact that treating pet owners with care and respect is just as important to the equation when it comes to helping keep their pets healthy and happy. It's unfortunate and seems odd that it's so hard to find a great vet who values us as much as our beloved pups. We're devoted pet owners, but there seems to be a problem in the industry recognizing the importance of trusting and valuing pet moms and dads. I have a 4 year old Labrador mix who has never had any health major health issues, and I've been coming to this Thrive location every 6 months since 2017 for his annual check-ins (vaccines, heart warm and flea/tick medications). We've never had any issues and the facility (pre-COVID) was always clean. I've never used them for my pup being sick but highly recommend them for annual maintenance for their prices (including teeth cleanings that start at around $200). POST-COVID: I stopped by today for my first post-COVID visit, and we waited in our car for a little under an hour. When Alphie was finally seen the vet apologized and thanked me for my patience over the phone which I appreciated. Prior to this COVID visit, I received a slew of emails and texts with detailed information on how to check-in (intake form, number to call once you arrive, etc). Just follow the directions in the emails/texts and you should have a smooth check-in process. Additionally, make sure you have time on your hands bc there may be a delay. Again worth it for the cheaper service for annual maintenance! read more

We attempted to euthanize our poor dog who was suffering from several severe behavioral issues but were denied assistance from our vet of 4 years. As this decision didn't come lightly, we knew that if our dog wasn't out to rest, she would live a miserable life of being muzzled and medicated for the rest of her life. We had spoken to several behavioral therapists and spent thousands of dollars trying to rehabilitate our girl but after our last session, our therapist told her we would need to put her down or risk her attacking someone. After speaking with the vet and explaining our decision, they refused to discuss euthanasia and wanted us to keep our girl medicated and muzzled as mentioned above. This was a way for them to still get paid while we forked over thousands of dollars in medication and treatments already. The fact that they would choose greed over protecting others is appalling and their vets should be ashamed of that! read more

Since no one was there I had to come later. Arrived later in the day and come to find out that the whole 2ML of medication was $10.50? Is this colored GOLD? QTY of 5 was $12.50 I paid 84% of the full price of 5 for just one dose. Incredible No compassion, first time using this type of syringe medication and no compassion / sympathy for a replacement due to human error. ** UPDATE ** District Manager called me and we discussed and worked out the medication cost issue and stated this would be discussed during staff meeting... If you need to visit Thrive, dont go around Noon, no one will be present to assit you thoroughly... Hoping this will be addressed and resolved as well in the future. read more

I brought my female dog in for a surgery and she comes home with FLEAS. I know she didn't have them before because she was never showing any symptoms. I asked THRIVE to pay for the meds but they wouldn't so I had to buy them. Their cheap ass flea pills were ineffective so I'm taking my dogs somewhere else. They have horrible customer service. Clean your dirty ass facilities and keep dogs with fleas away from dogs that don't have them. read more

This is NOT a Veterinarian Clinic to go for anything seriously wrong with your dog. I've waited a couple of months to write this review so as to not do so without results from the experience. I made several calls to different clinics after finding a problem on my dog and THRIVE was the first to return my call with an opening the same day. The opening was in the next 30 minutes due to a cancellation so I headed there immediately. I arrived with my French Bulldog who had a swollen scrotum with something going on inside. Once in the exam room, after a short wait, he was taken from the exam room to a area behind it and a female presenting herself as a veterinarian returned with him after about 15 minutes. She could not explain exactly what she thought was going on, stating that he could only be diagnosed with an ultrasound, which they did not have. She stated that he had most likely received some type of injury and she made a strong case for neutering him stating it would certainly solve whatever the problem was. Her explanation was a bit ominous and her recommendation was to schedule the surgery less than 2 days later as an emergency procedure. I explained that I was hoping to breed him this year to get another dog with his traits as he has proven to be the smartest, most loving fog I've ever owned and that's over almost 55 years of having dogs. There is nothing I would not spend to keep him healthy. I asked for options and was given none and made to feel that I was being unreasonable and selfish in wanting an option. Another person came in with a breakdown of the costs and I agreed to schedule the surgery. They gave me a prescription for antibiotics and instructions for the day/time and I paid the fees and left. I was rather heartbroken as well as scared. Frenchie's have a breathing issue and do not always fare well with anesthesia. Shortly after I got home I received a call from another animal hospital that they had a cancellation and I could bring him in if I wanted. I headed there immediately. Upon arrival I did NOT tell them anything about my visit to another clinic. I provided the same breakdown of symptoms as I did at THRIVE. We were led to an exam room and shortly there was a veterinarian in the room to examine him. During the exam the Dr discussed different things that could be going on with him and summarized that he felt that he had some sort of infection and was going to prescribe a regimen of steroids and antibiotics. After hearing that I relayed my experience at the other animal hospital their recommendation as well as their comments about ultrasound. He had a 2nd veterinarian exam him, they discussed it and concurred that spending money on an ultrasound at the moment OR removing his testicles was much to extreme. Especially in lieu of my desire to breed him. Their summary was to start the steroids and antibiotics and wait 3 days to see what result they would have. IF he did not show signs of improvement he would recommend the ultrasound to get a look inside. He made a comment that unfortunately some Dr.s are just cut happy with the idea that "cutting something out is a sure way to stop it from causing problems". 3 days later there was marked improvement and within 10 days my dog was fully recovered and back to being the high energy fellow I loved. It has been 6 weeks since his full recovery. There have been no recurrences and he is that happy loving dog I would spend anything on to take care of. Surgery, even something done as often as neutering, is not something to take lightly. I believe it is worth getting a 2nd opinion when time allows for it. In this case I received a totally different diagnosis and treatment recommendation that proved to work and maintain my dog as he was. Neutering him could have gone wrong as well as changed his personality. I've seen it in other dogs. I will write a separate review of the other clinic soon but will not use this to promote a different business. THRIVE seems to have the reputation of being cheap/reasonably priced. I paid no more at the 2nd clinic than I paid at THRIVE and received a totally different diagnosis and my dog is healthy and thriving almost 6 weeks later. I have a new Vet as a result. His regular vet was not able to get him in at the time I was calling. I believe so strongly in the clinic that cared for and treated my dog that they will get all my business from now on. I think this was a perfect example of the saying "You get what you pay for". I paid for a 2nd opinion as a result of hearing a remedy from THRIVE I felt was too extreme and I am very happy I did. I would recommend everyone get a 2nd opinion when considering surgery for their pet. Maybe THRIVE is a good place to get vaccinations done at a discount price but I'll never consider them for any quality care needs. read more
