After being disappointed by Mekong Sandwich, I'd written off banh mi as something I could only get closer to the center of Houston. But now, there is finally a place for banh mi not far from me! I absolutely love Thu Thu Sandwich For years I went to a sandwich place down Jones road that has been around for a very long time but found this gem this summer and have been eating here twice a week since then. We would usually go to Heavenly Beverages when we crave a banh mi but today I wanted to my Paki pal what a croissant banh mi tasted like. We ended up ordering the Beef Spring Rolls and Cheese Wontons to share. He ordered the Chargrilled Chicken Croissant and I orders the Cold Cut Croissant (Vietnamese Ham like). Beef Spring Rolls: MANNNN I just don't know how they made it so flavorful! You don't even have to dip it with the peanut sauce and it would've still tasted so good! Get it! Cheese Wontons: Nothing crazy there, tasted great like you typical Chinese buffet cheese wontons! Cold Cut Croissant: Overall it was good, but not the best one I have ever had. My favorite one is still Nguyen Ngo in Chinatown. With that being said this one was pretty good too. My Paki pal loved his chicken sandwich and once again praised the flavor of the chicken. They take Apple Pay! I know that doesn't mean much for most people but the fact that this little gem takes Apple Pay means the world to me. It's such a convenience. I don't like that they put "sandwich" in the name because it's a bit misleading...they offer so much more and the funny thing is, everything i've tried so far is better than surrounding competitors who make similar Vietnamese dishes. I used to frequent Pho Dahn but Thu-Thu's pho has won me over, hands down. Their tofu, #43 to be exact, is amazing. Skip Soto's and other places on Grant and try this place. Understand this is a "mom n' pop" place, the service is naturally a little slower when it's busy because of small staff. This is a new restaurant very close to my home. This is my first visit, but I am going to review it anyway. I was greeted promptly and politely at this not so busy time of 3:30 in the afternoon. Small cafe with seven 4 tops and one 2 top table and very clean. I started with the cha gio (fried egg rolls - 3 for $4.50). They were nice and crisp on the outside with a soft tender filling inside. More ground meat texture with some soft veggies inside the meat mixture but again it was crispy and not greasy. Served with romaine, cilantro and mint (which gave a new flavor profile for me) with the fish sauce. 4 stars. I next ordered banh mi thit nuomg (roasted pork - $4.95). (Btw - the only reason I'm using the names is that I have the menu in front of me- I usually just point). I can see where there was some discussion by other reviewers on the bread which looked a lot like a small french roll from Fiesta or bollilo. However, it was fresh, toasted and soft on the interior. The pork was tender, flavorful and juicy. I had to take the membrane from my jalapeño since it was a lengthwise cut with membranes and seeds which initially over-powered the sandwich, but I found it very tasty. 4 stars Onto the pho. ($7.95 one size -standard bowl) The broth had a bit of oil droplets on top and a touch of sweetness. (Come to think of it, the sandwich had a sweetness to the sauce). This slight excess of oil may be my fault since I requested more brisket over the lean beef. Nevertheless, the jury is still out on whether I like this "sweeter" broth better than the other local offerings, but it was not bad after adding the jalapeños, basil, cilantro and bean sprouts. 3.5 stars I would say for the first time, this is a solid 4 for the service and food. I ate most of my pho noodles but not the veggies and beef so I ordered a side of noodles for $1.95. I can now enjoy the pho tonight when I have more time. read more

I'm a lover of Banh Mi sandwiches and quality ones are tough to find in the suburbs. I like Mekong a lot but they close early. Tried Thu Thu as I live so close. The vermicelli bowl was okay. Needs more than lettuce and should have herbs otherwise it doesn't feel authentic. They did not have any chicken made so I ordered the pork. The pork tasted like it had been sitting a while. Wasn't hot. Noodles were perfectly cooked. Portion size on the vermicelli bowl was smaller than I've ever had from a Vietnamese restaurant but the price wasn't appropriately lower. I'm actually okay with smaller portions but not at the precise they had. The bahn mi sandwich was lemongrass beef and the taste was very good but again it did not taste super fresh which is a big deal for me. Bread tasted fine but did not have that crisp I'm used to with good bahn mi. Service was extremely friendly however I got my food a full 5-7 minutes before the others in my group. That is very annoying because I will NOT eat before everyone else gets their food though I at least took a few bites of each because I wanted to taste it hot and fresh (but it was neither). To sum up - I really, really want this place to succeed and I will be back in hopes of a better experience next time. I will try to go while there is more activity in hopes of the food being more fresh. I really think they are just a few tweaks away from being one if my favorite the area! This is a cute little store. They are really clean inside. I read some other Yelp reviews saying they experienced some problems with the door but when I came, it was fine. I think the store did fixed it. I did some research on the menu and I knew what I wanted before I stepped in. I ordered 1 beef banh mi and asked for an extra egg and 1 Thu Thu milk tea. It came out something $11. The waiting time was reasonable. I had some time checking on yelp for nearby hot and new restaurant so I didn't feel like I was waiting for so long. The lady who got my order was sweet and polite. I ate my banhmi after I got home. They had their banhmi in a small container not wrapped in paper as other places. It is a big plus for me. I made less mess and cleaned it easily afterwards. The banhmi was just so perfect for me. Omg! I must say " can i have a second one" after I finished my last bite and already felt full. Lol but that was how good it was. Banhmi was toasted, crunchy and beef was well-marinated. While the drink was just an ok, the banhmi was more than perfect for me. I will be back for sure, not immediately tmr lol but i will. The store is 15 minutes away from my house. If I live closer i will be there every other day. Decided to try Thu Thu Sandwich and was pleasantly surprised. Through the entrance that is laced with neon lights to attract your attention, I found a new and clean establishment. The menu offers items beyond the typical Vietnamese sandwich shop. I've opted for the grilled pork sandwich and paired it with the char-grilled lemon grass beef vermicelli. The outer edges of the grilled meat was nicely burnt, while not being dried out overall. Bread was flaky and the vermicelli (bun) was long and not over cooked (usually broken up in smaller strains if it was over done but not in this case). The food was made to order and it tasted so. The portion was adequate but living in Texas, unless the food is mound up like a small hill, we will always complain. Would also like fresh Asian herbs added to the vermicelli dishes as they only provide iceberg lettuce and bean sprout. The fish sauce was decent. Overall it was a healthy and local option for those that work and/or live in the 77070 zip code. The Thai tea tasted really good! I was disappointed that they ran out of Vietnamese ice coffee, but that was until I tasted the Thai tea. The service reps are nice. Tip: The entrance door is very hard to open. My friend thought that the place was closed because the door didn't open easily. When I was there, I noticed a middle age woman that tried opening the door and almost left because she couldn't open the door. I had to open the door and tell her that they were open. I decided to give this place a try since its literally like 2 min away from my house. Cute little family restaurant. The owners are very sweet and friendly. I ordered the Pho combination, and my cousin ordered their vermicelli bowl. Also we ordered two drinks to go, the matcha green tea w/ tapioca. Pho Dac Biet- The broth was very flavorful, but it had a very sweet taste to it. It tasted like they put a lot of sugar in their broth. In the beginning I liked the broth, and then towards middle to end all i could taste was a really sugary taste which kinda threw me off. I love drinking the pho soup and I just couldn't drink this broth because of the sweet flavor it had to it. Bun Thit Nuong- My cousin had this. She let me taste it as well. It was okay, lacked a bit flavor, and we were surprised it didn't come with pieces of fried egg roll like how every other Vietnamese restaurant prepares it. Matcha green tea w/ tapioca- Okay, this did not taste like it at all. It was very milky and creamy, I couldn't taste the green tea in it. The tapioca balls were the worse. Very mushy and old tasting. The drink period just tasted old like its been sitting around in the fridge. Not fresh at all. Overall, maybe I might come back and try their banh mi since I heard those were good there. Great Banh Mi sandwiches! Packed with meat, veggies, and flavor. I love that the business is family run & staffed. Our server (the owner's son) talked to us about the history of the business. He told us his mom got inspiration for her recipes from visits to Vietnam. I got the traditional pork Banh Mi and my boyfriend got the #15 concoction. I've been waiting for a good decently priced Vietnamese place in the Cypress area (particularly near Lakewood forest). I've had their vermicelli and rice plates and the meat on their is always seasoned perfectly. The egg rolls are also really good and how I remember eating them as a child. I know a lot of places around the Houston area like to use the rice paper wrapped, but this place doesn't do that and I like it that way. I am not used to sweetness in pork sandwiches so had it with a lot of sriracha sauce and I liked it. Excellent banh mi, spring rolls (have had beef, pork, and shrimp), and peanut sauce. Meat is always good quality and cooked well with great flavor. Bread has just enough substance to handle the ingredients but not too much and there is a good ratio of bread, meat, and veggies (always fresh and good quality). They include pâté which makes a difference. I recommend getting an egg added to your banh mi. Their service is always friendly and the restaurant and bathrooms are clean. The dishes served are top of the line home made, and out of the multiple Vietnamese restaurants that I have dined at, this one tops the others. Let me describe you my experience of not only eating such a delectable treat, but the environment of the restaurant. I came into the restaurant to work on a presentation, so they do have outlets provided for charging your laptops, phones, etc. It was my first time at the restaurant, and I asked them for their recommendations. I ended up eating one of their beef sandwiches with jalapeno and it was delicious. I don't eat many jalapenos, and even though it does have a kick, the structure behind making the sandwich is genius. When you take a bit of that sandwich, the bread, the beef, the sauce, the lemon grass, the cilantro, everything mixed so well. Then, I reached the jalapeno and the spicy kick made me feel not only heat, but taking another bite of the meat made the sandwich go from sweet, to a spicy meaty taste. It's like getting a whole new sandwich taste. Upon the spicy kick fading, I ended up having ANOTHER different wonderful taste once I was past the jalapeno. That taste was not just spicy, or sweet, but it was a light spicy with sweetness added. So for only $6, I ended getting a big sandwich, with three different tastes and my sinuses became just as clear as my eyes for this restaurant.
