Okay, the shop is a little old and dirty, they don't wear gloves while preparing your food, and the seating is fairly uncomfortable. But if you drank out of a hose as a kid, played with toys that had sharp edges and when you scuffed your knee you rubbed dirt in it to make it better, then you won't feel out of place here. read more

Don't let the dumpy vibe or stickler reviews fool you, these Subs are incredible. I got a Club with Cream Cheese, I never even thought to put cream cheese on a sandwich! The short hair girl behind the counter made me laugh my ass off the whole time she was making my sub, I love that they make it infront of you so their is NO WAY FOR YOUR ORDER TO COME OUT WRONG. We never ate at thunder cloud, but then they had their $1 anniversary special. Been going back ever since. Smart marketing on their part. Love supporting a local business with nice, fun staff. And Bc I have young kids, it's also SO nice that this location has a drive thru. One of our favorite summer activities is to grab some sandwiches on the way to Ramsey park where we picnic, play and sometimes swim. Great, cheap fun. read more

This is one of the older Thundercloud locations, so the interior is a bit dated. The workers are consistently friendly, but service can be a little slow. I like walking over here from my house, so I don't mind things being laid back. For vegetarian sandwiches, they're in my top tier. The Veggie Delight sandwich is usually great, either with hummus or cream cheese, and their Nada Chicken is an occasional treat. Unfortunately, their only vegetarian soup is the tasty green chili corn chowder which they don't always have. Ask for a chopped up jalapeno to spice things up a bit, it's only fifteen cents extra, I think. read more

This is by far the worst effort on any Thundercloud I've seen. The inside (behind the counter) is aged and filthy looking. The drive through is continually closed because people don't show up for work. Today, the location itself was actually closed because they didn't have staff to work it! All this is evidence that there is something seriously wrong with the managment at this location. It's fast and people even remember your name and what you've oreded before if you show up a few times. Very impressive Skywalker. This is my go to Thundercloud, best service in town! I will go out of my way to visit this location. I love the convince of the drive through and even with my picky order they ALWAYS get it right, which I truly appreciate seeing as great service isn't always easy to come by. Man I have been eating Thundercloud for almost 40 years! I have always been satisfied. Today I got Managers Favorite the egg salad with bacon and not even an hour afterwards I was struck with massive diarrhea and vomiting. It tasted fine but something obviously was off. I can hardly believe I'm giving my once beloved thundercloud two measly stars. You used to be so tasty I ate you at the least once a week. Was that not enough, tcloud?? Le sigh. I get attitude from almost every person that works there. The egg salad tastes like 95% of it is mayonnaise, and to add insult to injury, there was hardly any of the stuff on the sandwich. You changed the large size to 9 inches from 12 but kept the prices the same?? Wtf, thundercloud. I used to want to write songs about the veggie delight...now your employees roll your eyes if I ask you to leave the cucumbers and sprouts off. Last time she just decided to put lettuce on instead. In Allendale, there aren't a ton of places to get a sandwich. There's some Sandwich "Joint" place opening soon, but they've been saying that for months now, so it definitely has to be a front. Thundercloud Subs may not be the best sandwich place in Austin, but it's not a front for something unwholesome. The inside of this particular franchise is sky blue. Which I think is funny because the guys I always see working here don't look like sky blue is their favorite color. In fact, I bet sky blue pisses them off. But you never taste the anger. That's professionalism. I don't see any difference between this Thundercloud and any other one I've been to. The service is fine and the sandwiches taste about the same as elsewhere. I wouldn't say this Thundercloud stands above the rest for the food. It is what it is, and the food is good. I usually get the pastrami, and it is usually pretty tasty, although it has been a bit dry once or twice. I think what stands out at this Thundercloud is the staff. They seem happier than those I have seen at other locations and they don't act like they are doing you a favor by taking your order. read more

Normally I love thundercloud subs and always have a good experience... However this time I used the drive thru and ordered a veggie sandwich and added tuna. I do this all the time. The girl made noises and was so rude. I've gotten a meal here about once or twice a week for the last month, going the easy and cheap route. The people working are always really nice and cool, and I've never gotten a bad vibe. Seth specifically, I see there a lot, and he made a point to be super nice to my mom on her first visit there ('Yay Seth!') I almost always get the Nada 'Chicken,' and I do feel like, overall, I'm usually not asked about all the modifiers, like which kind of cheese I want (provolone, please) and sometimes it's missing tomatoes and onions, these things seem more likely to happen in the evening, when it's just the drive thru open and I'm calling in. I love everything that is Thundercloud, from the countless, affordable sandwiches that I've eaten over the years to the endless Austin musicians/artists/bartenders to whom it provides a day job. Before today, Thundercloud would have gotten a solid three stars from me in the lifetime achievement category: its sandwiches have always been proficient (but not magnificent), and its service has always been friendly-ish. But today is the end. After consuming a Turkey sub, I've been violently ill for six hours. Today's camp out on the bathroom floor is a silver bullet. How? How do you get a sub order wrong? This is what you do...this is what you get paid for...this is what I paid for..... . One of my biggest pet peeves is when someone can't get a simple order correct. I ordered a gluten free veggie sub with turkey and no onions. What did I receive? Gluten free veggie sub NO turkey and WITH onions. I promise this isn't that hard. I've seen a few reviews below that said the same thing about this location getting orders wrong - too bad I didn't see them before going here. Boo on you. I won't return because I can't stand being hangry and I turn into the friggin she-hulk when this happens. I will also not disgrace my stomach by eating a sub with no gobble gobble on it. I love thundercloud, but this location always leaves me wishing I had bought a 10 dollar sandwich somewhere else. They only put one slice of meat per sandwich before charging extra, and have messed up my order the past two times i went there. If you decide to pay extra for another slice of meat, that's all you're getting. One more slice. I don't know, I've never had any other tcloud mess up my order or charge extra for a normal amount of meat on a sandwich.
