I have been working at the airport as a massage therapist. I normally bring my lunch, but one day I didn't have time to prepare anything. Everyone knows that airports have notoriously high prices. One of my coworkers told me that Thurman's offers a child's meal for $5.99. It includes a burger and large steak fries . That sounded good to me...both the meal and the price! Nothing about this burger is old fashioned...it's a premade frozen patty (from the looks). I'm sure it was heated on a skillet but it doesn't look that way -- looks/tastes microwaved. I had a short time in Austin before my next flight home to Indy from the holidays, and needed a bite to eat, so I decided to go to Thurman's Old Fashioned Burger place to get get something to eat. I went to the kiosk menu and everything looked good, but wanted something simple, so I decided to just get the three piece chicken tenders with fries and a Starry to drink. My order was ready to pick up within a few minutes after I placed the order on the kiosk. The chicken tenders and fries were excellent and very fresh off the grill. It tasted perfect and comforting in my belly. For something quick and on the go, this was the perfect meal. Thurman's looks like a great burger place, and I'm sure the burgers are wonderful, but cannot speak to them since I did not have one. Airport food was always overpriced and now with food inflation it is even worse, especially when feeding three people. At twenty dollars per person, it ends up being sixty, and the food usually looks and tastes like it should cost about twenty total. Enter Thurmans kids menu. Six dollars gets you a one quarter pound burger or two piece chicken tender with sauce plus fries. Ordering on the kiosk weirdly charges for sauces but ordering in person does not. The food was made fresh and actually tasted good. The ranch and honey mustard really hit the spot and the fries, cut big which is not usually my favorite style, tasted just fine with salt and ketchup. Customer service needs to be reviewed because there was a very rude person at the desk! She failed to acknowledge me as I approached her direction, so I went to the self-checkout kiosk instead. When I went to clarify an item on it she acted very ignorantly. You would think that an employee would know that their kiosk has items on it that actually may not be available at certain times of the day. And instead of being condescending just explain that perhaps the kiosk will show all the items available, but in actuality there's another menu that has the correct items that are available for the time of day. read more

That's everywhere you go in the world, with the only variance being just how much that food is overpriced. I needed a quick means of refueling before a flight and decided to give Thurman's a go. I settled on the 1/2 lb Signature Cheeseburger as it looked appealing despite the price ($17 with fries, $19 if you get a fountain drink-what a bargain!). My sandwich came out hot and delivered promptly by the friendly staff. The burger was cooked beyond my preferred medium rare but that's about par for the course in these E. coli phobic times. The meat was not too far gone and I actually found it fairly tasty. Fries were my definitely my type-thick wedges of Idaho goodness fried crispy and not overseasoned. It was better than I expected and better than some of the other outlets I've tried in the Austin airport. The one ding against this location is the shameful lack of customer seating for it and its neighbors (the market, the pizza joint and Fly-Rite chicken). I wouldn't drive across town to eat here but if you're at the airport and are hungry, this is a decent choice. read more

Anthony was friendly and super efficient. Husband and I had the combo: burger, fries and drink. Since fountain drinks weren't working, we got bottled water. It's okay. Definitely not worth the price. The cashier disappeared for about 5 minutes for the need of extra ice. I'm not upset but someone else should be assisting for these kind of things.
