I have to start out by saying this has been my wife and I favorite restaurant for the longest time! We meet my parents here on occasion for breakfast and is normally our first choice for eating out in the morning !!! It's a small place tucked away off reservation road that stays very busy all year long!!! My wife and I have been bringing our family here since my daughter was born! Chef Alberto always makes her a special Mickey Mouse pancake or gives us fresh fruit on very busy times just enough to hold her over till our meal came. My wife and I always order eggs Benedict or turkey hash which are both AMAZING !!! If you are really hungry the big breakfast will satisfy all your breakfast cravings with a platter of eggs, bacon, potatoes, French toast and pancake!!! Service is always on point here even when they are busy!!! We recently used their catering service for a dinner and we were all blown away with the service and food we received!! To start things off I had called them the day before the event and they agreed to do it even with such a short notice!! I talked numbers and food menu choices to chef Alberto and he called back promptly to give me the quote, and now we wait. The next day I picked it up at the time we discussed over the phone and as I walked in the restaurant I saw chaffing dishes and nice Bowls even serving utensils laid out. I didn't know that all came with the catering experience here at Tico's so I already had set mines out but I was surprised by that! When I finally took off the foil to see the finished product I was BLOWN AWAY by the smells and sights of really AMAZING FOOD! Everyone loved the food even came back for seconds!!! Chef Alberto you truly are an AMAZING CHEF AND YOUR PRIDE IN YOUR STANDARDS SHOWS IN YOUR COOKING!! THANK YOU !!!! You pulled off a fabulous dinner for 30 in such little time!!! We had brunch here yesterday morning before heading home. It's a family owned place. Dad cooks, Mom greeted and sat us and the son took our order. We both were interested in the seafood omelet and the wild mushroom omelet, so we ordered them both as scrambles. They're topped w/ homemade hollandaise. We requested it on the side, but that request wasn't conveyed. It was no problem, though, because the amount used was not excessive. It was just right. I asked to substitute fruit for the potatoes, which was a reasonable $2 extra. We also ordered a small order of fruit to share. It was fresh and sweet, a mix of pineapple, watermelon, strawberries, blueberries and honeydew. I ordered tea to drink. Our food came out reasonably quickly. My wild mushroom omelet/scramble came w/ potatoes rather than fruit but that oversight was quickly corrected. I ate half of of it and then we switched plates. While the mushroom was delicious, the seafood was amazing, w/ a huge amount of large shrimp and crab. We were both commenting on it as we drove north. The food was very tasty and the prices were reasonable. The restaurant is housed in a strip mall next to an Asian market. It's clean and well maintained and family friendly. I have been to Tico's many times and the only reason I give it a 4 out of 5 is sometimes the service is a bit slow and they have forgot my apple fritters once. That being said. The food is amazing! Try the apple fritters. They are homemade and delicious. I don't like eggs so I normally will order a whole bunch of side items for breakfast like apple fritters, breakfast potatoes, bacon, and fruit. If you like fruit you'll love it here. They serve all kinds and it always looks so pretty. On to lunch... The burgers are amazing! They are HUGE! So juicy and tender piled high with mushrooms and bacon and cooked to order. Came here the first morning, it's in the same shoppette area as the Korean place. The Dungeness crab cake Benedict was great, the only dinerish thing was the side of ketchup that came with the potatoes which were excellent but I don't "do" benedict and Ketchup. The place has about 8 tables, we were the first there between 8 and 830 but it filled up within 15 minutes. My mate had the apple fritters that came with sausage; he said they were fresh apples and very good. The OJ is fresh but tasted less citrusy than the fresh OJ I had in SF a day before...must be a California orange thing. This is a neat clean little place with parking and it opens earlier than we arrived and I'd say come a bit early as it's a two man operation. All in all though the wait was reasonable. read more

Don't let the front of this place fool ya. Because then you'd really be missing out on a gem in Marina. I have spotted this place a few times when going to the Asian market next door but it never struck out to me. However, one day I was hankering for some good ol' breakfast and *presto* Tico's came up. Well, if Yelp says it good, it must be so! The inside is a bit small but it wasn't overly busy. The menu had a decent amount of choices. I opted for the 1/2 order of pancakes (because the description boasted that it BE the fluffiest!) and the Tico's Breakfast Special (not sure of it's actual name). The breakfast platter consisted of toast, potatoes, 2 eggs and bacon. OH MY, they weren't kidding when they said fluffy. It was delicious. Light. Fluffy. And crispy edges. I'm crying thinking about how delicious this is and how the world has not experience this goodness~! The special was pretty good too. The potatoes well seasoned. The bacon crisp. Just the way I like it. The service was good. Our server was friendly and always had a smile on her face. Yes, I'll go here again. To try all the other wonderful dishes that Tico has to offer. PS. I've been to quite a few breakfast places in the Monterey area, but Tico's is by far the best. My favorite dishes are the crab cakes egg Benedict, fresh mango pancakes, and marinated grilled lamb with eggs. Their breakfast potatoes are seasoned perfection and the breakfast and lunch specials change daily. This place never disappoints. There can be a wait especially during Saturday and Sunday mornings, but it's definitely worth it. Tucked away in a quiet shopping center next to an Asian market and Korean restaurant, this is the breakfast of breakfast places in Marina. Friendly, courteous staff. Clean and quaint. Very small place. Gives you a home feel. When we got there we a bit skeptical, since the server (young man) didn't even greet us or asked what we wanted to drink. He took a longer to refill our drinks, until the other server noticed. When he took our order, we were really thinking about the food. Would it disappoint? Would it be good? I recently came back to town and oh so happy to get back to Tico's. Tico's is quiet, comfortable and very reasonably priced for both breakfast and lunch. Their ingredients are always fresh and the servings are generous. The menu is varied so you could eat there several times each week and not get bored. If you are not watching your weight try the Hollandaise, rich and creamy. The people are consistently friendly, upbeat and attentive. There are several delicious low calorie choices that are both tasty and satisfying. There is plenty of parking. It may be a little hard to find - my only complaint is that they are not open for dinner! read more

I just don't get reviews in the Monterey area, and certainly don't get the food. Each time i visit my family here from Vegas i look for something different to eat in hopes ill find a gem. I saw Tico's with solid reviews in Marina where my family resides and grabbed food to go for my grandparents and I. Simple food... 2 cheeseburgers and a club sandwich. The burgers were in the top 3 driest hamburgers i have had my entire life, and the patty was small. The club sandwich was just a basic minimal meat club. The fries were crispy but again just nothing to write home about like all the other reviews. Ar $10 each item... im gonna stop going to small business and taking my money to the chain restaurants which is sad just to say. I will not return. read more

I've been here a couple times for brunch with my boyfriend, and we've absolutely loved everything here! The decor is cute and has that "I'm in my grandma's kitchen" vibe. The food is reasonably priced, considering the quality of the food and how big the portions are. I got the croque monsieur and it was sooo good! It was very flavorful without being too salty at all. It also came with fruit on the side, and it was so fresh and sweet. I remember I was raving to my boyfriend about how good the fruit was, and he ended up eating half of it -__- My boyfriend got the crab cake eggs benedict and he really enjoyed it as well. He's a pretty picky eater, and eggs benedict is his favorite brunch food, and brunch is his favorite meal... you can imagine how picky he is with eggs benedict. However, he actually loved it here! His meal came with potatoes, and was extremely filling. I had to take one star off though, because the service is pretty slow. They're quick to take your order and bring out drinks, but I swear we waited like 20-25 minutes last time, when we were the only customers there at the time. After two long time, we were able to come back to Ticos restaurant in Marina California. We love the family that run this restaurant and the quality of their food is top-notch. It's located it's a tiny little restaurant in a shopping center strip mall. You have to look hard to find it but finding it is definitely worth it. The quality of the food and the preparation is top notch and delicious I had the Norwegian smoked salmon eggs Benedict, a first for me. At first I was skeptical since I've always had a traditional eggs Benedict all my life but this was a treat worth trying. My wife has a seafood omelette and she said it was really very good. We love Chico's so much, then we came back to Knight's later for their Friday night prime rib dinner. The prime rib was so tender you could cut it with a fork and it was cooked to order. On our 5-year-wedding anniversary, while anxiously anticipating our 18,000 foot free-fall jump out of an airplane, our GPS led us to the closest breakfast offering: Tico's. Granted, we were a little skeptical at first. It was buried in the back of a shopping center (if we didn't have a GPS, I doubt we would have found it). It was very, very small. And on first entry, it smelled a tad musty. But - fresh flowers adorned the tables, the dry-erase boards with daily offerings beckoned with enticing, exotic dishes (for a strip center anyway), and we didn't have anywhere else to go, so why not? I'm very glad we stayed. Hands-down, the breakfast at Tico's was incredible. I had Eggs Benedict (their hollandaise sauce is PERFECTION, my friends); my husband had fried eggs and French Toast. Both dishes were so delightful that we found ourselves guessing exact ingredients to attempt recreation at home. The home-fries (that seem to be served with every breakfast dish) are well worth the space on the plate; grab a bottle of ketchup (or whatever you fancy) and go to town. The service was incredibly good - the waiter extremely attentive and welcoming, the coffee fresh and the atmosphere simple, nice and light. Unfortunately, we didn't get to skydive that day - too much fog. But we plan on returning in the spring, when the weather is more friendly and we can truly experience why it is worth it to risk life and limb jumping out of an airplane at 18,000 feet :) and when we land, we'll be heading to Tico's to celebrate. read more

When the power was out in all of Monterey, they had a line out the door. The waiters handled everything amazingly and were quick and courteous. They said they had never been as busy as they were then, but they were still on top of everything. We were half expecting the food to be just alright because of the circumstances, but it was outstanding! The apple fritters are awesome and the chicken hash special was the best hash I have ever had. Hmm. Tico's is perfectly adequate. A group of seven and I went here and the place was nearly deserted. I guess that was a good thing since they had plenty of room for our group. Even though it was 2pm, everyone got breakfast. I originally ordered coffee and as she was walking away I decided to just drink coffee. The waitress didn't hear me, and when she walked by again, I repeated my request to change to water, and she nodded vigorously. When the drinks came, however, out came -two- coffees... I sent back one and drank the other anyways. I decided with a simple breakfast; poached eggs, potatoes, and bacon with sourdough. The bacon was over done and old, the sourdough bread tiny, but the meal as a whole it was fine, just not spectacular. So, for a Sunday when nothing else is open in Marina, this is fine to go to, but I'd probably try somewhere else if I had the chance. read more

Two days of dining in a row at Tico's for breakfast and I'm really pleased we stumbled on it. With no advertising to speak of they were packed on both Sat and Sun mornings. Sat: Crab Cake Eggs Benedict. First take away that this is quite possibly the best EB I've ever had. Adding some "Santa Barbara Pepper Sauce" and I'm over the edge. Seemingly hand formed crab cakes on your traditional English muffin with a perfectly poached egg topped with homemade hollandaise sauce. Yes, you heard right - they have homemade H-sauce available every day they're open (which is Tues-Sun, 7AM-3PM). Sun: Sausage omelette. I took their sun-dried tomato, mushroom, provolone and Italian sausage omelette and substituted the store bought Italian sausage with their homemade breakfast sausage patties. A knock-out omelette with a side of homefries and toast. Omelette has a dollop of hollandaise sauce on it; if not a fan let them know to hold back. Friendly and genuine folks. Great food. Tico's was the perfect place for a Mother's Day breakfast. I've been to Tico's on a number of occasions and they never fail to satisfy. Today, I ordered an omelette with bacon, cheddar, and red onion with a side of their housemade sausage. I also ordered the sauteed apple and pecan pancakes which were light and fluffy, yet had a bold taste. I opted to take the breakfast home as there were plenty of customers sitting both inside and outside, which isn't just the expectation because it was Mother's Day. Tico's is ALWAYS packed like this, which tells you a lot about the quality of their product. Their menu is extensive and for as many times as I've been here, I still have yet to try everything on their menu. Came in on 2/26/13 for breakfast around 8am. The place is really small, but decorated nicely and clean. I ordered the French toast and my girlfriend ordered the Denver omelet. The omelet was enough for two to share. The omelet was good and the potatoes were delicious. The half order of French toast was okay. Could have used a little more flavor. I didn't use the syrup. The fruit salad that came with dish was amazing. Both plates were presented beautifully. Service was great. Didnt wait a long time for drinks or the food. Definitely give this a try. read more

My family and I found this cute little place when we were visiting Marina for a day. I wanted brunch food and yelp had high reviews so we went here. It's a small restaurant and the service was great. The people were all so nice and polite. They were also quick in taking our orders as well as getting our food out. I ordered the crab cake benedict and it was delicious! It was a bit pricier than at other places that I've been to but oh well, the food was good! I burnt my tongue because I was so excited to dig in and it was worth it. The crab cake was so soft and the poached eggs were just right. I also loved the house potatoes because the seasoning was so different from other places that I've tried. It had a lot more flavor than most house potatoes that I have ordered. My mom's smoked salmon with bagel was also pretty appetizing.
