I've genuinely never had a worse experience at a bar than this cesspool. First off, this place can't even afford a card reader at the door and only lets you pay cash. If you don't have cash you can use their ATM, which obviously charges you a huge fee. The creepy security must have some serious pent up frustrations at home, maybe an unfaithful wife or kids who hate him, I can only assume, because as soon as we walked in he made it his personal mission to make us feel uncomfortable as soon as possible. Also, he stared at my butt. Once we got past the gate troll, we went to the bar. The bartender was extremely rude and walked away from us mid order. When we finally got our drinks, they were watery and didn't taste right. The one selling point of the bar, the live music, was not good at all. The sound mixing couldn't have been worse if it was set up by a monkey with a learning disability. Alright we came here because I saw this event on eventbrite for a tiki bar comedy show. Welp the comedians honestly were not that funny and the venue sucked as well. I hate that there's so many dive bars that claim they are "tiki bars". There were maybe 3-4 tiki decorations. I'm just giving it two stars cause the staff was nice. Know your star sign on your ID, the bouncer was a real jerk to my colleagues and denied them access 3 stars because a large group of alumni came to support the undergraduates in North Morlan Band. Not your usual Sports Bar/Dive Bar/Watering Hole TB seems to struggle from a true identity, but perhaps that's what they are going for. I'm not sure and honestly don't care because every time I've been to listen to a friend's band play I've been quite pleased. Pours tend to be strong, service is nice, There is lots of room both inside and out on their back patio, and they have a pretty good size stage for local bands to rock out to. They have multiple flat screens playing various sports. It was a charity fund raiser starring Sour Purge (Power Serge) that brought me here most recently. While these guys normally dress and play in the style of 80s Hair Bands on this evening they decided to flip the script and dress and play in the style of 90s pop which proved to be a lot of fun raising money for a great cause. They had a pretty diverse crowd that ranged in age which was nice to see. Everyone attending seemed to be in good spirits (pun intended!) I guess my only gripe would be their lack of copious dedicated and close parking. I'm aware that Newton parking is plentiful, but for those that are disabled that is really far! read more

My band played here on August 14, 2013 and had an OK time here.The sound man was uptight when he helped us mike up our instruments, he ket saying don't play too loud you'll upset the customers. I've played a few shows with a few bands for a few years and this was the first time a sound man told us to play quite. Was here this past weekend to see The English Beat, great show, great venue - late start at 9.30 since was advertised as a 7.30 start. BUT they really need to work on getting new door staff, would have given 5 stars if it was not for them. The older white guy has the worse attitude ever. Came here with a buddy to watch a few lives bands take the stage and sing their hearts out. Just rating this place on the entertainment I enjoyed versus the price I paid to enjoy it (five bands, live on stage for only $5 cover charge), this place is AWESOME! We started off the night having a few beers at the bar. While we sat and watched one of the many TVs installed above the bar, we made small talk with one of the locals; she was super friendly, and stated a few times how much she loved her local bar (always nice to hear when the locals love their spots). The beers were cold and the bartenders were all working their butts off to help as many as they possibly could (especially hard once the place crowded with thirsty concert goers). At one point, the bartender gave my buddy the wrong beer. When we told him, he just replied, "Sorry about that, lemme pour you what you wanted." He provided the correctly poured beer with another, "Sorry 'bout that". That's great customer service. I got a hint from a music insider that one of the members of the band Green Day was going to be playing in another band the night I visited. Guess what? That information was 100% accurate! I got to see him in this other band, super duper up close and personal. So I guess you can say you've got a good chance of meeting a celebrity or two here, on occasion, if you check this place out on band nights. Between bands, or if you tire of the mosh pits and shoving, you can take a break and play on one of the two pool tables by the entrance. A game of pool only sets you back seventy-five cents here....how cool is that? Most places it's a dollar, minimum. This means, after three games, you can play still play a fourth, all for $3.00. That's $1.00 off the normal price! Lol. One of the only negatives about this place is there is very little parking. So come early if you plan on watching bands all night, or be prepared to walk a bit. read more

There are various performances from reggae, punk rock, and country. Parking: One of the benefits of this location is there is plenty of parking. No sweat. Inside: The bar and stage area, including the pit, is very large and a nice spot to see a show and have a drink at the same time. You can literally sit at the bar and watch the performance. Additionally, the outside patio is also large and nice to get a break and breath air. For Bands: There is plenty of space to store your equipment. The stage is larger than most, and there is plenty of room for the lead singer to get around, and for amps to be spaced out. The sound quality is very good as well. read more

I was tempted to give this place 2 stars only, mostly because some of the employees were rude as hell (namely the guy working the door and the sound guy) and biker bars aren't really my gig. My first experience here was absolutely horrendous and I'm not even 21. My band was asked to play here and soon as I showed up I was looked up and down by security and with my guitar in hand I was approached with attitude and was told "even though you are playing you aren't allowed in or in the back until your set so you have to stand outside and wait" when we were told to get there 3 hours early and unload our gear. He also made a remark saying "if you want to buy food you have to eat it in the parking lot". So you can take my money but have to eat in the parking lot like a stray dog? I've played countless 21+ plug gigs where they have always treated me with respect and let me sit inside and watch the bands. Not mentioning these 21+ venues were WAY nicer and more well know than the Tiki Bar. I saw another yelp review that said they felt like he made it his personal mission to make you uncomfortable and to be rude and I could not agree more. My band has never had to leave a venue and not play due to utter disrespect. I'm not sure if it was because we are an all girl band and he is a misogynist or if he is just an asshole. The Tiki Bar is definitely a divey joint. When you walk in, you expect leis, tropical themed decor and maybe overly sugar drinks being served with umbrellas. That's not the case. The closest thing they have to tiki are a couple of paintings on the wall. Other than that, it's just a bar with a name that doesn't fit its look. Pros: - They have an eclectic group of bands that come through ranging from punk to bands that were popular in the late 90's. If anyone was curious, Crazytown apparently still performs and they will be making a stop here... Cons: - $7 door charge to watch a local cover band. That's pretty steep considering the place is empty - especially on a Saturday night. I'd use that cash and head to another watering hole with no cover and use that money on a decent drink. - Bartenders are neither friendly or helpful. I had questions about a beer and the person had no idea what I was talking about. I kept pointing, she kept shrugging. I wanted to know what a particular bottle was (Anderson Valley Fall Hornin') and she opened it and placed it on front of me. $6.50. I didn't even know it was a pumpkin ale, so I lucked out. - The bar was pretty empty and it was HOT in there. We were just watching the band and not moving and there were beads of sweat forming on our foreheads. They open the doors, but it's not enough. It wasn't a super hot night, so I can only imagine when the place is full and it's a scorcher outside. This place would be miserable. - Parking is difficult. It's easier to look for spots in the street versus their small and cramped parking lot. Tiki Bar wouldn't be my first choice to come and hang with friends. I'd consider coming back for a show if it was a band I really wanted to see, but even that might be a stretch. read more

My first ever 1 star rating goes to this amazingly asinine and obnoxious embarrassment of a bar. So I came on a Sunday night to see the legendary world renowned Skatalites perform. All listings of the event showed a 5-7pm start time for bands, so I figured they would play around 8-9pm which is reasonable for a Sunday night. Upon getting to the bar, the bouncer said 10pm. Okay, later than I thought, but it would be definitely worth it. I wait around, and the opening bands actually started at 7pm. Now I normally don't judge a bar based on the performance of the other acts if they are good enough to book a band I came to see... but the most of the other bands they booked that night were simply terrible. While I can't rag on them too much, one particular "act" just made be cringe. One single white guy on stage, doing fake beatboxing using loops with a microphone. Off beat, and off key. This went on for more than thirty minutes. I thought it was a joke, but it kept continuing. I think it is just an embarrassment for a venue to have something of such low caliber, not to mention opening for a remarkable band that has been around for 40+ years... Not only that. This place is named "Tiki Bar," yet they do not serve tropical drinks of any kind, nor have much of a tropical decor inside. Blatantly false advertising, it would be like if a BBQ restaurant was only serving salad. However I guess, for what it's worth, they do have a large selection of beers on tap. Service was inattentive, rude, and pushy. Oh, and guess what time The Skatalites actually came on? MIDNIGHT. ON A SUNDAY. While I've been to midnight gigs on weekdays, they were advertised as such. This was scheduled to go on at 10pm. Or even 10:30pm the latest I was told. The worst part? They strictly cut them off at barely an hour. AND did not sound check until right before they played, were rude to the musicians, could not monitor them to save their lives (they kept pointing during show when they needed things turned up or down constantly). They did not have sufficient air flow of either air conditioning, fans, or doors opened. I don't really complain about parking even though their lot is small, because it's easy to find street parking a block away. Also, the clientele for this bar? Guys that wear "I'm an ass" on their shirt and bad MMA shirts. I will refuse to step place into this bar ever again. read more

*Not trying to bash a classic OC spot, but damn, does this place need to get it together... The Tiki Bar was around a loooong time ago, then shut it's doors. The location was also home to then "Rain," "The Rock," and now back to the Tiki Bar (again). Went to check out a friend's band play last night. I would give the place 1 star, but the sound guy works his ass off to get the sound right, and the stage is nice. Lacking enough stage monitors for drums and bass to hear the rest of the band though. From an aesthetic standpoint, the place is not my style. That's a nice way of saying I wouldn't be caught dead in this joint. The crowd, much like The Blue Cafe's crowd, seems like it's ever-changing (along with some local deadbeats) - basically the crowd that is there is usually there for a band that's playing, but will not return... just like me. Bar service was okay, it was one guy basically hustling by himself to serve the entire bar. I also had to pay $5.00 to get in on a weeknight - the place was DEAD and it was local and unknown bands playing. Beers on tap were $5 a pop, and usually I tip a couple bucks per beer, but only tipped $3 on 4 beers. You figure it out. Also, there was this obnoxious drunk idiot (see video) that almost mowed over a guy in a wheelchair and was annoying everyone in the bar. He should've been 86'd. Instead they kept him drinking there, ruining the night for patrons, only to find out that his card was bogus from the start and he couldn't even pay his tab. Good work. Thank God i'm first to review and hopefully save you the awkward pain that I experienced last night. So I know I shouldn't have expected much. First it was Club Rain, then the Tiki Bar and finally Club Roc. All of which were not amazing in the least. I guess it's my own fault for thinking that some sort of re-vamped version of the same iteration of a previous fail would be anything short of disappointment. I was disappointed to say the least. The Mrs. and I were quite bored on an uneventful Friday night and decided to check out the new Tiki bar which just recently opened last Wednesday. Let me quote you my text message to a friend at 12:48a: "Um. We're at the Tiki bar and it's like the most fucked up/acid trip high school party you could ever dream of." Enough said.
