3.5 stars for the Tiki Bar. Some friends and I met up to watch a friend's band play at the Tiki Bar on a Friday night. The place wasn't too crowded but there was a cover and it was still early. The drinks are about $7 a piece and the bartender is generous with his pour. The clientele is a mix of young and old. There are pool tables and plenty of booth seating in the back. They had the basketball games playing on the flat screens but as the bands took stage, the place became loud with music. It's nice that they set up 2 large pitchers of self-serve ice water on the counter with some plastic cups for those that want to hydrate and not bother the bartenders. Pretty cool little place. There is barely any parking in the lot, but we found some down the street in a residential neighborhood. read more

Never been to this place before. based on the name I expected a Tiki experience. To me "Tiki" means fun and festive. This place sucked! It was neither festive nor fun. I've tried it a couple of times and today was the perfect example of why I won't be back. This review is only for a weekday lunchtime experience, not the bands or other events... Lousy service, overpriced pitcher, bad attitude behind the bar. 45 minutes for my burger to cook? AND not even done in time for me to get back to work?!?! Tiki Bar, you are not a Tiki Bar. Location: industrial zone of Costa Mesa. Parking is non-existent: the lot next door holds maybe 15-20 cars and if you try and double park, they'll tow you. If you park in the bands loading zone, they will tow you. If you park in the parking lot next door, they will tow you. The only "safe" spots to park are down the street in a residential area or across the street from Tom's Place (restaurant). Ambiance: dive bar, but a confused one at that. Do they serve food? I never figured that out. Lots of live acts come through here and I came here for the Lizzy Borden show in January. I purchased my tickets online at Ticketmaster. The sound was OK, I don't recall hearing any issues during the time that I stayed inside. It was very crowded and there was limited seating due to a bachelorette party that had "reserved" a huge table with 15+ chairs during the show. There were only seats around the bar, which got taken up pretty quickly. The "patio" is actually just a cordoned off part of the parking lot where bands can load in. There were a couple of lawn chairs out there, but not much else. Crowd: a very diverse crowd of young and old, but all were there to rock. I saw a lot of VERY VERY drunk people. I, thankfully, was too hung over to be drunk. I'd be careful because I saw a couple of creepy looking drunk dudes skeezing up all the pretty ladies. Bar: I couldn't get a drink to save my life. I politely waited at the bar, never was acknowledged. I finally had to shout "HEY! can I order a drink!" at one of the bartenders as he sat at the cash register, doing nothing. The pour was strong and worth the $5-7. Service is not up to par, there was no hustle from any of the 3 bartenders. Suggestions: -come early, park close -since you're there early, grab a seat at the bar and don't move for the rest of the night -order your drinks as a double in a tall glass to reduce time waiting for the barkeep -eat a taco in the parking lot. Let me start off by saying - THIS IS NOT A TIKI BAR. I was here as part of the band playing.. The owner, we'll call him "K", is one of the rudest people I have met at a music venue. He was rude, from downright rude comments, to straight up ignoring me. He really ruined the night. There is nearly NO tiki-ness to this bar. With the exception of one palm-tree-trunk tiki by the front door, and a couple carved poles, and a couple items that looks as if they were purchased at a discount store. The bar seems decent, a couple cute bartenders (who seem to fear the owner).. though not a tiki mug or drink in sight. The closest thing I saw was screenprinted glasses from Seven Tiki Rum. They supposedly serve food, but conveniently not on a saturday night. Though I saw the kitchen and I'm not sure I'd want to eat anything from it. The sound guy was cool, very nice, and knew what he was doing. He was the ONLY saving grace to this place. There is nearly no parking lot, absolutely silly for a place that holds live shows. For live shows, wait till they play another venue. If it's tiki you are looking for, you won't find it here. I sure won't bother again. read more

I work walking distance from this bar and was hoping it would be bad ass--instead its just bad. There is a tiki in the building next door, the guy makes tiki art. Unfortunatly, this place was a wopping disapointmnet, the only thing tiki is in the name. If your goiing to be Tikibar then be tikitastic. The walls are white and black only the columns are tikied. They also had a cover for a shitty band. The bar reminded of a trucksrop bathroom that they hung a 70s painting in. To the owners do some research on tiki stuff. Go overboard on the kitch! Conceptually thus should be a slam dunk, but sadly it is not. read more

Heard of this place through friends. Walked up around 9:30 pm on a Saturday and they were charging $10 a head because according to the bouncer "they had 4 bands for the night." We chuckled and walked away because I'd rather pay $10 to get into Del Taco. As we were walking away he shouted "3 for $10." Don't think I need to say much more. Go someplace else. read more

Like most the reviewers have already said Tiki bar has a lot of potential. The stage is great size, nice sound system and the house sound man knows what's up. It's spacious nice layout and the taco lady on the patio kills it. That being said more parking would be nice and why the hell do they charge a cover? I have so many friends who would frequent the place if it weren't for the steep door charges. They should make it free like Slidebar and try a little thing called paying the bands. read more

Went to see a friend's band play at 6:30pm on Friday night. The place was empty except one guy ogling at the band setting up. I ordered a coke because I was driving. $5 later, I got a cup of ice and a dribble of soda. Security came around five minutes later asking for a $5 cover. (No where is a cover charge posted in the bar.) Paid it, no problem. Went to get a refill of my coke, and the bartender wanted $3.50! A non alcoholic soda refill that's 90% ice- that's bull!! The band was setting up and doing a sound check when we arrived at 6:30, at 7:30 after 1 song, the stage is dark and band is out back smoking! This sucks!!! read more

Arrived here at about 7:30PM. A pretty open space: two pool tables to the right of the door, internet juke box and lots of TVs around a U shaped bar. There are a few tables but the chairs are sorta "Ikea" (read uncomfortable and sort of "flimsy"). Lots of new TVs, the whole place has been redone. It still smells like paint and the dance floor is unfinished. Although the bathrooms are brand new and very clean, it still smells like a sewer line. Parking lot was small. Beer on tap is cold, $4.00 for a Bud Light. Guinness was $5? $6? I wasn't paying by that point. ;) They do serve liquor and wine. I didn't get a chance to order food. The stage is big and the bands were good. The fiddle player in Eddie Booze's band was cute. ;) They started charging cover ($5.00) at 8:00PM which was kind of a bust....good thing I got there "on time". This place is kind of a dive like poop kind of smells bad. Not saying this place is bad... actually quite the contrary, its a decent dive bar with decent prices on drinks. This is actually my second time here for a cancer benefit/fundraiser which is actually quite fun. One thing that is a slight drag is the if you are looking for munchies while at the bar, you have to order via a take-out service which the bar happily allows to be delivered to the join. Good for the bar because they can focus on being a bar and good for the customer so they at least can get some food. Its just that is can be slightly inconvenient. Overall 3 stars! read more

10/31/11 A bunch of friends and myself went to the Tiki bar this past Friday (10/28) to see some bands and have some drinks. We were playing pool and my friend looks down, takes his pool cue and holds down a FULL GROWN RAT from moving across the floor. The rat was not running along the wall, it was in in the middle walking around like it owned the place. We told the bartender who treated us like we killed the rat and did something horribly wrong! The bartender, nor any of the management, came over and speak to us and thank us for not yelling "Rat" in the middle of their crowded bar. The bartender picked up the rat with a box that she swept into with a cardboard sleeve and we never heard back from her. There was no "thank you" or "here's a round for your trouble"; nothing. Along with serving liquor, THIS BAR ALSO SERVES FOOD!!! I recommend that YOU DO NOT EAT HERE!!! Maybe not go all together because you never know when a rodent is going to walk over your shoe and up your leg! read more

Just came here tonight for a fun comedy night. The comedians were pretty funny and they're this bar's only redemption factor. It's pretty run down and way overpriced. We ordered the tacos after reading some reviews. $6 for two small, slightly below average tasting tacos and no sides that didn't fill you up at all. Now that I think of it, I'm pretty sure the menu said guacamole and there was no guac... The tacos also took almost 1 hr to make, and there was only one other group ordering food before us. Not to mention, when we asked about our food, the guy just said he couldn't tell us because the chef was in the kitchen and he was at the bar (well no duh...) We also ordered drinks. Came here last night for the first time since the remodel. Parking can be a problem, so get there early. I was immediately turned off because of the $5 cover charge starting at 8PM...for a dive bar. I'm not a fan of paying covers, especially not for a ghost town. Bitched a litte and a friend got me in with no cover. Save. Inside the bar is really nice (except for the dancefloor/stage, yet to be remodeled). You can still smell the new paint job and all the furniture is brand new. The bar is nice too, and right in the middle of the place, so seating wasn't a problem. Around 11 it started to fill up with people, so I'm guessing this place just has a later crowd. It has plenty of big screen TVs, two pool tables, and a big dancefloor. $4 for a budlight on draft, $6 for a big glass of chardonnay, so pretty average prices for Huntington/Costa Mesa/Newport area. I would definitely come back (before the cover starts!) and I'm interested to see where this place goes. read more

In an effort to determine whether there would be a cover when I went with a group of friends to see a band, I called a couple days before to ask. The person answering the phone cursing and acting ridiculous explained she had no idea what I was talking about and to call back later. I called back a couple hours after, a second person answered and acted very irritated by the question, and hung up on me mid-followup question. I showed up, payed the door fee, started a tab and got a couple drinks (super weak). When I closed out, I was charged for two extra drinks. The bartender said she remembered me ordering all four drinks and my card would be charged for them. To summarize... rude staff, weak drinks, charged for extra drinks when I opened a tab. Popped in at the tail end of a very nice date with the boy. We were craving some house music and thankfully, the dj delivered here. There was zero cover, zero wait. The bartenders were extremely attentive and very nice and the crowd seemed quite lively. This place is pretty big for a divey type of collegy bar. They had beer pong out back, a pool table, a lobster claw machine (honestly pretty cool bc someone won a lobster while we were in there) and a small dance floor. In talking with the dj as they were shutting down, he also alerted us to the fact that they offered free djing classes to teach people the basics up to advanced skills in djing. Pretty cool. I'll have to make it a point to come back and learn how to scratch a record or two. ;) read more

They sponsor my Dodgeball League. So they rock for that alone. They have drink specials with my Dodgeball League and work with Agave Underground Tequila. They have 2 pool tables, an outside area for beer pong, a U-shaped bar with TV screens, a stage for musical acts, some good beer like Stone and Guiness and I believe Sierra Nevada, and a LOBSTER TANK! Yup, that's right, while you can go to a late-night Denny's or Norm's and use the Claw to grab a stuffed animal, at the Tiki Bar you grab and poke at Live Lobsters. Yes, inhumane I admit. But if you catch one, you can take it home and cook it. Mine came out great. There food's pretty average, but when you have a few beers in you, it totally hits the spot. I'd like them to expand out on their beer to earn another star. Overall, a cool bar where you don't expect one to be. And its not to far from the Detroit Bar and Trader Joe's! read more

I went in sort of knowing what to expect, thanks to the reviews on Yelp. This is the epitome of a dive bar, but in no way shape or form is it tiki themed. It was the overly intoxicated patrons that turned me off the most. As a woman, I would never feel safe coming here without my man. To the bartender who continued to serve alcohol to the man who was completely trashed, stumbled up to the bar and knocked things over -- that's just reckless. The reason I'm giving this bar 2 stars instead of one is because the sound system is pretty darn good. Came here on an off night to watch a friend's band play, walked in around 8pm and the place was pretty empty, but understandably why. I didn't check out the bar, so I couldn't tell you the prices, but it was a really nice bar and stage area. There's a smokers area in the back that is pretty handy so you could choose whether to go to either the front or back of the place to get away from the loud noise. I would definitely come back when not plagued by a St. Patty's Day hangover. It seems like a nice place to hang out, tucked away from the busy main boulevard. read more

I give this place one star for three reasons: 1) Its a bar and they serve beer 2) They have a couple of flat screens and pool tables 3) The bartender that is usually there is way hot and she is very friendly. But I can't give this dive any more stars because its clearly NOT a "Tiki" bar! A local beer joint yes but a tiki bar no. Its obvious so I wont go into it.
