The first thing I want to note is that the yelp getting in line option is not really reliable. We used it and got to the restaurant around 20 min after they opened and still had to wait 40 min. So honestly, I just recommend getting there a little before they open if you want to be seated right away. We ordered: Shrimp and Chive Dumplings - this dish was really good and a lot more tender than I thought it would be. I thought it would be really dense and dry but it was surprisingly tender! Har Gow - A classic! It was your typical har gow though, not bad but also not special Turnip Cake - This dish in general is my all time dim sum fave, and Tim Ho Wan did not disappoint. It wasn't too dry or mushed together, it literally fell apart in my mouth and you can eat full pieces of the turnips. Cucumber Salad - This dish wasn't bad, but it tasted a little different from other cucumber salads I've had. So not really my preference. Chinese Broccoli - This dish was also really good and garlicky. But in terms of vegetable options, you don't really have any other choice anyways. Bbq buns - This dish was definitely the star of the show. The dough was really soft, the hard shell on top was a perfect contrast and so fun to eat, and the flavors of the bun itself were YUM. If I craved any of the other dishes, I would be able to get away with finding some other place. But the buns are really unique. Lava Custard Sesame Ball - I wish there was more of the lava custard inside, but other than that, no complaints! The sesame flavor is so strong and so good. Went on Mother's Day and I really want to say the 2 hour wait was worth it, but it really wasn't. The table needs to have utensils and napkins on the table readily if the servers are going to be way too busy to bring them out for customers. Service was horrible; the waitress was inattentive, forgetful, and had an attitude when we flagged her down and asked for the tea that she had forgotten three times. The cherry on top of it all was when she nearly tossed the bill on the table without saying anything. But now let's talk about the food. Wonton soup could've been better if the soup came out when it was still hot. By the time it got to us, it's like it has been sitting out for 10 minutes already. Har gow and siu mai were ok. Not bad but certainly not the greatest either. Steamed rice roll with shrimp and chinese chives was amazing. Probably the best I've ever had. Parents really enjoyed the steamed dumplings with shrimp and chives. Though personally I couldn't taste or see the shrimps, it was mainly all chives. Deep fried dumplings and buns were pretty good. Majority of their buns-- really can't recall which one specifically, because we ordered pretty much all of their buns to try, leans towards the sweeter side. Would've been better if it was more savory instead. The braised chicken feet with abalone sauce and peanut we ordered never came out. Another point lost for service lol. Dessert wise, lava custard sesame ball was tasty. I thought it was unique. Steamed egg cake was also good. Though I think the absolute highlight is the Tim Ho Wan Mango Slush. I've had my eyes and ears open on when it will finally open. When it finally did I had to come to try. I've had my first Tim Ho Wan experience in Hong Kong, and my second in Orange County, so I've had some expectations on how the food should be. Forgetting to put my name on the wait list, my party waited for about an hour. Luckily the location is walkable to the Japanese book store, and other shops that it was easy to kill some time. Once we were seated, we were presented with the menu, and the typical clipboard with a pencil to make our selections. When we went, about 30% of the menu was still unavailable, so that was a little disappointing. The baked bbq pork buns were amazing, just as the original HK one is. The rest of the dim sum was good! Drove all the way out from Austin just to eat here for my wife's birthday cause dim sum basically is non existent in the capital, so why not go to the self proclaimed specialists? It's not that busy midweek (weekends are super crazy though), so we were seated immediately and once you pick your food, it comes out pretty quick. No pushcarts here but having a picture menu definitely helps for the uninitiated. They're best known for the bbq pork buns, so make sure you get those. These were fantastic, with a great crust, juicy sliced pork and lots of it. Heaven in a bite. The lotus rice packet is also very good and likewise packed to the brim with meat. The lava custard sesame balls are another specialty that are really good - just be careful to not burn yourself. All that said, the other dim sum items we had were very ok. Glutinous pork rice dumpling, shrimp rice roll, siu mai, stuffed bean curd were all ok. Not bad and anything can be fixed with chili oil but definitely had better for cheaper and less expectations. I was craving dim sum and ended up getting it delivered. I was surprised the items I had was great when it arrived. For pork shumai it had a fresh vegetable and pork taste which was pleasant. What really sold me was the sticky rice that's inside the leaf, it was honestly so warm and soooo comforting to have. That one really caught me off guard. The fried shrimp ball with the spikes had that really classic taste. I wish it was slightly bigger but I still enjoyed it with the dipping sauces. Something I wanted to mention in my review is that I originally called in for togo (before switching it to delivered when I realized I wasn't feeling good to drive) and when I called in, the workers and manager was honestly sooo nice and helpful. Katy is the land of Tims. First, we saw Tim Hortons open a few months back. Now, in the final days of 2022, the Tim Ho Wan first announced in May 2019 has at last opened its doors! To set the stage: I've been to Tim Ho Wan in Taiwan, in Hong Kong, in Hell's Kitchen NYC, and now, in Katy. Go figure, the Tim Ho Wan in Taiwan won my heart, but I really enjoyed Hong Kong too. I was really disappointed by the New York experience, so I went into Katy with realistic expectations. That said, it definitely exceeded my New York experience. Our experience was pretty positive and it definitely helped that there was no wait. We went around 6:30 p.m. on a Sunday. Service was decent as well, some plates did take some time to show up but everything was fresh, and refills on soft drinks came constantly. As for the food: Baked BBQ Pork Buns - The star attraction at Tim Ho Wan. These were not as sweet as the buns I've had at other locations, but instead had a great balance of sweet and savory. Steamed Shrimp Dumplings - Great flavor as well, my partner is very hesitant on seafood but was a huge fan of these. Wontons in Hot and Spicy Sauce - A standout! Great flavor. Pan Fried Noodles - These were a little disappointing, no standout flavors, not much more exciting than me frying up some ramen and soy sauce at home. I've literally been waiting to try Tim Ho Wan out ever since I knew that they were coming to the Houston area, and I was a bit disappointed. Overall, it was a bit underwhelming. For a restaurant this famous, it could've been a little better and more consistent. I stopped by on a busy Sunday dinner. We were told about 20 mins wait for a table of 2, but we were quickly seated after only about 10 mins, which was great. The interior of the restaurant looked nice but very cramped since all the tables were so packed in and close together. After we got seated, the service was okay. It wasn't the best, but it wasn't that bad. The overall menu seemed lacking and extremely small. There were not a lot of options and varieties at all compared to their menu online. We had expected a bigger menu, but it was very limited. Moving onto the foods. We ordered the braised beef brisket noodle soup, wonton noodle soup, siu mai, har gow, and shrimp & chive dumplings. For the high prices, we had expected the portions to be bigger, but what we got were extremely tiny, and we left a bit unsatisfied. In terms of taste, the foods were great. Everything tasted fresh and well seasoned. The best dish was probably the beef brisket noodle soup, but they really need to do better quality control (the table next to mine also ordered the same thing, they had so much more noodles when mine barely had any). The wonton noodle soup tasted really good as well. I especially loved the shrimp and chive dumplings, and the har gow and siu mai were also great. Overall, if it wasn't for the tiny menu, tiny portions for the high prices, and mediocre service, I would've given this place a better rating. I did not come here for "affordable" dim sum, but it was really not worth the prices for what I got. For a Michelin star rated dim sum restaurant, I had expected it to be much better. If you live around the Bellaire area, don't bother driving up to Katy for Tim Ho Wan. There are much better options around Bellaire instead. If you're around Katy, there's literally better and more affordable dim sum options in that same Katy Asian Town area too. read more

I've tried this restaurant in Hawaii and New York. I have been waiting for this Katy location to open!!! However, I was a bit underwhelmed whenever I ate here at this location. Table service was okay. Food is okay. This location doesn't live up to the hype that I experienced at the other locations. Avoid coming here for dinner on the weekends especially since the wait time is insane. You can place your name on the list and they text you whenever your table is ready. The waiting area is very small and it's probably a fire hazard with people attempting to exit out of 1 door (the other door is locked) while others are standing in the waiting area. I recommend visiting this restaurant during lunchtime on a weekday. It will be less crowded and maybe the table service will be better. The food was okay. Nothing too special... except for the pork barbecue buns. Super delicious and it's still my favorite dish served at this restaurant. Very high quality, small, expensive dim sum. Is this worthy of Michelin? Perhaps. As someone who is Cantonese and has grown up with dim sum being considered a food group, I was impressed. I went during a weekday after just one week of its opening date, and there was no line at all! I definitely recommend going on weekdays if possible to avoid the line, since it is fairly new. Some places have Chinese broccoli that are HUGE and hard to bite into, and these were cut into biteable sizes with a nice extra touch of fried garlic, which I enjoyed. The baked bbq buns had a nice crispy top, but was just a tad bit bland for my liking. Another dim sum place I like is New Palace, and I do prefer their baked bbq buns more. The steamed dumplings with shrimp and chives were also good and fresh. They just fell apart really easy, so it was hard grabbing them. After we sat our little kids down, she turned around and snapped, "For future reference, you need to wait to be seated -- I didn't even get your menus yet!" Seriously? There is a wait list through the yelp app. Ordered the pork dumplings, spare ribs in black bean sauce, Taiwanese beef noodle soup with turnips, rice noodle with shrimp, Lava cream sesame balls, bbq pork buns, fried turnip cake, and sticky rice in lotus leaf. I've been dying to try this place, but I have to say I was a bit disappointed. The place is clean, and staff were helpful. Food seems overpriced... even though the quality seems good, the food was lacking flavor. The beef noodle soup had no taste, as well as the other dim sum dishes, only the sweets had flavor. Can't say I'd rush back to this place. Bummed because there was a lot of hype about this place that claims to be dim sum specialists. read more

I was really excited to finally try the dim sum here due to the Michelin reputation, but I was very disappointed. We got the following dishes: 1.) Steamed Pork Spare Rib with Black Bean - Dry, lacked flavor 2.) Steamed Dumplings with Shrimp and Chives - Chives overpowered the dumplings and shrimp didn't have much seasoning 3.) Steamed Shrimp Dumplings - Best part of our meal and the only thing I would get again 4.) Wontons in Hot & Spicy Sauce - Not spicy at all, very sweet 5.) Braised Beef Brisket with Thin Rice Noodles in Soup - Some noodles were hard and stuck together, broth tasted watered down We actually wanted to have the cucumbers and/or the Chinese broccoli but they didn't have either. We thought our lunch at Tim Ho Wan was good, but I don't quite understand what the hype is about. Don't get me wrong, it was a perfectly fine lunch, but it's received so much media attention and accolades, but I like other dim sum restaurants in town more than Tim Ho Wan (think: One Dragon, Golden Dim Sum, etc.) I really liked the steamed shrimp dumplings, the fried rice, and the Chinese broccoli. And I liked their baked BBQ pork dumplings (unique because they're baked instead of steamed and have a crispy crust of sugar on top), but I may prefer traditional steamed dumplings instead. Overall, the food was good, and I liked it. Service was very nice. My only complaint is that our server wasn't very helpful when it came to portions--we asked her if we ordered too much, and she just replied, "well, you can always get more." Totally understand that they can't gauge exactly how much each person can eat, but we ordered WAY to much for our party. read more

We came for lunch on Saturday. They said the wait would be 20-30 minutes but we waited less than 10. The service was fairly quick. The food came staggered which was good since we ordered so much food. Everything was great. The cucumbers were cut too big for my taste but had a good flavor. The bbq buns were sweeter than expected but still yummy and juicy. The restaurant was busy but not too crazy. Great dessert places are next door as well. read more

Impression to this place to me is a nice and clean restaurant, bathroom is very spacey and clean, server is not really that friendly but is acceptable. Table is kind of small for dim-sum dishes since it most likely comes with multi small plates. Foods are good it kind of a bit expensive (9 dishes with pot of tea $74) compared to others but it tastes not bad. The special chef eggplant and shrimp is good but a bit salty, I have to order extra bowl of rice just to eat with this. My favorite will be Chicken Feet, dessert Sesame Ball lava fillings and shrimp rice roll. Deep fried egg roll with shrimp and egg white can be super good too if it doesn't get soaked with the soy sauce while handling to our table. Siu mai and Har how are good as well. read more
