To be fair, no one comes here expecting decent food. You come here hungry after skiing all morning, so anything edible will do. I ordered the pesto chicken sando. It was okay, although the buns were a bit mushy and parts of the chicken were dry. The fries weren't crispy and didn't really taste like anything. Went to the Wall for lunch at 2:30pm after skiing since 8:30am. Had wanted to eat elsewhere and get a bowl but those counters were closed already, so we wandered into the Wall. We were seated almost immediately and had a very friendly hostess and server. As a group we ordered: Nachos with beef: 5/5 yes I'm sure they get the guac and cheese premade somewhere but the portion was generous, the spice level was decent, and nachos were flavorful. Pesto chicken sliders: 5/5 best thing we ordered. Fish and chips: 4/5 run of the mill fish and chips. The breading was a little thick and the fish wasn't particularly tender but it was alright. I usually feel like places don't provide enough tartar sauce but here I had sauce left over Bloody Mary: 5/5 I don't like blood Marys and I enjoyed this one which might indicate that it wasn't good but I really liked it. My husband said it was "more vegetal than usual" and I think I don't like the overwhelming tomato taste of a usual Bloody Mary so his observation makes sense Mulled wine: 4/5 pleasantly warm and interesting in flavor. We had a fantastic over a week-long vacation with the whole family in the Lake Tahoe area. Although we stayed in South Lake Tahoe, we visited all the Epic Pass mountains in the range, including Kirkwood. When we're on vacation, we're not in a hurry, that means we are leisurely enjoying our time with the family. And that includes dining. We're not interested in grab-n-go but in a sit down lunch with quality food and service. To our surprise, most of the eating venues at the Vail resorts seem to be fast food only. We're were pleasantly surprised in our visit to Kirkwood, the Wall Bar & Grill was not just a bar but a good place to sit down, relax, and have some good food in a casual atmosphere with great service. Their Fried Cheese curds were great tasting while replenishing proteins from the ski morning. And although I seldom have red meat, we all tried the excellent bison sliders. It's aight. I don't particularly remember any of the prices, because once I hit the mountains, the water turns to beer and the memories start to fade. BUT! At least in this state, you know you won't really care what you're eating, because you're just happy to be sticking food down your mouthhole again. I got some Chilly Pheesesteak Sammich and it was pretty standard. Nothing to call home about or bring the cavalry, but whatever. I was surprised to see so many negative reviews of this place. We had lunch here after a cold snowy morning of skiing (Wednesday and supposedly not open). We were seated promptly and the interior was warm and comfortable. Service was a little slow, but I thought the food was quite good. The Cajun chicken sliders were hot and very tasty with the side of garlic fries. My dining partner had a chicken Philly which looked pretty generous. Prices were a little high, but no more so than any other slopeside dining establishment. I'd come back next time I'm skiing at Kirkwood. read more

so riddle me this- I bought a bloody mary from the bar right outside of this restarurant while we were waiting to be seated and they said I couldn't bring in my drink. So, I drank the drink and brought in the cup of fixin's (they make a pretty hearty bloody). Salami, pickels almost a snack in itself. Good for a hot meal as you come down from the slopes. All the food was cooked great and piping hot. The menu is a little limited and you get chips instead of fries, but its way better than carrying a plastic tray around and picking from a buffet. Day one - three of us shared some sliders and each got a soup. The clam chowder didn't sit that well with us. Day two - we split two orders of nachos and those really filled us up. Sometimes I wonder if people perceive bad service when it's their own attitude... just saying. I ate there on a whim last Tuesday near closing time. Got immediate attention and smile from pretty girl as we approached. Wife chose our table by the window. Philly sandwich was fat and hot, garlic fries crispy. Fish and chips (which I got with onion rings instead of fries) was piping hot, flakey and crispy. Miike appeared to be the bartender, he also took our order. He checked on us twice, kept our water full. I don't go to a ski resort and go to eat at the only semi-fancy seating and warm ambience dining room and expect to see $6 sandwiches (not in this day and age) so I can't even complain about price. Food: Pork Belly Sliders - can't say this was a favorite given the portion and taste. The pork was a little tough. Chicken Caesar - well this made up for the sliders. I was actually surprised that the chicken was really well seasoned. The salad itself was pretty standard. Service: friendly and attentive staff. Our drinks came immediately, and our food came soon after. The fried chicken slider was incredibly good, one of the best I've ever had. What a wonderful retreat for lunch on the mountain. Great selection of beers on tap and a good variety of food. Their soups are always a pleasure and are hot and fresh. This is always a great combo. Hot soup and cold snow. This past time I opted to try one of their frou-frou drinks they have on their menu. Oh, wow. I could hardly taste the frou for all the alcohol. It is nice to actually get what you pay for. Now for my complaints. The service is always very slow. I'm wondering if their kitchen is just too small to handle the number of orders coming through or if they just don't have an efficient and orderly system. Either way, hurry up and wait. They would make much more money if they could increase the service speed and decrease wait times. Also, get rid of the cheesy wallpaper. Go for a nice plaster texture with a very light faux finish. I was excited to try this place, but it was badly understaffed when I came by (around 1 p.m. on a Wednesday). There was a long wait just to have the hostess seat you, though seats were available. Then when I was seated, nobody came. After 5 minutes of seeing no servers taking orders, and noticing many tables full of people sitting around with menus, I left and got a quick lunch at Monte Wolfe's next door. I thought maybe it was just the lunch rush, so I came back later in the afternoon. Though the restaurant was half empty at that point, there was still a line of people waiting to be seated with no host in sight. Back to Monte Wolfe's, which had a bar with no line. Good spot for a sit down meal while skiing at Kirkwood. Not a lot of options at Kirkwood in general, which is a fair price to pay for some of the best snow in the Tahoe area. I usually like to stop here and grab some hot buffalo chili and a pint of beer before hitting the slopes again. Reason for only 3 stars as opposed to 4? prices are a bit on the high side, and more importantly, it can get very crowded with exorbitant wait times. I find it unfortunate that a restaurant located in a perfect location at the bottom of the Kirkwood ski slopes can offer such a mixed fare of both reasonable and off-the-charts bad food (see photo) in one lunch time. There were six adults and six children in our party and most of the children ordered Bison burgers with cheese, tomato and lettuce. In mitigation for the following story of woe, I would like to say the order was complicated. It was not. In further mitigation, and to be completely fair, the food served to the adults was fine, if a little pricey. The burgers came out without cheese. Not a major complication and they were returned to the kitchen without incident, coming back minutes later with a complement of cheese. Unbeknownst, at first, to the adults around the table, the burgers were in fact raw. Brown on the outside, but with completely raw meat on the inside - clearly something that should have never left the kitchen, let alone be served to a five year old. Some of the children ate theirs without complaint, but not surprisingly, there were half and quarter eaten burgers left behind. What followed, on our complaint, is the most bizarre argument I have ever had in a restaurant. To cut a long story short, the restaurant sent a server who claimed to be the manager (but turned out not to be), argued that our kids had eaten their food and should be charged for it, offered free deserts instead of a discount and after a long and acrimonious (but not without civility) discussion lasting 15 minutes took the burgers off the bill along with another 20%. If this end result had occurred immediately and without fuss or subterfuge I would not be writing this review (although I suspect the Environmental Health department of Alpine County should take a keen interest). The actual manager of the restaurant skulked in the corner during the entire discussion and at no time appeared to appease us. To add further irony to this story, two days prior, one of our party ordered the bison burger only to be served with a burnt cinder, blackened bread included. This was removed from the bill without question. On the off-chance the owners of Off the Wall are reading this, I would suggest an examination how front of house staff are communicating orders, the quality control of food leaving the kitchen and question how the restaurant manager is unwilling to resolve customer issues personally and without escalation, incident or subterfuge, leading to the many negative reviews posted here. read more

I ordered a chicken sandwich that tasted goof but the sandwich was not very large. As our food arrived I ordered a kids quesadilla to go thinking it would be quick. 45 minuets later they finally brought it with the check. But between the wait and the time it takes for your food, do you really want to lose 2 hours of your day on the mountain for a burger? #NOPE So go to the General Store unless you're done for the day. The host slash lady who looks like a Karen type manager was the worst. Rude from the start, oh I'm sorry I have a party of 7 and I was just letting you know that we did and that we were in no rush to get a table but to add us to the list. So we eventually get a table and our server Sydney was awesome and fun. 10 stars for her. The other servers who eventually ran the food to our table seemed as if they dIdn't want to actually run the food. Yeah I get it you don't want to run another tables food since you don't get the tip from it. It's been well over an hour and we are still waiting on our food. No big deal, just cold, it's cool. Worst dinning experience I've had in a while. Walked in around 2 o clock on a Monday during a holiday week for a quite bite to eat before hitting the road home. Place was busy but not completely full. Multiple open tables. Took almost 15mins for us to even be acknowledged. Once we sat down, we got the sense that service wasn't exactly their strong suit so we made it easy on our waitress and ordered everything all at once and asked for our check at that time to help expedite things. Over an hour for our 3 identical burgers to arrive. We watched multiple tables be sat and fed in during that time frame. Don't come here if you're in any sort of a hurry. We used to love coming here for a lunch ski break. Today we ended up waiting almost 2.5 hours for our food. When we sat down outside, the server told us food was a bit delayed -- maybe 20 minutes or so. An hour and a half later we noticed a bunch of empty tables inside and asked to be moved since the wind had picked up. Server said sure thing but unsurprisingly half an hour later we still hadn't been moved inside. Upon asking for the third time we were finally moved. Seems like then maybe the kitchen hadn't been told we had been moved, so of course our food ended up taken outside. Even once the food came, the spanish fries had only maybe 6 fries (much smaller than other orders we had seen go by) and the burger was only mediocre. The chef is over reaching the menu makes no sense for the restaurant's location in Kirkwood. 25% of the customers are children and they don't serve kid friendly items like burgers or chicken fingers. We visited on a Saturday and the two soups were clam chowder and salmon bisque? We had a flatbread pizza appetizer - $16.95 (a bit pricey) and the NY strip steak. The steak was cooked correctly, but was very tough and was flavorless. The menu price for the steak was $38.95. However, we were charged $41.95. One steak, one flatbread pizza, two glasses of wine $99. Try someplace else. You'd think the dining options would be better at a Vail operated resort - but you'd be wrong. read more

Service is really bad! We have eaten at Off the Wall twice. Both times we got really bad service. We ordered the food right away but they took a long time to arrive. The tables around us came after us got their food before us. Today the food took more than 35 minutes to arrive. I asked the manager why our food took so long and we were never given any explaination. My thinking is that the management is totally off so the server took whatever food came out of the kitchen for another table. e.g. the table behind us got Mac & cheese and croque monsieur but they ordered after us. We were up in Kirkwood this past weekend during a storm. I realized there were not many dinner options and since we'd gone to the 7800 grill the night before, The Wall was pretty much the only choice. I read the reviews and was not excited about going. However, our experience was really good! The food was delicious, the salads and entree were amazing. Art was our server and he was friendly and helpful. It was a Friday night but not packed so maybe that helped with the service. The food is overpriced but not surprising for a ski resort. It was all very yummy though. We asked for a dessert 'to go' and they happily obliged. 2 salads, split and entree, 2 coffees, and one dessert the bill was only $75. I would go back again. read more
