We came in for breakfast because it was the only place open in town. The guy at the counter (assuming the owner) was very indifferent and seemed miserable to even be there in the first place. My husband had a few questions about the menu and was given very short and dry answers. When he brought the food out he just slid the food across the table and walked away. The breakfast sandwiches we had were terrible. They were so bad we actually laughed and made jokes about it the rest of the day to keep from being frustrated that we paid that much for such horrible food and service. The bread on our sandwiches weren't even toasted. The cheese wasn't melted. The egg was so over cooked we both had to spit part of it out because we couldn't chew it. The hash browns were cold and undercooked. This place makes McDonalds look like a five star breakfast! Please don't waste your time or money on this horrible establishment! We went on a recommendation. Ordering was awkward. I wanted the avocado turkey sandwich on gluten free bread. The woman at the register said they were out of the GF bread and then made a snarky comment that "it's really just a fashion statement anyway". Then tried to backup and say it's only understandable if you have "celiac or something". I have an autoimmune disease that can be badly affected by gluten. I was uncomfortable having to justify my choice and just got it with regular bread. Then they didn't have any of the sides offered (pasta salad, coleslaw or potato salad) except the garden salad. We waited at least 20 minutes for our two sandwiches to be ready. Lastly, my sandwich didn't even have the sprouts listed as an ingredient in the sandwich. My husband and I recently spent a week in Ouray. I went here to "grab a quick lunch" and take it back to our hotel and it took over 30 minutes to get our food!! Also, once they gave it to me, our bag was missing 1/2 of the order! The people were really nice (which was a major change from the rest of the people in Ouray), and the food was okay. I ordered the jalapeño burger for my husband. It comes with a spicy "devil sauce", and he really enjoyed it. For myself, I ordered the kid's chicken finger plate and it wasn't good at all. I wouldn't go back. The people are nice, but the food is extremely overpriced and waiting 30 minutes for a to-go order is crazy! read more

This was, hands down, one of the worst dining experiences I have ever had. Let me first say that I came here on the Fourth of July for breakfast, which I am sure is one of their busiest times of the year. That still doesn't excuse the service or food we got. The first red flag was when we ordered our food. When we pointed out that under "omelettes" it just said "your choice of filling" but didn't list the fillings, the cashier said, "You get three things in it." When I asked what the fillings actually were, he glared at me, huffed, and said, "I don't know what all she has back there!" even though I'm pretty sure knowing was literally his job. We ordered by looking at their posted burgers and seeing what toppings they had for those. We paid, gave a decent tip, took our donuts, and sat down. The donuts were chewy and doughy. I could see the appeal of them, but as someone who only likes fluffy yeast donuts, they weren't for me. No big deal though. We then waited at least 45 minutes for our food. When it came out, both plates were basically poorly-scrambled eggs with things stuffed inside, barely-cooked hash browns, and no salad (which was part of the plate's description on the menu). I noticed that my omelette did not have any of the cheese I had ordered, but at this point I was already so starving that I started eating anyway. At least, until I saw that the eggs weren't cooked. Completely runny whites. I brought my plate to our waitress and told her there was no cheese and the eggs weren't cooked. She seemed pissed off, but more like she was pissed off at the kitchen than me. Maybe I'm just projecting. Either way, she came back to our table, not with a remade omelette, but with the SAME omelette that had some cheese melted on top, clearly from being put under the heating lamp. Eggs still undercooked and runny. Knowing we wouldn't get our money back and at this point we'd miss the parade, we just left. The entire thing lasted two hours and I had to wait another hour just for the lunch places to open. Completely unacceptable service, completely unacceptable food. Maybe this place is better any other time of the year--that's the only reason I can fathom this place getting anything over two stars on yelp. read more

Our hotel provided free breakfast vouchers. I had the biscuit and sausage gravy. It was amazing. My boyfriend had the pancake and egg combine. Pancake was just ok, I wouldn't get it again. We also indulged in one of their homemade cinnamon rolls and it was gooey and delicious. The gentleman working the counter was friendly and courteous. We stopped in here for a family lunch. The sandwiches were good. The ingredients were fresh and they had a good selection of breads. My club sandwich had high quality turkey and ham. Not terrible, but definitely not worth it. We have been in town for a week and every time we walked by this place it was closed, sometimes as early as 9 a.m. The one time we went when it was open was at 7. We wanted to see about the homemade doughnuts, and they were fine, but it looks like the employees only make one or two batches so they can close as soon as they run out. It didn't make much sense and no one seemed to understand the sporadic hours as we saw many people walking by the deli during the day confused about when/if it was ever open during its listed hours. But this is the place they give you a coupon to eat breakfast at, and while it's not worth staying at the B&B to eat here, I'd recommend coming here after spending the night in better accommodations. Well, I did read the newest reviews before going to Timberline Deli. With COVID there are not a lot of breakfast options in the small town of Ouray. So, since there didn't seem to be a problem stated in the reviews I read with food so much as the service, we went. As with the other reviews, who I assumed to be the owner, was rude. Nothing specific towards me just general annoyance of dealing with people or maybe just tourist. Or maybe he hates his job or life, who knows. I ordered a veggie omelet, french toast, coffee and two donuts. The rudeness came when I ordered the omelet. I asked for the veggie omelet, which on the menu from our hotel listed the veggies in it. There were five. He asked which veggies I wanted and I stated all of them, but that wasn't a good enough answer. He wanted me to name off every veggie I wanted although there were no list of the veggies they even offered. He was just very unhelpful about the whole thing in a rude manner. I almost left at that point but like I said there are very few options and they all seem to also run out early/or close. The customers after me had ordered coffee with their food order and he yelled at the lady to stop when she was trying to get the milk to come out of the carafe. The people(party of 4)who ordered after us(party of 2)got there food first. No big deal as our food still came out pretty timely and everything was correct and tasted pretty good. The server was very nice, friendly and helpful. Only complain was the veggie omelet, the omelet was a bit overdone and the veggies were very large and chunky. So, if you can ignore the owner/counter persons bad attitude and rudeness then the food and service beyond him isn't bad. read more

Stumbled in here while stopping in Ouray for a break between Telluride and Durango. We were looking for something filling yet not too heavy, and the "sandwich factory" sign practically called our names. We ordered and paid at the quaint indoor counter where I briefly debated getting ice cream for lunch, but opted for the Swiss cheese and veggie sandwich instead. My guy ordered the grilled chicken. Both of us chose the sunflower and honey bread as that was the most unique and tastiest sounding option. It was a glorious weather day, so we decided to sit outside on the front porch to breathe the fresh mountain air and take in the scenery, which was spectacular. Thankfully there was an umbrella to shade us from the unusually hot late September sun. After a short wait, our sandwiches were delivered and were quite tasty, though mine did not have any sprouts as mentioned on the menu. They came with pickles and choice of side; I got the pasta salad while he went for the potato. We also got ice teas which, while nothing fancy, beat the typical soda fountain options. We chatted and ate and could have sat there all day, though eventually it was time to move on. Prices were fair for what was received, and considering there aren't a ton of dining options around, they could easily charge a bit more. I would not drive out of my way to patronize the deli, but would return if found myself in Ouray and just needed a quick bite. read more

I love Ouray and all of the amazing restaurants and shops. This is not one of them. Read the other 1 and 2 star reviews- the owners are actually scary. Yesterday I was parallel parking in front of this deli and I apparently touched the car behind me. The owner ran out and started screaming at me (in front of his customers who had kids with them) threatening to call the police and "clock me." I looked at his car (which he pointed out was a Cadillac) and saw not scratches. As I was inspecting for damages he came back out to scream at me again. Kind of scary. So I looked at other low reviews and this guy has actually hit customers and chased them out of his store for asking about allergens in food etc. He obviously needs help, and I hope he gets it. This guy is seriously scary. I can't believe his deli is still open, and it's really sad that my favorite town in Colorado is being colored by this him and his wife, who from the reviews sounds the same. read more

I was walking down Main St in Ouray looking for a cup of coffee about 6:15am and was happy to find that Timberline Deli was open (the only place I found open). The owner was very friendly and happy to talk to me about what's going on in Ouray. As it turned out, we were staying at the Matterhorn Inn and our reservation included breakfast at Timberline. So I got my wife and came back to get our breakfast. I ordered the breakfast sandwich and she ordered the French toast. The sandwich was huge - two eggs with layers of ham and cheese on an English muffin. I was disappointed that they didn't have sausage, as I originally ordered, but it was a really good and filing sandwich. My wife liked the French toast. It was made from Texas size toast and had a good touch of cinnamon but was not too sweet. Overall, we were very happy with our breakfast and will return to Timberline Deli when we're back in Ouray. read more

A local lady recommended this place when I said I was looking for a super fresh salad. When you walk in you might think that they serve stock food items but everything is homemade here - except the salad dressing. Freshly chopped turkey and delicious freshly cooked bacon with fresh chopped greens, feta and delicious tomatoes. The server was so dang sweet and I started looking at all the incredible baked goods when I left but I thought I would just leave a good thing alone. I should not have chosen the pulled pork sandwich. Neither my husband nor I enjoyed it at all and I cannot recommend it. Pulled pork means fork-shredded strands of pork to me, and these sandwiches had pieces of meat (and accompanying connective tissue) as big as chicken thighs. The BBQ-like sauce did not add much taste and the meat/sauce needed salt. I also ordered the garden salad, which was a very nice salad and very fresh with a large variety of fresh lettuces and other veggies included. At 1:20 pm, when I ordered this food, they were already out of the house salad dressing (a basil pesto vinaigrette which I was dying to try). Since the salad was fine, I'd have given 3 stars if I could have had the dressing I wanted. read more

I was witness to his easily flared temper. His wife is very sweet and tried to calm him down by sending him to the kitchen. I honestly don't know how his place is still open. We stayed at the Matterhorn Inn, and as part of our room price, we had free breakfast at Timberline deli. There were four options, and both days I went with option 1. It was two eggs, bacon or sausage, and pancake or toast. I had eggs over medium, bacon, and pancake. My eggs were cooked perfectly. The bacon was thick and crisp, the way I like it. The pancake was not browned on top, but still was fluffy and cooked all the way through. If you're staying at the Matterhorn Inn, I recommend this breakfast. read more

Extremely friendly owners, very good sandwiches, and delicious dessert. My wife had the club, and a chocolate cake, I had a donut, and a turkey bacon avocado. Everything was scrumptious, fresh bread and vegetables, home made cake, and donuts, this place is the best!
