A meal or drink at Timmer's is a highlight of many of our adventures at Big Cedar. Although I disagree, I am not surprised by the occasional bad review for the service at Timmer's, they have some personalities on their staff! However, we have regularly experienced service that is above and beyond including outdoor seating for a party of 15 people. Once after a day on the lake the hostess even threw a wet jacket in the dryer for us. The ambiance is worth a moderate wait, in the meantime take advantage of the rolling lawn, the bocce ball courts, the bar, or even the wading area down at the lake if you're coming with kids. The bar offers a variety of beers on tap and a nice wine list. The menu is upscale compared to anything else you'll find on the lake and the prices reflect that, come when you're feeling like a nice meal and splurging a bit. My recommendations include the Chicken Wellington and the hand breaded fish fry, although the entree menu changes. I definitely need to try out the brunch! read more

We arrived early on a Friday evening with a party of four. Sat at the bar for a drink and was seated at a nice table. Our waitstaff was attentive. The food was good but not spectacular for the price point. The dining area was busy but, not crazy. We ordered drinks, wine, main entrees and dessert. The minute dessert was finished, we were told we needed to leave as there was another party to be seated? There were open tables available. A wonderful setting, delightful decor - but mediocre food and disappointing service. Four diners, three steaks - two filets at $38 each and a "special" $75 ribeye, all ordered medium rare, came to the table medium well. And the meat tasted funny - no illness, mind you, but for these prices, wouldn't you expect perfection, as with Carnevor, Johnny M's, or Eddie Martini's? My walleye was about as good as a frozen bread-encrusted version from a Costco freezer. Service was HORRIBLE - we understand that restaurants are scraping for servers, but our high schooler should have been trained to fill water glasses without asking, not to place the dinner order such that it was delivered before we even finished our apps (how DID they overcook the steaks that fast? Can the place afford a thermometer for the "chef?"), and to take away finished plates without our asking. Basic training for them, Ms. Manager? If you go, stick with the drinks (the Sezarac is particularly good, as are the ice cream desert drinks), appetizers (calamari steak = very good; mussels, a children's portion, if that) and sandwiches. The view is worth it, but the entrees and "specials" are not. And goodness, stay away from the so-called steaks. read more

I have been to Timmers many times when it was under the previous owners and had excellent dinners and an enjoyable experience. On 9/12/21, I drove for 1 hour and 40 minutes EACH WAY to go to Timmers because their website indicated that their bar opens at 2pm on Sundays and the restaurant opens at 4pm. I intended to watch the Packers Season opener in the bar. Guess what? They are closed on Sundays. If the current owners are incapable of listing their accurate hours of operation on their own WEBSITE, God only knows how they run the rest of the restaurant. Our 26th wedding anniversary there was some confetti on the table however our waitress didn't even bring it up I noticed as people were celebrating birthdays and getting desserts with candles we got absolutely nothing also I ordered my steak medium rare it came well it was a tiny fillet, we waited 30 minutes for the new fillet by then my husband was done with dinner and I took it to go. I have never been more offended going to a restaurant. My boyfriend and I came in for a Friday night fish fry. The hostess was nice but sat us at the table with no menus. Eventually the waitress came over. With out saying a welcome or hello she simply asked, "Are you read to order." We had no drinks or menus at this point. We eventually did order, were never checked on, asked if we wanted dessert and then received the bill. We waited over 15 minutes before asking another waitress to take our bill. It was extremely obvious we were being ignored the whole time. Obviously didn't fit the clientele. After seeing we paid our waitress walked by and said thanks. The food was ok, fish was good, fries were cold and bread was hard/dry. We will not be returning or recommending this place to anyone. read more

I've been coming to Timmers for about 8 years, with a total of about 400 visits (yes I know). First and foremost, Timmers has the best bar staff in the business. Jeff, Brooke, and Kevin you know who you are. They are pros in every aspect, from knowledge of obscure drinks to friendly banter to some of the best dad jokes I've ever heard. What can I say about the patio in the summer and the unprecedented happiness ratio. Bring the kids and play some bag toss, or just hang out and listen to the great music on Sundays. Just ask Ashley the manager for a prime seat. She's the best! Why have I been here so many times? Is the the roaring fireplaces in the winter? The fish fry? The property? The lake access? After hearing about Timmers for years I finally had the opportunity to try it out for myself. The building is absolutely beautiful! The hostess and bartenders were very friendly and even though it was a busy Friday night we were able to get seated fairly quickly. Everything about our meal was top notch. I highly recommend the calamari parmesan-- not the stringy calamri I'm used to seeing. Very fresh! The fish fry was perfectly crisp and hot and the potato pancakes were excellent. And the coleslaw was superb -- you can tell the chef pays great attention to detail. Excellent job kitchen crew! Our server was very pleasant and attentive as well. Timmers is a great restaurant. My husband and I have been there several times and have dined both inside and outside. This visit we docked our boat and enjoyed lunch on the patio. Every time we've dined outside the service was less than stellar and this visit was no exception. We arrived right when they opened and a very upbeat, friendly girl greeted and sat us. Our waitress on the other hand, was not very friendly or attentive. It's not like they were busy, we were the only table seated outside. The renovated restaurant has a very nice wooden interior which apparently kept much of the style of the original place torn down a couple year's ago. We ate in the attractive bar area on a Friday after golf, but it was too early for the fish fry. Fortunately, the luncheon menu had two fish entrees, beer-battered cod and baked cod. The waiter who was great offered fresh fruit skewers (he called it "chopped fruit" -- not good) in place of the fries. We would do this again. However, the dinner menu seems pricey to us, given the substantially lower prices at nearby upscale restaurants like the Little Red Inn and Fox and Hounds. We will probably not try dinner here. read more

Ended up with a group of 4 visiting Timmer's based on a family member's request. We were not disappointed. We started out with the Muscles. Fresh and well cooked. If you have ever had a bad muscle, you'd know it. These were far from bad. Delicate texture and good sauce. Good liquor selection. They were a little short on the Sazerac though; probably just an error in the mix. But, they have Freakshow wine. If you are in the mood for a deep red, well-balanced wine, do not pass a glass of this up. Might even be better just ordering the bottle and taking an Uber home or letting someone else drive... so worth it! Our main courses fed the gamut of tastes; Ribs, Duck (on special), Prime Rib and Filet Mignon. I'm starting here and I had the ribs. I am being biased because everyone at the table said I had the best dish out of everyone's order!! Yay for me and they were right!! For those of you from Chicago and can appreciate a good rib with a sauce that tingles in the side of your cheek, get these ribs! Wow... was I impressed with the taste. Fall off the bone, get your fingers sloppy, ask for extra wipes goodness!!! The duck was well cooked and had a good taste to it. We believe they should have limited the orange glaze, just a bit too much. The prime rib was a good cut of meat. The person who ordered this had no complaints. Her slice was cut to order and tasted really good. My gf had the filet. She is a rare - keep it moving - meat kinda girl. Timmer's nailed it. A firm cut of filet perfectly cooked and cut like a hot knife in water. Yes, I said water... that was how tender that meat was. All in all, put Timmer's on your reservation list. It is surrounded by vacation and weekend rentals. My advice is to reserve a table if it's more than two. Because of their location and beautiful outdoor seating area, if you visit here during the spring and fall months, it's going to be busy during the popular hours. We went there for Mother's Day brunch and to say it was a disappointment would be an understatement! It began with the most impersonal hostess who quite honestly seemed like she would have rather been anywhere but there. There selection was minimal and the food was undercooked. A friend of ours and her family were there a couple hours after us and she said they had to come around and take all of the chicken back because it was raw. All of this for almost $30 each! Wow! Because of the virus we ordered their Easter take out dinner, 2 lb ham, 2 lb prime rib, strawberry salad, potato bake, veggie and carrot cake. I ordered it for 11:00, drove up, they put it in my car and home I went. Perfect! The food was outstanding. Very tasty, easy to reheat instructions and the clean up was a snap. My wife and I often go here, the atmosphere is northern WI supper club. The fish fry is very good and you can chose the size portion that suits your appetite. We stopped the other night for a casual dinner my wife had the crab cake appetizer as her entrée and I had the prime rib sandwich, it was wonderful. Our server was great. I would give it 5 stars but I' m one of those that there is always room for improvement, but not much here. 12-7-19 A recent visit with a large group (15) was marred only by our waitress who was unwilling to accommodate us in helping with dividing the bill of $800.00. Reminded me what I think an old time Wisconsin supper club should feel like. Both fireplaces were blazing, folks were dressed nice and the majority were ordering old fashions. Dean Martin and Frank were playing in the background. Staff were friendly and polite. Food was fantastic. More then enough for everyone. Father in law ordered the Pork Shank I believe. He raved about it and he has been in the restaurant business for over 50 years and sometimes is hard to please. But he thoroughly enjoyed the meal. Can't wait to come back in the summer. read more

I have to counter some of the negative fish fry comments. First, the bartenders that were there on that night were youngish, and super attentive. I appreciate that when most of the clientele is olderish. Ha. My dad has a habit of talking random strangers ears off, and for the first time, every one of them seemed receptive to it. My point is, despite the grand appearance, this place still felt approachable. I'm just a working class guy in my 30s. If I wanted some fried cod I'd go to any bar anywhere around Wash/Oz Co. We didn't want that. I had the scallops, my dad tried snails for the first time ever, and we all had a great time. Sadly I forgot the other two dishes, but they were both fish and were enjoyed. We got there around 5 and stuck around until about 6:30 when there was a little wait we could see forming. Fortunately there is wonderful bar. Though, know that it's going to cost you 1-2$ more for the same drink than it does at a dive. Because you're not at one! Food is good, service was great the three times I've been there, and the prices are just a little higher than I'd like. But there is a wait - to pay more. There is a reason for that. If you want an 8$ frozen deep fried slab of mystery fish, don't go here. Simple. I'll take a "fish brick" once in a while, but if we're looking for something more, this place is top 5 for sure. So much so, we made Easter brunch reservations before we left. Looking forward to it. Update: my family continues to use Timmers as our go-to for holidays. Thanksgiving and Easter are great, as well just the Sunday brunch. Literally have never been let down here. That's pretty incredible - every time, perfect service and food. Again, the price is just a scootch higher than I'd personally like to pay, lol, but we continue to "drive all the way out there" and pay it. I was really hoping to find a good fish fry in town this visit. Man o man o man was I disappointed. The whole meal was a bust and the service was subpar at best. We were ignored. Simple things like refilling our drinks, must have been above them that night. I understand that they are very busy, but they are also very well staffed. To be honest, I am not sure why this place fills up on a Friday night as both their service and quality of cuisine really left me with a strong desire never to return. I choose the Perch as it is my favorite fish fry friend. The Perch overcooked and tasteless. My wife went with the cod, the cod salt laden and actually not edible. My dad went with the walleye grenobloise which was done all wrong and tasted off and awful. I was really let down coming here and I will not be back and would not recommend this place. read more

I'm from/grew up in the area, but live in Milwaukee. I was around for the evening, visiting my dad. It was dinner time, so he was listing off some places that we could go to eat. I had such a hard time deciding because everywhere that he listed elicited a blah feeling, nothing that made my mouth water or my stomach rumble. So, I decided on this place because I don't remember ever having been there. I may have been when I was a child, but I'm not sure. I heard that it had been renovated, however I can't say anything about it because I don't recall how it was before. However, it looks like a new building (kinda built to look older) surrounded by a bunch of really old buildings. My dad was giving me some background on the place and told me the the big concrete block (that is now a replica) that says Timmer on it when you pull up in the parking lot was for the horse drawn carriages to pull up next to it so that people could step down out of their carriages. I thought that was pretty interesting. When I walked up, I saw a board through the window and the words "ribs." That got my mouth watering. I wanted ribs, but only if they were pork ribs. So, we followed the hostess to our table and sat down right next to the window and real wood fireplace. As I looked over the menu, I didn't see ribs. There was a little card apart from the menu that was sitting on the table with specials on it. Many of those things were quite appealing to me. But, I noticed at the top of the card that the specials went from Monday to Thursday. And when I asked about the ribs, same thing. BOOOOOO!!!! So, I ordered the spinach artichoke dip for an app. It was delicious. Lots of artichokes, not so much spinach, I guess there could have been more, but it had a pretty rich/cheesy flavor. It was quite yummy. The waitress brought more bread without me having to ask because she said that there never seems to be enough bread. That was nice. For the meal, I ordered the beer battered perch with potato pancakes. There was a choice of beer battered or hand breaded, I didn't know which one to choose, so I asked the waitress and she said beer battered. I asked her if the potato pancakes were good and she said they were really good. When I got my plate the first thing that I noticed were two of the most beautiful potato pancakes I've ever seen. I was hoping that they tasted as good as they looked. I tired one and it was a small piece of heaven in my mouth. Crispy on the outside and soft on the inside and the flavor was great too. I would have been happy eating just potato pancakes. I wasn't in the mood for fish, so I can't really say much about it. However, I suppose that for anybody who was in the mood for it, it would have been very good. Being the type of person that I am, no dinner is complete without dessert. As the waitress had been spot on with her recommendations, I asked her what I should get for dessert. She said that I should get the carrot cake. I never was a big fan of carrot cake, but I do love the cream cheese icing that usually accompanies it. So, I got the carrot cake. Surprisingly, I liked it, even the cake part. I've never had a waitress who was so willing to make recommendations and be so right about them. My dad got the poor man's lobster. His ate everything on his plate, so I'm guessing that it was good. The bill was about $51. Besides that food that I listed above, that includes a diet coke and an old fashioned. So, not too shabby. I'd go back. read more

We recently hit up Timmers for a birthday dinner and it was delicious all around. We enjoyed a couple of pre-dinner cocktails (as we do), then were seated in a very warm and cozy dining room. The menu had a lot to offer and I'll admit I hemmed and hawed between a couple of dishes. Ultimately I decided on the half of de-boned duck with a cherry bourbon glaze on Himalayan red rice. The duck was crispy and big, I only finished a quarter of it (and felt quite virtuous for not devouring the whole thing). The only thing I wasn't crazy about was the cherry bourbon glaze. It was just too sweet for me, I would have prefered something tarter and more bourbon-y. I couldn't taste the bourbon at all really, and I'm a girl who loves her bourbon. Usually I'm not a fan of rice as a side because I tend to think it's overcooked and bland but the Himalayan red rice surprised me with it's nuttiness and flavor. My boyfriend ordered their Scallop Lobster Mac and Cheese, and I did manage to sneak a bite of it and it was decidedly wonderful. Had dinner with my wife and father in law on a Friday night. Fish fry was one of the best I have ever had anywhere. Flavorful, not greasy at all...just excellent. Everything is home made right down to the tarter sauce. Wife had filet mignon and raved...and she knows her steak. Wine list was surprisingly good, too. We shared a slice of their triple chocolate cake and along with their very good coffee it was a wonderful finish. We will be back, and I think we have a new favorite in the rotation. read more
