After planning a celebratory dinner at Timmer's we were deeply disappointed. We ordered food at 5:40 PM and our entrée had not arr4ived by 7PM! The waitress repeatedly assured us that our order was next but diners came in after us and got their food while ours was still MIA. Eventually our food arrived about 1 1/2 hours after ordering! The waitress offered 1 schaum torte for the delay. By then all we wanted to do was go home. First, let me say that I've never heard of this place until today but I am so glad we found it. My boyfriend and I just had one of the best dinners we've had as a couple and we couldn't be happier with everything. The food was excellent, we started with the spinach and artichoke dip appetizer which was so rich and creamy. It even had a bit of spice to it which was very nice. Next out was potato soup which was also very good with nice chunks of potato and well seasoned. We both ordered steaks and when I bit into mine, it literally melted in my mouth. It was a perfect medium rare which is just how I like it. I highly recommend this place. So good! We will be coming back again. Waitress said it was her first night, so we were understanding. Food was excellent (swordfish and walleye), then we noticed, after finishing our food that other tables were offered soup or salad with their we entree. Also we were never received any bread. Upon pointing this out to the busboy (busgirl?), another waitress came over and apologized and said our waitress was new. This was my first time at timmers. We live about 30 mi away but I met one of the cooks and was encouraged to try it. We went on Friday I like fish frys. I had the perch fry, my wife steak sandwich and my daughter chicken cordon bleu panini. We went early to avoid the crowds as I like a drink or two before, my wife does not. We where seated immediately, I noticed there were few tables in this dining area, but they have an outdoor seating area is well. Now the waiting started. Water was on the table and plenty of waitresses seemed to be walking around, however, approached our table. Two tables where seated after us and both where greeted before us. Finally our waitress found time to greet us. I ordered a glass of wine and an appetizer, soft drinks for the others, soft drinks brought quickly a few minutes for the wine. App came in a reasonable time and was great, fried smoked mozzarella was great! We also placed our dinner order. Our server left and didn't come back for quite a few minutes so I went to the bar for another wine. Bartender greeted me and provided requested beverage quickly. Enough about the service, it sucked and wrecked what was otherwise a great experience. Bar staff was great as I continued to get my own drinks, our waitress never questioned this. Now about the food. Wife had steak sandwich, tender and tasty with fantastic seasoned fries. Daughter chicken panini very good. I had perch fry, wasn't bad however price was a little high for the area $14 quantity was low, 3 small pieces, and potato pancakes sucked. Go with the cod! Also, after we placed our order, I overheard a different waitress explain a walleye special. I would have had this if I knew and it looked good when they brought it out. So to sum up, food is great except the potato pancakes and I could have used more perch for what I paid for it. Have the fries! Atmosphere is cozy and friendly. Give Timmer's a try, but stop in the bar before sitting and bring a drink to the table with you. read more

This review is for Sunday Brunch. Limited selection of items, but what they had was good. Nothing out of the usual, just omelets, bacon, potatoes and some noodles and beef tips. No chicken or other meats. Great atmosphere though. Because of such a limited offering I would not make the drive out for the Brunch again. read more

We enjoyed Timmer's very much. It was very decorative outside and very cozy and country setting inside. The bar area has a real fire place burning. The service we had Saturday night was excellent. Both the bartender and our waitress were very good. I thought the food was average though. I had the Prime rib special and it wasn't the greatest I have had. Was a little chewy and not much flavor. Had a rough experience last night at Timmer's. Waited an hour and 20 minutes after being told wait would be 45 minutes because they stupidly don't take reservations on Friday night. Then froze under a blasting a/c vent in the ceiling with a waitress that could have cared less when we asked her to turn down the fan. We wore jackets to eat! Several in our party ordered potato pancakes and the waitress happily informed us they had no syrup after we asked. No "I'm sorry" just a laughing nope, no syrup. The mandatory 18% tip for our party made sure the waitress didnt have to do a good job. The food was ok, but not outstandingly better than other places for the same price. Get your fish fry somewhere else. read more

My family has a cottage on Big Cedar and boating down to Timmer's for a Friday night fish fry is an essential part of my summer. The food and service are both great but what I really love about Timmer's is the beautiful setting complete with an outdoor patio and picturesque cabins. Best food around! We were there last night late we arrived at 9:15 and we were the last table served! We called to see if they would still serve a party of 8 and their response was sure, we will have your table set up by the time you get here!They were fabulous never rushed us and Amanda our waitress's was so prompt! Normally I am very pleased, but our experience on a Saturday night was nothing special. Our server was overworked and didn't come around often enough. Our prime rib was sub-par, especially for $28. Too small, too much fat, some unexpected gristle, and too much waste. They gave us one third or one fourth of a cob of corn each- I find that really odd. Our dessert was a bread-pudding, but the sauce was really lacking. Love the ambiance and the wine selection, and normally I really enjoy my meals. Hope this was a rare glitch. read more

We have heard of Timmer's on Big Cedar Lake for YEARS. We finally drove to the site last night, Saturday evening. Sunny gorgeous drive from Oostburg, on Lake Michigan, to see our dear old friend Fran LeGrand, general manager of the Resort's dining room/s. A treat to see her, and the resort's setting and property are gorgeous. We had an 8 PM dinner reservation. We sat at the bar facing the wall of alcohol and the large big-screen TV showing local sports/Brewers baseball. To me, on such a gorgeous spring night, I felt we needed a view of the lake and the bright green lawn. We had a sweet quiet corner table within the bar for dinner. Jessica was our server and she had a trainee, sweet girl. We ordered the soft-shelled crabs and the short ribs; they were out of both dishes. We were VERY disappointed. Jessica had gone to talk to the chef about gluten-free crabs, and came back with the idea of the walleye being good GF. My husband settled for the tenderloin sliders on brioche and was pleased with his choice. The fish had freezer burn on the end, and that always bothers me. The preparation was too plain with paprika for color. The fish was enhanced with an order of tartar sauce. I did order asparagus, and that was tasty. The salad at the start of the meal was simple and fresh with a side of balsamic dressing. I am not much of a rice girl and should have ordered mashed potatoes. The dinner was average for me; and we should have been offered a dessert or dinner drink on the house, in my opinion as a good-will gesture, for being out of the 2 main spring specials. Had a wonderful dinner at Timmer's. I had a perfectly cooked filet. My companions each had a different species and all said they were delicious. The Schaum Torte was killer and big enough for 4. The restaurant sits in the middle of a resort on Big Cedar Lake and it is beautiful. The main building was rebuilt on the same footprint and hasn't lost the charming appeal. Ladies, the photograph in the Ladies Room is a crack up. Friday nights are crazy here but much calmer other days. read more

Roaming around in Lake Country on a late Sunday afternoon after some time on Big Cedar Lake we were starving and tired. Timmer's was the recommended place closest to us, so we gave it a try. We were pleased by it's northern Wisconsin resort layout, and it's large patio looked full as we walked thru into the hostess station. No problem, we were about ready to eat off the floor if we had to, so as the main dining room looked 80% full, when we were told we could sit in the bar at a table (because we didn't have reservations) that was just fine. We were seated at a corner table, surrounded by windows---nice. As we read thru our menus time started to tick by, and it became apparent that we WEREN'T going to be waited on. I walked up to inquire with the bartender if we were to order the food thru him, or if we could expect a waitress. To say the bartender berated me would be a slight exaggeration, but lets just say he wasn't offering any service to this customer. I was somewhat taken aback, and he had apparently been speaking at enough volume that my wife was looking at me aghast from our table. We promptly set our menus down, and walked out. I DID inform the 16 yr. old hostess (appeared to be the average age of MOST of the wait staff) about the unpleasantness, and that we wouldn't be dining with them, tonight or ever again. She had kind of a blank stare mouth open kind of look, and was saying something about the manager as the door was closing behind me. read more

We went there on Monday night for dinner. From everything that everyone had said about Timmers we were expecting a great time. Our server was not pleasurable at all. She brought the board of specials out and didn't explain not one of them to us. I believe that for a guest experience that it is important to know what all entails in a special like what you get with it and what not. After ten minutes of sitting there she asked the men at the table what they would like to drink then started walking off without asking the ladies or my son what we wanted. If it weren't for one of the gentleman at the table to get her attention the ladies wouldn't have gotten a drink. Then she brought the men's drinks first one by one and finally brought the ladies and my sons drink.. I thought that was a bit rude. We put in our appetizer order we got crab cakes and pot stickers. The crab cakes were so tiny for an appetizer it was hard to share with a table of 5 people but we had no knowledge of that because our server didn't tell us that. The pot stickers were actually really good. We put our order in for dinner after we had finished our appetizers which I believe a dinner order should be taken before appetizers are even brought out. I ordered the trout almondine which was a special. It was good a little overwhelmed with almonds but good. Then my son ordered Mac and cheese. His was the biggest portion out of everyone's and he is 2 years old.. And it was homemade. The men ordered the appetizer specials of New Zealand lamb with goat cheese which the first order was burnt and had to be sent back but when they came back they were good. They also ordered the yellow tuna special which was made well. Beef sliders were ordered as well but both commented saying not worth the price. All of these appetizers were served on a under priced iceberg lettuce salad. Which is weird to me. Then another of our guests ordered a salad because she is vegan so for $9 she got a small salad with canned oranges and like three strawberries and blueberries. For $9!!! That is sad. She was still hungry after that. The hostess had noticed that she wasn't too satisfied with it and offered all of us free desserts. Out of everyone the hostess was the most personable and made our experience better. Our server didn't even once check to see how our meals were or how we were doing. Then at the end she didn't even collect our check or even say thank you! We still left her a tip but I didn't think it was well deserved. After all the hype about this place I was expecting a way better meal and experience for myself and my guests and didn't get that at all that it was almost embarrassing that I took them there. I called all the way from California for a reservation, just to make positive that my sister, brother, and my son and myself would be assured a nice table for a mid-summer Sunday brunch when we visited Wisconsin in mid July. Somehow, a rather large party from Illinois managed to arrive at the very same time, and with the same last name of Mayer! Needless to say, my reservation had been swallowed up by the other. No one in the staff flinched, and the place was packed to the rafters. Before you could say another word, we were ushered to a fine table in the main room, where we were waited on promptly and courteously. The young and attractive wait staff were energetic and more than eager to please. One very attractive blonde girl, who looked as if she could be swept off to New York and a very lucrative modeling career at any moment, took time to talk with our party and make us feel right at home. Oh yes, and the food... Well, it was delectable! We could not have had a more enjoyable Sunday midday feast. It became one of the highlights of my ten day visit to Wisconsin and my long overdue reunion with my family. How I wish we had a place like this to go to in Southern California. But alas, Timmers couldn't, be reproduced, even if Walt Disney himself were behind the project! My thanks go out to all the staff for our wonderful day there! read more

Had dinner for three on Wednesday evening. Waitress couldn't care less about details. I order soup which came the same time my entree came. i express disbelief about the late arriival of soup, she stated that she could box it and I could take it home. Good Grief. Never offered dessert, had to ask, and coffee was luke warm, never ask if I wanted another cup. The crab legs were soft and mushy Overall, will never never return. Great experience. Bartenders were friendly and attentive. We had about a 30 min wait which is not bad on a Friday. Atmosphere is good with live entertainment and a fire in the bar area. Ordered escargot appetizer which was good. Entrees were scallops with risotto and parmesan crusted grouper. So good! Waitress recommended the grouper and she was so right. Dessert was creme brulee also recommended by the waitress. Also delicious. All around a great meal! We will definitely be back for dinner. read more

I am flabbergasted. I called to make a reservation this past Friday night and the person that answered the phone around 7pm on 9/27 was one of the rudest people I've ever spoken to. I understand they have a policy that doesn't take reservations, but she spoke to me like I was a 2 year old. I have worked in Customer Service management for over 10 years and couldn't believe that was how this restaurant chose to represent themselves to a calling, interested customer. At one point when I asked her if wait times tend to grow or shrink after 8, she told me "How would I know that, do you want me to pull out my crystal ball?!" Unfortunately I was given a gift certificate that will go unused. I don't want to spend time in a place that allowed their staff to speak to customers that way. Very disappointing. read more

OMG this was a good fish fry! Very pleasant setting with great waitstaff. Arrived before 6 on a Friday and enjoyed the cod fish fry. Both the beer batter and corn flake crust were very tasty. They even made a great gluten free version for a member of our party that called ahead. At the end of the meal our waitress accidentally dumped a plate of corn dogs we were hoping to box up for one of the kids. She copped to it immediately and hooked us up with a fresh order to go! I don't believe I have ever had a worse meal (short ribs on special). I doubt there was even one bite of meat in the whole dinner, just tons of gravy and FAT, which I had to politely spit out.. The service was slow, and the two tables they put together were of different heights. My husband had to use two menus to even them out so his plate would sit reasonably straight. This restaurant has potential. Since the turnover in ownership and the remodeling it has gone from bad to above average. We have dined there 4 times since the remodeling. Overall our experience was good. Good food and friendly service. The dining room acoustics make it difficult to have a conversation. They need something to absorb some of the noise. The service was a slow and inexperienced. We hope this will improve with time. We ate there on both a Friday when it is more casual and a Saturday. The food was good both nights. We were at Timmer's for Sunday Brunch on 2/23/14, terrible service. We sat for 10 minutes before we had ever been acknowledged. Our server was a beautiful older woman, I believe her name was Heather. She took our drink order and delivered them. That was the end of our service from this woman. The food was marginally warm, no where near the temps they should have been, even for a buffet. We wanted more drinks and coffee, but our server never returned. She did however feel entitled to charge an !8% gratuity for her laziness. And no, it was not busy, steady, not busy. They ran out of food, and a complaint to management did nothing but anger them. No offer to make ammends and instead told us they cancelled our dinner order. I've only tried it once, but the place is totally disorganized, bar and wait and host staff is incredibly inexperienced, and unprofessional.
